| Water is locked up in the earth, and fire is locked up in wood. |

| bakaree singh eikathai thhaae raakhae man har jap bhram bho dhoor keejai ||3|| |
| The sheep and the lions are kept in one place; O mortal, meditate on the Lord, and your doubts and fears shall be removed. ||3|| |

| ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਦੇਖਹੁ ਸੰਤਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਿਮਾਣਿਆ ਮਾਣੁ ਦੇਵਾਏ ॥ |
| har kee vaddiaaee dhaekhahu santhahu har nimaaniaa maan dhaevaaeae || |
| So behold the glorious greatness of the Lord, O Saints; the Lord blesses the dishonored with honor. |

| ਜਿਉ ਧਰਤੀ ਚਰਣ ਤਲੇ ਤੇ ਊਪਰਿ ਆਵੈ ਤਿਉ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਧ ਜਨਾ ਜਗਤੁ ਆਣਿ ਸਭੁ ਪੈਰੀ ਪਾਏ ॥੪॥੧॥੧੨॥ |

| thoon karathaa sabh kishh aapae jaanehi kiaa thudhh pehi aakh sunaaeeai || |
| You Yourself, O Creator, know everything; what can I possibly tell You? |

| ਬੁਰਾ ਭਲਾ ਤੁਧੁ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਸੂਝੈ ਜੇਹਾ ਕੋ ਕਰੇ ਤੇਹਾ ਕੋ ਪਾਈਐ ॥੧॥ |
| buraa bhalaa thudhh sabh kishh soojhai jaehaa ko karae thaehaa ko paaeeai ||1|| |
| You know all the bad and the good; as we act, so are we rewarded. ||1|| |

| sabh mohu maaeiaa sareer har keeaa vich dhaehee maanukh bhagath karaaee || |
| The Lord has infused the love of Maya into all bodies; through this human body, there comes the opportunity to worship the Lord with devotion. |

| ਇਕਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਲਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਦੇਵਹਿ ਇਕਿ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਧੰਧੁ ਪਿਟਾਈ ॥੨॥ |
| eikanaa sathigur mael sukh dhaevehi eik manamukh dhhandhh pittaaee ||2|| |
| You unite some with the True Guru, and bless them with peace; while others, the self-willed manmukhs, are engrossed in worldly affairs. ||2|| |

| ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਤੇਰਾ ਤੂੰ ਸਭਨਾ ਕਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਕਰਤੇ ਤੁਧੁ ਸਭਨਾ ਸਿਰਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਲੇਖੁ ॥ |
| sabh ko thaeraa thoon sabhanaa kaa maerae karathae thudhh sabhanaa sir likhiaa laekh || |
| All belong to You, and You belong to all, O my Creator Lord; You wrote the words of destiny on the forehead of everyone. |

| ਜੇਹੀ ਤੂੰ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਤੇਹਾ ਕੋ ਹੋਵੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਦਰੀ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋ ਭੇਖੁ ॥੩॥ |
| jaehee thoon nadhar karehi thaehaa ko hovai bin nadharee naahee ko bhaekh ||3|| |
| As You bestow Your Glance of Grace, so are mortals made; without Your Gracious Glance, no one assumes any form. ||3|| |

| ਤੇਰੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਤੂੰਹੈ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਸਭ ਤੁਧਨੋ ਨਿਤ ਧਿਆਏ ॥ |
| thaeree vaddiaaee thoonhai jaanehi sabh thudhhano nith dhhiaaeae || |
| You alone know Your Glorious Greatness; everyone constantly meditates on You. |

| ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਸ ਨੋ ਤੂੰ ਮੇਲਹਿ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੋ ਥਾਇ ਪਾਏ ॥੪॥੨॥੧੩॥ |
| jis no thudhh bhaavai this no thoon maelehi jan naanak so thhaae paaeae ||4||2||13|| |

| jin kai anthar vasiaa maeraa har har thin kae sabh rog gavaaeae || |
| Those beings, within whose inner selves my Lord, Har, Har, dwells - all their diseases are cured. |

| ਤੇ ਮੁਕਤ ਭਏ ਜਿਨ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਤਿਨ ਪਵਿਤੁ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਏ ॥੧॥ |
| thae mukath bheae jin har naam dhhiaaeiaa thin pavith param padh paaeae ||1|| |
| They alone become liberated, who meditate on the Name of the Lord; they obtain the supreme status. ||1|| |

| O my Lord,the Lord's humble servants become healthy. |

| brehamaa bisan mehaadhaeo thrai gun rogee vich houmai kaar kamaaee || |
| Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva suffer from the disease of the three gunas - the three qualities; they do their deeds in egotism. |

| ਜਿਨਿ ਕੀਏ ਤਿਸਹਿ ਨ ਚੇਤਹਿ ਬਪੁੜੇ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਈ ॥੨॥ |
| jin keeeae thisehi n chaethehi bapurrae har guramukh sojhee paaee ||2|| |
| The poor fools do not remember the One who created them; this understanding of the Lord is only obtained by those who become Gurmukh. ||2|| |

| ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਕੋ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਛੂਟੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਜਨ ਕਉ ਹਉ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ॥੩॥ |
| gur parasaadhee ko viralaa shhoottai this jan ko ho balihaaree ||3|| |
| By Guru's Grace, a few rare ones are saved; I am a sacrifice to those humble beings. ||3|| |

| ਜਿਨਿ ਸਿਸਟਿ ਸਾਜੀ ਸੋਈ ਹਰਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਤਾ ਕਾ ਰੂਪੁ ਅਪਾਰੋ ॥ |
| jin sisatt saajee soee har jaanai thaa kaa roop apaaro || |
| The One who created the Universe, that Lord alone knows. His beauty is incomparable. |

| keethaa karanaa sarab rajaaee kishh keechai jae kar sakeeai || |
| All that happens, and all that will happen, is by His Will. If we could do something by ourselves, we would. |

| ਆਪਣਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਹੋਵੈ ਜਿਉ ਹਰਿ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਉ ਰਖੀਐ ॥੧॥ |
| aapanaa keethaa kishhoo n hovai jio har bhaavai thio rakheeai ||1|| |
| By ourselves, we cannot do anything at all. As it pleases the Lord, He preserves us. ||1|| |

| You Yourself bless us with soul, body and everything. You Yourself cause us to act. |

| jaehaa thoon hukam karehi thaehae ko karam kamaavai jaehaa thudhh dhhur likh paaeiaa ||2|| |
| As You issue Your Commands, so do we act, according to our pre-ordained destiny. ||2|| |

| ਪੰਚ ਤਤੁ ਕਰਿ ਤੁਧੁ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਸਭ ਸਾਜੀ ਕੋਈ ਛੇਵਾ ਕਰਿਉ ਜੇ ਕਿਛੁ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਵੈ ॥ |
| panch thath kar thudhh srisatt sabh saajee koee shhaevaa kario jae kishh keethaa hovai || |
| You created the entire Universe out of the five elements; if anyone can create a sixth, let him. |

| I cannot describe the glorious greatness of the Lord; I am foolish, thoughtless, idiotic and lowly. |

| The actor stages the play, |

| ਨਾਨਾ ਰੂਪ ਭੇਖ ਦਿਖਲਾਈ ॥ |
| naanaa roop bhaekh dhikhalaaee || |
| playing the many characters in different costumes; |

| ਸਾਂਗੁ ਉਤਾਰਿ ਥੰਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਿਓ ਪਾਸਾਰਾ ॥ |
| saang outhaar thhanmihou paasaaraa || |
| but when the play ends, he takes off the costumes, |
|
| ਤਬ ਏਕੋ ਏਕੰਕਾਰਾ ॥੧॥ |

| ਕਵਨ ਰੂਪ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿਓ ਬਿਨਸਾਇਓ ॥ |

| How many forms and images appeared and disappeared? |

| ਕਤਹਿ ਗਇਓ ਉਹੁ ਕਤ ਤੇ ਆਇਓ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |

| Countless waves rise up from the water. |

| ਕਨਿਕ ਭੂਖਨ ਕੀਨੇ ਬਹੁ ਰੰਗਾ ॥ |

| Jewels and ornaments of many different forms are fashioned from gold. |

| ਬੀਜੁ ਬੀਜਿ ਦੇਖਿਓ ਬਹੁ ਪਰਕਾਰਾ ॥ |
| beej beej dhaekhiou bahu parakaaraa || |
| I have seen seeds of all kinds being planted |

| ਫਲ ਪਾਕੇ ਤੇ ਏਕੰਕਾਰਾ ॥੨॥ |
