| ਘਰ ਹੀ ਸੋ ਪਿਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਹੇਤਿ ਅਪਾਰੁ ॥੫॥ |
| ghar hee so pir paaeiaa gur kai haeth apaar ||5|| |
| Within her own home, she finds her Husband, through infinite love for the Guru. ||5|| |

| ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਚਾਕਰੀ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥ |
| gur kee saevaa chaakaree man niramal sukh hoe || |
| Applying oneself to the service of the Guru, the mind is purified, and peace is obtained. |

| ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਖੋਇ ॥ |
| gur kaa sabadh man vasiaa houmai vichahu khoe || |
| The Word of the Guru's Shabad abides within the mind, and egotism is eliminated from within. |

| ਨਾਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਲਾਭੁ ਸਦਾ ਮਨਿ ਹੋਇ ॥੬॥ |
| naam padhaarathh paaeiaa laabh sadhaa man hoe ||6|| |
| The Treasure of the Naam is acquired, and the mind reaps the lasting profit. ||6|| |
|
| ਕਰਮਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਤਾ ਪਾਈਐ ਆਪਿ ਨ ਲਇਆ ਜਾਇ ॥ |
| karam milai thaa paaeeai aap n laeiaa jaae || |
| If He grants His Grace, then we obtain it. We cannot find it by our own efforts. |

| ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਚਰਣੀ ਲਗਿ ਰਹੁ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇ ॥ |
| gur kee charanee lag rahu vichahu aap gavaae || |
| Remain attached to the Feet of the Guru, and eradicate selfishness from within. |

| ਸਚੇ ਸੇਤੀ ਰਤਿਆ ਸਚੋ ਪਲੈ ਪਾਇ ॥੭॥ |
| sachae saethee rathiaa sacho palai paae ||7|| |
| Attuned to Truth, you shall obtain the True One. ||7|| |

| ਭੁਲਣ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਅਭੁਲੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਕਰਤਾਰੁ ॥ |
| bhulan andhar sabh ko abhul guroo karathaar || |
| Everyone makes mistakes; only the Guru and the Creator are infallible. |

| ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਮਨੁ ਸਮਝਾਇਆ ਲਾਗਾ ਤਿਸੈ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥ |
| guramath man samajhaaeiaa laagaa thisai piaar || |
| One who instructs his mind with the Guru's Teachings comes to embrace love for the Lord. |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਚੁ ਨ ਵੀਸਰੈ ਮੇਲੇ ਸਬਦੁ ਅਪਾਰੁ ॥੮॥੧੨॥ |

| The enticing desire for Maya leads people to become emotionally attached to their children, relatives, households and spouses. |

| ਧਨਿ ਜੋਬਨਿ ਜਗੁ ਠਗਿਆ ਲਬਿ ਲੋਭਿ ਅਹੰਕਾਰਿ ॥ |
| dhhan joban jag thagiaa lab lobh ahankaar || |
| The world is deceived and plundered by riches, youth, greed and egotism. |
|
| ਮੋਹ ਠਗਉਲੀ ਹਉ ਮੁਈ ਸਾ ਵਰਤੈ ਸੰਸਾਰਿ ॥੧॥ |
| moh thagoulee ho muee saa varathai sansaar ||1|| |
| The drug of emotional attachment has destroyed me, as it has destroyed the whole world. ||1|| |

| ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮਾ ਮੈ ਤੁਝ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥ |

| O my Beloved, I have no one except You. |

| ਮੈ ਤੁਝ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਭਾਵਈ ਤੂੰ ਭਾਵਹਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| mai thujh bin avar n bhaavee thoon bhaavehi sukh hoe ||1|| rehaao || |
| Without You, nothing else pleases me. Loving You, I am at peace. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਨਾਮੁ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ਰੰਗ ਸਿਉ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ॥ |
| naam saalaahee rang sio gur kai sabadh santhokh || |
| I sing the Praises of the Naam, the Name of the Lord, with love; I am content with the Word of the Guru's Shabad. |

| ਜੋ ਦੀਸੈ ਸੋ ਚਲਸੀ ਕੂੜਾ ਮੋਹੁ ਨ ਵੇਖੁ ॥ |
| jo dheesai so chalasee koorraa mohu n vaekh || |
| Whatever is seen shall pass away. So do not be attached to this false show. |

| ਵਾਟ ਵਟਾਊ ਆਇਆ ਨਿਤ ਚਲਦਾ ਸਾਥੁ ਦੇਖੁ ॥੨॥ |
| vaatt vattaaoo aaeiaa nith chaladhaa saathh dhaekh ||2|| |
| Like a traveller in his travels, you have come. Behold the caravan leaving each day. ||2|| |
|
| ਆਖਣਿ ਆਖਹਿ ਕੇਤੜੇ ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਬੂਝ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥ |
| aakhan aakhehi kaetharrae gur bin boojh n hoe || |
| Many preach sermons, but without the Guru, understanding is not obtained. |

| ਨਾਮੁ ਵਡਾਈ ਜੇ ਮਿਲੈ ਸਚਿ ਰਪੈ ਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥ |
| naam vaddaaee jae milai sach rapai path hoe || |
| If someone receives the Glory of the Naam, he is attuned to truth and blessed with honor. |

| ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵਹਿ ਸੇ ਭਲੇ ਖੋਟਾ ਖਰਾ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥੩॥ |
| jo thudhh bhaavehi sae bhalae khottaa kharaa n koe ||3|| |
| Those who are pleasing to You are good; no one is counterfeit or genuine. ||3|| |
|
| ਗੁਰ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਛੁਟੀਐ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਖੋਟੀ ਰਾਸਿ ॥ |
| gur saranaaee shhutteeai manamukh khottee raas || |
| In the Guru's Sanctuary we are saved. The assets of the self-willed manmukhs are false. |

| ਅਸਟ ਧਾਤੁ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹ ਕੀ ਘੜੀਐ ਸਬਦਿ ਵਿਗਾਸਿ ॥ |
| asatt dhhaath paathisaah kee gharreeai sabadh vigaas || |
| The eight metals of the King are made into coins by the Word of His Shabad. |
|
| ਆਪੇ ਪਰਖੇ ਪਾਰਖੂ ਪਵੈ ਖਜਾਨੈ ਰਾਸਿ ॥੪॥ |
| aapae parakhae paarakhoo pavai khajaanai raas ||4|| |
| The Assayer Himself assays them, and He places the genuine ones in His Treasury. ||4|| |
|
| ਤੇਰੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਨਾ ਪਵੈ ਸਭ ਡਿਠੀ ਠੋਕਿ ਵਜਾਇ ॥ |
| thaeree keemath naa pavai sabh ddithee thok vajaae || |
| Your Value cannot be appraised; I have seen and tested everything. |
|
| ਕਹਣੈ ਹਾਥ ਨ ਲਭਈ ਸਚਿ ਟਿਕੈ ਪਤਿ ਪਾਇ ॥ |
| kehanai haathh n labhee sach ttikai path paae || |
| By speaking, His Depth cannot be found. Abiding in truth, honor is obtained. |

| ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਤੂੰ ਸਾਲਾਹਣਾ ਹੋਰੁ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥੫॥ |
| guramath thoon saalaahanaa hor keemath kehan n jaae ||5|| |
| Through the Guru's Teachings, I praise You; otherwise, I cannot describe Your Value. ||5|| |

| ਜਿਤੁ ਤਨਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਭਾਵਈ ਤਿਤੁ ਤਨਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਾਦੁ ॥ |
| jith than naam n bhaavee thith than houmai vaadh || |
| That body which does not appreciate the Naam-that body is infested with egotism and conflict. |

| ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਦੂਜਾ ਸਾਦੁ ॥ |
| gur bin giaan n paaeeai bikhiaa dhoojaa saadh || |
| Without the Guru, spiritual wisdom is not obtained; other tastes are poison. |

| ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਣ ਕਾਮਿ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਮਾਇਆ ਫੀਕਾ ਸਾਦੁ ॥੬॥ |
| bin gun kaam n aavee maaeiaa feekaa saadh ||6|| |
| Without virtue, nothing is of any use. The taste of Maya is bland and insipid. ||6|| |
|
| ਆਸਾ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਜੰਮਿਆ ਆਸਾ ਰਸ ਕਸ ਖਾਇ ॥ |
| aasaa andhar janmiaa aasaa ras kas khaae || |
| Through desire, people are cast into the womb and reborn. Through desire, they taste the sweet and sour flavors. |
|
| ਆਸਾ ਬੰਧਿ ਚਲਾਈਐ ਮੁਹੇ ਮੁਹਿ ਚੋਟਾ ਖਾਇ ॥ |
| aasaa bandhh chalaaeeai muhae muhi chottaa khaae || |
| Bound by desire, they are led on, beaten and struck on their faces and mouths. |
|
| ਸਰਬੇ ਥਾਈ ਏਕੁ ਤੂੰ ਜਿਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਉ ਰਾਖੁ ॥ |
| sarabae thhaaee eaek thoon jio bhaavai thio raakh || |
| In all places, You are the One and Only. As it pleases You, Lord, please save and protect me! |

| ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਭਲੋ ਪਤਿ ਸਾਖੁ ॥ |
| guramath saachaa man vasai naam bhalo path saakh || |
| Through the Guru's Teachings, the True One abides within the mind. The Companionship of the Naam brings the most excellent honor. |

| ਹਉਮੈ ਰੋਗੁ ਗਵਾਈਐ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਚੈ ਸਚੁ ਭਾਖੁ ॥੮॥ |
| houmai rog gavaaeeai sabadh sachai sach bhaakh ||8|| |
| Eradicate the disease of egotism, and chant the True Shabad, the Word of the True Lord. ||8|| |

| ਆਕਾਸੀ ਪਾਤਾਲਿ ਤੂੰ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਇ ॥ |
| aakaasee paathaal thoon thribhavan rehiaa samaae || |
| You are pervading throughout the Akaashic Ethers, the nether regions and the three worlds. |
|
| ਆਪੇ ਭਗਤੀ ਭਾਉ ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਮਿਲਹਿ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥ |
| aapae bhagathee bhaao thoon aapae milehi milaae || |
| You Yourself are bhakti, loving devotional worship. You Yourself unite us in Union with Yourself. |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਵੀਸਰੈ ਜਿਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਵੈ ਰਜਾਇ ॥੯॥੧੩॥ |
| naanak naam n veesarai jio bhaavai thivai rajaae ||9||13|| |
| O Nanak, may I never forget the Naam! As is Your Pleasure, so is Your Will. ||9||13|| |

| Focusing your awareness on the Shabad, happiness wells up. Attuned to God, the most excellent peace is found. |

| ਜਿਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਉ ਰਾਖੁ ਤੂੰ ਮੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਧਾਰੁ ॥੧॥ |
| jio bhaavai thio raakh thoon mai har naam adhhaar ||1|| |
| As it pleases You, please save me, Lord. The Name of the Lord is my Support. ||1|| |

| ਮਨ ਰੇ ਸਾਚੀ ਖਸਮ ਰਜਾਇ ॥ |

| O mind, the Will of our Lord and Master is true. |

| Focus your love upon the One who created and adorned your body and mind. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਤਨੁ ਬੈਸੰਤਰਿ ਹੋਮੀਐ ਇਕ ਰਤੀ ਤੋਲਿ ਕਟਾਇ ॥ |
| than baisanthar homeeai eik rathee thol kattaae || |
| If I cut my body into pieces, and burn them in the fire, |

| ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਸਮਧਾ ਜੇ ਕਰੀ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਅਗਨਿ ਜਲਾਇ ॥ |
| than man samadhhaa jae karee anadhin agan jalaae || |
| and if I make my body and mind into firewood, and night and day burn them in the fire, |

| ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੈ ਤੁਲਿ ਨ ਪੁਜਈ ਜੇ ਲਖ ਕੋਟੀ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਇ ॥੨॥ |
| har naamai thul n pujee jae lakh kottee karam kamaae ||2|| |
| and if I perform hundreds of thousands and millions of religious rituals-still, all these are not equal to the Name of the Lord. ||2|| |

| ਅਰਧ ਸਰੀਰੁ ਕਟਾਈਐ ਸਿਰਿ ਕਰਵਤੁ ਧਰਾਇ ॥ |
| aradhh sareer kattaaeeai sir karavath dhharaae || |
| If my body were cut in half, if a saw was put to my head, |
|
| ਤਨੁ ਹੈਮੰਚਲਿ ਗਾਲੀਐ ਭੀ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਰੋਗੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥ |
| than haimanchal gaaleeai bhee man thae rog n jaae || |
| and if my body were frozen in the Himalayas-even then, my mind would not be free of disease. |
