| ਤਦਹੁ ਕਿਆ ਕੋ ਲੇਵੈ ਕਿਆ ਕੋ ਦੇਵੈ ਜਾਂ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਦੂਜਾ ਕੀਆ ॥ |
| thadhahu kiaa ko laevai kiaa ko dhaevai jaan avar n dhoojaa keeaa || |
| so what can anyone take, and what can anyone give, when He did not create any other like Himself? |

| ਫਿਰਿ ਆਪੇ ਜਗਤੁ ਉਪਾਇਆ ਕਰਤੈ ਦਾਨੁ ਸਭਨਾ ਕਉ ਦੀਆ ॥ |
| fir aapae jagath oupaaeiaa karathai dhaan sabhanaa ko dheeaa || |
| Then, after fashioning the world, the Creator blessed all with His blessings. |

| ਆਪੇ ਸੇਵ ਬਣਾਈਅਨੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਆਪੇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀਆ ॥ |
| aapae saev banaaeean guramukh aapae anmrith peeaa || |
| He Himself instructs us in His service, and as Gurmukh, we drink in His Ambrosial Nectar. |

| ਆਪਿ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ਆਕਾਰੁ ਹੈ ਆਪੇ ਆਪੇ ਕਰੈ ਸੁ ਥੀਆ ॥੭॥ |
| aap nirankaar aakaar hai aapae aapae karai s thheeaa ||7|| |
| He Himself is formless, and He Himself is formed; whatever He Himself does, comes to pass. ||7|| |

| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਸਦ ਸਾਚਾ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸਹਜਿ ਪਿਆਰਿ ॥ |
| guramukh prabh saevehi sadh saachaa anadhin sehaj piaar || |
| The Gurmukhs serve God forever; night and day, they are steeped in the Love of the True Lord. |

| ਸਦਾ ਅਨੰਦਿ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਗੁਣ ਸਾਚੇ ਅਰਧਿ ਉਰਧਿ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰਿ ॥ |
| sadhaa anandh gaavehi gun saachae aradhh ouradhh our dhhaar || |
| They are in bliss forever, singing the Glorious Praises of the True Lord; in this world and in the next, they keep Him clasped to their hearts. |

| ਅੰਤਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਵਸਿਆ ਧੁਰਿ ਕਰਮੁ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਕਰਤਾਰਿ ॥ |

| Their Beloved dwells deep within; the Creator pre-ordained this destiny. |

| By merely talking and speaking, He is not found. Night and day, sing His Glorious Praises continually. |

| ਵਿਣੁ ਕਰਮੈ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਾਇਓ ਭਉਕਿ ਮੁਏ ਬਿਲਲਾਇ ॥ |
| vin karamai kinai n paaeiou bhouk mueae bilalaae || |
| Without His Merciful Grace, no one finds Him; many have died barking and bewailing. |

| ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਭਿਜੈ ਆਪਿ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥ |
| gur kai sabadh man than bhijai aap vasai man aae || |
| When the mind and body are saturated with the Word of the Guru's Shabad, the Lord Himself comes to dwell in his mind. |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਨਦਰੀ ਪਾਈਐ ਆਪੇ ਲਏ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥੨॥ |

| He Himself is the Vedas, the Puraanas and all the Shaastras; He Himself chants them, and He Himself is pleased. |

| ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਬਹਿ ਪੂਜੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਆਪਿ ਪਰਪੰਚੁ ਕਰੀਜੈ ॥ |
| aapae hee behi poojae karathaa aap parapanch kareejai || |
| He Himself sits down to worship, and He Himself creates the world. |

| ਆਪਿ ਪਰਵਿਰਤਿ ਆਪਿ ਨਿਰਵਿਰਤੀ ਆਪੇ ਅਕਥੁ ਕਥੀਜੈ ॥ |
| aap paravirath aap niravirathee aapae akathh kathheejai || |
| He Himself is a householder, and He Himself is a renunciate; He Himself utters the Unutterable. |

| ਆਪੇ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਸਭੁ ਆਪਿ ਕਰਾਏ ਆਪਿ ਅਲਿਪਤੁ ਵਰਤੀਜੈ ॥ |
| aapae punn sabh aap karaaeae aap alipath varatheejai || |
| He Himself is all goodness, and He Himself causes us to act; He Himself remains detached. |

| ਆਪੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਦੇਵੈ ਕਰਤਾ ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸ ਕਰੀਜੈ ॥੮॥ |
| aapae sukh dhukh dhaevai karathaa aapae bakhas kareejai ||8|| |
| He Himself grants pleasure and pain; the Creator Himself bestows His gifts. ||8|| |

| saekhaa andharahu jor shhadd thoo bho kar jhal gavaae || |
| O Shaykh, abandon your cruel nature; live in the Fear of God and give up your madness. |

| ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਭੈ ਕੇਤੇ ਨਿਸਤਰੇ ਭੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਪਾਇ ॥ |
| gur kai bhai kaethae nisatharae bhai vich nirabho paae || |
| Through the Fear of the Guru, many have been saved; in this fear, find the Fearless Lord. |

| ਮਨੁ ਕਠੋਰੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਭੇਦਿ ਤੂੰ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥ |
| man kathor sabadh bhaedh thoon saanth vasai man aae || |
| Pierce your stone heart with the Word of the Shabad; let peace and tranquility come to abide in your mind. |

| ਸਾਂਤੀ ਵਿਚਿ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਵਣੀ ਸਾ ਖਸਮੁ ਪਾਏ ਥਾਇ ॥ |
| saanthee vich kaar kamaavanee saa khasam paaeae thhaae || |
| If good deeds are done in this state of peace, they are approved by the Lord and Master. |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਕਾਮਿ ਕ੍ਰੋਧਿ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਾਇਓ ਪੁਛਹੁ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥ |
| naanak kaam krodhh kinai n paaeiou pushhahu giaanee jaae ||1|| |
| O Nanak, through sexual desire and anger, no one has ever found God - go, and ask any wise man. ||1|| |

| ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਹੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਨ ਲਗੋ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥ |
| manamukh maaeiaa mohu hai naam n lago piaar || |
| The self-willed manmukh is emotionally attached to Maya - he has no love for the Naam. |

| ਕੂੜੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਕੂੜੁ ਸੰਗ੍ਰਹੈ ਕੂੜੁ ਕਰੇ ਆਹਾਰੁ ॥ |
| koorr kamaavai koorr sangrehai koorr karae aahaar || |
| He practices falsehood, gathers in falsehood, and makes falsehood his sustenance. |
|
| ਬਿਖੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਧਨੁ ਸੰਚਿ ਮਰਹਿ ਅੰਤੇ ਹੋਇ ਸਭੁ ਛਾਰੁ ॥ |
| bikh maaeiaa dhhan sanch marehi anthae hoe sabh shhaar || |
| He collects the poisonous wealth of Maya, and then dies; in the end, it is all reduced to ashes. |

| ਕਰਮ ਧਰਮ ਸੁਚ ਸੰਜਮ ਕਰਹਿ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਲੋਭੁ ਵਿਕਾਰੁ ॥ |
| karam dhharam such sanjam karehi anthar lobh vikaar || |
| He practices religious rituals, purity and austere self-discipline, but within, there is greed and corruption. |
|
| ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿ ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਸੁ ਥਾਇ ਨਾ ਪਵੈ ਦਰਗਹਿ ਹੋਇ ਖੁਆਰੁ ॥੨॥ |
| naanak j manamukh kamaavai s thhaae naa pavai dharagehi hoe khuaar ||2|| |
| O Nanak, whatever the self-willed manmukh does, is not acceptable; in the Court of the Lord, he is dishonored. ||2|| |

| He Himself created the four sources of creation, and He Himself fashioned speech; He Himself formed the worlds and solar systems. |

| ਆਪਿ ਸਮੁੰਦੁ ਆਪਿ ਹੈ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਵਿਚਿ ਰਤਨ ਧਰੇ ॥ |
| aap samundh aap hai saagar aapae hee vich rathan dhharae || |
| He Himself is the ocean, and He Himself is the sea; He Himself puts the pearls in it. |
|
| ਆਪਿ ਲਹਾਏ ਕਰੇ ਜਿਸੁ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕਰੇ ਹਰੇ ॥ |
| aap lehaaeae karae jis kirapaa jis no guramukh karae harae || |
| By His Grace, the Lord enables the Gurmukh to find these pearls. |

| ਆਪੇ ਭਉਜਲੁ ਆਪਿ ਹੈ ਬੋਹਿਥਾ ਆਪੇ ਖੇਵਟੁ ਆਪਿ ਤਰੇ ॥ |
| aapae bhoujal aap hai bohithhaa aapae khaevatt aap tharae || |
| He Himself is the terrifying world-ocean, and He Himself is the boat; He Himself is the boatman, and He Himself ferries us across. |

| ਆਪੇ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਏ ਕਰਤਾ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਦੂਜਾ ਤੁਝੈ ਸਰੇ ॥੯॥ |
| aapae karae karaaeae karathaa avar n dhoojaa thujhai sarae ||9|| |
| The Creator Himself acts, and causes us to act; no one else can equal You, Lord. ||9|| |

| Fruitful is service to the True Guru, if one does so with a sincere mind. |

| ਨਾਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਅਚਿੰਤੁ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥ |
| naam padhaarathh paaeeai achinth vasai man aae || |
| The treasure of the Naam, is obtained, and the mind comes to be free of anxiety. |

| ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੁਖੁ ਕਟੀਐ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਮਤਾ ਜਾਇ ॥ |
| janam maran dhukh katteeai houmai mamathaa jaae || |
| The pains of birth and death are eradicated, and the mind is rid of egotism and self-conceit. |

| ਉਤਮ ਪਦਵੀ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਚੇ ਰਹੈ ਸਮਾਇ ॥ |
| outham padhavee paaeeai sachae rehai samaae || |
| One achieves the ultimate state, and remains absorbed in the True Lord. |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਪੂਰਬਿ ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਤਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਆਇ ॥੧॥ |
| naanak poorab jin ko likhiaa thinaa sathigur miliaa aae ||1|| |
| O Nanak, the True Guru comes and meets those who have such pre-ordained destiny. ||1|| |

| The True Guru is imbued with the Naam, the Name of the Lord; He is the boat in this Dark Age of Kali Yuga. |

| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੁ ਪਾਰਿ ਪਵੈ ਜਿਨਾ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਸਚਾ ਸੋਇ ॥ |
| guramukh hovai s paar pavai jinaa andhar sachaa soe || |
| One who becomes Gurmukh crosses over; the True Lord dwells within him. |

| ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਲੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੰਗ੍ਰਹੈ ਨਾਮੇ ਹੀ ਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥ |
| naam samhaalae naam sangrehai naamae hee path hoe || |
| He remembers the Naam, he gathers in the Naam, and he obtains honor through the Naam. |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਕਰਮਿ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥੨॥ |
| naanak sathigur paaeiaa karam paraapath hoe ||2|| |
