| Build the raft of meditation and self-discipline, to carry you across the river. |

| ਨਾ ਸਰਵਰੁ ਨਾ ਊਛਲੈ ਐਸਾ ਪੰਥੁ ਸੁਹੇਲਾ ॥੧॥ |
| naa saravar naa ooshhalai aisaa panthh suhaelaa ||1|| |
| There will be no ocean, and no rising tides to stop you; this is how comfortable your path shall be. ||1|| |

| ਤੇਰਾ ਏਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੰਜੀਠੜਾ ਰਤਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਚੋਲਾ ਸਦ ਰੰਗ ਢੋਲਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| thaeraa eaeko naam manjeetharraa rathaa maeraa cholaa sadh rang dtolaa ||1|| rehaao || |
| Your Name alone is the color, in which the robe of my body is dyed. This color is permanent, O my Beloved. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਸਾਜਨ ਚਲੇ ਪਿਆਰਿਆ ਕਿਉ ਮੇਲਾ ਹੋਈ ॥ |
| saajan chalae piaariaa kio maelaa hoee || |
| My beloved friends have departed; how will they meet the Lord? |
|
| ਜੇ ਗੁਣ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਗੰਠੜੀਐ ਮੇਲੇਗਾ ਸੋਈ ॥੨॥ |
| jae gun hovehi gantharreeai maelaegaa soee ||2|| |
| If they have virtue in their pack, the Lord will unite them with Himself. ||2|| |
|
| ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹੋਇ ਨ ਵੀਛੁੜੈ ਜੇ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹੋਈ ॥ |
| miliaa hoe n veeshhurrai jae miliaa hoee || |
| Once united with Him, they will not be separated again, if they are truly united. |

| ਆਵਾ ਗਉਣੁ ਨਿਵਾਰਿਆ ਹੈ ਸਾਚਾ ਸੋਈ ॥੩॥ |
| aavaa goun nivaariaa hai saachaa soee ||3|| |
| The True Lord brings their comings and goings to an end. ||3|| |
|
| ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਨਿਵਾਰਿਆ ਸੀਤਾ ਹੈ ਚੋਲਾ ॥ |
| houmai maar nivaariaa seethaa hai cholaa || |
| One who subdues and eradicates egotism, sews the robe of devotion. |

| ਗੁਰ ਬਚਨੀ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਹ ਕੇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬੋਲਾ ॥੪॥ |
| gur bachanee fal paaeiaa seh kae anmrith bolaa ||4|| |
| Following the Word of the Guru's Teachings, she receives the fruits of her reward, the Ambrosial Words of the Lord. ||4|| |

| ਨਾਨਕੁ ਕਹੈ ਸਹੇਲੀਹੋ ਸਹੁ ਖਰਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ॥ |
| naanak kehai sehaeleeho sahu kharaa piaaraa || |
| Says Nanak, O soul-brides, our Husband Lord is so dear! |

| ਹਮ ਸਹ ਕੇਰੀਆ ਦਾਸੀਆ ਸਾਚਾ ਖਸਮੁ ਹਮਾਰਾ ॥੫॥੨॥੪॥ |
| ham seh kaereeaa dhaaseeaa saachaa khasam hamaaraa ||5||2||4|| |
| We are the servants, the hand-maidens of the Lord; He is our True Lord and Master. ||5||2||4|| |

| ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਭਾਂਡੈ ਭਾਉ ਤਿਨਾ ਸਵਾਰਸੀ ॥ |
| jin ko bhaanddai bhaao thinaa savaarasee || |
| Those whose minds are filled with love of the Lord, are blessed and exalted. |
|
| ਸੂਖੀ ਕਰੈ ਪਸਾਉ ਦੂਖ ਵਿਸਾਰਸੀ ॥ |
| sookhee karai pasaao dhookh visaarasee || |
| They are blessed with peace, and their pains are forgotten. |
|
| ਸਹਸਾ ਮੂਲੇ ਨਾਹਿ ਸਰਪਰ ਤਾਰਸੀ ॥੧॥ |
| sehasaa moolae naahi sarapar thaarasee ||1|| |
| He will undoubtedly, certainly save them. ||1|| |
|
| ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਗੁਰੁ ਆਇ ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਲੀਖਿਆ ॥ |
| thinhaa miliaa gur aae jin ko leekhiaa || |
| The Guru comes to meet those whose destiny is so pre-ordained. |
|
| ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਉ ਦੇਵੈ ਦੀਖਿਆ ॥ |
| anmrith har kaa naao dhaevai dheekhiaa || |
| He blesses them with the Teachings of the Ambrosial Name of the Lord. |
|
| ਚਾਲਹਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭਾਇ ਭਵਹਿ ਨ ਭੀਖਿਆ ॥੨॥ |
| chaalehi sathigur bhaae bhavehi n bheekhiaa ||2|| |
| Those who walk in the Will of the True Guru, never wander begging. ||2|| |
|
| ਜਾ ਕਉ ਮਹਲੁ ਹਜੂਰਿ ਦੂਜੇ ਨਿਵੈ ਕਿਸੁ ॥ |
| jaa ko mehal hajoor dhoojae nivai kis || |
| And one who lives in the Mansion of the Lord's Presence, why should he bow down to any other? |

| ਦਰਿ ਦਰਵਾਣੀ ਨਾਹਿ ਮੂਲੇ ਪੁਛ ਤਿਸੁ ॥ |
| dhar dharavaanee naahi moolae pushh this || |
| The gate-keeper at the Lord's Gate shall not stop him to ask any questions. |
|
| ਛੁਟੈ ਤਾ ਕੈ ਬੋਲਿ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨਦਰਿ ਜਿਸੁ ॥੩॥ |
| shhuttai thaa kai bol saahib nadhar jis ||3|| |
| And one who is blessed with the Lord's Glance of Grace - by his words, others are emancipated as well. ||3|| |
|
| ਘਲੇ ਆਣੇ ਆਪਿ ਜਿਸੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਦੂਜਾ ਮਤੈ ਕੋਇ ॥ |
| ghalae aanae aap jis naahee dhoojaa mathai koe || |
| The Lord Himself sends out, and recalls the mortal beings; no one else gives Him advice. |
|
| ਢਾਹਿ ਉਸਾਰੇ ਸਾਜਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਸਭ ਸੋਇ ॥ |
| dtaahi ousaarae saaj jaanai sabh soe || |
| He Himself demolishes, constructs and creates; He knows everything. |

| ਭਾਂਡਾ ਹਛਾ ਸੋਇ ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵਸੀ ॥ |
| bhaanddaa hashhaa soe jo this bhaavasee || |
| That vessel alone is pure, which is pleasing to Him. |
|
| ਭਾਂਡਾ ਅਤਿ ਮਲੀਣੁ ਧੋਤਾ ਹਛਾ ਨ ਹੋਇਸੀ ॥ |
| bhaanddaa ath maleen dhhothaa hashhaa n hoeisee || |
| The filthiest vessel does not become pure, simply by being washed. |
|
| ਗੁਰੂ ਦੁਆਰੈ ਹੋਇ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਇਸੀ ॥ |
| guroo dhuaarai hoe sojhee paaeisee || |
| Through the Gurdwara the Guru's Gate one obtains understanding. |
|
| ਏਤੁ ਦੁਆਰੈ ਧੋਇ ਹਛਾ ਹੋਇਸੀ ॥ |
| eaeth dhuaarai dhhoe hashhaa hoeisee || |
| By being washed through this Gate, it becomes pure. |
|
| ਮੈਲੇ ਹਛੇ ਕਾ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ਆਪਿ ਵਰਤਾਇਸੀ ॥ |
| mailae hashhae kaa veechaar aap varathaaeisee || |
| The Lord Himself sets the standards to differentiate between the dirty and the pure. |
|
| ਮਤੁ ਕੋ ਜਾਣੈ ਜਾਇ ਅਗੈ ਪਾਇਸੀ ॥ |
| math ko jaanai jaae agai paaeisee || |
| Do not think that you will automatically find a place of rest hereafter. |
|
| ਜੇਹੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਇ ਤੇਹਾ ਹੋਇਸੀ ॥ |
| jaehae karam kamaae thaehaa hoeisee || |
| According to the actions one has committed, so does the mortal become. |
|
| ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਉ ਆਪਿ ਵਰਤਾਇਸੀ ॥ |
| anmrith har kaa naao aap varathaaeisee || |
| He Himself bestows the Ambrosial Name of the Lord. |
|
| ਚਲਿਆ ਪਤਿ ਸਿਉ ਜਨਮੁ ਸਵਾਰਿ ਵਾਜਾ ਵਾਇਸੀ ॥ |
| chaliaa path sio janam savaar vaajaa vaaeisee || |
| Such a mortal departs with honor and renown; his life is embellished and redeemed, and the trumpets resound with his glory. |
|
| ਮਾਣਸੁ ਕਿਆ ਵੇਚਾਰਾ ਤਿਹੁ ਲੋਕ ਸੁਣਾਇਸੀ ॥ |
| maanas kiaa vaechaaraa thihu lok sunaaeisee || |
| Why speak of poor mortals? His glory shall echo throughout the three worlds. |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਆਪਿ ਨਿਹਾਲ ਸਭਿ ਕੁਲ ਤਾਰਸੀ ॥੧॥੪॥੬॥ |
| naanak aap nihaal sabh kul thaarasee ||1||4||6|| |
| O Nanak, he himself shall be enraptured, and he shall save his entire ancestry. ||1||4||6|| |

| The Yogi practices yoga, and the pleasure-seeker practices eating. |
|
| ਤਪੀਆ ਹੋਵੈ ਤਪੁ ਕਰੇ ਤੀਰਥਿ ਮਲਿ ਮਲਿ ਨਾਇ ॥੧॥ |
| thapeeaa hovai thap karae theerathh mal mal naae ||1|| |
| The austere practice austerities, bathing and rubbing themselves at sacred shrines of pilgrimage. ||1|| |
|
| ਤੇਰਾ ਸਦੜਾ ਸੁਣੀਜੈ ਭਾਈ ਜੇ ਕੋ ਬਹੈ ਅਲਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| thaeraa sadharraa suneejai bhaaee jae ko behai alaae ||1|| rehaao || |
| Let me hear some news of You, O Beloved; if only someone would come and sit with me, and tell me. ||1||Pause|| |
|
| ਜੈਸਾ ਬੀਜੈ ਸੋ ਲੁਣੇ ਜੋ ਖਟੇ ਸ+ ਖਾਇ ॥ |
| jaisaa beejai so lunae jo khattae suo khaae || |
| As one plants, so does he harvest; whatever he earns, he eats. |
|
| ਅਗੈ ਪੁਛ ਨ ਹੋਵਈ ਜੇ ਸਣੁ ਨੀਸਾਣੈ ਜਾਇ ॥੨॥ |
| agai pushh n hovee jae san neesaanai jaae ||2|| |
| In the world hereafter, his account is not called for, if he goes with the insignia of the Lord. ||2|| |
|
| ਤੈਸੋ ਜੈਸਾ ਕਾਢੀਐ ਜੈਸੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਇ ॥ |
| thaiso jaisaa kaadteeai jaisee kaar kamaae || |
| According to the actions the mortal commits, so is he proclaimed. |
|
| ਜੋ ਦਮੁ ਚਿਤਿ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਸੋ ਦਮੁ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਾਇ ॥੩॥ |
| jo dham chith n aavee so dham birathhaa jaae ||3|| |
| And that breath which is drawn without thinking of the Lord, that breath goes in vain. ||3|| |
|
| ਇਹੁ ਤਨੁ ਵੇਚੀ ਬੈ ਕਰੀ ਜੇ ਕੋ ਲਏ ਵਿਕਾਇ ॥ |
| eihu than vaechee bai karee jae ko leae vikaae || |
| I would sell this body, if someone would only purchase it. |
|
| ਨਾਨਕ ਕੰਮਿ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਜਿਤੁ ਤਨਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਸਚਾ ਨਾਉ ॥੪॥੫॥੭॥ |
| naanak kanm n aavee jith than naahee sachaa naao ||4||5||7|| |
| O Nanak, that body is of no use at all, if it does not enshrine the Name of the True Lord. ||4||5||7|| |

| jog n khinthhaa jog n ddanddai jog n bhasam charraaeeai || |
| Yoga is not the patched coat, Yoga is not the walking stick. Yoga is not smearing the body with ashes. |

| ਜੋਗੁ ਨ ਮੁੰਦੀ ਮੂੰਡਿ ਮੁਡਾਇਐ ਜੋਗੁ ਨ ਸਿੰਙੀ ਵਾਈਐ ॥ |
| jog n mundhee moondd muddaaeiai jog n sinn(g)ee vaaeeai || |
| Yoga is not the ear-rings, and not the shaven head. Yoga is not the blowing of the horn. |

| ਅੰਜਨ ਮਾਹਿ ਨਿਰੰਜਨਿ ਰਹੀਐ ਜੋਗ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਇਵ ਪਾਈਐ ॥੧॥ |
| anjan maahi niranjan reheeai jog jugath eiv paaeeai ||1|| |
| Remaining unblemished in the midst of the filth of the world - this is the way to attain Yoga. ||1|| |
