| sunahu binanthee thaakur maerae jeea janth thaerae dhhaarae || |
| Hear my prayer, O my Lord and Master; all beings and creatures were created by You. |

| ਰਾਖੁ ਪੈਜ ਨਾਮ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਕੀ ਕਰਨ ਕਰਾਵਨਹਾਰੇ ॥੧॥ |
| raakh paij naam apunae kee karan karaavanehaarae ||1|| |
| You preserve the honor of Your Name, O Lord, Cause of causes. ||1|| |

| O Dear God, Beloved, please, make me Your own. |

| The Almighty Lord and Master heard my prayer; cutting away my bonds, He has adorned me. |

| He dressed me in robes of honor, and blended His servant with Himself; Nanak is revealed in glory throughout the world. ||2||29||93|| |

| ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਸਭਿ ਵਸਿ ਕਰਿ ਦੀਨੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਸਭਿ ਦਰਬਾਰੇ ॥ |
| jeea janth sabh vas kar dheenae saevak sabh dharabaarae || |
| All beings and creatures are subservient to all those who serve in the Lord's Court. |

| ਅੰਗੀਕਾਰੁ ਕੀਓ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਭਵ ਨਿਧਿ ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਾਰੇ ॥੧॥ |
| angeekaar keeou prabh apunae bhav nidhh paar outhaarae ||1|| |
| Their God made them His own, and carried them across the terrifying world-ocean. ||1|| |

| ਸੰਤਨ ਕੇ ਕਾਰਜ ਸਗਲ ਸਵਾਰੇ ॥ |

| He resolves all the affairs of His Saints. |

| He is merciful to the meek, kind and compassionate, the ocean of kindness, my Perfect Lord and Master. ||Pause|| |

| ਆਉ ਬੈਠੁ ਆਦਰੁ ਸਭ ਥਾਈ ਊਨ ਨ ਕਤਹੂੰ ਬਾਤਾ ॥ |
| aao baith aadhar sabh thhaaee oon n kathehoon baathaa || |
| I am asked to come and be seated, everywhere I go, and I lack nothing. |

| ਭਗਤਿ ਸਿਰਪਾਉ ਦੀਓ ਜਨ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਤਾਪੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜਾਤਾ ॥੨॥੩੦॥੯੪॥ |

| One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru: |

| ਰੇ ਮਨ ਰਾਮ ਸਿਉ ਕਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ॥ |

| O mind, love the Lord. |
|
| ਸ੍ਰਵਨ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਗੁਨੁ ਸੁਨਉ ਅਰੁ ਗਾਉ ਰਸਨਾ ਗੀਤਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| sravan gobindh gun suno ar gaao rasanaa geeth ||1|| rehaao || |
| With your ears, hear the Glorious Praises of the Lord of the Universe, and with your tongue, sing His song. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਕਰਿ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਸਿਮਰੁ ਮਾਧੋ ਹੋਹਿ ਪਤਿਤ ਪੁਨੀਤ ॥ |
| kar saadhhasangath simar maadhho hohi pathith puneeth || |
| Join the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, and meditate in remembrance on the Lord; even a sinner like yourself will become pure. |

| ਕਾਲੁ ਬਿਆਲੁ ਜਿਉ ਪਰਿਓ ਡੋਲੈ ਮੁਖੁ ਪਸਾਰੇ ਮੀਤ ॥੧॥ |
| kaal biaal jio pariou ddolai mukh pasaarae meeth ||1|| |
| Death is on the prowl, with its mouth wide open, friend. ||1|| |
|
| ਆਜੁ ਕਾਲਿ ਫੁਨਿ ਤੋਹਿ ਗ੍ਰਸਿ ਹੈ ਸਮਝਿ ਰਾਖਉ ਚੀਤਿ ॥ |
| aaj kaal fun thohi gras hai samajh raakho cheeth || |
| Today or tomorrow, eventually it will seize you; understand this in your consciousness. |

| ਕਹੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਰਾਮੁ ਭਜਿ ਲੈ ਜਾਤੁ ਅਉਸਰੁ ਬੀਤ ॥੨॥੧॥ |

| Says Nanak, meditate, and vibrate upon the Lord; this opportunity is slipping away! ||2||1|| |

| ਮਨ ਕੀ ਮਨ ਹੀ ਮਾਹਿ ਰਹੀ ॥ |
| man kee man hee maahi rehee || |
| The mind remains in the mind. |
|
| ਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਭਜੇ ਨ ਤੀਰਥ ਸੇਵੇ ਚੋਟੀ ਕਾਲਿ ਗਹੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| naa har bhajae n theerathh saevae chottee kaal gehee ||1|| rehaao || |
| He does not meditate on the Lord, nor does he perform service at sacred shrines, and so death seizes him by the hair. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਦਾਰਾ ਮੀਤ ਪੂਤ ਰਥ ਸੰਪਤਿ ਧਨ ਪੂਰਨ ਸਭ ਮਹੀ ॥ |
| dhaaraa meeth pooth rathh sanpath dhhan pooran sabh mehee || |
| Wife, friends, children, carriages, property, total wealth, the entire world |

| ਅਵਰ ਸਗਲ ਮਿਥਿਆ ਏ ਜਾਨਉ ਭਜਨੁ ਰਾਮੁ ਕੋ ਸਹੀ ॥੧॥ |
| avar sagal mithhiaa eae jaano bhajan raam ko sehee ||1|| |
| - know that all of these things are false. The Lord's meditation alone is true. ||1|| |
|
| ਫਿਰਤ ਫਿਰਤ ਬਹੁਤੇ ਜੁਗ ਹਾਰਿਓ ਮਾਨਸ ਦੇਹ ਲਹੀ ॥ |
| firath firath bahuthae jug haariou maanas dhaeh lehee || |
| Wandering, wandering around for so many ages, he has grown weary, and finally, he obtained this human body. |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਕਹਤ ਮਿਲਨ ਕੀ ਬਰੀਆ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਕਹਾ ਨਹੀ ॥੨॥੨॥ |
| naanak kehath milan kee bareeaa simarath kehaa nehee ||2||2|| |
| Says Nanak, this is the opportunity to meet the Lord; why don't you remember Him in meditation? ||2||2|| |

| ਮਨ ਰੇ ਕਉਨੁ ਕੁਮਤਿ ਤੈ ਲੀਨੀ ॥ |

| O mind, what evil-mindedness have you developed? |
|
| ਪਰ ਦਾਰਾ ਨਿੰਦਿਆ ਰਸ ਰਚਿਓ ਰਾਮ ਭਗਤਿ ਨਹਿ ਕੀਨੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| par dhaaraa nindhiaa ras rachiou raam bhagath nehi keenee ||1|| rehaao || |
| You are engrossed in the pleasures of other men's wives, and slander; you have not worshipped the Lord at all. ||1||Pause|| |
|
| ਅੰਤਿ ਸੰਗ ਕਾਹੂ ਨਹੀ ਦੀਨਾ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਆਪੁ ਬੰਧਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ |
| anth sang kaahoo nehee dheenaa birathhaa aap bandhhaaeiaa ||1|| |
| In the end, nothing shall go along with you; you have entrapped yourself in vain. ||1|| |
|
| ਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਭਜਿਓ ਨ ਗੁਰ ਜਨੁ ਸੇਵਿਓ ਨਹ ਉਪਜਿਓ ਕਛੁ ਗਿਆਨਾ ॥ |
| naa har bhajiou n gur jan saeviou neh oupajiou kashh giaanaa || |
| You have not meditated or vibrated upon the Lord; you have not served the Guru, or His humble servants; spiritual wisdom has not welled up within you. |

| ਘਟ ਹੀ ਮਾਹਿ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਤੇਰੈ ਤੈ ਖੋਜਤ ਉਦਿਆਨਾ ॥੨॥ |
| ghatt hee maahi niranjan thaerai thai khojath oudhiaanaa ||2|| |
| The Immaculate Lord is within your heart, and yet you search for Him in the wilderness. ||2|| |
|
| ਬਹੁਤੁ ਜਨਮ ਭਰਮਤ ਤੈ ਹਾਰਿਓ ਅਸਥਿਰ ਮਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਈ ॥ |
| bahuth janam bharamath thai haariou asathhir math nehee paaee || |
| You have wandered through many many births; you are exhausted but have still not found a way out of this endless cycle. |

| ਮਾਨਸ ਦੇਹ ਪਾਇ ਪਦ ਹਰਿ ਭਜੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਾਤ ਬਤਾਈ ॥੩॥੩॥ |
| maanas dhaeh paae padh har bhaj naanak baath bathaaee ||3||3|| |
| Now that you have obtained this human body, meditate on the Lord's Feet; Nanak advises with this advice. ||3||3|| |

| O mind, contemplate the Sanctuary of God. |
|
| ਜਿਹ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਗਨਕਾ ਸੀ ਉਧਰੀ ਤਾ ਕੋ ਜਸੁ ਉਰ ਧਾਰੋ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| jih simarath ganakaa see oudhharee thaa ko jas our dhhaaro ||1|| rehaao || |
| Meditating on Him in remembrance, Ganika the prostitute was saved; enshrine His Praises within your heart. ||1||Pause|| |
|
| ਅਟਲ ਭਇਓ ਧ੍ਰੂਅ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਸਿਮਰਨਿ ਅਰੁ ਨਿਰਭੈ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ |
| attal bhaeiou dhhrooa jaa kai simaran ar nirabhai padh paaeiaa || |
| Meditating on Him in remembrance, Dhroo became immortal, and obtained the state of fearlessness. |

| ਦੁਖ ਹਰਤਾ ਇਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਕੋ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਤੈ ਕਾਹੇ ਬਿਸਰਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ |
| dhukh harathaa eih bidhh ko suaamee thai kaahae bisaraaeiaa ||1|| |
| The Lord and Master removes suffering in this way - why have you forgotten Him? ||1|| |
|
| ਜਬ ਹੀ ਸਰਨਿ ਗਹੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਿਧਿ ਗਜ ਗਰਾਹ ਤੇ ਛੂਟਾ ॥ |
| jab hee saran gehee kirapaa nidhh gaj garaah thae shhoottaa || |
| As soon as the elephant took to the protective Sanctuary of the Lord, the ocean of mercy, he escaped from the crocodile. |
|
| ਮਹਮਾ ਨਾਮ ਕਹਾ ਲਉ ਬਰਨਉ ਰਾਮ ਕਹਤ ਬੰਧਨ ਤਿਹ ਤੂਟਾ ॥੨॥ |
| mehamaa naam kehaa lo barano raam kehath bandhhan thih thoottaa ||2|| |
| How much can I describe the Glorious Praises of the Naam? Whoever chants the Lord's Name, his bonds are broken. ||2|| |
|
| ਅਜਾਮਲੁ ਪਾਪੀ ਜਗੁ ਜਾਨੇ ਨਿਮਖ ਮਾਹਿ ਨਿਸਤਾਰਾ ॥ |
| ajaamal paapee jag jaanae nimakh maahi nisathaaraa || |
| Ajaamal, known throughout the world as a sinner, was redeemed in an instant. |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਕਹਤ ਚੇਤ ਚਿੰਤਾਮਨਿ ਤੈ ਭੀ ਉਤਰਹਿ ਪਾਰਾ ॥੩॥੪॥ |
| naanak kehath chaeth chinthaaman thai bhee outharehi paaraa ||3||4|| |
| Says Nanak, remember the Chintaamani, the jewel which fulfills all desires, and you too shall be carried across and saved. ||3||4|| |

| jaa thae bhagath raam kee paavai jam ko thraas harai ||1|| rehaao || |
| to attain devotional worship of the Lord, and eradicate the fear of death? ||1||Pause|| |

| ਕਉਨੁ ਕਰਮ ਬਿਦਿਆ ਕਹੁ ਕੈਸੀ ਧਰਮੁ ਕਉਨੁ ਫੁਨਿ ਕਰਈ ॥ |
| koun karam bidhiaa kahu kaisee dhharam koun fun karee || |
| Which actions, what sort of knowledge, and what religion - what Dharma should one practice? |
