| The fool does not chant the Name of the Lord. |

| ਇਕ ਬਸਤੁ ਅਗੋਚਰ ਲਹੀਐ ॥ |
| eik basath agochar leheeai || |
| to find the incomprehensible thing. |

| ਬਸਤੁ ਅਗੋਚਰ ਪਾਈ ॥ |
| basath agochar paaee || |
| I have found this incomprehensible thing; |

| ਘਟਿ ਦੀਪਕੁ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੨॥ |
| ghatt dheepak rehiaa samaaee ||2|| |
| my mind is illuminated and enlightened. ||2|| |

| ਕਹਿ ਕਬੀਰ ਅਬ ਜਾਨਿਆ ॥ |
| kehi kabeer ab jaaniaa || |
| Says Kabeer, now I know Him; |

| ਜਬ ਜਾਨਿਆ ਤਉ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ॥ |
| jab jaaniaa tho man maaniaa || |
| since I know Him, my mind is pleased and appeased. |
|
| ਮਨ ਮਾਨੇ ਲੋਗੁ ਨ ਪਤੀਜੈ ॥ |
| man maanae log n patheejai || |
| My mind is pleased and appeased, and yet, people do not believe it. |
|
| ਨ ਪਤੀਜੈ ਤਉ ਕਿਆ ਕੀਜੈ ॥੩॥੭॥ |
| n patheejai tho kiaa keejai ||3||7|| |
| They do not believe it, so what can I do? ||3||7|| |

| ਹ੍ਰਿਦੈ ਕਪਟੁ ਮੁਖ ਗਿਆਨੀ ॥ |
| hridhai kapatt mukh giaanee || |
| In his heart there is deception, and yet in his mouth are words of wisdom. |
|
| ਝੂਠੇ ਕਹਾ ਬਿਲੋਵਸਿ ਪਾਨੀ ॥੧॥ |
| jhoothae kehaa bilovas paanee ||1|| |
| You are false - why are you churning water? ||1|| |
|
| ਕਾਂਇਆ ਮਾਂਜਸਿ ਕਉਨ ਗੁਨਾਂ ॥ |
| kaaneiaa maanjas koun gunaan || |
| Why do you bother to wash your body? |
|
| ਜਉ ਘਟ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਹੈ ਮਲਨਾਂ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| jo ghatt bheethar hai malanaan ||1|| rehaao || |
| Your heart is still full of filth. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਲਉਕੀ ਅਠਸਠਿ ਤੀਰਥ ਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਈ ॥ |
| loukee athasath theerathh nhaaee || |
| The gourd may be washed at the sixty-eight sacred shrines, |
|
| ਕਉਰਾਪਨੁ ਤਊ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥੨॥ |
| kouraapan thoo n jaaee ||2|| |
| but even then, its bitterness is not removed. ||2|| |

| ਕਹਿ ਕਬੀਰ ਬੀਚਾਰੀ ॥ |
| kehi kabeer beechaaree || |
| Says Kabeer after deep contemplation, |

| please help me cross over the terrifying world-ocean, O Lord, O Destroyer of ego. ||3||8|| |

| ਬਹੁ ਪਰਪੰਚ ਕਰਿ ਪਰ ਧਨੁ ਲਿਆਵੈ ॥ |
| bahu parapanch kar par dhhan liaavai || |
| Practicing great hypocrisy, he acquires the wealth of others. |
|
| ਸੁਤ ਦਾਰਾ ਪਹਿ ਆਨਿ ਲੁਟਾਵੈ ॥੧॥ |
| suth dhaaraa pehi aan luttaavai ||1|| |
| Returning home, he squanders it on his wife and children. ||1|| |
|
| ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਭੂਲੇ ਕਪਟੁ ਨ ਕੀਜੈ ॥ |
| man maerae bhoolae kapatt n keejai || |
| O my mind, do not practice deception, even inadvertently. |

| ਅੰਤਿ ਨਿਬੇਰਾ ਤੇਰੇ ਜੀਅ ਪਹਿ ਲੀਜੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| anth nibaeraa thaerae jeea pehi leejai ||1|| rehaao || |
| In the end, your own soul shall have to answer for its account. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਛਿਨੁ ਛਿਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਛੀਜੈ ਜਰਾ ਜਨਾਵੈ ॥ |
| shhin shhin than shheejai jaraa janaavai || |
| Moment by moment, the body is wearing away, and old age is asserting itself. |
|
| ਤਬ ਤੇਰੀ ਓਕ ਕੋਈ ਪਾਨੀਓ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੨॥ |
| thab thaeree ouk koee paaneeou n paavai ||2|| |
| And then, when you are old, no one shall pour water into your cup. ||2|| |

| ਕਹਤੁ ਕਬੀਰੁ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀ ਤੇਰਾ ॥ |
| kehath kabeer koee nehee thaeraa || |
| Says Kabeer, no one belongs to you. |

| ਹਿਰਦੈ ਰਾਮੁ ਕੀ ਨ ਜਪਹਿ ਸਵੇਰਾ ॥੩॥੯॥ |
| hiradhai raam kee n japehi savaeraa ||3||9|| |
| Why not chant the Lord's Name in your heart, when you are still young? ||3||9|| |

| ਸੰਤਹੁ ਮਨ ਪਵਨੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਬਨਿਆ ॥ |
| santhahu man pavanai sukh baniaa || |
| O Saints, my windy mind has now become peaceful and still. |

| ਕਿਛੁ ਜੋਗੁ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਗਨਿਆ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| kishh jog paraapath ganiaa || rehaao || |
| It seems that I have learned something of the science of Yoga. ||Pause|| |

| ਗੁਰਿ ਦਿਖਲਾਈ ਮੋਰੀ ॥ |

| The Guru has shown me the hole, |

| ਜਿਤੁ ਮਿਰਗ ਪੜਤ ਹੈ ਚੋਰੀ ॥ |
| jith mirag parrath hai choree || |
| through which the deer carefully enters. |

| ਮੂੰਦਿ ਲੀਏ ਦਰਵਾਜੇ ॥ |
| moondh leeeae dharavaajae || |
| I have now closed off the doors, |
|
| ਬਾਜੀਅਲੇ ਅਨਹਦ ਬਾਜੇ ॥੧॥ |
| baajeealae anehadh baajae ||1|| |
| and the unstruck celestial sound current resounds. ||1|| |

| ਕੁੰਭ ਕਮਲੁ ਜਲਿ ਭਰਿਆ ॥ |
| kunbh kamal jal bhariaa || |
| The pitcher of my heart-lotus is filled with water; |
|
| ਜਲੁ ਮੇਟਿਆ ਊਭਾ ਕਰਿਆ ॥ |
| jal maettiaa oobhaa kariaa || |
| I have spilled out the water, and set it upright. |
|
| ਕਹੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਜਨ ਜਾਨਿਆ ॥ |
| kahu kabeer jan jaaniaa || |
| Says Kabeer, the Lord's humble servant, this I know. |

| ਜਉ ਜਾਨਿਆ ਤਉ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ॥੨॥੧੦॥ |
| jo jaaniaa tho man maaniaa ||2||10|| |
| Now that I know this, my mind is pleased and appeased. ||2||10|| |

| I am so hungry, I cannot perform devotional worship service. |

| ਯਹ ਮਾਲਾ ਅਪਨੀ ਲੀਜੈ ॥ |
| yeh maalaa apanee leejai || |
| Here, Lord, take back Your mala. |

| ਹਉ ਮਾਂਗਉ ਸੰਤਨ ਰੇਨਾ ॥ |
| ho maango santhan raenaa || |
| I beg for the dust of the feet of the Saints. |

| ਮੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਿਸੀ ਕਾ ਦੇਨਾ ॥੧॥ |
| mai naahee kisee kaa dhaenaa ||1|| |
| I do not owe anyone anything. ||1|| |
|
| ਮਾਧੋ ਕੈਸੀ ਬਨੈ ਤੁਮ ਸੰਗੇ ॥ |
| maadhho kaisee banai thum sangae || |
| O Lord, how can I be with You? |

| ਆਪਿ ਨ ਦੇਹੁ ਤ ਲੇਵਉ ਮੰਗੇ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| aap n dhaehu th laevo mangae || rehaao || |
| If You do not give me Yourself, then I shall beg until I get You. ||Pause|| |

| ਦੁਇ ਸੇਰ ਮਾਂਗਉ ਚੂਨਾ ॥ |
| dhue saer maango choonaa || |
| I ask for two kilos of flour, |
|
| ਪਾਉ ਘੀਉ ਸੰਗਿ ਲੂਨਾ ॥ |
| paao gheeo sang loonaa || |
| and half a pound of ghee, and salt. |

| ਅਧ ਸੇਰੁ ਮਾਂਗਉ ਦਾਲੇ ॥ |
| adhh saer maango dhaalae || |
| I ask for a pound of beans, |
|
| ਮੋ ਕਉ ਦੋਨਉ ਵਖਤ ਜਿਵਾਲੇ ॥੨॥ |
| mo ko dhono vakhath jivaalae ||2|| |
| which I shall eat twice a day. ||2|| |
|
| ਖਾਟ ਮਾਂਗਉ ਚਉਪਾਈ ॥ |
| khaatt maango choupaaee || |
| I ask for a cot, with four legs, |
|
| ਸਿਰਹਾਨਾ ਅਵਰ ਤੁਲਾਈ ॥ |
| sirehaanaa avar thulaaee || |
| and a pillow and mattress. |
