| In this Dark Age of Kali Yuga, the Name of the One Lord is the treasure of mercy; chanting it, one obtains salvation. |

| ਅਉਰ ਧਰਮ ਤਾ ਕੈ ਸਮ ਨਾਹਨਿ ਇਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਬੇਦੁ ਬਤਾਵੈ ॥੨॥ |
| aour dhharam thaa kai sam naahan eih bidhh baedh bathaavai ||2|| |
| No other religion is comparable to this; so speak the Vedas. ||2|| |

| ਸੁਖੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਰਹਤ ਸਦਾ ਨਿਰਲੇਪੀ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਕਹਤ ਗੁਸਾਈ ॥ |
| sukh dhukh rehath sadhaa niralaepee jaa ko kehath gusaaee || |
| He is beyond pain and pleasure, forever unattached; He is called the Lord of the world. |

| ਸੋ ਤੁਮ ਹੀ ਮਹਿ ਬਸੈ ਨਿਰੰਤਰਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਰਪਨਿ ਨਿਆਈ ॥੩॥੫॥ |

| He dwells deep within your inner self, O Nanak, like the image in a mirror. ||3||5|| |

| O mother, how can I see the Lord of the world? |

| ਮਹਾ ਮੋਹ ਅਗਿਆਨਿ ਤਿਮਰਿ ਮੋ ਮਨੁ ਰਹਿਓ ਉਰਝਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| mehaa moh agiaan thimar mo man rehiou ourajhaaee ||1|| rehaao || |
| In the utter darkness of emotional attachment and spiritual ignorance, my mind remains entangled. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਸਗਲ ਜਨਮ ਭਰਮ ਹੀ ਭਰਮ ਖੋਇਓ ਨਹ ਅਸਥਿਰੁ ਮਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥ |
| sagal janam bharam hee bharam khoeiou neh asathhir math paaee || |
| Deluded by doubt, I have wasted my whole life; I have not obtained a stable intellect. |

| ਬਿਖਿਆਸਕਤ ਰਹਿਓ ਨਿਸ ਬਾਸੁਰ ਨਹ ਛੂਟੀ ਅਧਮਾਈ ॥੧॥ |
| bikhiaasakath rehiou nis baasur neh shhoottee adhhamaaee ||1|| |
| I remain under the influence of corrupting sins, night and day, and I have not renounced wickedness. ||1|| |

| ਸਾਧਸੰਗੁ ਕਬਹੂ ਨਹੀ ਕੀਨਾ ਨਹ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਗਾਈ ॥ |
| saadhhasang kabehoo nehee keenaa neh keerath prabh gaaee || |
| I never joined the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, and I did not sing the Kirtan of God's Praises. |

| ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਮੈ ਨਾਹਿ ਕੋਊ ਗੁਨੁ ਰਾਖਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਸਰਨਾਈ ॥੨॥੬॥ |
| jan naanak mai naahi kooo gun raakh laehu saranaaee ||2||6|| |
| O servant Nanak, I have no virtues at all; keep me in Your Sanctuary, Lord. ||2||6|| |

| ਨਿਸ ਬਾਸੁਰ ਬਿਖਿਅਨ ਕਉ ਧਾਵਤ ਕਿਹਿ ਬਿਧਿ ਰੋਕਉ ਤਾਹਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| nis baasur bikhian ko dhhaavath kihi bidhh roko thaahi ||1|| rehaao || |
| Night and day, it runs after sin and corruption. How can I restrain it? ||1||Pause|| |

| ਬੇਦ ਪੁਰਾਨ ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਕੇ ਮਤ ਸੁਨਿ ਨਿਮਖ ਨ ਹੀਏ ਬਸਾਵੈ ॥ |
| baedh puraan simrith kae math sun nimakh n heeeae basaavai || |
| He listens to the teachings of the Vedas, the Puraanas and the Simritees, but he does not enshrine them in his heart, even for an instant. |

| ਪਰ ਧਨ ਪਰ ਦਾਰਾ ਸਿਉ ਰਚਿਓ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਸਿਰਾਵੈ ॥੧॥ |
| par dhhan par dhaaraa sio rachiou birathhaa janam siraavai ||1|| |
| Engrossed in the wealth and women of others, his life passes away uselessly. ||1|| |
|
| ਮਦਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਕੈ ਭਇਓ ਬਾਵਰੋ ਸੂਝਤ ਨਹ ਕਛੁ ਗਿਆਨਾ ॥ |
| madh maaeiaa kai bhaeiou baavaro soojhath neh kashh giaanaa || |
| He has gone insane with the wine of Maya, and does not understand even a bit of spiritual wisdom. |

| ਜਬ ਹੀ ਸਰਨਿ ਸਾਧ ਕੀ ਆਇਓ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਗਲ ਬਿਨਾਸੀ ॥ |
| jab hee saran saadhh kee aaeiou dhuramath sagal binaasee || |
| When I came to the Sanctuary of the Holy Saints, all my evil-mindedness was dispelled. |
|
| ਤਬ ਨਾਨਕ ਚੇਤਿਓ ਚਿੰਤਾਮਨਿ ਕਾਟੀ ਜਮ ਕੀ ਫਾਸੀ ॥੩॥੭॥ |
| thab naanak chaethiou chinthaaman kaattee jam kee faasee ||3||7|| |
| Then, O Nanak, I remembered the Chintaamani, the jewel which fulfills all desires, and the noose of Death was snapped. ||3||7|| |

| ਸਗਲ ਜਗਤੁ ਹੈ ਜੈਸੇ ਸੁਪਨਾ ਬਿਨਸਤ ਲਗਤ ਨ ਬਾਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| sagal jagath hai jaisae supanaa binasath lagath n baar ||1|| rehaao || |
| The whole world is just like a dream; it will pass away in an instant. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਬਾਰੂ ਭੀਤਿ ਬਨਾਈ ਰਚਿ ਪਚਿ ਰਹਤ ਨਹੀ ਦਿਨ ਚਾਰਿ ॥ |
| baaroo bheeth banaaee rach pach rehath nehee dhin chaar || |
| Like a wall of sand, built up and plastered with great care, which does not last even a few days, |

| ਤੈਸੇ ਹੀ ਇਹ ਸੁਖ ਮਾਇਆ ਕੇ ਉਰਝਿਓ ਕਹਾ ਗਵਾਰ ॥੧॥ |
| thaisae hee eih sukh maaeiaa kae ourajhiou kehaa gavaar ||1|| |
| just so are the pleasures of Maya. Why are you entangled in them, you ignorant fool? ||1|| |
|
| ਅਜਹੂ ਸਮਝਿ ਕਛੁ ਬਿਗਰਿਓ ਨਾਹਿਨਿ ਭਜਿ ਲੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੁਰਾਰਿ ॥ |
| ajehoo samajh kashh bigariou naahin bhaj lae naam muraar || |
| Understand this today - it is not yet too late! Chant and vibrate the Name of the Lord. |

| ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਿਜ ਮਤੁ ਸਾਧਨ ਕਉ ਭਾਖਿਓ ਤੋਹਿ ਪੁਕਾਰਿ ॥੨॥੮॥ |

| Says Nanak, this is the subtle wisdom of the Holy Saints, which I proclaim out loud to you. ||2||8|| |

| ਸਗਲ ਜਗਤੁ ਅਪਨੈ ਸੁਖਿ ਲਾਗਿਓ ਦੁਖ ਮੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| sagal jagath apanai sukh laagiou dhukh mai sang n hoee ||1|| rehaao || |
| The whole world is attached to its own pleasures, and when trouble comes, no one is with you. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਦਾਰਾ ਮੀਤ ਪੂਤ ਸਨਬੰਧੀ ਸਗਰੇ ਧਨ ਸਿਉ ਲਾਗੇ ॥ |
| dhaaraa meeth pooth sanabandhhee sagarae dhhan sio laagae || |
| Wives, friends, children and relatives - all are attached to wealth. |
|
| ਜਬ ਹੀ ਨਿਰਧਨ ਦੇਖਿਓ ਨਰ ਕਉ ਸੰਗੁ ਛਾਡਿ ਸਭ ਭਾਗੇ ॥੧॥ |
| jab hee niradhhan dhaekhiou nar ko sang shhaadd sabh bhaagae ||1|| |
| When they see a poor man, they all forsake his company and run away. ||1|| |
|
| ਕਹਂਉ ਕਹਾ ਯਿਆ ਮਨ ਬਉਰੇ ਕਉ ਇਨ ਸਿਉ ਨੇਹੁ ਲਗਾਇਓ ॥ |
| kehano kehaa yiaa man bourae ko ein sio naehu lagaaeiou || |
| So what should I say to this crazy mind, which is affectionately attached to them? |

| ਦੀਨਾ ਨਾਥ ਸਕਲ ਭੈ ਭੰਜਨ ਜਸੁ ਤਾ ਕੋ ਬਿਸਰਾਇਓ ॥੨॥ |
| dheenaa naathh sakal bhai bhanjan jas thaa ko bisaraaeiou ||2|| |
| The Lord is the Master of the meek, the Destroyer of all fears, and I have forgotten to praise Him. ||2|| |
|
| ਸੁਆਨ ਪੂਛ ਜਿਉ ਭਇਓ ਨ ਸੂਧਉ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਜਤਨੁ ਮੈ ਕੀਨਉ ॥ |
| suaan pooshh jio bhaeiou n soodhho bahuth jathan mai keeno || |
| Like a dog's tail, which will never straighten out, the mind will not change, no matter how many things are tried. |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਲਾਜ ਬਿਰਦ ਕੀ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਤੁਹਾਰਉ ਲੀਨਉ ॥੩॥੯॥ |
| naanak laaj biradh kee raakhahu naam thuhaaro leeno ||3||9|| |
| Says Nanak, please, Lord, uphold the honor of Your innate nature; I chant Your Name. ||3||9|| |

| What is the use of shaving your head, and wearing saffron robes? ||1||Pause|| |

| saach shhaadd kai jhootheh laagiou janam akaarathh khoeiou || |
| Abandoning Truth, you cling to falsehood; your life is uselessly wasting away. |

| ਕਰਿ ਪਰਪੰਚ ਉਦਰ ਨਿਜ ਪੋਖਿਓ ਪਸੁ ਕੀ ਨਿਆਈ ਸੋਇਓ ॥੧॥ |
| kar parapanch oudhar nij pokhiou pas kee niaaee soeiou ||1|| |
| Practicing hypocrisy, you fill your belly, and then sleep like an animal. ||1|| |
|
| ਰਾਮ ਭਜਨ ਕੀ ਗਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਨੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਹਾਥਿ ਬਿਕਾਨਾ ॥ |
| raam bhajan kee gath nehee jaanee maaeiaa haathh bikaanaa || |
| You do not know the Way of the Lord's meditation; you have sold yourself into Maya's hands. |

| ਉਰਝਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਬਿਖਿਅਨ ਸੰਗਿ ਬਉਰਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਤਨੁ ਬਿਸਰਾਨਾ ॥੨॥ |
| ourajh rehiou bikhian sang bouraa naam rathan bisaraanaa ||2|| |
| The madman remains entangled in vice and corruption; he has forgotten the jewel of the Naam. ||2|| |

| ਰਹਿਓ ਅਚੇਤੁ ਨ ਚੇਤਿਓ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਅਉਧ ਸਿਰਾਨੀ ॥ |
| rehiou achaeth n chaethiou gobindh birathhaa aoudhh siraanee || |
| He remains thoughtless, not thinking of the Lord of the Universe; his life is uselessly passing away. |

| ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਰਦੁ ਪਛਾਨਉ ਭੂਲੇ ਸਦਾ ਪਰਾਨੀ ॥੩॥੧੦॥ |
| kahu naanak har biradh pashhaano bhoolae sadhaa paraanee ||3||10|| |
| Says Nanak, O Lord, please, confirm your innate nature; this mortal is continually making mistakes. ||3||10|| |

| sukh sanaehu ar bhai nehee jaa kai kanchan maattee maanai ||1|| rehaao || |
| who is not affected by pleasure, affection or fear, and who looks alike upon gold and dust;||1||Pause|| |

| ਨਹ ਨਿੰਦਿਆ ਨਹ ਉਸਤਤਿ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਲੋਭੁ ਮੋਹੁ ਅਭਿਮਾਨਾ ॥ |
| neh nindhiaa neh ousathath jaa kai lobh mohu abhimaanaa || |
| Who is not swayed by either slander or praise, nor affected by greed, attachment or pride; |

| ਹਰਖ ਸੋਗ ਤੇ ਰਹੈ ਨਿਆਰਉ ਨਾਹਿ ਮਾਨ ਅਪਮਾਨਾ ॥੧॥ |

| who remains unaffected by joy and sorrow, honor and dishonor;||1|| |
