| sagal samagree mohi viaapee kab oochae kab neechae || |
| The whole creation is engrossed in emotional attachment; sometimes, one is high, and at other times, low. |

| ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਸਾਧ ਸਰਣਿ ਛੁਟਕਾਰਾ ॥ |
| maerae man saadhh saran shhuttakaaraa || |
| O my mind, emancipation is attained in the Sanctuary of the Holy Saints. |
|
| ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣੁ ਨ ਰਹਈ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਵਤ ਬਾਰੋ ਬਾਰਾ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| bin gur poorae janam maran n rehee fir aavath baaro baaraa || rehaao || |
| Without the Perfect Guru, births and deaths do not cease, and one comes and goes, over and over again. ||Pause|| |

| ਓਹੁ ਜੁ ਭਰਮੁ ਭੁਲਾਵਾ ਕਹੀਅਤ ਤਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਉਰਝਿਓ ਸਗਲ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥ |
| ouhu j bharam bhulaavaa keheeath thin mehi ourajhiou sagal sansaaraa || |
| The whole world is entangled in what is called the delusion of doubt. |

| ਪੂਰਨ ਭਗਤੁ ਪੁਰਖ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਕਾ ਸਰਬ ਥੋਕ ਤੇ ਨਿਆਰਾ ॥੨॥ |
| pooran bhagath purakh suaamee kaa sarab thhok thae niaaraa ||2|| |
| The perfect devotee of the Primal Lord God remains detached from everything. ||2|| |
|
| ਨਿੰਦਉ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਾਹੂ ਬਾਤੈ ਏਹੁ ਖਸਮ ਕਾ ਕੀਆ ॥ |
| nindho naahee kaahoo baathai eaehu khasam kaa keeaa || |
| Don't indulge in slander for any reason, for everything is the creation of the Lord and Master. |

| ਜਾ ਕਉ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਮੇਰੈ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਨਾਉ ਲੀਆ ॥੩॥ |
| jaa ko kirapaa karee prabh maerai mil saadhhasangath naao leeaa ||3|| |
| One who is blessed with the Mercy of my God, dwells on the Name in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. ||3|| |

| ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਪਰਮੇਸੁਰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਭਨਾ ਕਰਤ ਉਧਾਰਾ ॥ |
| paarabreham paramaesur sathigur sabhanaa karath oudhhaaraa || |
| The Supreme Lord God, the Transcendent Lord, the True Guru, saves all. |

| ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਹੀ ਤਰੀਐ ਇਹੁ ਪੂਰਨ ਤਤੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਾ ॥੪॥੯॥ |
| kahu naanak gur bin nehee thareeai eihu pooran thath beechaaraa ||4||9|| |
| Says Nanak, without the Guru, no one crosses over; this is the perfect essence of all contemplation. ||4||9|| |

| ਖੋਜਤ ਖੋਜਤ ਖੋਜਿ ਬੀਚਾਰਿਓ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਤਤੁ ਸਾਰਾ ॥ |
| khojath khojath khoj beechaariou raam naam thath saaraa || |
| I have searched and searched and searched, and found that the Lord's Name is the most sublime reality. |

| ਕਿਲਬਿਖ ਕਾਟੇ ਨਿਮਖ ਅਰਾਧਿਆ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਾਰਾ ॥੧॥ |
| kilabikh kaattae nimakh araadhhiaa guramukh paar outhaaraa ||1|| |
| Contemplating it for even an instant, sins are erased; the Gurmukh is carried across and saved. ||1|| |
|
| ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਵਹੁ ਪੁਰਖ ਗਿਆਨੀ ॥ |
| har ras peevahu purakh giaanee || |
| Drink in the sublime essence of the Lord's Name, O man of spiritual wisdom. |

| ਸੁਣਿ ਸੁਣਿ ਮਹਾ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਮਨੁ ਪਾਵੈ ਸਾਧੂ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬਾਨੀ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| sun sun mehaa thripath man paavai saadhhoo anmrith baanee || rehaao || |
| Listening to the Ambrosial Words of the Holy Saints, the mind finds absolute fulfillment and satisfaction. ||Pause|| |

| ਮੁਕਤਿ ਭੁਗਤਿ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਸਚੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਰਬ ਸੁਖਾ ਕਾ ਦਾਤਾ ॥ |
| mukath bhugath jugath sach paaeeai sarab sukhaa kaa dhaathaa || |
| Liberation, pleasures, and the true way of life are obtained from the Lord, the Giver of all peace. |

| ਅਪੁਨੇ ਦਾਸ ਕਉ ਭਗਤਿ ਦਾਨੁ ਦੇਵੈ ਪੂਰਨ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਬਿਧਾਤਾ ॥੨॥ |
| apunae dhaas ko bhagath dhaan dhaevai pooran purakh bidhhaathaa ||2|| |
| The Perfect Lord, the Architect of Destiny, blesses His slave with the gift of devotional worship. ||2|| |
|
| ਸ੍ਰਵਣੀ ਸੁਣੀਐ ਰਸਨਾ ਗਾਈਐ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਸੋਈ ॥ |
| sravanee suneeai rasanaa gaaeeai hiradhai dhhiaaeeai soee || |
| Hear with your ears, and sing with your tongue, and meditate within your heart on Him. |

| ਕਰਣ ਕਾਰਣ ਸਮਰਥ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਜਾ ਤੇ ਬ੍ਰਿਥਾ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥੩॥ |
| karan kaaran samarathh suaamee jaa thae brithhaa n koee ||3|| |
| The Lord and Master is all-powerful, the Cause of causes; without Him, there is nothing at all. ||3|| |
|
| ਵਡੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਰਤਨ ਜਨਮੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਕਰਹੁ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਿਰਪਾਲਾ ॥ |
| vaddai bhaag rathan janam paaeiaa karahu kirapaa kirapaalaa || |
| By great good fortune, I have obtained the jewel of human life; have mercy on me, O Merciful Lord. |

| ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਸਿਮਰੈ ਸਦਾ ਗ+ਪਾਲਾ ॥੪॥੧੦॥ |
| saadhhasang naanak gun gaavai simarai sadhaa guopaalaa ||4||10|| |
| In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, Nanak sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord, and contemplates Him forever in meditation. ||4||10|| |

| ਕਰਿ ਇਸਨਾਨੁ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਅਪਨਾ ਮਨ ਤਨ ਭਏ ਅਰੋਗਾ ॥ |
| kar eisanaan simar prabh apanaa man than bheae arogaa || |
| After taking your cleansing bath, remember your God in meditation, and your mind and body shall be free of disease. |
|
| ਕੋਟਿ ਬਿਘਨ ਲਾਥੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਰਣਾ ਪ੍ਰਗਟੇ ਭਲੇ ਸੰਜੋਗਾ ॥੧॥ |
| kott bighan laathhae prabh saranaa pragattae bhalae sanjogaa ||1|| |
| Millions of obstacles are removed, in the Sanctuary of God, and good fortune dawns. ||1|| |
|
| ਪ੍ਰਭ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੁਭਾਖਿਆ ॥ |

| The Word of God's Bani, and His Shabad, are the best utterances. |
|
| ਗਾਵਹੁ ਸੁਣਹੁ ਪੜਹੁ ਨਿਤ ਭਾਈ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੈ ਤੂ ਰਾਖਿਆ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| gaavahu sunahu parrahu nith bhaaee gur poorai thoo raakhiaa || rehaao || |
| So constantly sing them, listen to them, and read them, O Siblings of Destiny, and the Perfect Guru shall save you. ||Pause|| |

| ਸਾਚਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਅਮਿਤਿ ਵਡਾਈ ਭਗਤਿ ਵਛਲ ਦਇਆਲਾ ॥ |
| saachaa saahib amith vaddaaee bhagath vashhal dhaeiaalaa || |
| The glorious greatness of the True Lord is immeasurable; the Merciful Lord is the Lover of His devotees. |

| ਸੰਤਾ ਕੀ ਪੈਜ ਰਖਦਾ ਆਇਆ ਆਦਿ ਬਿਰਦੁ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲਾ ॥੨॥ |
| santhaa kee paij rakhadhaa aaeiaa aadh biradh prathipaalaa ||2|| |
| He has preserved the honor of His Saints; from the very beginning of time, His Nature is to cherish them. ||2|| |
|
| ਹਰਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਭੋਜਨੁ ਨਿਤ ਭੁੰਚਹੁ ਸਰਬ ਵੇਲਾ ਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਵਹੁ ॥ |
| har anmrith naam bhojan nith bhunchahu sarab vaelaa mukh paavahu || |
| So eat the Ambrosial Name of the Lord as your food; put it into your mouth at all times. |
|
| ਜਰਾ ਮਰਾ ਤਾਪੁ ਸਭੁ ਨਾਠਾ ਗੁਣ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਨਿਤ ਗਾਵਹੁ ॥੩॥ |
| jaraa maraa thaap sabh naathaa gun gobindh nith gaavahu ||3|| |
| The pains of old age and death shall all depart, when you constantly sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord of the Universe. ||3|| |
|
| ਸੁਣੀ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਮੇਰੈ ਸਰਬ ਕਲਾ ਬਣਿ ਆਈ ॥ |
| sunee aradhaas suaamee maerai sarab kalaa ban aaee || |
| My Lord and Master has heard my prayer, and all my affairs have been resolved. |
|
| ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਭਈ ਸਗਲੇ ਜੁਗ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੪॥੧੧॥ |
| pragatt bhee sagalae jug anthar gur naanak kee vaddiaaee ||4||11|| |
| The glorious greatness of Guru Nanak is manifest, throughout all the ages. ||4||11|| |

| ਏਕੁ ਪਿਤਾ ਏਕਸ ਕੇ ਹਮ ਬਾਰਿਕ ਤੂ ਮੇਰਾ ਗੁਰ ਹਾਈ ॥ |

| The One God is our father; we are the children of the One God. You are our Guru. |

| ਸੁਣਿ ਮੀਤਾ ਧੂਰੀ ਕਉ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਈ ॥ |
| sun meethaa dhhooree ko bal jaaee || |
| Listen, friends: I am a sacrifice to the dust of Your feet. |

| ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਭਾਈ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| eihu man thaeraa bhaaee || rehaao || |
| This mind is yours, O Siblings of Destiny. ||Pause|| |

| ਪਾਵ ਮਲੋਵਾ ਮਲਿ ਮਲਿ ਧੋਵਾ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਤੈ ਕੂ ਦੇਸਾ ॥ |
| paav malovaa mal mal dhhovaa eihu man thai koo dhaesaa || |
| I wash your feet, I massage and clean them; I give this mind to you. |

| ਸੁਣਿ ਮੀਤਾ ਹਉ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਆਇਆ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮਿਲਉ ਦੇਹੁ ਉਪਦੇਸਾ ॥੨॥ |
| sun meethaa ho thaeree saranaaee aaeiaa prabh milo dhaehu oupadhaesaa ||2|| |
| Listen, friends: I have come to Your Sanctuary; teach me, that I might unite with God. ||2|| |
|
| ਮਾਨੁ ਨ ਕੀਜੈ ਸਰਣਿ ਪਰੀਜੈ ਕਰੈ ਸੁ ਭਲਾ ਮਨਾਈਐ ॥ |
| maan n keejai saran pareejai karai s bhalaa manaaeeai || |
| Do not be proud; seek His Sanctuary, and accept as good all that He does. |

| ਸੁਣਿ ਮੀਤਾ ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਸਭੁ ਤਨੁ ਅਰਪੀਜੈ ਇਉ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਪਾਈਐ ॥੩॥ |
| sun meethaa jeeo pindd sabh than arapeejai eio dharasan har jeeo paaeeai ||3|| |
| Listen, friends: dedicate your soul, body and your whole being to Him; thus you shall receive the Blessed Vision of His Darshan. ||3|| |

| ਭਇਓ ਅਨੁਗ੍ਰਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਸੰਤਨ ਕੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਾ ਹੈ ਮੀਠਾ ॥ |
| bhaeiou anugrahu prasaadh santhan kai har naamaa hai meethaa || |
| He has shown mercy to me, by the Grace of the Saints; the Lord's Name is sweet to me. |

| ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਉ ਗੁਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰੀ ਸਭੁ ਅਕੁਲ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਡੀਠਾ ॥੪॥੧॥੧੨॥ |
| jan naanak ko gur kirapaa dhhaaree sabh akul niranjan ddeethaa ||4||1||12|| |
| The Guru has shown mercy to servant Nanak; I see the casteless, immaculate Lord everywhere. ||4||1||12|| |

| kott brehamandd ko thaakur suaamee sarab jeeaa kaa dhaathaa rae || |
| God is the Lord and Master of millions of universes; He is the Giver of all beings. |

| ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲੈ ਨਿਤ ਸਾਰਿ ਸਮਾਲੈ ਇਕੁ ਗੁਨੁ ਨਹੀ ਮੂਰਖਿ ਜਾਤਾ ਰੇ ॥੧॥ |
| prathipaalai nith saar samaalai eik gun nehee moorakh jaathaa rae ||1|| |
| He ever cherishes and cares for all beings, but the fool does not appreciate any of His virtues. ||1|| |
|
| ਹਰਿ ਆਰਾਧਿ ਨ ਜਾਨਾ ਰੇ ॥ |
| har aaraadhh n jaanaa rae || |
| I do not know how to worship the Lord in adoration. |
|
| ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਰੇ ॥ |
| har har gur gur karathaa rae || |
| I can only repeat, ""Lord, Lord, Guru, Guru."" |
|
| ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਰਿਓ ਰਾਮਦਾਸੁ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| har jeeo naam pariou raamadhaas || rehaao || |
| O Dear Lord, I go by the name of the Lord's slave. ||Pause|| |

| ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰ ਸਰਬ ਘਟਾ ਭਰਪੂਰੀ ਰੇ ॥ |
| dheen dhaeiaal kirapaal sukh saagar sarab ghattaa bharapooree rae || |
| The Compassionate Lord is Merciful to the meek, the ocean of peace; He fills all hearts. |
