| bhaanddaa dhhoe bais dhhoop dhaevahu tho dhoodhhai ko jaavahu || |
| Wash the vessel, sit down and anoint it with fragrance; then, go out and get the milk. |

| ਦੂਧੁ ਕਰਮ ਫੁਨਿ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਸਮਾਇਣੁ ਹੋਇ ਨਿਰਾਸ ਜਮਾਵਹੁ ॥੧॥ |
| dhoodhh karam fun surath samaaein hoe niraas jamaavahu ||1|| |
| Add the rennet of clear consciousness to the milk of good deeds, and then, free of desire, let it curdle. ||1|| |

| Let your mind be the handles, and then churn it, without sleeping. |

| ਰਸਨਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਹੁ ਤਬ ਮਥੀਐ ਇਨ ਬਿਧਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪਾਵਹੁ ॥੨॥ |
| rasanaa naam japahu thab mathheeai ein bidhh anmrith paavahu ||2|| |
| If you chant the Naam, the Name of the Lord ,with your tongue, then the curd will be churned. In this way, the Ambrosial Nectar is obtained. ||2|| |

| ਮਨੁ ਸੰਪਟੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਸਤ ਸਰਿ ਨਾਵਣੁ ਭਾਵਨ ਪਾਤੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਕਰੇ ॥ |

| Wash your mind in the pool of Truth, and let it be the vessel of the Lord; let this be your offering to please Him. |

| poojaa praan saevak jae saevae einh bidhh saahib ravath rehai ||3|| |
| That humble servant who dedicates and offers his life, and who serves in this way, remains absorbed in his Lord and Master. ||3|| |

| ਕਹਦੇ ਕਹਹਿ ਕਹੇ ਕਹਿ ਜਾਵਹਿ ਤੁਮ ਸਰਿ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥ |
| kehadhae kehehi kehae kehi jaavehi thum sar avar n koee || |
| The speakers speak and speak and speak, and then they depart. There is no other to compare to You. |

| ਭਗਤਿ ਹੀਣੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਜਨੁ ਜੰਪੈ ਹਉ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ਸਚਾ ਸੋਈ ॥੪॥੧॥ |

| You have renounced the Ambrosial Nectar - why are you eating poison? ||1|| |

| Meditate on such spiritual wisdom, O my mind, |

| Everyone speaks of wisdom and meditation; |

| ਬਾਂਧਨਿ ਬਾਂਧਿਆ ਸਭੁ ਜਗੁ ਭਵੈ ॥੨॥ |
| baandhhan baandhhiaa sabh jag bhavai ||2|| |
| but bound in bondage, the whole world is wandering around in confusion. ||2|| |

| ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰੇ ਸੁ ਚਾਕਰੁ ਹੋਇ ॥ |

| One who serves the Lord is His servant. |

| ਜਲਿ ਥਲਿ ਮਹੀਅਲਿ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸੋਇ ॥੩॥ |

| The Lord is pervading and permeating the water, the land, and the sky. ||3|| |

| Bronze is bright and shiny, but when it is rubbed, its blackness appears. |

| ਧੋਤਿਆ ਜੂਠਿ ਨ ਉਤਰੈ ਜੇ ਸਉ ਧੋਵਾ ਤਿਸੁ ॥੧॥ |
| dhhothiaa jooth n outharai jae so dhhovaa this ||1|| |
| Washing it, its impurity is not removed, even if it is washed a hundred times. ||1|| |
|
| ਸਜਣ ਸੇਈ ਨਾਲਿ ਮੈ ਚਲਦਿਆ ਨਾਲਿ ਚਲੰਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ॥ |
| sajan saeee naal mai chaladhiaa naal chalannih || |
| They alone are my friends, who travel along with me; |

| ਜਿਥੈ ਲੇਖਾ ਮੰਗੀਐ ਤਿਥੈ ਖੜੇ ਦਿਸੰਨਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| jithhai laekhaa mangeeai thithhai kharrae dhisann ||1|| rehaao || |
| and in that place, where the accounts are called for, they appear standing with me. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਕੋਠੇ ਮੰਡਪ ਮਾੜੀਆ ਪਾਸਹੁ ਚਿਤਵੀਆਹਾ ॥ |
| kothae manddap maarreeaa paasahu chithaveeaahaa || |
| There are houses, mansions and tall buildings, painted on all sides; |

| ਢਠੀਆ ਕੰਮਿ ਨ ਆਵਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਸਖਣੀਆਹਾ ॥੨॥ |
| dtatheeaa kanm n aavanhee vichahu sakhaneeaahaa ||2|| |
| but they are empty within, and they crumble like useless ruins. ||2|| |
|
| ਬਗਾ ਬਗੇ ਕਪੜੇ ਤੀਰਥ ਮੰਝਿ ਵਸੰਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ॥ |
| bagaa bagae kaparrae theerathh manjh vasannih || |
| The herons in their white feathers dwell in the sacred shrines of pilgrimage. |

| ਘੁਟਿ ਘੁਟਿ ਜੀਆ ਖਾਵਣੇ ਬਗੇ ਨਾ ਕਹੀਅਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ॥੩॥ |
| ghutt ghutt jeeaa khaavanae bagae naa keheeanih ||3|| |
| They tear apart and eat the living beings, and so they are not called white. ||3|| |
|
| ਸਿੰਮਲ ਰੁਖੁ ਸਰੀਰੁ ਮੈ ਮੈਜਨ ਦੇਖਿ ਭੁਲੰਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ॥ |
| sinmal rukh sareer mai maijan dhaekh bhulannih || |
| My body is like the simmal tree; seeing me, other people are fooled. |
|
| ਸੇ ਫਲ ਕੰਮਿ ਨ ਆਵਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ਤੇ ਗੁਣ ਮੈ ਤਨਿ ਹੰਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ॥੪॥ |
| sae fal kanm n aavanhee thae gun mai than hannih ||4|| |
| Its fruits are useless - just like the qualities of my body. ||4|| |

| ਅੰਧੁਲੈ ਭਾਰੁ ਉਠਾਇਆ ਡੂਗਰ ਵਾਟ ਬਹੁਤੁ ॥ |
| andhhulai bhaar outhaaeiaa ddoogar vaatt bahuth || |
| The blind man is carrying such a heavy load, and his journey through the mountains is so long. |

| ਅਖੀ ਲੋੜੀ ਨਾ ਲਹਾ ਹਉ ਚੜਿ ਲੰਘਾ ਕਿਤੁ ॥੫॥ |
| akhee lorree naa lehaa ho charr langhaa kith ||5|| |
| My eyes can see, but I cannot find the Way. How can I climb up and cross over the mountain? ||5|| |
|
| ਚਾਕਰੀਆ ਚੰਗਿਆਈਆ ਅਵਰ ਸਿਆਣਪ ਕਿਤੁ ॥ |
| chaakareeaa changiaaeeaa avar siaanap kith || |
| What good does it do to serve, and be good, and be clever? |
|
| ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ਤੂੰ ਬਧਾ ਛੁਟਹਿ ਜਿਤੁ ॥੬॥੧॥੩॥ |
| naanak naam samaal thoon badhhaa shhuttehi jith ||6||1||3|| |
