ਤੂ ਗੁਣਦਾਤੌ ਨਿਰਮਲੋ ਭਾਈ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਨਾ ਮਨੁ ਹੋਇ ॥ |
thoo gunadhaatha niramalo bhaaee niramal naa man hoe || |
You are the Giver of virtue, O Immaculate Lord, but my mind is not immaculate, O Siblings of Destiny. |

ਹਮ ਅਪਰਾਧੀ ਨਿਰਗੁਣੇ ਭਾਈ ਤੁਝ ਹੀ ਤੇ ਗੁਣੁ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥ |
ham aparaadhhee niragunae bhaaee thujh hee thae gun soe ||1|| |
I am a worthless sinner, O Siblings of Destiny; virtue is obtained from You alone, Lord. ||1|| |

ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮਾ ਤੂ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਖੁ ॥ |
maerae preethamaa thoo karathaa kar vaekh || |
O my Beloved Creator Lord, You create, and You behold. |

ਬਿਖੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਚਿਤੁ ਮੋਹਿਆ ਭਾਈ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ਪਤਿ ਖੋਇ ॥ |
bikh maaeiaa chith mohiaa bhaaee chathuraaee path khoe || |
The poisonous Maya has enticed the consciousness, O Siblings of Destiny; through clever tricks, one loses his honor. |

ਚਿਤ ਮਹਿ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਸਚਿ ਵਸੈ ਭਾਈ ਜੇ ਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਸਮੋਇ ॥੨॥ |
chith mehi thaakur sach vasai bhaaee jae gur giaan samoe ||2|| |
The True Lord and Master abides in the consciousness, O Siblings of Destiny, if the Guru's spiritual wisdom permeates it. ||2|| |

ਰੂੜੌ ਰੂੜੌ ਆਖੀਐ ਭਾਈ ਰੂੜੌ ਲਾਲ ਚਲੂਲੁ ॥ |
roorra roorra aakheeai bhaaee roorra laal chalool || |
Beautiful, beautiful, the Lord is called, O Siblings of Destiny; beautiful, like the deep crimson color of the poppy. |

ਜੇ ਮਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਬੈਰਾਗੀਐ ਭਾਈ ਦਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਸਾਚੁ ਅਭੂਲੁ ॥੩॥ |
jae man har sio bairaageeai bhaaee dhar ghar saach abhool ||3|| |
If man loves the Lord with detachment, O Siblings of Destiny, he is judged to be true and infallible in the Lord's court and home. ||3|| |
|
ਪਾਤਾਲੀ ਆਕਾਸਿ ਤੂ ਭਾਈ ਘਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਤੂ ਗੁਣ ਗਿਆਨੁ ॥ |
paathaalee aakaas thoo bhaaee ghar ghar thoo gun giaan || |
You are pervading the realms of the underworld and the heavenly skies; Your wisdom and glories are in each and every heart. |

ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਭਾਈ ਚੂਕਾ ਮਨਹੁ ਗੁਮਾਨੁ ॥੪॥ |
gur miliai sukh paaeiaa bhaaee chookaa manahu gumaan ||4|| |
Meeting with the Guru, one finds peace, O Siblings of Destiny, and pride is dispelled from the mind. ||4|| |

ਜਲਿ ਮਲਿ ਕਾਇਆ ਮਾਜੀਐ ਭਾਈ ਭੀ ਮੈਲਾ ਤਨੁ ਹੋਇ ॥ |
jal mal kaaeiaa maajeeai bhaaee bhee mailaa than hoe || |
Scrubbing with water, the body can be cleaned, O Siblings of Destiny, but the body becomes dirty again. |

ਗਿਆਨਿ ਮਹਾ ਰਸਿ ਨਾਈਐ ਭਾਈ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੫॥ |
giaan mehaa ras naaeeai bhaaee man than niramal hoe ||5|| |
Bathing in the supreme essence of spiritual wisdom, O Siblings of Destiny, the mind and body become pure. ||5|| |
|
ਦੇਵੀ ਦੇਵਾ ਪੂਜੀਐ ਭਾਈ ਕਿਆ ਮਾਗਉ ਕਿਆ ਦੇਹਿ ॥ |
dhaevee dhaevaa poojeeai bhaaee kiaa maago kiaa dhaehi || |
Why worship gods and goddesses, O Siblings of Destiny? What can we ask of them? What can they give us? |

ਪਾਹਣੁ ਨੀਰਿ ਪਖਾਲੀਐ ਭਾਈ ਜਲ ਮਹਿ ਬੂਡਹਿ ਤੇਹਿ ॥੬॥ |
paahan neer pakhaaleeai bhaaee jal mehi booddehi thaehi ||6|| |
The stone gods are washed with water, O Siblings of Destiny, but they just sink in the water. ||6|| |

ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਲਖੁ ਨ ਲਖੀਐ ਭਾਈ ਜਗੁ ਬੂਡੈ ਪਤਿ ਖੋਇ ॥ |
gur bin alakh n lakheeai bhaaee jag booddai path khoe || |
Without the Guru, the unseen Lord cannot be seen, O Siblings of Destiny; the world is drowning, having lost its honor. |

ਮੇਰੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਹਾਥਿ ਵਡਾਈਆ ਭਾਈ ਜੈ ਭਾਵੈ ਤੈ ਦੇਇ ॥੭॥ |
maerae thaakur haathh vaddaaeeaa bhaaee jai bhaavai thai dhaee ||7|| |
Greatness is in the hands of my Lord and Master, O Siblings of Destiny; as He is pleased, He gives. ||7|| |

ਬਈਅਰਿ ਬੋਲੈ ਮੀਠੁਲੀ ਭਾਈ ਸਾਚੁ ਕਹੈ ਪਿਰ ਭਾਇ ॥ |
beear bolai meethulee bhaaee saach kehai pir bhaae || |
That soul-bride, who talks sweetly and speaks the Truth, O Siblings of Destiny, becomes pleasing to her Husband Lord. |

ਬਿਰਹੈ ਬੇਧੀ ਸਚਿ ਵਸੀ ਭਾਈ ਅਧਿਕ ਰਹੀ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਇ ॥੮॥ |
birehai baedhhee sach vasee bhaaee adhhik rehee har naae ||8|| |
Pierced by His Love, she abides in Truth, O Siblings of Destiny, deeply imbued with the Lord's Name. ||8|| |
|
ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਆਖੈ ਆਪਣਾ ਭਾਈ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਬੁਝੈ ਸੁਜਾਨੁ ॥ |
sabh ko aakhai aapanaa bhaaee gur thae bujhai sujaan || |
Everyone calls God his own, O Siblings of Destiny, but the all-knowing Lord is known only through the Guru. |
|
ਜੋ ਬੀਧੇ ਸੇ ਊਬਰੇ ਭਾਈ ਸਬਦੁ ਸਚਾ ਨੀਸਾਨੁ ॥੯॥ |
jo beedhhae sae oobarae bhaaee sabadh sachaa neesaan ||9|| |
Those who are pierced by His Love are saved, O Siblings of Destiny; they bear the Insignia of the True Word of the Shabad. ||9|| |
|
ਈਧਨੁ ਅਧਿਕ ਸਕੇਲੀਐ ਭਾਈ ਪਾਵਕੁ ਰੰਚਕ ਪਾਇ ॥ |
eedhhan adhhik sakaeleeai bhaaee paavak ranchak paae || |
A large pile of firewood, O Siblings of Destiny, will burn if a small fire is applied. |

ਖਿਨੁ ਪਲੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਵਸੈ ਭਾਈ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਿਲਣੁ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥੧੦॥੪॥ |
khin pal naam ridhai vasai bhaaee naanak milan subhaae ||10||4|| |
In the same way, if the Naam, the Name of the Lord, dwells in the heart for a moment, even for an instant, O Siblings of Destiny, then one meets the Lord with ease, O Nanak. ||10||4|| |

ਭਗਤਾ ਦੀ ਸਦਾ ਤੂ ਰਖਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਧੁਰਿ ਤੂ ਰਖਦਾ ਆਇਆ ॥ |
bhagathaa dhee sadhaa thoo rakhadhaa har jeeo dhhur thoo rakhadhaa aaeiaa || |
You always preserve the honor of Your devotees, O Dear Lord; You have protected them from the very beginning of time. |

ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦ ਜਨ ਤੁਧੁ ਰਾਖਿ ਲਏ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਹਰਣਾਖਸੁ ਮਾਰਿ ਪਚਾਇਆ ॥ |
prehilaadh jan thudhh raakh leae har jeeo haranaakhas maar pachaaeiaa || |
You protected Your servant Prahlaad, O Dear Lord, and annihilated Harnaakhash. |

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾ ਨੋ ਪਰਤੀਤਿ ਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ |
guramukhaa no paratheeth hai har jeeo manamukh bharam bhulaaeiaa ||1|| |
The Gurmukhs place their faith in the Dear Lord, but the self-willed manmukhs are deluded by doubt. ||1|| |
|
ਹਰਿ ਜੀ ਏਹ ਤੇਰੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥ |
har jee eaeh thaeree vaddiaaee || |
O Dear Lord, this is Your Glory. |
|
ਭਗਤਾ ਕੀ ਪੈਜ ਰਖੁ ਤੂ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਭਗਤ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
bhagathaa kee paij rakh thoo suaamee bhagath thaeree saranaaee || rehaao || |
You preserve the honor of Your devotees, O Lord Master; Your devotees seek Your Sanctuary. ||Pause|| |
|
ਭਗਤਾ ਨੋ ਜਮੁ ਜੋਹਿ ਨ ਸਾਕੈ ਕਾਲੁ ਨ ਨੇੜੈ ਜਾਈ ॥ |
bhagathaa no jam johi n saakai kaal n naerrai jaaee || |
The Messenger of Death cannot touch Your devotees; death cannot even approach them. |

ਕੇਵਲ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਨਾਮੇ ਹੀ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥ |
kaeval raam naam man vasiaa naamae hee mukath paaee || |
The Name of the Lord alone abides in their minds; through the Naam, the Name of the Lord, they find liberation. |

ਰਿਧਿ ਸਿਧਿ ਸਭ ਭਗਤਾ ਚਰਣੀ ਲਾਗੀ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਈ ॥੨॥ |
ridhh sidhh sabh bhagathaa charanee laagee gur kai sehaj subhaaee ||2|| |
Wealth and all the spiritual powers of the Siddhis fall at the feet of the Lord's devotees; they obtain peace and poise from the Guru. ||2|| |
|
ਮਨਮੁਖਾ ਨੋ ਪਰਤੀਤਿ ਨ ਆਵੀ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਲੋਭ ਸੁਆਉ ॥ |
manamukhaa no paratheeth n aavee anthar lobh suaao || |
The self-willed manmukhs have no faith; they are filled with greed and self-interest. |
|
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਸਬਦੁ ਨ ਭੇਦਿਓ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਨ ਲਾਗਾ ਭਾਉ ॥ |
guramukh hiradhai sabadh n bhaedhiou har naam n laagaa bhaao || |
They are not Gurmukh - they do not understand the Word of the Shabad in their hearts; they do not love the Naam, the Name of the Lord. |

ਕੂੜ ਕਪਟ ਪਾਜੁ ਲਹਿ ਜਾਸੀ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਫੀਕਾ ਅਲਾਉ ॥੩॥ |
koorr kapatt paaj lehi jaasee manamukh feekaa alaao ||3|| |
Their masks of falsehood and hypocrisy shall fall off; the self-willed manmukhs speak with insipid words. ||3|| |
|
ਭਗਤਾ ਵਿਚਿ ਆਪਿ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਹੂ ਤੂ ਜਾਤਾ ॥ |
bhagathaa vich aap varathadhaa prabh jee bhagathee hoo thoo jaathaa || |
You are pervading through Your devotees, O Dear God; through Your devotees, You are known. |

ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਮਨਸਾ ਮਨਹਿ ਸਮਾਣੀ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਤਾ ॥੪॥ |
houmai maar manasaa manehi samaanee gur kai sabadh pashhaathaa ||4|| |
Overcoming my egotism and quieting the desires within my mind, I have come to realize the Word of the Guru's Shabad. ||4|| |

ਅਚਿੰਤ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਜਿਨ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਿਆਰਾ ॥ |
achinth kanm karehi prabh thin kae jin har kaa naam piaaraa || |
God automatically does the work of those who love the Name of the Lord. |

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਸਦਾ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਸਭਿ ਕਾਜ ਸਵਾਰਣਹਾਰਾ ॥ |
gur parasaadh sadhaa man vasiaa sabh kaaj savaaranehaaraa || |
By Guru's Grace, he ever dwells in their minds, and He resolves all their affairs. |

ਓਨਾ ਕੀ ਰੀਸ ਕਰੇ ਸੁ ਵਿਗੁਚੈ ਜਿਨ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਹੈ ਰਖਵਾਰਾ ॥੫॥ |
ounaa kee rees karae s viguchai jin har prabh hai rakhavaaraa ||5|| |
Whoever challenges them is destroyed; they have the Lord God as their Savior. ||5|| |

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਭਉਕਿ ਮੁਏ ਬਿਲਲਾਈ ॥ |
bin sathigur saevae kinai n paaeiaa manamukh bhouk mueae bilalaaee || |
Without serving the True Guru, no one finds the Lord; the self-willed manmukhs die crying out in pain. |
|
ਆਵਹਿ ਜਾਵਹਿ ਠਉਰ ਨ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਦੁਖ ਮਹਿ ਦੁਖਿ ਸਮਾਈ ॥ |
aavehi jaavehi thour n paavehi dhukh mehi dhukh samaaee || |
They come and go, and find no place of rest; in pain and suffering, they perish. |
|
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀਵੈ ਸਹਜੇ ਸਾਚਿ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੬॥ |
guramukh hovai s anmrith peevai sehajae saach samaaee ||6|| |
But one who becomes Gurmukh drinks in the Ambrosial Nectar, and is easily absorbed in the True Name. ||6|| |

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਜਨਮੁ ਨ ਛੋਡੈ ਜੇ ਅਨੇਕ ਕਰਮ ਕਰੈ ਅਧਿਕਾਈ ॥ |
bin sathigur saevae janam n shhoddai jae anaek karam karai adhhikaaee || |
Without serving the True Guru, one cannot escape reincarnation, even by performing numerous rituals. |

ਵੇਦ ਪੜਹਿ ਤੈ ਵਾਦ ਵਖਾਣਹਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਪਤਿ ਗਵਾਈ ॥ |
vaedh parrehi thai vaadh vakhaanehi bin har path gavaaee || |
Those who read the Vedas, and argue and debate without the Lord, lose their honor. |

ਸਚਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸਾਚੀ ਜਿਸੁ ਬਾਣੀ ਭਜਿ ਛੂਟਹਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥੭॥ |
sachaa sathigur saachee jis baanee bhaj shhoottehi gur saranaaee ||7|| |
True is the True Guru, and True is the Word of His Bani; in the Guru's Sanctuary, one is saved. ||7|| |

ਜਿਨ ਹਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਸੇ ਦਰਿ ਸਾਚੇ ਦਰਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਸਚਿਆਰਾ ॥ |
jin har man vasiaa sae dhar saachae dhar saachai sachiaaraa || |
Those whose minds are filled with the Lord are judged as true in the Court of the Lord; they are hailed as true in the True Court. |

ਓਨਾ ਦੀ ਸੋਭਾ ਜੁਗਿ ਜੁਗਿ ਹੋਈ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਮੇਟਣਹਾਰਾ ॥ |
ounaa dhee sobhaa jug jug hoee koe n maettanehaaraa || |
Their praises echo throughout the ages, and no one can erase them. |

ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਨ ਕੈ ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੈ ਜਿਨ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਖਿਆ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰਾ ॥੮॥੧॥ |
naanak thin kai sadh balihaarai jin har raakhiaa our dhhaaraa ||8||1|| |
Nanak is forever a sacrifice to those who enshrine the Lord within their hearts. ||8||1|| |
