ham mail bharae dhuhachaareeaa har raakhahu angee ann(g) || |
I am full of filth, and I practice evil deeds; O Lord, save me, be with me, merge me into Your Being! |

ਗੁਰਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਸਰਿ ਨਵਲਾਇਆ ਸਭਿ ਲਾਥੇ ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਪੰਙੁ ॥੩॥ |
gur anmrith sar navalaaeiaa sabh laathhae kilavikh pann(g) ||3|| |
The Guru has bathed me in the pool of Ambrosial Nectar, and all my dirty sins and mistakes have been washed away. ||3|| |

ਹਰਿ ਦੀਨਾ ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਮੇਲਹੁ ਸੰਙੁ ॥ |
har dheenaa dheen dhaeiaal prabh sathasangath maelahu sann(g) || |
O Lord God, Merciful to the meek and the poor, please unite me with the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation. |

ਮਿਲਿ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਰੰਙੁ ॥੪॥੩॥ |
mil sangath har rang paaeiaa jan naanak man than rann(g) ||4||3|| |
Joining the Sangat, servant Nanak has obtained the Lord's Love; my mind and body are drenched in it. ||4||3|| |

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਨਿਤ ਕਪਟੁ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ਹਿਰਦਾ ਸੁਧੁ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥ |
har har karehi nith kapatt kamaavehi hiradhaa sudhh n hoee || |
One who chants the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, while constantly practicing deception, shall never become pure of heart. |

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਕਰਮ ਕਰਹਿ ਬਹੁਤੇਰੇ ਸੁਪਨੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥੧॥ |
anadhin karam karehi bahuthaerae supanai sukh n hoee ||1|| |
He may perform all sorts of rituals, night and day, but he shall not find peace, even in dreams. ||1|| |

ਗਿਆਨੀ ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥ |
giaanee gur bin bhagath n hoee || |
O wise ones, without the Guru, there is no devotional worship. |

ਕੋਰੈ ਰੰਗੁ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਚੜੈ ਜੇ ਲੋਚੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
korai rang kadhae n charrai jae lochai sabh koee ||1|| rehaao || |
The untreated cloth does not take up the dye, no matter how much everyone may wish it. ||1||Pause|| |

ਜਪੁ ਤਪ ਸੰਜਮ ਵਰਤ ਕਰੇ ਪੂਜਾ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਰੋਗੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥ |
jap thap sanjam varath karae poojaa manamukh rog n jaaee || |
The self-willed manmukh may perform chants, meditations, austere self-discipline, fasts and devotional worship, but his sickness does not go away. |

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਰੋਗੁ ਮਹਾ ਅਭਿਮਾਨਾ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਖੁਆਈ ॥੨॥ |
anthar rog mehaa abhimaanaa dhoojai bhaae khuaaee ||2|| |
Deep within him is the sickness of excessive egotism; in the love of duality he is ruined. ||2|| |

ਬਾਹਰਿ ਭੇਖ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ਮਨੂਆ ਦਹ ਦਿਸਿ ਧਾਵੈ ॥ |
baahar bhaekh bahuth chathuraaee manooaa dheh dhis dhhaavai || |
Outwardly, he wears religious robes and he is very clever, but his mind wanders in the ten directions. |

ਹਉਮੈ ਬਿਆਪਿਆ ਸਬਦੁ ਨ ਚੀਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੈ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਜੂਨੀ ਆਵੈ ॥੩॥ |
houmai biaapiaa sabadh n cheenhai fir fir joonee aavai ||3|| |
Engrossed in ego, he does not remember the Word of the Shabad; over and over again, he is reincarnated. ||3|| |
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਸੋ ਬੂਝੈ ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਏ ॥ |
naanak nadhar karae so boojhai so jan naam dhhiaaeae || |
O Nanak, that mortal who is blessed with the Lord's Glance of Grace, understands Him; that humble servant meditates on the Naam, the Name of the Lord. |

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਏਕੋ ਬੂਝੈ ਏਕਸੁ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਏ ॥੪॥੪॥ |
gur parasaadhee eaeko boojhai eaekas maahi samaaeae ||4||4|| |
By Guru's Grace, he understands the One Lord, and is absorbed into the One Lord. ||4||4|| |

Following the Guru's Teachings, I searched and searched the body-village; |

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਪਾਈ ॥੧॥ |
har har naam padhaarathh paaee ||1|| |
I found the wealth of the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. ||1|| |

ਮੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਵਸਾਈ ॥ |
maerai man har har saanth vasaaee || |
The Lord, Har, Har, has enshrined peace within my mind. |

ਤਿਸਨਾ ਅਗਨਿ ਬੁਝੀ ਖਿਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਸਭ ਭੁਖ ਗਵਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
thisanaa agan bujhee khin anthar gur miliai sabh bhukh gavaaee ||1|| rehaao || |
The fire of desire was extinguished in an instant, when I met the Guru; all my hunger has been satisfied. ||1||Pause|| |

ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਾ ਜੀਵਾ ਮੇਰੀ ਮਾਈ ॥ |
har gun gaavaa jeevaa maeree maaee || |
Singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, I live, O my mother. |

ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਦਇਆਲਿ ਗੁਣ ਨਾਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਈ ॥੨॥ |
sathigur dhaeiaal gun naam dhrirraaee ||2|| |
The Merciful True Guru implanted the Glorious Praises of the Naam within me. ||2|| |

ਹਉ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਢੂਢਿ ਢੂਢਾਈ ॥ |

I search for and seek out my Beloved Lord God, Har, Har. |

ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪਾਈ ॥੩॥ |
sathasangath mil har ras paaee ||3|| |
Joining the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, I have obtained the subtle essence of the Lord. ||3|| |

dhhur masathak laekh likhae har paaee || |
By the pre-ordained destiny inscribed upon my forehead, I have found the Lord. |

ਗੁਰੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਤੁਠਾ ਮੇਲੈ ਹਰਿ ਭਾਈ ॥੪॥੧॥੫॥ |
gur naanak thuthaa maelai har bhaaee ||4||1||5|| |

har kirapaa karae man har rang laaeae || |
Showering His Mercy, the Lord imbues the mind with His Love. |

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਏ ॥੧॥ |
guramukh har har naam samaaeae ||1|| |
The Gurmukh merges in the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. ||1|| |
|
ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤਾ ਮਨੁ ਰੰਗ ਮਾਣੇ ॥ |
har rang raathaa man rang maanae || |
Imbued with the Lord's Love, the mortal enjoys the pleasure of His Love. |

ਸਦਾ ਅਨੰਦਿ ਰਹੈ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤੀ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਮਾਣੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
sadhaa anandh rehai dhin raathee poorae gur kai sabadh samaanae ||1|| rehaao || |
He remains always blissful, day and night, and he merges into the Shabad, the Word of the Perfect Guru. ||1||Pause|| |

ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗ ਕਉ ਲੋਚੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਈ ॥ |
har rang ko lochai sabh koee || |
Everyone longs for the Lord's Love; |
|
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਰੰਗੁ ਚਲੂਲਾ ਹੋਈ ॥੨॥ |
guramukh rang chaloolaa hoee ||2|| |
the Gurmukh is imbued with the deep red color of His Love. ||2|| |
|
ਜੇ ਸਉ ਲੋਚੈ ਰੰਗੁ ਨ ਹੋਵੈ ਕੋਇ ॥੩॥ |
jae so lochai rang n hovai koe ||3|| |
Even if he wishes it a hundred times, he does not obtain the Lord's Love. ||3|| |
|
ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਤਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥ |
nadhar karae thaa sathigur paavai || |
But if the Lord blesses him with His Glance of Grace, then he meets the True Guru. |
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਰਸਿ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥੪॥੨॥੬॥ |
naanak har ras har rang samaavai ||4||2||6|| |
Nanak is absorbed into the subtle essence of the Lord's Love. ||4||2||6|| |

My tongue remains satisfied with the subtle essence of the Lord. |

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪੀਵੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੧॥ |
guramukh peevai sehaj samaae ||1|| |
The Gurmukh drinks it in, and merges in celestial peace. ||1|| |
|
ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਜਨ ਚਾਖਹੁ ਜੇ ਭਾਈ ॥ |
har ras jan chaakhahu jae bhaaee || |
If you taste the subtle essence of the Lord, O humble Siblings of Destiny, |

ਤਉ ਕਤ ਅਨਤ ਸਾਦਿ ਲੋਭਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
tho kath anath saadh lobhaaee ||1|| rehaao || |
then how can you be enticed by other flavors? ||1||Pause|| |

ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਰਸੁ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਉਰ ਧਾਰਿ ॥ |
guramath ras raakhahu our dhhaar || |
Under Guru's Instructions, keep this subtle essence enshrined in your heart. |

ਹਰਿ ਰਸਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਰੰਗਿ ਮੁਰਾਰਿ ॥੨॥ |
har ras raathae rang muraar ||2|| |
Those who are imbued with the subtle essence of the Lord, are immersed in celestial bliss. ||2|| |
|
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਚਾਖਿਆ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥ |
manamukh har ras chaakhiaa n jaae || |
The self-willed manmukh cannot even taste the subtle essence of the Lord. |
|
ਹਉਮੈ ਕਰੈ ਬਹੁਤੀ ਮਿਲੈ ਸਜਾਇ ॥੩॥ |
houmai karai bahuthee milai sajaae ||3|| |
He acts out in ego, and suffers terrible punishment. ||3|| |
|
ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥ |
nadhar karae thaa har ras paavai || |
But if he is blessed with the Lord's Kind Mercy, then he obtains the subtle essence of the Lord. |
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਰਸਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ॥੪॥੩॥੭॥ |
naanak har ras har gun gaavai ||4||3||7|| |
O Nanak, absorbed in this subtle essence of the Lord, sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||4||3||7|| |
