| thoo karathaa sabh kishh jaanadhaa sabh jeea thumaarae || |
| You, O Creator, know all things; all beings belong to You. |

| ਜਿਸੁ ਤੂ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਤੂ ਮੇਲਿ ਲੈਹਿ ਕਿਆ ਜੰਤ ਵਿਚਾਰੇ ॥ |
| jis thoo bhaavai this thoo mael laihi kiaa janth vichaarae || |
| Those who are pleasing to You, You unite with Yourself; what can the poor creatures do? |

| ਤੂ ਕਰਣ ਕਾਰਣ ਸਮਰਥੁ ਹੈ ਸਚੁ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰੇ ॥ |
| thoo karan kaaran samarathh hai sach sirajanehaarae || |
| You are all-powerful, the Cause of causes, the True Creator Lord. |

| ਜਿਸੁ ਤੂ ਮੇਲਹਿ ਪਿਆਰਿਆ ਸੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੇ ॥ |
| jis thoo maelehi piaariaa so thudhh milai guramukh veechaarae || |
| Only those unite with you, Beloved Lord, whom you approve and who meditate on Guru's Word. |

| ਹਉ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਜਿਨਿ ਮੇਰਾ ਹਰਿ ਅਲਖੁ ਲਖਾਰੇ ॥੮॥ |
| ho balihaaree sathigur aapanae jin maeraa har alakh lakhaarae ||8|| |
| I am a sacrifice to my True Guru, who has allowed me to see my unseen Lord. ||8|| |

| ਰਤਨਾ ਪਾਰਖੁ ਜੋ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੁ ਰਤਨਾ ਕਰੇ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥ |
| rathanaa paarakh jo hovai s rathanaa karae veechaar || |
| He is the Assayer of jewels; He contemplates the jewel. |
|
| ਰਤਨਾ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਣਈ ਅਗਿਆਨੀ ਅੰਧੁ ਅੰਧਾਰੁ ॥ |
| rathanaa saar n jaanee agiaanee andhh andhhaar || |
| He is ignorant and totally blind - he does not appreciate the value of the jewel. |
|
| ਰਤਨੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਹੈ ਬੂਝੈ ਬੂਝਣਹਾਰੁ ॥ |
| rathan guroo kaa sabadh hai boojhai boojhanehaar || |
| The Jewel is the Word of the Guru's Shabad; the Knower alone knows it. |

| ਮੂਰਖ ਆਪੁ ਗਣਾਇਦੇ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮਹਿ ਹੋਇ ਖੁਆਰੁ ॥ |
| moorakh aap ganaaeidhae mar janmehi hoe khuaar || |
| The fools take pride in themselves, and are ruined in birth and death. |
|
| ਨਾਨਕ ਰਤਨਾ ਸੋ ਲਹੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਲਗੈ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥ |
| naanak rathanaa so lehai jis guramukh lagai piaar || |
| O Nanak, he alone obtains the jewel, who, as Gurmukh, enshrines love for it. |
|
| ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਉਚਰੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੋ ਨਿਤ ਬਿਉਹਾਰੁ ॥ |
| sadhaa sadhaa naam oucharai har naamo nith biouhaar || |
| Chanting the Naam, the Name of the Lord, forever and ever, make the Name of the Lord your daily occupation. |

| ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਜੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਰਖਾ ਉਰ ਧਾਰਿ ॥੧॥ |
| kirapaa karae jae aapanee thaa har rakhaa our dhhaar ||1|| |
| If the Lord shows His Mercy, then I keep Him enshrined within my heart. ||1|| |

| ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵ ਨ ਕੀਨੀਆ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਨ ਲਗੋ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥ |
| sathigur kee saev n keeneeaa har naam n lago piaar || |
| They do not serve the True Guru, and they do not embrace love for the Lord's Name. |

| ਮਤ ਤੁਮ ਜਾਣਹੁ ਓਇ ਜੀਵਦੇ ਓਇ ਆਪਿ ਮਾਰੇ ਕਰਤਾਰਿ ॥ |
| math thum jaanahu oue jeevadhae oue aap maarae karathaar || |
| Do not even think that they are alive - the Creator Lord Himself has killed them. |
|
| ਹਉਮੈ ਵਡਾ ਰੋਗੁ ਹੈ ਭਾਇ ਦੂਜੈ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਇ ॥ |
| houmai vaddaa rog hai bhaae dhoojai karam kamaae || |
| Egotism is such a terrible disease; in the love of duality, they do their deeds. |
|
| ਨਾਨਕ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਜੀਵਦਿਆ ਮੁਏ ਹਰਿ ਵਿਸਰਿਆ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇ ॥੨॥ |
| naanak manamukh jeevadhiaa mueae har visariaa dhukh paae ||2|| |
| O Nanak, the self-willed manmukhs are in a living death; forgetting the Lord, they suffer in pain. ||2|| |

| jis anthar hiradhaa sudhh hai this jan ko sabh namasakaaree || |
| Let all bow in reverence, to that humble being whose heart is pure within. |
|
| ਜਿਸੁ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਹੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਜਨ ਕਉ ਹਉ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ॥ |
| jis andhar naam nidhhaan hai this jan ko ho balihaaree || |
| I am a sacrifice to that humble being whose mind is filled with the treasure of the Naam. |
|
| ਜਿਸੁ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਬੁਧਿ ਬਿਬੇਕੁ ਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੁਰਾਰੀ ॥ |
| jis andhar budhh bibaek hai har naam muraaree || |
| He has a discriminating intellect; he meditates on the Name of the Lord. |
|
| ਸੋ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸਭਨਾ ਕਾ ਮਿਤੁ ਹੈ ਸਭ ਤਿਸਹਿ ਪਿਆਰੀ ॥ |
| so sathigur sabhanaa kaa mith hai sabh thisehi piaaree || |
| That True Guru is a friend to all; everyone is dear to Him. |
|
| ਸਭੁ ਆਤਮ ਰਾਮੁ ਪਸਾਰਿਆ ਗੁਰ ਬੁਧਿ ਬੀਚਾਰੀ ॥੯॥ |
| sabh aatham raam pasaariaa gur budhh beechaaree ||9|| |
| The Lord, the Supreme Soul, is pervading everywhere; reflect upon the wisdom of the Guru's Teachings. ||9|| |

| bin sathigur saevae jeea kae bandhhanaa vich houmai karam kamaahi || |
| Without serving the True Guru, the soul is in the bondage of deeds done in ego. |

| ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਠਉਰ ਨ ਪਾਵਹੀ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮਹਿ ਆਵਹਿ ਜਾਹਿ ॥ |
| bin sathigur saevae thour n paavehee mar janmehi aavehi jaahi || |
| Without serving the True Guru, one finds no place of rest; he dies, and is reincarnated, and continues coming and going. |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਜਮ ਪੁਰਿ ਬਧੇ ਮਾਰੀਅਨਿ ਮੁਹਿ ਕਾਲੈ ਉਠਿ ਜਾਹਿ ॥੧॥ |
| naanak bin sathigur saevae jam pur badhhae maareean muhi kaalai outh jaahi ||1|| |
| O Nanak, without serving the True Guru, they are bound and beaten in the City of Death; they arise and depart with blackened faces. ||1|| |

| ਜਾਲਉ ਐਸੀ ਰੀਤਿ ਜਿਤੁ ਮੈ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਵੀਸਰੈ ॥ |
| jaalo aisee reeth jith mai piaaraa veesarai || |
| Burn away those rituals which lead you to forget the Beloved Lord. |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਈ ਭਲੀ ਪਰੀਤਿ ਜਿਤੁ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਸੇਤੀ ਪਤਿ ਰਹੈ ॥੨॥ |
| naanak saaee bhalee pareeth jith saahib saethee path rehai ||2|| |
| O Nanak, sublime is that love, which preserves my honor with my Lord Master. ||2|| |

| Serve the One Lord, the Great Giver; meditate on the One Lord. |

| ਹਰਿ ਇਕੋ ਦਾਤਾ ਮੰਗੀਐ ਮਨ ਚਿੰਦਿਆ ਪਾਈਐ ॥ |
| har eiko dhaathaa mangeeai man chindhiaa paaeeai || |
| Beg from the One Lord, the Great Giver, and you shall obtain your heart's desires. |
|
| ਜੇ ਦੂਜੇ ਪਾਸਹੁ ਮੰਗੀਐ ਤਾ ਲਾਜ ਮਰਾਈਐ ॥ |
| jae dhoojae paasahu mangeeai thaa laaj maraaeeai || |
| But if you beg from another, then you shall be shamed and destroyed. |
|
| ਜਿਨਿ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਤਿਨਿ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਤਿਸੁ ਜਨ ਕੀ ਸਭ ਭੁਖ ਗਵਾਈਐ ॥ |
| jin saeviaa thin fal paaeiaa this jan kee sabh bhukh gavaaeeai || |
| One who serves the Lord obtains the fruits of his rewards; all of his hunger is satisfied. |
|
| ਨਾਨਕੁ ਤਿਨ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਵਾਰਿਆ ਜਿਨ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ॥੧੦॥ |
| naanak thin vittahu vaariaa jin anadhin hiradhai har naam dhhiaaeeai ||10|| |
| Nanak is a sacrifice to those, who night and day, meditate within their hearts on the Name of the Lord. ||10|| |

| bhagath janaa kano aap thuthaa maeraa piaaraa aapae laeian jan laae || |
| He Himself is pleased with His humble devotees; my Beloved Lord attaches them to Himself. |

| ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹੀ ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾ ਕਉ ਦਿਤੀਅਨੁ ਸਿਰਿ ਛਤੁ ਸਚਾ ਹਰਿ ਬਣਾਇ ॥ |
| paathisaahee bhagath janaa ko dhitheean sir shhath sachaa har banaae || |
| The Lord blesses His humble devotees with royalty; He fashions the true crown upon their heads. |
|
| ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੀਏ ਨਿਰਮਲੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਇ ॥ |
| sadhaa sukheeeae niramalae sathigur kee kaar kamaae || |
| They are always at peace, and immaculately pure; they perform service for the True Guru. |
|
| ਰਾਜੇ ਓਇ ਨ ਆਖੀਅਹਿ ਭਿੜਿ ਮਰਹਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਜੂਨੀ ਪਾਹਿ ॥ |
| raajae oue n aakheeahi bhirr marehi fir joonee paahi || |
| They are not said to be kings, who die in conflict, and then enter again the cycle of reincarnation. |
|
| ਨਾਨਕ ਵਿਣੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਨਕਂੀ ਵਢਂੀ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਸੋਭਾ ਮੂਲਿ ਨ ਪਾਹਿ ॥੧॥ |
| naanak vin naavai nakanaee vadtanaee firehi sobhaa mool n paahi ||1|| |
| O Nanak, without the Name of the Lord, they wander about with their noses cut off in disgrace; they get no respect at all. ||1|| |

| sun sikhiai saadh n aaeiou jichar guramukh sabadh n laagai || |
| Hearing the teachings, he does not appreciate them, as long as he is not Gurmukh, attached to the Word of the Shabad. |

| ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਸੇਵਿਐ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਭਉ ਭਾਗੈ ॥ |
| sathigur saeviai naam man vasai vichahu bhram bho bhaagai || |
| Serving the True Guru, the Naam comes to abide in the mind, and doubts and fears run away. |
|
| ਜੇਹਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਨੋ ਜਾਣੈ ਤੇਹੋ ਹੋਵੈ ਤਾ ਸਚਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੈ ॥ |
| jaehaa sathigur no jaanai thaeho hovai thaa sach naam liv laagai || |
| As he knows the True Guru, so he is transformed, and then, he lovingly focuses his consciousness on the Naam. |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਿ ਸੋਹਨਿ ਆਗੈ ॥੨॥ |
| naanak naam milai vaddiaaee har dhar sohan aagai ||2|| |
| O Nanak, through the Naam, the Name of the Lord, greatness is obtained; he shall be resplendent in the Court of the Lord hereafter. ||2|| |
