| jo sathigur thae muh firae thinaa thour n thaao || |
| Those who turn their faces away from the True Guru, shall find no place of rest or shelter. |

| ਜਿਉ ਛੁਟੜਿ ਘਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਫਿਰੈ ਦੁਹਚਾਰਣਿ ਬਦਨਾਉ ॥ |
| jio shhuttarr ghar ghar firai dhuhachaaran badhanaao || |
| They wander around from door to door, like a woman forsaken, with a bad character and a bad reputation. |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬਖਸੀਅਹਿ ਸੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਉ ॥੨॥ |

| jo saevehi sath muraar sae bhavajal thar gaeiaa || |
| Those who serve the True Lord, the Destroyer of ego, cross over the terrifying world-ocean. |

| ਜੋ ਬੋਲਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਉ ਤਿਨ ਜਮੁ ਛਡਿ ਗਇਆ ॥ |
| jo bolehi har har naao thin jam shhadd gaeiaa || |
| Those who chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, are passed over by the Messenger of Death. |

| ਸੇ ਦਰਗਹ ਪੈਧੇ ਜਾਹਿ ਜਿਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿ ਲਇਆ ॥ |
| sae dharageh paidhhae jaahi jinaa har jap laeiaa || |
| Those who meditate on the Lord, go to His Court in robes of honor. |
|
| ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਸੇਈ ਪੁਰਖ ਜਿਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਤੁਧੁ ਮਇਆ ॥ |
| har saevehi saeee purakh jinaa har thudhh maeiaa || |
| They alone serve You, O Lord, whom You bless with Grace. |

| ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਾ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਨਿਤ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਭ੍ਰਮ ਭਉ ਗਇਆ ॥੭॥ |
| gun gaavaa piaarae nith guramukh bhram bho gaeiaa ||7|| |
| I sing continually Your Glorious Praises, O Beloved; as Gurmukh, my doubts and fears have been dispelled. ||7|| |

| ਥਾਲੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਤੈ ਵਸਤੂ ਪਈਓ ਹਰਿ ਭੋਜਨੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਸਾਰੁ ॥ |
| thhaalai vich thai vasathoo peeou har bhojan anmrith saar || |
| Upon the plate, three things have been placed; this is the sublime, ambrosial food of the Lord. |
|
| ਜਿਤੁ ਖਾਧੈ ਮਨੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤੀਐ ਪਾਈਐ ਮੋਖ ਦੁਆਰੁ ॥ |
| jith khaadhhai man thripatheeai paaeeai mokh dhuaar || |
| Eating this, the mind is satisfied, and the Door of Salvation is found. |
|
| ਇਹੁ ਭੋਜਨੁ ਅਲਭੁ ਹੈ ਸੰਤਹੁ ਲਭੈ ਗੁਰ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥ |
| eihu bhojan alabh hai santhahu labhai gur veechaar || |
| It is so difficult to obtain this food, O Saints; it is obtained only by contemplating the Guru. |

| ਏਹ ਮੁਦਾਵਣੀ ਕਿਉ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਕਢੀਐ ਸਦਾ ਰਖੀਐ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰਿ ॥ |
| eaeh mudhaavanee kio vichahu kadteeai sadhaa rakheeai our dhhaar || |
| Why should we cast this riddle out of our minds? We should keep it ever enshrined in our hearts. |
|
| ਏਹ ਮੁਦਾਵਣੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਈ ਗੁਰਸਿਖਾ ਲਧੀ ਭਾਲਿ ॥ |
| eaeh mudhaavanee sathiguroo paaee gurasikhaa ladhhee bhaal || |
| The True Guru has posed this riddle. The Guru's Sikhs have found its solution. |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਸੁ ਬੁਝਾਏ ਸੁ ਬੁਝਸੀ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਘਾਲਿ ॥੧॥ |
| naanak jis bujhaaeae s bujhasee har paaeiaa guramukh ghaal ||1|| |
| O Nanak, he alone understands this, whom the Lord inspires to understand. The Gurmukhs work hard, and find the Lord. ||1|| |

| jo dhhur maelae sae mil rehae sathigur sio chith laae || |
| Those whom the Primal Lord unites, remain in Union with Him; they focus their consciousness on the True Guru. |
|
| ਆਪਿ ਵਿਛੋੜੇਨੁ ਸੇ ਵਿਛੁੜੇ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਖੁਆਇ ॥ |
| aap vishhorraen sae vishhurrae dhoojai bhaae khuaae || |
| Those whom the Lord Himself separates, remain separated; in the love of duality, they are ruined. |
|
| ਨਾਨਕ ਵਿਣੁ ਕਰਮਾ ਕਿਆ ਪਾਈਐ ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਕਮਾਇ ॥੨॥ |
| naanak vin karamaa kiaa paaeeai poorab likhiaa kamaae ||2|| |
| O Nanak, without good karma, what can anyone obtain? He earns what he is pre-destined to receive. ||2|| |

| Sitting together, the companions sing the Songs of the Lord's Praises. |
|
| ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਲਾਹਿਹੁ ਨਿਤ ਹਰਿ ਕਉ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀਆ ॥ |
| har naam salaahihu nith har ko balihaareeaa || |
| They praise the Lord's Name continually; they are a sacrifice to the Lord. |
|
| ਜਿਨੀ ਸੁਣਿ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਉ ਤਿਨਾ ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀਆ ॥ |
| jinee sun manniaa har naao thinaa ho vaareeaa || |
| Those who hear, and believe in the Lord's Name, to them I am a sacrifice. |
|
| ਗੁਰਮੁਖੀਆ ਹਰਿ ਮੇਲੁ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਹਾਰੀਆ ॥ |
| guramukheeaa har mael milaavanehaareeaa || |
| O Lord, let me unite with the Gurmukhs, who are united with You. |
|
| ਹਉ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਵਾ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤਿ ਗੁਰ ਦੇਖਣਹਾਰੀਆ ॥੮॥ |
| ho bal jaavaa dhin raath gur dhaekhanehaareeaa ||8|| |
| I am a sacrifice to those who, day and night, behold their Guru. ||8|| |
|
| ਵਿਣੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਸਭਿ ਭਰਮਦੇ ਨਿਤ ਜਗਿ ਤੋਟਾ ਸੈਸਾਰਿ ॥ |
| vin naavai sabh bharamadhae nith jag thottaa saisaar || |
| Without the Name of the Lord, everyone wanders around the world, losing. |
|
| ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਵਣੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਅੰਧੁ ਗੁਬਾਰੁ ॥ |
| manamukh karam kamaavanae houmai andhh gubaar || |
| The self-willed manmukhs do their deeds in the pitch black darkness of egotism. |
|
| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀਵਣਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥੧॥ |
| guramukh anmrith peevanaa naanak sabadh veechaar ||1|| |
| The Gurmukhs drink in the Ambrosial Nectar, O Nanak, contemplating the Word of the Shabad. ||1|| |

| ਸਹਜੇ ਜਾਗੈ ਸਹਜੇ ਸੋਵੈ ॥ |
| sehajae jaagai sehajae sovai || |
| He wakes in peace, and he sleeps in peace. |

| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਉਸਤਤਿ ਹੋਵੈ ॥ |
| guramukh anadhin ousathath hovai || |
| The Gurmukh praises the Lord night and day. |
|
| ਮਨਮੁਖ ਭਰਮੈ ਸਹਸਾ ਹੋਵੈ ॥ |
| manamukh bharamai sehasaa hovai || |
| The self-willed manmukh remains deluded by his doubts. |
|
| ਅੰਤਰਿ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਨੀਦ ਨ ਸੋਵੈ ॥ |
| anthar chinthaa needh n sovai || |
| He is filled with anxiety, and he cannot even sleep. |
|
| ਗਿਆਨੀ ਜਾਗਹਿ ਸਵਹਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥ |
| giaanee jaagehi savehi subhaae || |
| The spiritually wise wake and sleep in peace. |
|
| ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤਿਆ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਉ ॥੨॥ |
| naanak naam rathiaa bal jaao ||2|| |
| Nanak is a sacrifice to those who are imbued with the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||2|| |

| They alone meditate on the Lord's Name, who are imbued with the Lord. |

| ਹਰਿ ਇਕੁ ਧਿਆਵਹਿ ਇਕੁ ਇਕੋ ਹਰਿ ਸਤਿਆ ॥ |
| har eik dhhiaavehi eik eiko har sathiaa || |
| They meditate on the One Lord; the One and Only Lord is True. |
|
| ਹਰਿ ਇਕੋ ਵਰਤੈ ਇਕੁ ਇਕੋ ਉਤਪਤਿਆ ॥ |
| har eiko varathai eik eiko outhapathiaa || |
| The One Lord is pervading everywhere; the One Lord created the Universe. |
|
| ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਵਹਿ ਤਿਨ ਡਰੁ ਸਟਿ ਘਤਿਆ ॥ |
| jo har naam dhhiaavehi thin ddar satt ghathiaa || |
| Those who meditate on the Lord's Name, cast out their fears. |
|
| ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਦੇਵੈ ਆਪਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿਆ ॥੯॥ |
| guramathee dhaevai aap guramukh har japiaa ||9|| |
| The Lord Himself blesses them with Guru's Instruction; the Gurmukh meditates on the Lord. ||9|| |

| ਅੰਤਰਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਨ ਆਇਓ ਜਿਤੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਇ ॥ |
| anthar giaan n aaeiou jith kishh sojhee paae || |
| Spiritual wisdom, which would bring understanding, does not enter into his mind. |
|
| ਵਿਣੁ ਡਿਠਾ ਕਿਆ ਸਾਲਾਹੀਐ ਅੰਧਾ ਅੰਧੁ ਕਮਾਇ ॥ |
| vin ddithaa kiaa saalaaheeai andhhaa andhh kamaae || |
| Without seeing, how can he praise the Lord? The blind act in blindness. |
|
| ਨਾਨਕ ਸਬਦੁ ਪਛਾਣੀਐ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥੧॥ |
| naanak sabadh pashhaaneeai naam vasai man aae ||1|| |
| O Nanak, when one realizes the Word of the Shabad, then the Naam comes to abide in the mind. ||1|| |
