| ਮਨ ਮੇਰਿਆ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਤੇਰੈ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਹੈ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਵਸਤੁ ਨ ਭਾਲਿ ॥ |
| man maeriaa anthar thaerai nidhhaan hai baahar vasath n bhaal || |
| O my mind, the treasure is within you; do not search for it on the outside. |

| ਜੋ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਭੁੰਚਿ ਤੂ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਦਰਿ ਨਿਹਾਲਿ ॥ |
| jo bhaavai so bhunch thoo guramukh nadhar nihaal || |
| Eat only that which is pleasing to the Lord, and as Gurmukh, receive the blessing of His Glance of Grace. |

| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਦਰਿ ਨਿਹਾਲਿ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਖਾਈ ॥ |
| guramukh nadhar nihaal man maerae anthar har naam sakhaaee || |
| As Gurmukh, receive the blessing of His Glance of Grace, O my mind; the Name of the Lord, your help and support, is within you. |

| ਮਨਮੁਖ ਅੰਧੁਲੇ ਗਿਆਨ ਵਿਹੂਣੇ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਖੁਆਈ ॥ |
| manamukh andhhulae giaan vihoonae dhoojai bhaae khuaaee || |
| The self-willed manmukhs are blind, and devoid of wisdom; they are ruined by the love of duality. |
|
| ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਕੋ ਛੂਟੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਸਭ ਬਾਧੀ ਜਮਕਾਲਿ ॥ |
| bin naavai ko shhoottai naahee sabh baadhhee jamakaal || |
| Without the Name, no one is emancipated. All are bound by the Messenger of Death. |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਤੇਰੈ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਹੈ ਤੂ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਵਸਤੁ ਨ ਭਾਲਿ ॥੨॥ |

| O my mind, obtaining the blessing of this human birth, some are engaged in the trade of Truth. |

| ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਨਿ ਆਪਣਾ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥ |
| sathigur saevan aapanaa anthar sabadh apaaraa || |
| They serve their True Guru, and the Infinite Word of the Shabad resounds within them. |

| ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਅਪਾਰਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਨਾਮੇ ਨਉ ਨਿਧਿ ਪਾਈ ॥ |
| anthar sabadh apaaraa har naam piaaraa naamae no nidhh paaee || |
| Within them is the Infinite Shabad, and the Beloved Naam, the Name of the Lord; through the Naam, the nine treasures are obtained. |

| ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਆਪੇ ਦੂਖਿ ਸੰਤਾਪੇ ਦੂਜੈ ਪਤਿ ਗਵਾਈ ॥ |
| manamukh maaeiaa moh viaapae dhookh santhaapae dhoojai path gavaaee || |
| The self-willed manmukhs are engrossed in emotional attachment to Maya; they suffer in pain, and through duality, they lose their honor. |
|
| ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਸਚਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਮਾਣੇ ਸਚਿ ਰਤੇ ਅਧਿਕਾਈ ॥ |
| houmai maar sach sabadh samaanae sach rathae adhhikaaee || |
| But those who conquer their ego, and merge in the True Shabad, are totally imbued with Truth. |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਮਾਣਸ ਜਨਮੁ ਦੁਲੰਭੁ ਹੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਬੂਝ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥੩॥ |
| naanak maanas janam dhulanbh hai sathigur boojh bujhaaee ||3|| |
| O Nanak, it is so difficult to obtain this human life; the True Guru imparts this understanding. ||3|| |

| ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਨਿ ਆਪਣਾ ਸੇ ਜਨ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਰਾਮ ॥ |

| O my mind, those who serve their True Guru are the most fortunate beings. |
|
| ਜੋ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਰਹਿ ਆਪਣਾ ਸੇ ਪੁਰਖ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਰਾਮ ॥ |
| jo man maarehi aapanaa sae purakh bairaagee raam || |
| Those who conquer their minds are beings of renunciation and detachment. |
|
| ਸੇ ਜਨ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਸਚਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੀ ਆਪਣਾ ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ॥ |
| sae jan bairaagee sach liv laagee aapanaa aap pashhaaniaa || |
| They are beings of renunciation and detachment, who lovingly focus their consciousness on the True Lord; they realize and understand their own selves. |
|
| ਮਤਿ ਨਿਹਚਲ ਅਤਿ ਗੂੜੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਹਜੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਖਾਣਿਆ ॥ |
| math nihachal ath goorree guramukh sehajae naam vakhaaniaa || |
| Their intellect is steady, deep and profound; as Gurmukh, they naturally chant the Naam, the Name of the Lord. |
|
| ਇਕ ਕਾਮਣਿ ਹਿਤਕਾਰੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਪਿਆਰੀ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਸੋਇ ਰਹੇ ਅਭਾਗੇ ॥ |
| eik kaaman hithakaaree maaeiaa mohi piaaree manamukh soe rehae abhaagae || |
| Some are lovers of beautiful young women; emotional attachment to Maya is very dear to them. The unfortunate self-willed manmukhs remain asleep. |
|
| ਨਾਨਕ ਸਹਜੇ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਅਪਣਾ ਸੇ ਪੂਰੇ ਵਡਭਾਗੇ ॥੪॥੩॥ |
| naanak sehajae saevehi gur apanaa sae poorae vaddabhaagae ||4||3|| |
| O Nanak, those who intuitively serve their Guru, have perfect destiny. ||4||3|| |

| Purchase the jewel, the invaluable treasure; the True Guru has given this understanding. |

| ਗੁਣ ਮਹਿ ਗੁਣੀ ਸਮਾਏ ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪਿ ਬੁਝਾਏ ਲਾਹਾ ਭਗਤਿ ਸੈਸਾਰੇ ॥ |
| gun mehi gunee samaaeae jis aap bujhaaeae laahaa bhagath saisaarae || |
| One's virtues merge into the virtues of the Lord; he comes to understand his own self. He earns the profit of devotional worship in this world. |

| ਬਿਨੁ ਭਗਤੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਨ ਹੋਈ ਦੂਜੈ ਪਤਿ ਖੋਈ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਧਾਰੇ ॥ |
| bin bhagathee sukh n hoee dhoojai path khoee guramath naam adhhaarae || |
| Without devotion, there is no peace; through duality, one's honor is lost, but under Guru's Instruction, he is blessed with the Support of the Naam. |
|
| ਵਖਰੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਦਾ ਲਾਭੁ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਏਤੁ ਵਾਪਾਰਿ ਲਾਏ ॥ |
| vakhar naam sadhaa laabh hai jis no eaeth vaapaar laaeae || |
| He ever earns the profit of the merchandise of the Naam, whom the Lord employs in this Trade. |
|
| ਰਤਨ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਵਣਜੀਅਹਿ ਜਾਂ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਦੇਇ ਬੁਝਾਏ ॥੧॥ |

| He purchases the jewel, the invaluable treasure, unto whom the True Guru has given this understanding. ||1|| |

| The love of Maya is totally painful; this is a bad deal. |

| ਕੂੜੁ ਬੋਲਿ ਬਿਖੁ ਖਾਵਣੀ ਬਹੁ ਵਧਹਿ ਵਿਕਾਰਾ ਰਾਮ ॥ |
| koorr bol bikh khaavanee bahu vadhhehi vikaaraa raam || |
| Speaking falsehood, one eats poison, and the evil within increases greatly. |
|
| ਬਹੁ ਵਧਹਿ ਵਿਕਾਰਾ ਸਹਸਾ ਇਹੁ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਪਤਿ ਖੋਈ ॥ |
| bahu vadhhehi vikaaraa sehasaa eihu sansaaraa bin naavai path khoee || |
| The evil within increases greatly, in this world of doubt; without the Name, one's honor is lost. |
|
| ਪੜਿ ਪੜਿ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਵਾਦੁ ਵਖਾਣਹਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਬੂਝੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥ |
| parr parr panddith vaadh vakhaanehi bin boojhae sukh n hoee || |
| Reading and studying, the religious scholars argue and debate; but without understanding, there is no peace. |
|
| ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣਾ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਚੂਕੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਪਿਆਰਾ ॥ |
| aavan jaanaa kadhae n chookai maaeiaa moh piaaraa || |
| Their comings and goings never end; emotional attachment to Maya is dear to them. |

| ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਸਭੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਹੈ ਖੋਟਾ ਇਹੁ ਵਾਪਾਰਾ ॥੨॥ |
| maaeiaa mohu sabh dhukh hai khottaa eihu vaapaaraa ||2|| |
| The love of Maya is totally painful; this is a bad deal. ||2|| |

| The counterfeit and the genuine are all assayed in the Court of the True Lord. |

| ਖੋਟੇ ਦਰਗਹ ਸੁਟੀਅਨਿ ਊਭੇ ਕਰਨਿ ਪੁਕਾਰਾ ਰਾਮ ॥ |
| khottae dharageh sutteean oobhae karan pukaaraa raam || |
| The counterfeit are cast out of the Court, and they stand there, crying out in misery. |
|
| ਊਭੇ ਕਰਨਿ ਪੁਕਾਰਾ ਮੁਗਧ ਗਵਾਰਾ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥ |
| oobhae karan pukaaraa mugadhh gavaaraa manamukh janam gavaaeiaa || |
| They stand there, crying out in misery; the foolish, idiotic, self-willed manmukhs have wasted their lives. |
|
| ਬਿਖਿਆ ਮਾਇਆ ਜਿਨਿ ਜਗਤੁ ਭੁਲਾਇਆ ਸਾਚਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਭਾਇਆ ॥ |
| bikhiaa maaeiaa jin jagath bhulaaeiaa saachaa naam n bhaaeiaa || |
| Maya is the poison which has deluded the world; it does not love the Naam, the Name of the Lord. |
|
| ਮਨਮੁਖ ਸੰਤਾ ਨਾਲਿ ਵੈਰੁ ਕਰਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਖਟੇ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥ |
| manamukh santhaa naal vair kar dhukh khattae sansaaraa || |
| The self-willed manmukhs are resentful toward the Saints; they harvest only pain in this world. |

| ਖੋਟੇ ਖਰੇ ਪਰਖੀਅਨਿ ਤਿਤੁ ਸਚੈ ਦਰਵਾਰਾ ਰਾਮ ॥੩॥ |
| khottae kharae parakheean thith sachai dharavaaraa raam ||3|| |
| The counterfeit and the genuine are assayed in that True Court of the Lord. ||3|| |

| ਆਪਿ ਕਰੇ ਕਿਸੁ ਆਖੀਐ ਹੋਰੁ ਕਰਣਾ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਰਾਮ ॥ |
| aap karae kis aakheeai hor karanaa kishhoo n jaaee raam || |
| He Himself acts; who else should I ask? No one else can do anything. |

| ਜਿਤੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਤੁ ਲਾਇਸੀ ਜਿਉ ਤਿਸ ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਰਾਮ ॥ |
| jith bhaavai thith laaeisee jio this dhee vaddiaaee raam || |
| As He pleases, He engages us; such is His glorious greatness. |
|
| ਜਿਉ ਤਿਸ ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਆਪਿ ਕਰਾਈ ਵਰੀਆਮੁ ਨ ਫੁਸੀ ਕੋਈ ॥ |
| jio this dhee vaddiaaee aap karaaee vareeaam n fusee koee || |
| Such is His glorious greatness - He Himself causes all to act; no one is a warrior or a coward. |
|
| ਜਗਜੀਵਨੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਕਰਮਿ ਬਿਧਾਤਾ ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸੇ ਸੋਈ ॥ |
| jagajeevan dhaathaa karam bidhhaathaa aapae bakhasae soee || |
| The Life of the World, the Great Giver, the Architect of karma - He Himself grants forgiveness. |
|
| ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਈਐ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਪਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥ |
| gur parasaadhee aap gavaaeeai naanak naam path paaee || |
| By Guru's Grace, self-conceit is eradicated, O Nanak, and through the Naam, honor is obtained. |

| ਆਪਿ ਕਰੇ ਕਿਸੁ ਆਖੀਐ ਹੋਰੁ ਕਰਣਾ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥੪॥੪॥ |

| He Himself acts; who else should I ask? No one else can do anything. ||4||4|| |

| The True merchandise is the Lord's Name. This is the true trade. |

| ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਣਜੀਐ ਅਤਿ ਮੋਲੁ ਅਫਾਰਾ ਰਾਮ ॥ |
| guramathee har naam vanajeeai ath mol afaaraa raam || |
| Under Guru's Instruction, we trade in the Lord's Name; its value is very great. |

| ਅਤਿ ਮੋਲੁ ਅਫਾਰਾ ਸਚ ਵਾਪਾਰਾ ਸਚਿ ਵਾਪਾਰਿ ਲਗੇ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ॥ |
| ath mol afaaraa sach vaapaaraa sach vaapaar lagae vaddabhaagee || |
| The value of this true trade is very great; those who are engaged in the true trade are very fortunate. |

| ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਭਗਤੀ ਰਾਤੇ ਸਚਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੀ ॥ |
| anthar baahar bhagathee raathae sach naam liv laagee || |
| Inwardly and outwardly, they are imbued with devotion, and they enshrine love for the True Name. |

| ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਸੋਈ ਸਚੁ ਪਾਏ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥ |
| nadhar karae soee sach paaeae gur kai sabadh veechaaraa || |
| One who is blessed with the Lord's Favor, obtains Truth, and reflects upon the Word of the Guru's Shabad. |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਤਿਨ ਹੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਾਚੈ ਕੇ ਵਾਪਾਰਾ ॥੧॥ |
| naanak naam rathae thin hee sukh paaeiaa saachai kae vaapaaraa ||1|| |
| O Nanak, those who are imbued with the Name find peace; they deal only in the True Name. ||1|| |

| Egotistical involvement in Maya is filth; Maya is overflowing with filth. |
