| ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਮੰਦਰੁ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਕੀਆ ਕਰਣੈਹਾਰਿ ॥ |
| har kaa mandhar sohanaa keeaa karanaihaar || |
| The Temple of the Lord is beautiful; it was made by the Creator Lord. |

| ਰਵਿ ਸਸਿ ਦੀਪ ਅਨੂਪ ਜੋਤਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਅਪਾਰ ॥ |
| rav sas dheep anoop joth thribhavan joth apaar || |
| The sun and the moon are lamps of incomparably beautiful light. Throughout the three worlds, the Infinite Light is pervading. |

| ਹਾਟ ਪਟਣ ਗੜ ਕੋਠੜੀ ਸਚੁ ਸਉਦਾ ਵਾਪਾਰ ॥੨॥ |
| haatt pattan garr kotharree sach soudhaa vaapaar ||2|| |
| In the shops of the city of the body, in the fortresses and in the huts, the True Merchandise is traded. ||2|| |
|
| ਗਿਆਨ ਅੰਜਨੁ ਭੈ ਭੰਜਨਾ ਦੇਖੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਭਾਇ ॥ |
| giaan anjan bhai bhanjanaa dhaekh niranjan bhaae || |
| The ointment of spiritual wisdom is the destroyer of fear; through love, the Pure One is seen. |

| ਗੁਪਤੁ ਪ੍ਰਗਟੁ ਸਭ ਜਾਣੀਐ ਜੇ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਖੈ ਠਾਇ ॥ |
| gupath pragatt sabh jaaneeai jae man raakhai thaae || |
| The mysteries of the seen and the unseen are all known, if the mind is kept centered and balanced. |
|
| ਐਸਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਜੇ ਮਿਲੈ ਤਾ ਸਹਜੇ ਲਏ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥੩॥ |
| aisaa sathigur jae milai thaa sehajae leae milaae ||3|| |
| If one finds such a True Guru, the Lord is met with intuitive ease. ||3|| |
|
| ਕਸਿ ਕਸਵਟੀ ਲਾਈਐ ਪਰਖੇ ਹਿਤੁ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇ ॥ |
| kas kasavattee laaeeai parakhae hith chith laae || |
| He draws us to His Touchstone, to test our love and consciousness. |
|
| ਖੋਟੇ ਠਉਰ ਨ ਪਾਇਨੀ ਖਰੇ ਖਜਾਨੈ ਪਾਇ ॥ |
| khottae thour n paaeinee kharae khajaanai paae || |
| The counterfeit have no place there, but the genuine are placed in His Treasury. |
|
| ਆਸ ਅੰਦੇਸਾ ਦੂਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਇਉ ਮਲੁ ਜਾਇ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੪॥ |
| aas andhaesaa dhoor kar eio mal jaae samaae ||4|| |
| Let your hopes and anxieties depart; thus pollution is washed away. ||4|| |
|
| ਸੁਖ ਕਉ ਮਾਗੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਦੁਖੁ ਨ ਮਾਗੈ ਕੋਇ ॥ |
| sukh ko maagai sabh ko dhukh n maagai koe || |
| Everyone begs for happiness; no one asks for suffering. |
|
| ਸੁਖੈ ਕਉ ਦੁਖੁ ਅਗਲਾ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਬੂਝ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥ |
| sukhai ko dhukh agalaa manamukh boojh n hoe || |
| But in the wake of happiness, there comes great suffering. The self-willed manmukhs do not understand this. |
|
| ਸੁਖ ਦੁਖ ਸਮ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਣੀਅਹਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਭੇਦਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੫॥ |
| sukh dhukh sam kar jaaneeahi sabadh bhaedh sukh hoe ||5|| |
| Those who see pain and pleasure as one and the same find peace; they are pierced through by the Shabad. ||5|| |
|
| ਬੇਦੁ ਪੁਕਾਰੇ ਵਾਚੀਐ ਬਾਣੀ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਬਿਆਸੁ ॥ |
| baedh pukaarae vaacheeai baanee breham biaas || |
| The Vedas proclaim, and the words of Vyaasa tell us, |
|
| ਮੁਨਿ ਜਨ ਸੇਵਕ ਸਾਧਿਕਾ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਗੁਣਤਾਸੁ ॥ |
| mun jan saevak saadhhikaa naam rathae gunathaas || |
| that the silent sages, the servants of the Lord, and those who practice a life of spiritual discipline are attuned to the Naam, the Treasure of Excellence. |
|
| ਸਚਿ ਰਤੇ ਸੇ ਜਿਣਿ ਗਏ ਹਉ ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੈ ਜਾਸੁ ॥੬॥ |
| sach rathae sae jin geae ho sadh balihaarai jaas ||6|| |
| Those who are attuned to the True Name win the game of life; I am forever a sacrifice to them. ||6|| |
|
| ਚਹੁ ਜੁਗਿ ਮੈਲੇ ਮਲੁ ਭਰੇ ਜਿਨ ਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥ |
| chahu jug mailae mal bharae jin mukh naam n hoe || |
| Those who do not have the Naam in their mouths are filled with pollution; they are filthy throughout the four ages. |
|
| ਭਗਤੀ ਭਾਇ ਵਿਹੂਣਿਆ ਮੁਹੁ ਕਾਲਾ ਪਤਿ ਖੋਇ ॥ |
| bhagathee bhaae vihooniaa muhu kaalaa path khoe || |
| Without loving devotion to God, their faces are blackened, and their honor is lost. |
|
| ਜਿਨੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਆ ਅਵਗਣ ਮੁਠੀ ਰੋਇ ॥੭॥ |
| jinee naam visaariaa avagan muthee roe ||7|| |
| Those who have forgotten the Naam are plundered by evil; they weep and wail in dismay. ||7|| |
|
| ਖੋਜਤ ਖੋਜਤ ਪਾਇਆ ਡਰੁ ਕਰਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥ |
| khojath khojath paaeiaa ddar kar milai milaae || |
| I searched and searched, and found God. In the Fear of God, I have been united in His Union. |
|
| ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ਘਰਿ ਵਸੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਜਾਇ ॥ |
| aap pashhaanai ghar vasai houmai thrisanaa jaae || |
| Through self-realization, people dwell within the home of their inner being; egotism and desire depart. |
|
| ਨਾਨਕ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਊਜਲੇ ਜੋ ਰਾਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਇ ॥੮॥੭॥ |
| naanak niramal oojalae jo raathae har naae ||8||7|| |
| O Nanak, those who are attuned to the Name of the Lord are immaculate and radiant. ||8||7|| |

| Listen, O deluded and demented mind: hold tight to the Guru's Feet. |

| ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ਤੂ ਜਮੁ ਡਰਪੈ ਦੁਖ ਭਾਗੁ ॥ |
| har jap naam dhhiaae thoo jam ddarapai dhukh bhaag || |
| Chant and meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Lord; death will be afraid of you, and suffering shall depart. |
|
| ਭਾਈ ਰੇ ਅਵਰੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਮੈ ਥਾਉ ॥ |
| bhaaee rae avar naahee mai thhaao || |
| O Siblings of Destiny, I have no other place to go. |
|
| ਮੈ ਧਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| mai dhhan naam nidhhaan hai gur dheeaa bal jaao ||1|| rehaao || |
| The Guru has given me the Treasure of the Wealth of the Naam; I am a sacrifice to Him. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਪਤਿ ਸਾਬਾਸਿ ਤਿਸੁ ਤਿਸ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਉ ॥ |
| guramath path saabaas this this kai sang milaao || |
| The Guru's Teachings bring honor. Blessed is He-may I meet and be with Him! |

| ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਘੜੀ ਨ ਜੀਵਊ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਉ ॥ |
| this bin gharree n jeevoo bin naavai mar jaao || |
| Without Him, I cannot live, even for a moment. Without His Name, I die. |
|
| ਮੈ ਅੰਧੁਲੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਵੀਸਰੈ ਟੇਕ ਟਿਕੀ ਘਰਿ ਜਾਉ ॥੨॥ |
| mai andhhulae naam n veesarai ttaek ttikee ghar jaao ||2|| |
| I am blind-may I never forget the Naam! Under His Protection, I shall reach my true home. ||2|| |
|
| ਗੁਰੂ ਜਿਨਾ ਕਾ ਅੰਧੁਲਾ ਚੇਲੇ ਨਾਹੀ ਠਾਉ ॥ |
| guroo jinaa kaa andhhulaa chaelae naahee thaao || |
| Those chaylaas, those devotees, whose spiritual teacher is blind, shall not find their place of rest. |
|
| ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਨਾਉ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਕਿਆ ਸੁਆਉ ॥ |
| bin sathigur naao n paaeeai bin naavai kiaa suaao || |
| Without the True Guru, the Name is not obtained. Without the Name, what is the use of it all? |
|
| ਆਇ ਗਇਆ ਪਛੁਤਾਵਣਾ ਜਿਉ ਸੁੰਞੈ ਘਰਿ ਕਾਉ ॥੩॥ |
| aae gaeiaa pashhuthaavanaa jio sunnjai ghar kaao ||3|| |
| People come and go, regretting and repenting, like crows in a deserted house. ||3|| |
|
| ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਦੇਹੁਰੀ ਜਿਉ ਕਲਰ ਕੀ ਭੀਤਿ ॥ |
| bin naavai dhukh dhaehuree jio kalar kee bheeth || |
| Without the Name, the body suffers in pain; it crumbles like a wall of sand. |
|
| ਤਬ ਲਗੁ ਮਹਲੁ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਜਬ ਲਗੁ ਸਾਚੁ ਨ ਚੀਤਿ ॥ |
| thab lag mehal n paaeeai jab lag saach n cheeth || |
| As long as Truth does not enter into the consciousness, the Mansion of the Lord's Presence is not found. |
|
| ਸਬਦਿ ਰਪੈ ਘਰੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਨਿਰਬਾਣੀ ਪਦੁ ਨੀਤਿ ॥੪॥ |
| sabadh rapai ghar paaeeai nirabaanee padh neeth ||4|| |
| Attuned to the Shabad, we enter our home, and obtain the Eternal State of Nirvaanaa. ||4|| |
|
| ਹਉ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਛਉ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰ ਪੁਛਿ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਉ ॥ |
| ho gur pooshho aapanae gur pushh kaar kamaao || |
| I ask my Guru for His Advice, and I follow the Guru's Advice. |
|
| ਸਬਦਿ ਸਲਾਹੀ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਜਲਿ ਜਾਉ ॥ |
| sabadh salaahee man vasai houmai dhukh jal jaao || |
| With the Shabads of Praise abiding in the mind, the pain of egotism is burnt away. |
|
| ਸਹਜੇ ਹੋਇ ਮਿਲਾਵੜਾ ਸਾਚੇ ਸਾਚਿ ਮਿਲਾਉ ॥੫॥ |
| sehajae hoe milaavarraa saachae saach milaao ||5|| |
| We are intuitively united with Him, and we meet the Truest of the True. ||5|| |
|
| ਸਬਦਿ ਰਤੇ ਸੇ ਨਿਰਮਲੇ ਤਜਿ ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੁ ॥ |
| sabadh rathae sae niramalae thaj kaam krodhh ahankaar || |
| Those who are attuned to the Shabad are spotless and pure; they renounce sexual desire, anger, selfishness and conceit. |
|
| ਨਾਮੁ ਸਲਾਹਨਿ ਸਦ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਖਹਿ ਉਰ ਧਾਰਿ ॥ |
| naam salaahan sadh sadhaa har raakhehi our dhhaar || |
| They sing the Praises of the Naam, forever and ever; they keep the Lord enshrined within their hearts. |
|
| ਸੋ ਕਿਉ ਮਨਹੁ ਵਿਸਾਰੀਐ ਸਭ ਜੀਆ ਕਾ ਆਧਾਰੁ ॥੬॥ |
| so kio manahu visaareeai sabh jeeaa kaa aadhhaar ||6|| |
| How could we ever forget Him from our minds? He is the Support of all beings. ||6|| |
|
| ਸਬਦਿ ਮਰੈ ਸੋ ਮਰਿ ਰਹੈ ਫਿਰਿ ਮਰੈ ਨ ਦੂਜੀ ਵਾਰ ॥ |
| sabadh marai so mar rehai fir marai n dhoojee vaar || |
| One who dies in the Shabad is beyond death, and shall never die again. |
|
| ਸਬਦੈ ਹੀ ਤੇ ਪਾਈਐ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੇ ਲਗੈ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥ |
| sabadhai hee thae paaeeai har naamae lagai piaar || |
| Through the Shabad, we find Him, and embrace love for the Name of the Lord. |
|
| ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਜਗੁ ਭੂਲਾ ਫਿਰੈ ਮਰਿ ਜਨਮੈ ਵਾਰੋ ਵਾਰ ॥੭॥ |
| bin sabadhai jag bhoolaa firai mar janamai vaaro vaar ||7|| |
| Without the Shabad, the world is deceived; it dies and is reborn, over and over again. ||7|| |
|
| ਸਭ ਸਾਲਾਹੈ ਆਪ ਕਉ ਵਡਹੁ ਵਡੇਰੀ ਹੋਇ ॥ |
| sabh saalaahai aap ko vaddahu vaddaeree hoe || |
| All praise themselves, and call themselves the greatest of the great. |
|
| ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਆਪੁ ਨ ਚੀਨੀਐ ਕਹੇ ਸੁਣੇ ਕਿਆ ਹੋਇ ॥ |
| gur bin aap n cheeneeai kehae sunae kiaa hoe || |
| Without the Guru, one's self cannot be known. By merely speaking and listening, what is accomplished? |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਣੀਐ ਹਉਮੈ ਕਰੈ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥੮॥੮॥ |
| naanak sabadh pashhaaneeai houmai karai n koe ||8||8|| |
| O Nanak, one who realizes the Shabad does not act in egotism. ||8||8|| |
