| The Lord and Master destroys the pain of the poor; He preserves and protects the honor of His servants. |

| tharan thaaran har nidhh dhookh n sakai biaap ||1|| |
| The Lord is the ship to carry us across; He is the treasure of virtue - pain cannot touch Him. ||1|| |

| saadhhoo sang bhajahu gupaal || |
| In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, meditate, vibrate upon the Lord of the world. |

| ਆਨ ਸੰਜਮ ਕਿਛੁ ਨ ਸੂਝੈ ਇਹ ਜਤਨ ਕਾਟਿ ਕਲਿ ਕਾਲ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| aan sanjam kishh n soojhai eih jathan kaatt kal kaal || rehaao || |
| I cannot think of any other way; make this effort, and make it in this Dark Age of Kali Yuga. ||Pause|| |

| ਆਦਿ ਅੰਤਿ ਦਇਆਲ ਪੂਰਨ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨਾ ਨਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥ |
| aadh anth dhaeiaal pooran this binaa nehee koe || |
| In the beginning, and in the end, there is none other than the perfect, merciful Lord. |

| ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਨਿਵਾਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਸੋਇ ॥੨॥ |
| janam maran nivaar har jap simar suaamee soe ||2|| |
| The cycle of birth and death is ended, chanting the Lord's Name, and remembering the Lord Master in meditation. ||2|| |

| ਬੇਦ ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਕਥੈ ਸਾਸਤ ਭਗਤ ਕਰਹਿ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥ |
| baedh sinmrith kathhai saasath bhagath karehi beechaar || |
| The Vedas, the Simritees, the Shaastras and the Lord's devotees contemplate Him; |

| ਮੁਕਤਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਬਿਨਸਿ ਜਾਇ ਅੰਧਾਰੁ ॥੩॥ |
| mukath paaeeai saadhhasangath binas jaae andhhaar ||3|| |
| liberation is attained in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, and the darkness of ignorance is dispelled. ||3|| |

| Wandering and roaming around, I met the Holy Perfect Guru, who has taught me. |

| ਆਨ ਸਗਲ ਬਿਧਿ ਕਾਂਮਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥੧॥ |
| aan sagal bidhh kaanm n aavai har har naam dhhiaaeiaa ||1|| |
| All other devices did not work, so I meditate on the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. ||1|| |

| ਤਾ ਤੇ ਮੋਹਿ ਧਾਰੀ ਓਟ ਗੋਪਾਲ ॥ |
| thaa thae mohi dhhaaree outt gopaal || |
| For this reason, I sought the Protection and Support of my Lord, the Cherisher of the Universe. |

| ਸਰਨਿ ਪਰਿਓ ਪੂਰਨ ਪਰਮੇਸੁਰ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਸਗਲ ਜੰਜਾਲ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |

| I sought the Sanctuary of the Perfect Transcendent Lord, and all my entanglements were dissolved. ||Pause|| |

| Paradise, the earth, the nether regions of the underworld, and the globe of the world - all are engrossed in Maya. |

| ਜੀਅ ਉਧਾਰਨ ਸਭ ਕੁਲ ਤਾਰਨ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ॥੨॥ |
| jeea oudhhaaran sabh kul thaaran har har naam dhhiaae ||2|| |
| To save your soul, and liberate all your ancestors, meditate on the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. ||2|| |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਗਾਈਐ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਰਬ ਨਿਧਾਨਾ ॥ |
| naanak naam niranjan gaaeeai paaeeai sarab nidhhaanaa || |
| O Nanak, singing the Naam, the Name of the Immaculate Lord, all treasures are obtained. |

| ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਜਿਸੁ ਦੇਇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਬਿਰਲੇ ਕਾਹੂ ਜਾਨਾ ॥੩॥੩॥੨੧॥ |
| kar kirapaa jis dhaee suaamee biralae kaahoo jaanaa ||3||3||21|| |
| Only that rare person, whom the Lord and Master blesses with His Grace, comes to know this. ||3||3||21|| |

| You shall have to abandon the straw which you have collected. |

| ਕਾਮਿ ਨ ਆਵਹਿ ਸੇ ਜੰਜਾਲ ॥ |
| kaam n aavehi sae janjaal || |
| These entanglements shall be of no use to you. |
|
| ਸੰਗਿ ਨ ਚਾਲਹਿ ਤਿਨ ਸਿਉ ਹੀਤ ॥ |
| sang n chaalehi thin sio heeth || |
| You are in love with those things that will not go with you. |
|
| ਜੋ ਬੈਰਾਈ ਸੇਈ ਮੀਤ ॥੧॥ |
| jo bairaaee saeee meeth ||1|| |
| You think that your enemies are friends. ||1|| |
|
| ਐਸੇ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲੇ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥ |
| aisae bharam bhulae sansaaraa || |
| In such confusion, the world has gone astray. |
|
| ਜਨਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਖੋਇ ਗਵਾਰਾ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| janam padhaarathh khoe gavaaraa || rehaao || |
| The foolish mortal wastes this precious human life. ||Pause|| |
|
| ਸਾਚੁ ਧਰਮੁ ਨਹੀ ਭਾਵੈ ਡੀਠਾ ॥ |
| saach dhharam nehee bhaavai ddeethaa || |
| He does not like to see Truth and righteousness. |
|
| ਝੂਠ ਧੋਹ ਸਿਉ ਰਚਿਓ ਮੀਠਾ ॥ |
| jhooth dhhoh sio rachiou meethaa || |
| He is attached to falsehood and deception; they seem sweet to him. |
|
| ਦਾਤਿ ਪਿਆਰੀ ਵਿਸਰਿਆ ਦਾਤਾਰਾ ॥ |
| dhaath piaaree visariaa dhaathaaraa || |
| He loves gifts, but he forgets the Giver. |
|
| ਜਾਣੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਮਰਣੁ ਵਿਚਾਰਾ ॥੨॥ |
| jaanai naahee maran vichaaraa ||2|| |
| The wretched creature does not even think of death. ||2|| |
|
| ਵਸਤੁ ਪਰਾਈ ਕਉ ਉਠਿ ਰੋਵੈ ॥ |
| vasath paraaee ko outh rovai || |
| He cries for the possessions of others. |
|
| ਕਰਮ ਧਰਮ ਸਗਲਾ ਈ ਖੋਵੈ ॥ |
| karam dhharam sagalaa ee khovai || |
| He forfeits all the merits of his good deeds and religion. |
|
| ਹੁਕਮੁ ਨ ਬੂਝੈ ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣੇ ॥ |
| hukam n boojhai aavan jaanae || |
| He does not understand the Hukam of the Lord's Command, and so he continues coming and going in reincarnation. |
|
| ਪਾਪ ਕਰੈ ਤਾ ਪਛੋਤਾਣੇ ॥੩॥ |
| paap karai thaa pashhothaanae ||3|| |
| He sins, and then regrets and repents. ||3|| |
|
| ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥ |
| jo thudhh bhaavai so paravaan || |
| Whatever pleases You, Lord, that alone is acceptable. |
|
| ਤੇਰੇ ਭਾਣੇ ਨੋ ਕੁਰਬਾਣੁ ॥ |
| thaerae bhaanae no kurabaan || |
| I am a sacrifice to Your Will. |
|
| ਨਾਨਕੁ ਗਰੀਬੁ ਬੰਦਾ ਜਨੁ ਤੇਰਾ ॥ |
| naanak gareeb bandhaa jan thaeraa || |
| Poor Nanak is Your slave, Your humble servant. |

| I am meek and poor; the Name of God is my only Support. |

| ਖਾਟਣ ਕਉ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਰੋਜਗਾਰੁ ॥ |
| khaattan ko har har rojagaar || |
| The Name of the Lord, Har, Har, is my occupation and earnings. |
|
| ਸੰਚਣ ਕਉ ਹਰਿ ਏਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ॥ |
| sanchan ko har eaeko naam || |
| I gather only the Lord's Name. |
|
| ਹਲਤਿ ਪਲਤਿ ਤਾ ਕੈ ਆਵੈ ਕਾਮ ॥੧॥ |
| halath palath thaa kai aavai kaam ||1|| |
| It is useful in both this world and the next. ||1|| |
|
| ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਰੰਗਿ ਅਪਾਰ ॥ |
| naam rathae prabh rang apaar || |
| Imbued with the Love of the Lord God's Infinite Name, |
|
| ਸਾਧ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਗੁਣ ਏਕ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| saadhh gaavehi gun eaek nirankaar || rehaao || |
| the Holy Saints sing the Glorious Praises of the One Lord, the Formless Lord. ||Pause|| |

| ਸਾਧ ਕੀ ਸੋਭਾ ਅਤਿ ਮਸਕੀਨੀ ॥ |
| saadhh kee sobhaa ath masakeenee || |
| The Glory of the Holy Saints comes from their total humility. |
|
| ਸੰਤ ਵਡਾਈ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਚੀਨੀ ॥ |
| santh vaddaaee har jas cheenee || |
| The Saints realize that their greatness rests in the Praises of the Lord. |
|
| ਅਨਦੁ ਸੰਤਨ ਕੈ ਭਗਤਿ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ॥ |
| anadh santhan kai bhagath govindh || |
| Meditating on the Lord of the Universe, the Saints are in bliss. |
|
| ਸੂਖੁ ਸੰਤਨ ਕੈ ਬਿਨਸੀ ਚਿੰਦ ॥੨॥ |
| sookh santhan kai binasee chindh ||2|| |
| The Saints find peace, and their anxieties are dispelled. ||2|| |
|
| ਜਹ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਤਨ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਇਕਤ੍ਰ ॥ |
| jeh saadhh santhan hovehi eikathr || |
| Wherever the Holy Saints gather, |
