jan naanak balihaaree gur aapanae vittahu jin bhram bhulaa maarag paaeiaa ||1|| |

thrai gun maaeiaa vaekh bhulae jio dhaekh dheepak pathang pachaaeiaa || |
Beholding Maya with her three dispositions, he goes astray; he is like the moth, which sees the flame, and is consumed. |

ਪੰਡਿਤ ਭੁਲਿ ਭੁਲਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਵੇਖਹਿ ਦਿਖਾ ਕਿਨੈ ਕਿਹੁ ਆਣਿ ਚੜਾਇਆ ॥ |
panddith bhul bhul maaeiaa vaekhehi dhikhaa kinai kihu aan charraaeiaa || |
The mistaken, deluded Pandits gaze upon Maya, and watch to see whether anyone has offered them something. |

ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਪੜਹਿ ਨਿਤ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਨਾਵਹੁ ਦਯਿ ਖੁਆਇਆ ॥ |
dhoojai bhaae parrehi nith bikhiaa naavahu dhay khuaaeiaa || |
In the love of duality, they read continually about sin, while the Lord has withheld His Name from them. |

ਜੋਗੀ ਜੰਗਮ ਸੰਨਿਆਸੀ ਭੁਲੇ ਓਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੁ ਬਹੁ ਗਰਬੁ ਵਧਾਇਆ ॥ |
jogee jangam sanniaasee bhulae ounhaa ahankaar bahu garab vadhhaaeiaa || |
The Yogis, the wandering hermits and the Sannyaasees have gone astray; their egotism and arrogance have increased greatly. |

ਛਾਦਨੁ ਭੋਜਨੁ ਨ ਲੈਹੀ ਸਤ ਭਿਖਿਆ ਮਨਹਠਿ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥ |
shhaadhan bhojan n laihee sath bhikhiaa manehath janam gavaaeiaa || |
They do not accept the true donations of clothes and food, and their lives are ruined by their stubborn minds. |

ਏਤੜਿਆ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਸਮਧਾ ਜਿਨਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥ |
eaetharriaa vichahu so jan samadhhaa jin guramukh naam dhhiaaeiaa || |
Among these, he alone is a man of poise, who, as Gurmukh, meditates on the Naam, the Name of the Lord. |

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਿਸ ਨੋ ਆਖਿ ਸੁਣਾਈਐ ਜਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਸਭਿ ਕਰਾਇਆ ॥੨॥ |
jan naanak kis no aakh sunaaeeai jaa karadhae sabh karaaeiaa ||2|| |
Unto whom should servant Nanak speak and complain? All act as the Lord causes them to act. ||2|| |

|
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਪਰੇਤੁ ਹੈ ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਅਹੰਕਾਰਾ ॥ |
maaeiaa mohu paraeth hai kaam krodhh ahankaaraa || |
Emotional attachment to Maya, sexual desire, anger and egotism are demons. |
|
ਏਹ ਜਮ ਕੀ ਸਿਰਕਾਰ ਹੈ ਏਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਉਪਰਿ ਜਮ ਕਾ ਡੰਡੁ ਕਰਾਰਾ ॥ |
eaeh jam kee sirakaar hai eaenhaa oupar jam kaa ddandd karaaraa || |
Because of them, mortals are subject to death; above their heads hangs the heavy club of the Messenger of Death. |

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਜਮ ਮਗਿ ਪਾਈਅਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਦੂਜਾ ਭਾਉ ਪਿਆਰਾ ॥ |
manamukh jam mag paaeeanih jinh dhoojaa bhaao piaaraa || |
The self-willed manmukhs, in love with duality, are led onto the path of Death. |
|
ਜਮ ਪੁਰਿ ਬਧੇ ਮਾਰੀਅਨਿ ਕੋ ਸੁਣੈ ਨ ਪੂਕਾਰਾ ॥ |
jam pur badhhae maareean ko sunai n pookaaraa || |
In the City of Death, they are tied up and beaten, and no one hears their cries. |

ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਿਸਤਾਰਾ ॥੧੨॥ |
jis no kirapaa karae this gur milai guramukh nisathaaraa ||12|| |
One who is blessed by the Lord's Grace meets the Guru; as Gurmukh, he is emancipated. ||12|| |

ਹਉਮੈ ਮਮਤਾ ਮੋਹਣੀ ਮਨਮੁਖਾ ਨੋ ਗਈ ਖਾਇ ॥ |
houmai mamathaa mohanee manamukhaa no gee khaae || |
By egotism and pride, the self-willed manmukhs are enticed, and consumed. |
|
ਜੋ ਮੋਹਿ ਦੂਜੈ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇਦੇ ਤਿਨਾ ਵਿਆਪਿ ਰਹੀ ਲਪਟਾਇ ॥ |
jo mohi dhoojai chith laaeidhae thinaa viaap rehee lapattaae || |
Those who center their consciousness on duality are caught in it, and remain stuck. |
|
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਰਜਾਲੀਐ ਤਾ ਏਹ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਜਾਇ ॥ |
gur kai sabadh parajaaleeai thaa eaeh vichahu jaae || |
But when it is burnt away by the Word of the Guru's Shabad, only then does it depart from within. |

ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਉਜਲਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥ |
than man hovai oujalaa naam vasai man aae || |
The body and mind become radiant and bright, and the Naam, the Name of the Lord, comes to dwell within the mind. |

ਨਾਨਕ ਮਾਇਆ ਕਾ ਮਾਰਣੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥ |
naanak maaeiaa kaa maaran har naam hai guramukh paaeiaa jaae ||1|| |
O Nanak, the Lord's Name is the antidote to Maya; the Gurmukh obtains it. ||1|| |

ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਕੇਤੜਿਆ ਜੁਗ ਭਰਮਿਆ ਥਿਰੁ ਰਹੈ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ॥ |
eihu man kaetharriaa jug bharamiaa thhir rehai n aavai jaae || |
This mind has wandered through so many ages; it has not remained stable - it continues coming and going. |

ਹਰਿ ਭਾਣਾ ਤਾ ਭਰਮਾਇਅਨੁ ਕਰਿ ਪਰਪੰਚੁ ਖੇਲੁ ਉਪਾਇ ॥ |
har bhaanaa thaa bharamaaeian kar parapanch khael oupaae || |
When it is pleasing to the Lord's Will, then He causes the soul to wander; He has set the world-drama in motion. |

ਨਾਨਕ ਮਨ ਹੀ ਤੇ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਨਾ ਕਿਛੁ ਮਰੈ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥੨॥ |
naanak man hee thae man maaniaa naa kishh marai n jaae ||2|| |
O Nanak, through the mind, the mind is satisfied, and then, nothing comes or goes. ||2|| |

ਕਾਇਆ ਕੋਟੁ ਅਪਾਰੁ ਹੈ ਮਿਲਣਾ ਸੰਜੋਗੀ ॥ |
kaaeiaa kott apaar hai milanaa sanjogee || |
The body is the fortress of the Infinite Lord; it is obtained only by destiny. |

ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਆਪਿ ਵਸਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਆਪੇ ਰਸ ਭੋਗੀ ॥ |
kaaeiaa andhar aap vas rehiaa aapae ras bhogee || |
The Lord Himself dwells within the body; He Himself is the Enjoyer of pleasures. |

ਆਪਿ ਅਤੀਤੁ ਅਲਿਪਤੁ ਹੈ ਨਿਰਜੋਗੁ ਹਰਿ ਜੋਗੀ ॥ |
aap atheeth alipath hai nirajog har jogee || |
He Himself remains detached and unaffected; while unattached, He is still attached. |
|
ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਕਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਸੁ ਹੋਗੀ ॥ |
jo this bhaavai so karae har karae s hogee || |
He does whatever He pleases, and whatever He does, comes to pass. |

ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਲਹਿ ਜਾਹਿ ਵਿਜੋਗੀ ॥੧੩॥ |
har guramukh naam dhhiaaeeai lehi jaahi vijogee ||13|| |
The Gurmukh meditates on the Lord's Name, and separation from the Lord is ended. ||13|| |

vaahu vaahu aap akhaaeidhaa gur sabadhee sach soe || |
Waaho! Waaho! The Lord Himself causes us to praise Him, through the True Word of the Guru's Shabad. |

ਵਾਹੁ ਵਾਹੁ ਸਿਫਤਿ ਸਲਾਹ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਕੋਇ ॥ |
vaahu vaahu sifath salaah hai guramukh boojhai koe || |
Waaho! Waaho! is His Eulogy and Praise; how rare are the Gurmukhs who understand this. |

ਵਾਹੁ ਵਾਹੁ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਚੁ ਹੈ ਸਚਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਾ ਹੋਇ ॥ |
vaahu vaahu baanee sach hai sach milaavaa hoe || |
Waaho! Waaho! is the True Word of His Bani, by which we meet our True Lord. |

ਨਾਨਕ ਵਾਹੁ ਵਾਹੁ ਕਰਤਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਕਰਮਿ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥ |
naanak vaahu vaahu karathiaa prabh paaeiaa karam paraapath hoe ||1|| |
O Nanak, chanting Waaho! Waaho! God is attained; by His Grace, He is obtained. ||1|| |

Chanting Waaho! Waaho! the tongue is adorned with the Word of the Shabad. |

ਪੂਰੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਆਈ ॥ |
poorai sabadh prabh miliaa aaee || |
Through the Perfect Shabad, one comes to meet God. |
|
ਵਡਭਾਗੀਆ ਵਾਹੁ ਵਾਹੁ ਮੁਹਹੁ ਕਢਾਈ ॥ |
vaddabhaageeaa vaahu vaahu muhahu kadtaaee || |
How very fortunate are those, who with their mouths, chant Waaho! Waaho! |

ਵਾਹੁ ਵਾਹੁ ਕਰਹਿ ਸੇਈ ਜਨ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਕਉ ਪਰਜਾ ਪੂਜਣ ਆਈ ॥ |
vaahu vaahu karehi saeee jan sohanae thinh ko parajaa poojan aaee || |
How beautiful are those persons who chant Waaho! Waaho! ; people come to venerate them. |

ਵਾਹੁ ਵਾਹੁ ਕਰਮਿ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਈ ॥੨॥ |
vaahu vaahu karam paraapath hovai naanak dhar sachai sobhaa paaee ||2|| |
Waaho! Waaho! is obtained by His Grace; O Nanak, honor is obtained at the Gate of the True Lord. ||2|| |

bajar kapaatt kaaeiaa garrh bheethar koorr kusath abhimaanee || |
Within the fortress of body, are the hard and rigid doors of falsehood, deception and pride. |

ਭਰਮਿ ਭੂਲੇ ਨਦਰਿ ਨ ਆਵਨੀ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਅੰਧ ਅਗਿਆਨੀ ॥ |
bharam bhoolae nadhar n aavanee manamukh andhh agiaanee || |
Deluded by doubt, the blind and ignorant self-willed manmukhs cannot see them. |

ਉਪਾਇ ਕਿਤੈ ਨ ਲਭਨੀ ਕਰਿ ਭੇਖ ਥਕੇ ਭੇਖਵਾਨੀ ॥ |
oupaae kithai n labhanee kar bhaekh thhakae bhaekhavaanee || |
They cannot be found by any efforts; wearing their religious robes, the wearers have grown weary of trying. |
|
ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਖੋਲਾਈਅਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਾਨੀ ॥ |
gur sabadhee kholaaeeanih har naam japaanee || |
The doors are opened only by the Word of the Guru's Shabad, and then, one chants the Name of the Lord. |

ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬਿਰਖੁ ਹੈ ਜਿਨ ਪੀਆ ਤੇ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਨੀ ॥੧੪॥ |
har jeeo anmrith birakh hai jin peeaa thae thripathaanee ||14|| |
The Dear Lord is the Tree of Ambrosial Nectar; those who drink in this Nectar are satisfied. ||14|| |
