| ਜਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵਾ ਤਦ ਹੀ ਗਾਵਾ ॥ |
| jaa this bhaavaa thadh hee gaavaa || |
| When I am pleasing to Him, then I sing His Praises. |
|
| ਤਾ ਗਾਵੇ ਕਾ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਵਾ ॥ |
| thaa gaavae kaa fal paavaa || |
| Singing His Praises, I receive the fruits of my rewards. |
|
| ਗਾਵੇ ਕਾ ਫਲੁ ਹੋਈ ॥ਜਾ ਆਪੇ ਦੇਵੈ ਸੋਈ ॥੧॥ |
| gaavae kaa fal hoee || jaa aapae dhaevai soee ||1|| |
| The rewards of singing His Praises are obtained when He Himself gives them. ||1|| |

| ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਬਚਨੀ ਨਿਧਿ ਪਾਈ ॥ |
| man maerae gur bachanee nidhh paaee || |
| O my mind, through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, the treasure is obtained; |

| ਤਾ ਤੇ ਸਚ ਮਹਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਈ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| thaa thae sach mehi rehiaa samaaee || rehaao || |
| this is why I remain immersed in the True Name. ||Pause|| |

| ਗੁਰ ਸਾਖੀ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਜਾਗੀ ॥ |
| gur saakhee anthar jaagee || |
| When I awoke within myself to the Guru's Teachings, |
|
| ਤਾ ਚੰਚਲ ਮਤਿ ਤਿਆਗੀ ॥ |
| thaa chanchal math thiaagee || |
| then I renounced my fickle intellect. |
|
| ਗੁਰ ਸਾਖੀ ਕਾ ਉਜੀਆਰਾ ॥ |
| gur saakhee kaa oujeeaaraa || |
| When the Light of the Guru's Teachings dawned, |
|
| ਤਾ ਮਿਟਿਆ ਸਗਲ ਅੰਧ੍ਯ੍ਯਾਰਾ ॥੨॥ |
| thaa mittiaa sagal andhhyaaraa ||2|| |
| and then all darkness was dispelled. ||2|| |
|
| ਗੁਰ ਚਰਨੀ ਮਨੁ ਲਾਗਾ ॥ |
| gur charanee man laagaa || |
| When the mind is attached to the Guru's Feet, |
|
| ਤਾ ਜਮ ਕਾ ਮਾਰਗੁ ਭਾਗਾ ॥ |
| thaa jam kaa maarag bhaagaa || |
| then the Path of Death recedes. |
|
| ਭੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ |
| bhai vich nirabho paaeiaa || |
| Through the Fear of God, one attains the Fearless Lord; |
|
| ਤਾ ਸਹਜੈ ਕੈ ਘਰਿ ਆਇਆ ॥੩॥ |
| thaa sehajai kai ghar aaeiaa ||3|| |
| then, one enters the home of celestial bliss. ||3|| |
|
| ਭਣਤਿ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਬੂਝੈ ਕੋ ਬੀਚਾਰੀ ॥ |
| bhanath naanak boojhai ko beechaaree || |
| Prays Nanak, how rare are those who reflect and understand, |
|
| ਇਸੁ ਜਗ ਮਹਿ ਕਰਣੀ ਸਾਰੀ ॥ |
| eis jag mehi karanee saaree || |
| the most sublime action in this world. |
|
| ਕਰਣੀ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਹੋਈ ॥ |

| The noblest deed is to sing the Lord's Praises, |
|
| ਜਾ ਆਪੇ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਸੋਈ ॥੪॥੧॥੧੨॥ |

| All of Your servants, who relish the Word of Your Shabad, serve You. |

| ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਆ ਜਿਨਿ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥ |
| gur kirapaa thae niramal hoaa jin vichahu aap gavaaeiaa || |
| By Guru's Grace, they become pure, eradicating self-conceit from within. |

| ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਨਿਤ ਸਾਚੇ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਹਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ |
| anadhin gun gaavehi nith saachae gur kai sabadh suhaaeiaa ||1|| |
| Night and day, they continually sing the Glorious Praises of the True Lord; they are adorned with the Word of the Guru's Shabad. ||1|| |

| ਮੇਰੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਹਮ ਬਾਰਿਕ ਸਰਣਿ ਤੁਮਾਰੀ ॥ |
| maerae thaakur ham baarik saran thumaaree || |
| O my Lord and Master, I am Your child; I seek Your Sanctuary. |

| ਏਕੋ ਸਚਾ ਸਚੁ ਤੂ ਕੇਵਲੁ ਆਪਿ ਮੁਰਾਰੀ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| eaeko sachaa sach thoo kaeval aap muraaree || rehaao || |
| You are the One and Only Lord, the Truest of the True; You Yourself are the Destroyer of ego. ||Pause|| |

| ਜਾਗਤ ਰਹੇ ਤਿਨੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਬਦੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰੀ ॥ |
| jaagath rehae thinee prabh paaeiaa sabadhae houmai maaree || |
| Those who remain wakeful obtain God; through the Word of the Shabad, they conquer their ego. |

| ਗਿਰਹੀ ਮਹਿ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਉਦਾਸੀ ਗਿਆਨ ਤਤ ਬੀਚਾਰੀ ॥ |
| girehee mehi sadhaa har jan oudhaasee giaan thath beechaaree || |
| Immersed in family life, the Lord's humble servant ever remains detached; he reflects upon the essence of spiritual wisdom. |

| ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਖਿਆ ਉਰ ਧਾਰੀ ॥੨॥ |
| sathigur saev sadhaa sukh paaeiaa har raakhiaa our dhhaaree ||2|| |
| Serving the True Guru, he finds eternal peace, and he keeps the Lord enshrined in his heart. ||2|| |
|
| ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮੁਗਧੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਚੇਤੈ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥ |
| manamukh mugadhh har naam n chaethai birathhaa janam gavaaeiaa || |
| The foolish self-willed manmukh does not remember the Lord's Name; he wastes away his life in vain. |
|
| ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟੇ ਤਾ ਨਾਉ ਪਾਏ ਹਉਮੈ ਮੋਹੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ॥੩॥ |
| sathigur bhaettae thaa naao paaeae houmai mohu chukaaeiaa ||3|| |
| But when he meets the True Guru, then he obtains the Name; he sheds egotism and emotional attachment. ||3|| |
|
| ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਸਾਚੇ ਸਾਚੁ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ॥ |
| har jan saachae saach kamaavehi gur kai sabadh veechaaree || |
| The Lord's humble servants are True - they practice Truth, and reflect upon the Word of the Guru's Shabad. |

| ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਲਏ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਸਾਚੁ ਰਖਿਆ ਉਰ ਧਾਰੀ ॥ |
| aapae mael leae prabh saachai saach rakhiaa our dhhaaree || |
| The True Lord God unites them with Himself, and they keep the True Lord enshrined in their hearts. |
|
| ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਵਹੁ ਗਤਿ ਮਤਿ ਪਾਈ ਏਹਾ ਰਾਸਿ ਹਮਾਰੀ ॥੪॥੧॥ |
| naanak naavahu gath math paaee eaehaa raas hamaaree ||4||1|| |
| O Nanak, through the Name, I have obtained salvation and understanding; this alone is my wealth. ||4||1|| |

| bhagath khajaanaa bhagathan ko dheeaa naao har dhhan sach soe || |
| The True Lord has blessed His devotees with the treasure of devotional worship, and the wealth of the Lord's Name. |

| ਅਖੁਟੁ ਨਾਮ ਧਨੁ ਕਦੇ ਨਿਖੁਟੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥ |
| akhutt naam dhhan kadhae nikhuttai naahee kinai n keemath hoe || |
| The wealth of the Naam, shall never be exhausted; no one can estimate its worth. |
|
| ਨਾਮ ਧਨਿ ਮੁਖ ਉਜਲੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਚੁ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥ |
| naam dhhan mukh oujalae hoeae har paaeiaa sach soe ||1|| |
| With the wealth of the Naam, their faces are radiant, and they attain the True Lord. ||1|| |
|
| ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਇ ॥ |
| man maerae gur sabadhee har paaeiaa jaae || |
| O my mind, through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, the Lord is found. |
|
| ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਜਗੁ ਭੁਲਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਦਰਗਹ ਮਿਲੈ ਸਜਾਇ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| bin sabadhai jag bhuladhaa firadhaa dharageh milai sajaae || rehaao || |
| Without the Shabad, the world wanders around, and receives its punishment in the Court of the Lord. ||Pause|| |
|
| ਇਸੁ ਦੇਹੀ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪੰਚ ਚੋਰ ਵਸਹਿ ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਲੋਭੁ ਮੋਹੁ ਅਹੰਕਾਰਾ ॥ |
| eis dhaehee andhar panch chor vasehi kaam krodhh lobh mohu ahankaaraa || |
| Within this body dwell the five thieves: sexual desire, anger, greed, emotional attachment and egotism. |
|
| ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਲੂਟਹਿ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਨਹੀ ਬੂਝਹਿ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਸੁਣੈ ਪੂਕਾਰਾ ॥ |
| anmrith loottehi manamukh nehee boojhehi koe n sunai pookaaraa || |
| They plunder the Nectar, but the self-willed manmukh does not realize it; no one hears his complaint. |
|
| ਅੰਧਾ ਜਗਤੁ ਅੰਧੁ ਵਰਤਾਰਾ ਬਾਝੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਗੁਬਾਰਾ ॥੨॥ |
| andhhaa jagath andhh varathaaraa baajh guroo gubaaraa ||2|| |
| The world is blind, and its dealings are blind as well; without the Guru, there is only pitch darkness. ||2|| |
|
| ਹਉਮੈ ਮੇਰਾ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਵਿਗੁਤੇ ਕਿਹੁ ਚਲੈ ਨ ਚਲਦਿਆ ਨਾਲਿ ॥ |
| houmai maeraa kar kar viguthae kihu chalai n chaladhiaa naal || |
| Indulging in egotism and possessiveness, they are ruined; when they depart, nothing goes along with them. |
|
| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਵੈ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ॥ |
| guramukh hovai s naam dhhiaavai sadhaa har naam samaal || |
| But one who becomes Gurmukh meditates on the Naam, and ever contemplates the Lord's Name. |
|
| ਸਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਨਦਰੀ ਨਦਰਿ ਨਿਹਾਲਿ ॥੩॥ |
| sachee baanee har gun gaavai nadharee nadhar nihaal ||3|| |
| Through the True Word of Gurbani, he sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord; blessed with the Lord's Glance of Grace, he is enraptured. ||3|| |
|
| ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਘਟਿ ਚਾਨਣੁ ਅਮਰੁ ਸਿਰਿ ਬਾਦਿਸਾਹਾ ॥ |
| sathigur giaan sadhaa ghatt chaanan amar sir baadhisaahaa || |
| The spiritual wisdom of the True Guru is a steady light within the heart. The Lord's decree is over the heads of even kings. |
|
| ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਚੁ ਲਾਹਾ ॥ |
| anadhin bhagath karehi dhin raathee raam naam sach laahaa || |
| Night and day, the Lord's devotees worship Him; night and day, they gather in the true profit of the Lord's Name. |
