| ਪੇਖਤ ਸੁਨਤ ਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਸੰਗੇ ਮੈ ਮੂਰਖ ਜਾਨਿਆ ਦੂਰੀ ਰੇ ॥੨॥ |
| paekhath sunath sadhaa hai sangae mai moorakh jaaniaa dhooree rae ||2|| |
| He sees, hears, and is always with me; but I am a fool, and I think that He is far away. ||2|| |

| ਹਰਿ ਬਿਅੰਤੁ ਹਉ ਮਿਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਵਰਨਉ ਕਿਆ ਜਾਨਾ ਹੋਇ ਕੈਸੋ ਰੇ ॥ |
| har bianth ho mith kar varano kiaa jaanaa hoe kaiso rae || |
| The Lord is limitless, but I can only describe Him within my limitations; what do I know, about what He is like? |

| ਕਰਉ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਮੈ ਮੂਰਖ ਦੇਹੁ ਉਪਦੇਸੋ ਰੇ ॥੩॥ |
| karo baenathee sathigur apunae mai moorakh dhaehu oupadhaeso rae ||3|| |
| I offer my prayer to my True Guru; I am so foolish - please, teach me! ||3|| |

| ਮੈ ਮੂਰਖ ਕੀ ਕੇਤਕ ਬਾਤ ਹੈ ਕੋਟਿ ਪਰਾਧੀ ਤਰਿਆ ਰੇ ॥ |
| mai moorakh kee kaethak baath hai kott paraadhhee thariaa rae || |
| I am just a fool, but millions of sinners just like me have been saved. |

| ਗੁਰੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਜਿਨ ਸੁਣਿਆ ਪੇਖਿਆ ਸੇ ਫਿਰਿ ਗਰਭਾਸਿ ਨ ਪਰਿਆ ਰੇ ॥੪॥੨॥੧੩॥ |
| gur naanak jin suniaa paekhiaa sae fir garabhaas n pariaa rae ||4||2||13|| |
| Those who have heard, and seen Guru Nanak, do not descend into the womb of reincarnation again. ||4||2||13|| |

| ਜਿਨਾ ਬਾਤ ਕੋ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਅੰਦੇਸਰੋ ਤੇ ਮਿਟੇ ਸਭਿ ਗਇਆ ॥ |
| jinaa baath ko bahuth andhaesaro thae mittae sabh gaeiaa || |
| Those things, which caused me such anxiety, have all vanished. |

| ਸਹਜ ਸੈਨ ਅਰੁ ਸੁਖਮਨ ਨਾਰੀ ਊਧ ਕਮਲ ਬਿਗਸਇਆ ॥੧॥ |
| sehaj sain ar sukhaman naaree oodhh kamal bigasaeiaa ||1|| |
| Now, I sleep in peace and tranquility, and my mind is in a state of deep and profound peace; the inverted lotus of my heart has blossomed forth. ||1|| |

| ਦੇਖਹੁ ਅਚਰਜੁ ਭਇਆ ॥ |
| dhaekhahu acharaj bhaeiaa || |
| Behold, a wondrous miracle has happened! |
|
| ਜਿਹ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਕਉ ਸੁਨਤ ਅਗਾਧਿ ਬੋਧਿ ਸੋ ਰਿਦੈ ਗੁਰਿ ਦਇਆ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| jih thaakur ko sunath agaadhh bodhh so ridhai gur dhaeiaa || rehaao || |
| That Lord and Master, whose wisdom is said to be unfathomable, has been enshrined within my heart, by the Guru. ||Pause|| |

| ਜੋਇ ਦੂਤ ਮੋਹਿ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਸੰਤਾਵਤ ਤੇ ਭਇਆਨਕ ਭਇਆ ॥ |
| joe dhooth mohi bahuth santhaavath thae bhaeiaanak bhaeiaa || |
| The demons which tormented me so much, have themselves become terrified. |
|
| ਕਰਹਿ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਰਾਖੁ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਤੇ ਹਮ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨਇਆ ॥੨॥ |
| karehi baenathee raakh thaakur thae ham thaeree saranaeiaa ||2|| |
| They pray: please, save us from your Lord Master; we seek your protection. ||2|| |
|
| ਜਹ ਭੰਡਾਰੁ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਕਾ ਖੁਲਿਆ ਜਿਹ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤਿ ਤਿਹ ਲਇਆ ॥ |
| jeh bhanddaar gobindh kaa khuliaa jih praapath thih laeiaa || |
| When the treasure of the Lord of the Universe is opened, those who are pre-destined, receive it. |

| ਏਕੁ ਰਤਨੁ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਨਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਥਿਆ ॥੩॥ |
| eaek rathan mo ko gur dheenaa maeraa man than seethal thhiaa ||3|| |
| The Guru has given me the one jewel, and my mind and body have become peaceful and tranquil. ||3|| |
|
| ਏਕ ਬੂੰਦ ਗੁਰਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਦੀਨੋ ਤਾ ਅਟਲੁ ਅਮਰੁ ਨ ਮੁਆ ॥ |
| eaek boondh gur anmrith dheeno thaa attal amar n muaa || |
| The Guru has blessed me with the one drop of Ambrosial Nectar, and so I have become stable, unmoving and immortal - I shall not die. |

| ਭਗਤਿ ਭੰਡਾਰ ਗੁਰਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਉ ਸਉਪੇ ਫਿਰਿ ਲੇਖਾ ਮੂਲਿ ਨ ਲਇਆ ॥੪॥੩॥੧੪॥ |
| bhagath bhanddaar gur naanak ko soupae fir laekhaa mool n laeiaa ||4||3||14|| |
| The Lord blessed Guru Nanak with the treasure of devotional worship, and did not call him to account again. ||4||3||14|| |

| ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਸਿਉ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਮਨੁ ਲੀਨਾ ਸੇ ਜਨ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਅਘਾਈ ॥ |
| charan kamal sio jaa kaa man leenaa sae jan thripath aghaaee || |
| Those whose minds are attached to the lotus feet of the Lord - those humble beings are satisfied and fulfilled. |
|
| ਗੁਣ ਅਮੋਲ ਜਿਸੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਨ ਵਸਿਆ ਤੇ ਨਰ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨ ਤ੍ਰਿਖਾਈ ॥੧॥ |
| gun amol jis ridhai n vasiaa thae nar thrisan thrikhaaee ||1|| |
| But those, within whose hearts the priceless virtue does not abide - those men remain thirsty and unsatisfied. ||1|| |
|
| ਹਰਿ ਆਰਾਧੇ ਅਰੋਗ ਅਨਦਾਈ ॥ |
| har aaraadhhae arog anadhaaee || |
| Worshipping the Lord in adoration, one becomes happy, and free of disease. |
|
| ਜਿਹ ਜਨ ਓਟ ਗਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੇਰੀ ਸੇ ਸੁਖੀਏ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਰਣੇ ॥ |
| jih jan outt gehee prabh thaeree sae sukheeeae prabh saranae || |
| Those who hold tightly to Your Support, God, are happy in Your Sanctuary. |
|
| ਜਿਹ ਨਰ ਬਿਸਰਿਆ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਬਿਧਾਤਾ ਤੇ ਦੁਖੀਆ ਮਹਿ ਗਨਣੇ ॥੨॥ |
| jih nar bisariaa purakh bidhhaathaa thae dhukheeaa mehi gananae ||2|| |
| But those humble beings who forget the Primal Lord, the Architect of Destiny, are counted among the most miserable beings. ||2|| |
|
| ਜਿਹ ਗੁਰ ਮਾਨਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ਤਿਹ ਮਹਾ ਅਨੰਦ ਰਸੁ ਕਰਿਆ ॥ |
| jih gur maan prabhoo liv laaee thih mehaa anandh ras kariaa || |
| One who has faith in the Guru, and who is lovingly attached to God, enjoys the delights of supreme ecstasy. |

| ਜਿਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਬਿਸਾਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਬੇਮੁਖਾਈ ਤੇ ਨਰਕ ਘੋਰ ਮਹਿ ਪਰਿਆ ॥੩॥ |
| jih prabhoo bisaar gur thae baemukhaaee thae narak ghor mehi pariaa ||3|| |
| One who forgets God and forsakes the Guru, falls into the most horrible hell. ||3|| |
|
| ਜਿਤੁ ਕੋ ਲਾਇਆ ਤਿਤ ਹੀ ਲਾਗਾ ਤੈਸੋ ਹੀ ਵਰਤਾਰਾ ॥ |
| jith ko laaeiaa thith hee laagaa thaiso hee varathaaraa || |
| As the Lord engages someone, so he is engaged, and so does he perform. |
|
| ਨਾਨਕ ਸਹ ਪਕਰੀ ਸੰਤਨ ਕੀ ਰਿਦੈ ਭਏ ਮਗਨ ਚਰਨਾਰਾ ॥੪॥੪॥੧੫॥ |
| naanak seh pakaree santhan kee ridhai bheae magan charanaaraa ||4||4||15|| |
| Nanak has taken to the Shelter of the Saints; his heart is absorbed in the Lord's feet. ||4||4||15|| |

| ਰਾਜਨ ਮਹਿ ਰਾਜਾ ਉਰਝਾਇਓ ਮਾਨਨ ਮਹਿ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੀ ॥ |
| raajan mehi raajaa ourajhaaeiou maanan mehi abhimaanee || |
| As the king is entangled in kingly affairs, and the egotist in his own egotism, |
|
| ਲੋਭਨ ਮਹਿ ਲੋਭੀ ਲੋਭਾਇਓ ਤਿਉ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਚੇ ਗਿਆਨੀ ॥੧॥ |
| lobhan mehi lobhee lobhaaeiou thio har rang rachae giaanee ||1|| |
| and the greedy man is enticed by greed, so is the spiritually enlightened being absorbed in the Love of the Lord. ||1|| |
|
| ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਕਉ ਇਹੀ ਸੁਹਾਵੈ ॥ |
| har jan ko eihee suhaavai || |
| This is what befits the Lord's servant. |
|
| ਪੇਖਿ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਕਰਿ ਸੇਵਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨਿ ਹੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਵੈ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| paekh nikatt kar saevaa sathigur har keerathan hee thripathaavai || rehaao || |
| Beholding the Lord near at hand, he serves the True Guru, and he is satisfied through the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises. ||Pause|| |

| ਅਮਲਨ ਸਿਉ ਅਮਲੀ ਲਪਟਾਇਓ ਭੂਮਨ ਭੂਮਿ ਪਿਆਰੀ ॥ |
| amalan sio amalee lapattaaeiou bhooman bhoom piaaree || |
| The addict is addicted to his drug, and the landlord is in love with his land. |
|
| ਖੀਰ ਸੰਗਿ ਬਾਰਿਕੁ ਹੈ ਲੀਨਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸੰਤ ਐਸੇ ਹਿਤਕਾਰੀ ॥੨॥ |
| kheer sang baarik hai leenaa prabh santh aisae hithakaaree ||2|| |
| As the baby is attached to his milk, so the Saint is in love with God. ||2|| |
|
| ਬਿਦਿਆ ਮਹਿ ਬਿਦੁਅੰਸੀ ਰਚਿਆ ਨੈਨ ਦੇਖਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਹਿ ॥ |
| bidhiaa mehi bidhuansee rachiaa nain dhaekh sukh paavehi || |
| The scholar is absorbed in scholarship, and the eyes are happy to see. |
|
| ਜੈਸੇ ਰਸਨਾ ਸਾਦਿ ਲੁਭਾਨੀ ਤਿਉ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹਿ ॥੩॥ |
| jaisae rasanaa saadh lubhaanee thio har jan har gun gaavehi ||3|| |
| As the tongue savors the tastes, so does the humble servant of the Lord sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||3|| |
|
| ਜੈਸੀ ਭੂਖ ਤੈਸੀ ਕਾ ਪੂਰਕੁ ਸਗਲ ਘਟਾ ਕਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥ |
| jaisee bhookh thaisee kaa poorak sagal ghattaa kaa suaamee || |
| As is the hunger, so is the fulfiller; He is the Lord and Master of all hearts. |
|
| ਨਾਨਕ ਪਿਆਸ ਲਗੀ ਦਰਸਨ ਕੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ॥੪॥੫॥੧੬॥ |
| naanak piaas lagee dharasan kee prabh miliaa antharajaamee ||4||5||16|| |
| Nanak thirsts for the Blessed Vision of the Lord's Darshan; he has met God, the Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts. ||4||5||16|| |

| ham mailae thum oojal karathae ham niragun thoo dhaathaa || |
| We are filthy, and You are immaculate, O Creator Lord; we are worthless, and You are the Great Giver. |
|
| ਹਮ ਮੂਰਖ ਤੁਮ ਚਤੁਰ ਸਿਆਣੇ ਤੂ ਸਰਬ ਕਲਾ ਕਾ ਗਿਆਤਾ ॥੧॥ |
| ham moorakh thum chathur siaanae thoo sarab kalaa kaa giaathaa ||1|| |
| We are fools, and You are wise and all-knowing. You are the knower of all things. ||1|| |
|
| ਮਾਧੋ ਹਮ ਐਸੇ ਤੂ ਐਸਾ ॥ |
| maadhho ham aisae thoo aisaa || |
| O Lord, this is what we are, and this is what You are. |
|
| ਹਮ ਪਾਪੀ ਤੁਮ ਪਾਪ ਖੰਡਨ ਨੀਕੋ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਦੇਸਾ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| ham paapee thum paap khanddan neeko thaakur dhaesaa || rehaao || |
| We are sinners, and You are the Destroyer of sins. Your abode is so beautiful, O Lord and Master. ||Pause|| |

| ਤੁਮ ਸਭ ਸਾਜੇ ਸਾਜਿ ਨਿਵਾਜੇ ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਨਾ ॥ |
| thum sabh saajae saaj nivaajae jeeo pindd dhae praanaa || |
| You fashion all, and having fashioned them, You bless them. You bestow upon them soul, body and the breath of life. |
|
| ਨਿਰਗੁਨੀਆਰੇ ਗੁਨੁ ਨਹੀ ਕੋਈ ਤੁਮ ਦਾਨੁ ਦੇਹੁ ਮਿਹਰਵਾਨਾ ॥੨॥ |
| niraguneeaarae gun nehee koee thum dhaan dhaehu miharavaanaa ||2|| |
| We are worthless - we have no virtue at all; please, bless us with Your gift, O Merciful Lordand Master. ||2|| |
|
| ਤੁਮ ਕਰਹੁ ਭਲਾ ਹਮ ਭਲੋ ਨ ਜਾਨਹ ਤੁਮ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਦਇਆਲਾ ॥ |
| thum karahu bhalaa ham bhalo n jaaneh thum sadhaa sadhaa dhaeiaalaa || |
| You do good for us, but we do not see it as good; You are kind and compassionate, forever and ever. |

| ਤੁਮ ਸੁਖਦਾਈ ਪੁਰਖ ਬਿਧਾਤੇ ਤੁਮ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਬਾਲਾ ॥੩॥ |
| thum sukhadhaaee purakh bidhhaathae thum raakhahu apunae baalaa ||3|| |
| You are the Giver of peace, the Primal Lord, the Architect of Destiny; please, save us, Your children! ||3|| |

| ਤੁਮ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਅਟਲ ਸੁਲਿਤਾਨ ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਸਭਿ ਜਾਚੈ ॥ |
| thum nidhhaan attal sulithaan jeea janth sabh jaachai || |
| You are the treasure, eternal Lord King; all beings and creatures beg of You. |
|
| ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਮ ਇਹੈ ਹਵਾਲਾ ਰਾਖੁ ਸੰਤਨ ਕੈ ਪਾਛੈ ॥੪॥੬॥੧੭॥ |
| kahu naanak ham eihai havaalaa raakh santhan kai paashhai ||4||6||17|| |
| Says Nanak, such is our condition; please, Lord, keep us on the Path of the Saints. ||4||6||17|| |

| maath garabh mehi aapan simaran dhae theh thum raakhanehaarae || |
| In our mother's womb, You blessed us with Your meditative remembrance, and You preserved us there. |
