| The Gurmukh is totally truthful, content and pure. |

| ਅੰਦਰਹੁ ਕਪਟੁ ਵਿਕਾਰੁ ਗਇਆ ਮਨੁ ਸਹਜੇ ਜਿਤਾ ॥ |
| andharahu kapatt vikaar gaeiaa man sehajae jithaa || |
| Deception and wickedness have departed from within him, and he easily conquers his mind. |

| ਤਹ ਜੋਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸੁ ਅਨੰਦ ਰਸੁ ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ਗਵਿਤਾ ॥ |
| theh joth pragaas anandh ras agiaan gavithaa || |
| There, the Divine Light and the essence of bliss are manifest, and ignorance is eliminated. |

| ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਰਵੈ ਗੁਣ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਕਿਤਾ ॥ |

| Night and day, he sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord, and manifests the excellence of the Lord. |

| sabhanaa dhaathaa eaek hai eiko har mithaa ||9|| |
| The One Lord is the Giver of all; the Lord alone is our friend. ||9|| |

| breham bindhae so braahaman keheeai j anadhin har liv laaeae || |
| One who understands God, who lovingly centers his mind on the Lord night and day, is called a Brahmin. |

| ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪੁਛੈ ਸਚੁ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਰੋਗੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਜਾਏ ॥ |

| Consulting the True Guru, he practices Truth and self-restraint, and he is rid of the disease of ego. |

| ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਗੁਣ ਸੰਗ੍ਰਹੈ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥ |
| har gun gaavai gun sangrehai jothee joth milaaeae || |
| He sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord, and gathers in His Praises; his light is blended with the Light. |

| ਇਸੁ ਜੁਗ ਮਹਿ ਕੋ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਜਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਮੇਟਿ ਸਮਾਏ ॥ |
| eis jug mehi ko viralaa breham giaanee j houmai maett samaaeae || |
| In this world, one who knows God is very rare; eradicating ego, he is absorbed in God. |

| anthar kapatt manamukh agiaanee rasanaa jhooth bolaae || |
| Within the ignorant self-willed manmukh is deception; with his tongue, he speaks lies. |

| ਕਪਟਿ ਕੀਤੈ ਹਰਿ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ਨਿਤ ਵੇਖੈ ਸੁਣੈ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥ |
| kapatt keethai har purakh n bheejai nith vaekhai sunai subhaae || |
| Practicing deception, he does not please the Lord God, who always sees and hears with natural ease. |

| ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਜਾਇ ਜਗੁ ਪਰਬੋਧੈ ਬਿਖੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਸੁਆਇ ॥ |
| dhoojai bhaae jaae jag parabodhhai bikh maaeiaa moh suaae || |
| In the love of duality, he goes to instruct the world, but he is engrossed in the poison of Maya and attachment to pleasure. |

| ਇਤੁ ਕਮਾਣੈ ਸਦਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਵੈ ਜੰਮੈ ਮਰੈ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ॥ |
| eith kamaanai sadhaa dhukh paavai janmai marai fir aavai jaae || |
| By doing so, he suffers in constant pain; he is born and then dies, and comes and goes again and again. |

| ਸਹਸਾ ਮੂਲਿ ਨ ਚੁਕਈ ਵਿਚਿ ਵਿਸਟਾ ਪਚੈ ਪਚਾਇ ॥ |
| sehasaa mool n chukee vich visattaa pachai pachaae || |
| His doubts do not leave him at all, and he rots away in manure. |

| ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਤਿਸੁ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸਿਖ ਸੁਣਾਇ ॥ |
| jis no kirapaa karae maeraa suaamee this gur kee sikh sunaae || |
| One, unto whom my Lord Master shows His Mercy, listens to the Guru's Teachings. |

| ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੋ ਗਾਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੋ ਅੰਤਿ ਛਡਾਇ ॥੨॥ |
| har naam dhhiaavai har naamo gaavai har naamo anth shhaddaae ||2|| |
| He meditates on the Lord's Name, and sings the Lord's Name; in the end, the Lord's Name will deliver him. ||2|| |

| Those who obey the Hukam of the Lord's Command, are the perfect persons in the world. |

| ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸੇਵਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਆਪਣਾ ਪੂਰੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥ |
| saahib saevanih aapanaa poorai sabadh veechaar || |
| They serve their Lord Master, and reflect upon the Perfect Word of the Shabad. |

| ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਚਾਕਰੀ ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਿਆਰਿ ॥ |
| har kee saevaa chaakaree sachai sabadh piaar || |
| They serve the Lord, and love the True Word of the Shabad. |

| ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਮਹਲੁ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਮਾਰਿ ॥ |
| har kaa mehal thinhee paaeiaa jinh houmai vichahu maar || |
| They attain the Mansion of the Lord's Presence, as they eradicate egotism from within. |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਰਹੇ ਜਪਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਾ ਉਰ ਧਾਰਿ ॥੧੦॥ |

| O Nanak, the Gurmukhs remain united with Him, chanting the Name of the Lord, and enshrining it within their hearts. ||10|| |

| The Gurmukh meditates on the Lord; the celestial sound-current resounds within him, and he focuses his consciousness on the True Name. |

| The Gurmukh remains imbued with the Lord's Love, night and day; his mind is pleased with the Name of the Lord. |

| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਵੇਖਹਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਬੋਲਹਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਰੰਗੁ ਲਾਇਆ ॥ |
| guramukh har vaekhehi guramukh har bolehi guramukh har sehaj rang laaeiaa || |
| The Gurmukh beholds the Lord, the Gurmukh speaks of the Lord, and the Gurmukh naturally loves the Lord. |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਤਿਮਰ ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ਅਧੇਰੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ॥ |

| O Nanak, the Gurmukh attains spiritual wisdom, and the pitch-black darkness of ignorance is dispelled. |

| They do not meditate on the Celestial Naam, the Name of the Lord - why did they even bother to come into the world? |

| ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਜੂਨੀ ਪਾਈਐ ਵਿਸਟਾ ਸਦਾ ਖੁਆਰੁ ॥ |
| fir fir joonee paaeeai visattaa sadhaa khuaar || |
| Time and time again, they are reincarnated, and they rot away forever in manure. |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਉਬਰੇ ਜਿ ਆਪਿ ਮੇਲੇ ਕਰਤਾਰਿ ॥੨॥ |

| The devotees look beauteous in the True Court of the Lord; they abide in the True Word of the Shabad. |

| ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਤਿਨ ਊਪਜੀ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਕਸਾਏ ॥ |
| har kee preeth thin oopajee har praem kasaaeae || |
| The Lord's Love wells up in them; they are attracted by the Lord's Love. |

| ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਹਹਿ ਸਦਾ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਰਸਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪਿਆਏ ॥ |
| har rang rehehi sadhaa rang raathae rasanaa har ras piaaeae || |
| They abide in the Lord's Love, they remain imbued with the Lord's Love forever, and with their tongues, they drink in the sublime essence of the Lord. |

| ਸਫਲੁ ਜਨਮੁ ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਾਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਰਿਦੈ ਵਸਾਏ ॥ |
| safal janam jinhee guramukh jaathaa har jeeo ridhai vasaaeae || |
| Fruitful are the lives of those Gurmukhs who recognize the Lord and enshrine Him in their hearts. |

| ਬਾਝੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਫਿਰੈ ਬਿਲਲਾਦੀ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਖੁਆਏ ॥੧੧॥ |
| baajh guroo firai bilalaadhee dhoojai bhaae khuaaeae ||11|| |
| Without the Guru, they wander around crying out in misery; in the love of duality, they are ruined. ||11|| |

| In the Dark Age of Kali Yuga, the devotees earn the treasure of the Naam, the Name of the Lord; they obtain the supreme status of the Lord. |

| Serving the True Guru, they enshrine the Lord's Name in their minds, and they meditate on the Naam, night and day. |

| ਵਿਚੇ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਗੁਰ ਬਚਨਿ ਉਦਾਸੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਮੋਹੁ ਜਲਾਇਆ ॥ |
| vichae grih gur bachan oudhaasee houmai mohu jalaaeiaa || |
| Within the home of their own selves, they remain unattached, through the Guru's Teachings; they burn away egotism and emotional attachment. |

| ਆਪਿ ਤਰਿਆ ਕੁਲ ਜਗਤੁ ਤਰਾਇਆ ਧੰਨੁ ਜਣੇਦੀ ਮਾਇਆ ॥ |
| aap thariaa kul jagath tharaaeiaa dhhann janaedhee maaeiaa || |
| They save themselves, and they save the whole world. Blessed are the mothers who gave birth to them. |

| ਐਸਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੋਈ ਪਾਏ ਜਿਸੁ ਧੁਰਿ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਹਰਿ ਲਿਖਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ |
| aisaa sathigur soee paaeae jis dhhur masathak har likh paaeiaa || |
| He alone finds such a True Guru, upon whose forehead the Lord inscribed such pre-ordained destiny. |
