| ਮਾਇਆ ਮਗਨੁ ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਮਗੁ ਜੋਹੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਲੇਵੈ ਮਰੈ ਬਿਖੁ ਖਾਈ ॥ |
| maaeiaa magan ahinis mag johai naam n laevai marai bikh khaaee || |
| Infatuated with Maya, night and day, he sees only the worldly path; he does not chant the Naam, and drinking poison, he dies. |

| ਗੰਧਣ ਵੈਣਿ ਰਤਾ ਹਿਤਕਾਰੀ ਸਬਦੈ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਨ ਆਈ ॥ |
| gandhhan vain rathaa hithakaaree sabadhai surath n aaee || |
| He is imbued and infatuated with vicious talk; the Word of the Shabad does not come into his consciousness. |

| ਰੰਗਿ ਨ ਰਾਤਾ ਰਸਿ ਨਹੀ ਬੇਧਿਆ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਪਤਿ ਗਵਾਈ ॥੨॥ |
| rang n raathaa ras nehee baedhhiaa manamukh path gavaaee ||2|| |
| He is not imbued with the Lord's Love, and he is not impressed by the taste of the Name; the self-willed manmukh loses his honor. ||2|| |

| ਸਾਧ ਸਭਾ ਮਹਿ ਸਹਜੁ ਨ ਚਾਖਿਆ ਜਿਹਬਾ ਰਸੁ ਨਹੀ ਰਾਈ ॥ |
| saadhh sabhaa mehi sehaj n chaakhiaa jihabaa ras nehee raaee || |
| He does not enjoy celestial peace in the Company of the Holy, and there is not even a bit of sweetness on his tongue. |

| ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਨਿਆ ਦਰ ਕੀ ਖਬਰਿ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥ |
| man than dhhan apunaa kar jaaniaa dhar kee khabar n paaee || |
| He calls his mind, body and wealth his own; he has no knowledge of the Court of the Lord. |

| ਅਖੀ ਮੀਟਿ ਚਲਿਆ ਅੰਧਿਆਰਾ ਘਰੁ ਦਰੁ ਦਿਸੈ ਨ ਭਾਈ ॥ |
| akhee meett chaliaa andhhiaaraa ghar dhar dhisai n bhaaee || |
| Closing his eyes, he walks in darkness; he cannot see the home of his own being, O Siblings of Destiny. |

| ਜਮ ਦਰਿ ਬਾਧਾ ਠਉਰ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਕੀਆ ਕਮਾਈ ॥੩॥ |
| jam dhar baadhhaa thour n paavai apunaa keeaa kamaaee ||3|| |
| Tied up at Death's door, he finds no place of rest; he receives the rewards of his own actions. ||3|| |

| ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਤਾ ਅਖੀ ਵੇਖਾ ਕਹਣਾ ਕਥਨੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥ |
| nadhar karae thaa akhee vaekhaa kehanaa kathhan n jaaee || |
| When the Lord casts His Glance of Grace, then I see Him with my own eyes; He is indescribable, and cannot be described. |

| ਕੰਨੀ ਸੁਣਿ ਸੁਣਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਲਾਹੀ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਵਸਾਈ ॥ |
| kannee sun sun sabadh salaahee anmrith ridhai vasaaee || |
| With my ears, I continually listen to the Word of the Shabad, and I praise Him; His Ambrosial Name abides within my heart. |

| ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੁ ਨਿਰਵੈਰੁ ਪੂਰਨ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਮਾਈ ॥ |
| nirabho nirankaar niravair pooran joth samaaee || |
| He is Fearless, Formless and absolutely without vengeance; I am absorbed in His Perfect Light. |

| Wherever I look, there I see Your Light, but what is Your form? |

| You have one form, but it is unseen; there is none like any other. ||2|| |

| The beings born of eggs, born of the womb, born of the earth and born of sweat, all are created by You. |

| I have seen one glory of Yours, that You are pervading and permeating in all. ||3|| |

| You are True, and I am absorbed into You; through the mystery of the Shabad, I shall ultimately become True as well. |

| Those who are imbued with the Naam day and night are pure, while those who die to be reborn are impure. ||3|| |

| ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਦੀਸੈ ਕਿਸੁ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ਤਿਸਹਿ ਸਰੀਕੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥ |
| avar n dheesai kis saalaahee thisehi sareek n koee || |
| I do not see any other like the Lord; who else should I praise? No one is equal to Him. |

| He has no mother, father, sons or relatives; He is free of sexual desire; He has no wife. |

| He has no ancestry; He is immaculate. He is infinite and endless; O Lord, Your Light is pervading all. ||2|| |

| Deep within each and every heart, God is hidden; His Light is in each and every heart. |

| bajar kapaatt mukathae guramathee nirabhai thaarree laaee ||3|| |
| The heavy doors are opened by Guru's Instructions; one becomes fearless, in the trance of deep meditation. ||3|| |

| ਜੰਤ ਉਪਾਇ ਕਾਲੁ ਸਿਰਿ ਜੰਤਾ ਵਸਗਤਿ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਸਬਾਈ ॥ |
| janth oupaae kaal sir janthaa vasagath jugath sabaaee || |
| The Lord created all beings, and placed death over the heads of all; all the world is under His Power. |

| ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਛੂਟਹਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਕਮਾਈ ॥੪॥ |
| sathigur saev padhaarathh paavehi shhoottehi sabadh kamaaee ||4|| |
| Serving the True Guru, the treasure is obtained; living the Word of the Shabad, one is emancipated. ||4|| |

| ਸੂਚੈ ਭਾਡੈ ਸਾਚੁ ਸਮਾਵੈ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਸੂਚਾਚਾਰੀ ॥ |

| In the pure vessel, the True Name is contained; how few are those who practice true conduct. |

| The individual soul is united with the Supreme Soul; Nanak seeks Your Sanctuary, Lord. ||5||6|| |

| Like a fish without water is the faithless cynic, who dies of thirst. |

| ਤਿਉ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਮਰੀਐ ਰੇ ਮਨਾ ਜੋ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਾਵੈ ਸਾਸੁ ॥੧॥ |
| thio har bin mareeai rae manaa jo birathhaa jaavai saas ||1|| |
| So shall you die, O mind, without the Lord, as your breath goes in vain. ||1|| |

| ਮਨ ਰੇ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਜਸੁ ਲੇਇ ॥ |
| man rae raam naam jas laee || |
| O mind, chant the Lord's Name, and praise Him. |
|
| ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਇਹੁ ਰਸੁ ਕਿਉ ਲਹਉ ਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਲੈ ਹਰਿ ਦੇਇ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| bin gur eihu ras kio leho gur maelai har dhaee || rehaao || |
| Without the Guru, how will you obtain this juice? The Guru shall unite you with the Lord. ||Pause|| |
