ਅੰਤਰਿ ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ਭਈ ਮਤਿ ਮਧਿਮ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਪਰਤੀਤਿ ਨਾਹੀ ॥ |
anthar agiaan bhee math madhhim sathigur kee paratheeth naahee || |
He has spiritual ignorance within, and his intellect is dull and dim; he does not place his faith in the True Guru. |

ਅੰਦਰਿ ਕਪਟੁ ਸਭੁ ਕਪਟੋ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਕਪਟੇ ਖਪਹਿ ਖਪਾਹੀ ॥ |
andhar kapatt sabh kapatto kar jaanai kapattae khapehi khapaahee || |
He has deceit within himself, and so he sees deception in all others; through his deceptions, he is totally ruined. |

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਭਾਣਾ ਚਿਤਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਆਪਣੈ ਸੁਆਇ ਫਿਰਾਹੀ ॥ |
sathigur kaa bhaanaa chith n aavai aapanai suaae firaahee || |
The True Guru's Will does not enter into his consciousness, and so he wanders around, pursuing his own interests. |

ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਜੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਤਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਮਾਹੀ ॥੧॥ |
kirapaa karae jae aapanee thaa naanak sabadh samaahee ||1|| |
If He grants His Grace, then Nanak is absorbed into the Word of the Shabad. ||1|| |

manamukh maaeiaa mohi viaapae dhoojai bhaae manooaa thhir naahi || |
The self-willed manmukhs are engrossed in emotional attachment to Maya; in the love of duality, their minds are unsteady. |

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਜਲਤ ਰਹਹਿ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਖਪਹਿ ਖਪਾਹਿ ॥ |
anadhin jalath rehehi dhin raathee houmai khapehi khapaahi || |
Night and day, they are burning; day and night, they are totally ruined by their egotism. |

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਲੋਭੁ ਮਹਾ ਗੁਬਾਰਾ ਤਿਨ ਕੈ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਜਾਹਿ ॥ |
anthar lobh mehaa gubaaraa thin kai nikatt n koee jaahi || |
Within them, is the total pitch darkness of greed, and no one even approaches them. |

ਓਇ ਆਪਿ ਦੁਖੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਕਬਹੂ ਨ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਜਨਮਿ ਮਰਹਿ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਹਿ ॥ |
oue aap dhukhee sukh kabehoo n paavehi janam marehi mar jaahi || |
They themselves are miserable, and they never find peace; they are born, only to die, and die again. |

ਨਾਨਕ ਬਖਸਿ ਲਏ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਜਿ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਨੀ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਹਿ ॥੨॥ |
naanak bakhas leae prabh saachaa j gur charanee chith laahi ||2|| |
O Nanak, the True Lord God forgives those, who focus their consciousness on the Guru's feet. ||2|| |

That Saint, that devotee, is acceptable, who is loved by God. |
|
ਸੇਈ ਬਿਚਖਣ ਜੰਤ ਜਿਨੀ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥ |
saeee bichakhan janth jinee har dhhiaaeiaa || |
Those beings are wise, who meditate on the Lord. |
|
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਭੋਜਨੁ ਖਾਇਆ ॥ |
anmrith naam nidhhaan bhojan khaaeiaa || |
They eat the food, the treasure of the Ambrosial Naam, the Name of the Lord. |

ਨਾਨਕ ਭਏ ਪੁਨੀਤ ਹਰਿ ਤੀਰਥਿ ਨਾਇਆ ॥੨੬॥ |
naanak bheae puneeth har theerathh naaeiaa ||26|| |
O Nanak, they are purified, bathing in the sacred shrine of the Lord. ||26|| |

guramukh anthar saanth hai man than naam samaae || |
Within the Gurmukh is peace and tranquility; his mind and body are absorbed in the Naam, the Name of the Lord. |

ਨਾਮੋ ਚਿਤਵੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਪੜੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਹੈ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥ |
naamo chithavai naam parrai naam rehai liv laae || |
He contemplates the Naam, he studies the Naam, and he remains lovingly absorbed in the Naam. |

ਨਾਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਗਈ ਬਿਲਾਇ ॥ |
naam padhaarathh paaeiaa chinthaa gee bilaae || |
He obtains the treasure of the Naam, and his anxiety is dispelled. |

ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਨਾਮੁ ਊਪਜੈ ਤਿਸਨਾ ਭੁਖ ਸਭ ਜਾਇ ॥ |
sathigur miliai naam oopajai thisanaa bhukh sabh jaae || |
Meeting with the Guru, the Naam wells up, and his thirst and hunger are completely relieved. |

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੇ ਰਤਿਆ ਨਾਮੋ ਪਲੈ ਪਾਇ ॥੧॥ |
naanak naamae rathiaa naamo palai paae ||1|| |
O Nanak, imbued with the Naam, he gathers in the Naam. ||1|| |

sathigur purakh j maariaa bhram bhramiaa ghar shhodd gaeiaa || |
One who is cursed by the True Guru, abandons his home, and wanders around aimlessly. |

ਓਸੁ ਪਿਛੈ ਵਜੈ ਫਕੜੀ ਮੁਹੁ ਕਾਲਾ ਆਗੈ ਭਇਆ ॥ |
ous pishhai vajai fakarree muhu kaalaa aagai bhaeiaa || |
He is jeered at, and his face is blackened in the world hereafter. |
|
ਓਸੁ ਅਰਲੁ ਬਰਲੁ ਮੁਹਹੁ ਨਿਕਲੈ ਨਿਤ ਝਗੂ ਸੁਟਦਾ ਮੁਆ ॥ |
ous aral baral muhahu nikalai nith jhagoo suttadhaa muaa || |
He babbles incoherently, and foaming at the mouth, he dies. |

ਕਿਆ ਹੋਵੈ ਕਿਸੈ ਹੀ ਦੈ ਕੀਤੈ ਜਾਂ ਧੁਰਿ ਕਿਰਤੁ ਓਸ ਦਾ ਏਹੋ ਜੇਹਾ ਪਇਆ ॥ |
kiaa hovai kisai hee dhai keethai jaan dhhur kirath ous dhaa eaeho jaehaa paeiaa || |
What can anyone do? Such is his destiny, according to his past deeds. |

ਜਿਥੈ ਓਹੁ ਜਾਇ ਤਿਥੈ ਓਹੁ ਝੂਠਾ ਕੂੜੁ ਬੋਲੇ ਕਿਸੈ ਨ ਭਾਵੈ ॥ |
jithhai ouhu jaae thithhai ouhu jhoothaa koorr bolae kisai n bhaavai || |
Wherever he goes, he is a liar, and by telling lies, he not liked by anyone. |

ਵੇਖਹੁ ਭਾਈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਹਰਿ ਸੰਤਹੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਕੀ ਜੈਸਾ ਕੋਈ ਕਰੈ ਤੈਸਾ ਕੋਈ ਪਾਵੈ ॥ |
vaekhahu bhaaee vaddiaaee har santhahu suaamee apunae kee jaisaa koee karai thaisaa koee paavai || |
O Siblings of Destiny, behold this, the glorious greatness of our Lord and Master, O Saints; as one behaves, so does he receive. |

ਏਹੁ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਦਰਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਅਗੋ ਦੇ ਜਨੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਆਖਿ ਸੁਣਾਵੈ ॥੨॥ |
eaehu breham beechaar hovai dhar saachai ago dhae jan naanak aakh sunaavai ||2|| |
This shall be God's determination in His True Court; servant Nanak predicts and proclaims this. ||2|| |

The True Guru has established the village; the Guru has appointed its guards and protectors. |

ਪੂਰਨ ਹੋਈ ਆਸ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਣੀ ਮਨ ਰਤੇ ॥ |
pooran hoee aas gur charanee man rathae || |
My hopes are fulfilled, and my mind is imbued with the love of the Guru's Feet. |
|
ਗੁਰਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲਿ ਬੇਅੰਤਿ ਅਵਗੁਣ ਸਭਿ ਹਤੇ ॥ |
gur kirapaal baeanth avagun sabh hathae || |
The Guru is infinitely merciful; He has erased all my sins. |

ਗੁਰਿ ਅਪਣੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰਿ ਅਪਣੇ ਕਰਿ ਲਿਤੇ ॥ |
gur apanee kirapaa dhhaar apanae kar lithae || |
The Guru has showered me with His Mercy, and He has made me His own. |

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰ ਜਿਸੁ ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਇਤੇ ॥੨੭॥ |
naanak sadh balihaar jis gur kae gun eithae ||27|| |
Nanak is forever a sacrifice to the Guru, who has countless virtues. ||27|| |

By His Command, we receive our pre-ordained rewards; so what can we do now, O Pandit? |

ਹੁਕਮੁ ਹੋਆ ਹਾਸਲੁ ਤਦੇ ਹੋਇ ਨਿਬੜਿਆ ਹੰਢਹਿ ਜੀਅ ਕਮਾਂਦੇ ॥੧॥ |
hukam hoaa haasal thadhae hoe nibarriaa handtehi jeea kamaandhae ||1|| |
When His Command is received, then it is decided; all beings move and act accordingly. ||1|| |

jehaa dhaanae thehaan khaanae naanakaa sach hae ||2|| |
Wherever his food is, there he eats it; O Nanak, this is the Truth. ||2|| |

ਆਪੇ ਰਚਨੁ ਰਚਾਇ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਘਾਲਿਓਨੁ ॥ |
aapae rachan rachaae aapae hee ghaalioun || |
He Himself created the creation, and He Himself destroys it. |

ਆਪੇ ਜੰਤ ਉਪਾਇ ਆਪਿ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲਿਓਨੁ ॥ |
aapae janth oupaae aap prathipaalioun || |
He Himself fashions His creatures, and He Himself nourishes them. |

ਦਾਸ ਰਖੇ ਕੰਠਿ ਲਾਇ ਨਦਰਿ ਨਿਹਾਲਿਓਨੁ ॥ |
dhaas rakhae kanth laae nadhar nihaalioun || |
He hugs His slaves close in His embrace, and blesses them with His Glance of Grace. |

ਨਾਨਕ ਭਗਤਾ ਸਦਾ ਅਨੰਦੁ ਭਾਉ ਦੂਜਾ ਜਾਲਿਓਨੁ ॥੨੮॥ |
naanak bhagathaa sadhaa anandh bhaao dhoojaa jaalioun ||28|| |
O Nanak, His devotees are forever in bliss; they have burnt away the love of duality. ||28|| |

O mind, meditate on the Dear Lord, with single-minded conscious concentration. |

ਹਰਿ ਕੀਆ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਵਡਿਆਈਆ ਦੇਇ ਨ ਪਛੋਤਾਇ ॥ |
har keeaa sadhaa sadhaa vaddiaaeeaa dhaee n pashhothaae || |
The glorious greatness of the Lord shall last forever and ever; He never regrets what He gives. |
