| karam dhharam paakhandd jo dheesehi thin jam jaagaathee loottai || |
| The religious rites, rituals and hypocrisies which are seen, are plundered by the Messenger of Death, the ultimate tax collector. |

| ਨਿਰਬਾਣ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਗਾਵਹੁ ਕਰਤੇ ਕਾ ਨਿਮਖ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਜਿਤੁ ਛੂਟੈ ॥੧॥ |
| nirabaan keerathan gaavahu karathae kaa nimakh simarath jith shhoottai ||1|| |
| In the state of Nirvaanaa, sing the Kirtan of the Creator's Praises; contemplating Him in meditation, even for an instant, one is saved. ||1|| |

| ਕੋਟਿ ਤੀਰਥ ਮਜਨ ਇਸਨਾਨਾ ਇਸੁ ਕਲਿ ਮਹਿ ਮੈਲੁ ਭਰੀਜੈ ॥ |
| kott theerathh majan eisanaanaa eis kal mehi mail bhareejai || |
| Millions of cleansing baths at sacred shrines of pilgrimage only fill the mortal with filth in this Dark Age of Kali Yuga. |

| ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਕਰਿ ਲੀਜੈ ॥੨॥ |
| saadhhasang jo har gun gaavai so niramal kar leejai ||2|| |
| One who sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, becomes spotlessly pure. ||2|| |

| ਬੇਦ ਕਤੇਬ ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸਭਿ ਸਾਸਤ ਇਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਪੜਿਆ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥ |
| baedh kathaeb simrith sabh saasath einh parriaa mukath n hoee || |
| One may read all the books of the Vedas, the Bible, the Simritees and the Shaastras, but they will not bring liberation. |

| ਏਕੁ ਅਖਰੁ ਜੋ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਾਪੈ ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਸੋਈ ॥੩॥ |
| eaek akhar jo guramukh jaapai this kee niramal soee ||3|| |
| One who, as Gurmukh, chants the One Word, acquires a spotlessly pure reputation. ||3|| |

| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪੈ ਉਧਰੈ ਸੋ ਕਲਿ ਮਹਿ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਾਝਾ ॥੪॥੩॥੫੦॥ |
| guramukh naam japai oudhharai so kal mehi ghatt ghatt naanak maajhaa ||4||3||50|| |
| One who, as Gurmukh, chants the Naam, the Name of the Lord, is saved. In this Dark Age of Kali Yuga, O Nanak, God is permeating the hearts of each and every being. ||4||3||50|| |

| jo kishh karai soee prabh maanehi oue raam naam rang raathae || |
| Whatever God causes to happen is accepted, by those who are attuned to the Love of the Lord's Name. |

| ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਕੀ ਸੋਭਾ ਸਭਨੀ ਥਾਈ ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੇ ਚਰਣ ਪਰਾਤੇ ॥੧॥ |
| thinh kee sobhaa sabhanee thhaaee jinh prabh kae charan paraathae ||1|| |
| Those who fall at the Feet of God are respected everywhere. ||1|| |

| O my Lord, no one is as great as the Lord's Saints. |

| ਭਗਤਾ ਬਣਿ ਆਈ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਅਪਨੇ ਸਿਉ ਜਲਿ ਥਲਿ ਮਹੀਅਲਿ ਸੋਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| bhagathaa ban aaee prabh apanae sio jal thhal meheeal soee ||1|| rehaao || |
| The devotees are in harmony with their God; He is in the water, the land, and the sky. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਕੋਟਿ ਅਪ੍ਰਾਧੀ ਸੰਤਸੰਗਿ ਉਧਰੈ ਜਮੁ ਤਾ ਕੈ ਨੇੜਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥ |
| kott apraadhhee santhasang oudhharai jam thaa kai naerr n aavai || |
| Millions of sinners have been saved in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy; the Messenger of Death does not even approach them. |

| ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕਾ ਬਿਛੁੜਿਆ ਹੋਵੈ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਆਣਿ ਮਿਲਾਵੈ ॥੨॥ |
| janam janam kaa bishhurriaa hovai thinh har sio aan milaavai ||2|| |
| Those who have been separated from the Lord, for countless incarnations, are reunited with the Lord again. ||2|| |

| ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਭਰਮੁ ਭਉ ਕਾਟੈ ਸੰਤ ਸਰਣਿ ਜੋ ਆਵੈ ॥ |
| maaeiaa moh bharam bho kaattai santh saran jo aavai || |
| Attachment to Maya, doubt and fear are eradicated, when one enters the Sanctuary of the Saints. |
|
| ਜੇਹਾ ਮਨੋਰਥੁ ਕਰਿ ਆਰਾਧੇ ਸੋ ਸੰਤਨ ਤੇ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੩॥ |
| jaehaa manorathh kar aaraadhhae so santhan thae paavai ||3|| |
| Whatever wishes one harbors, are obtained from the Saints. ||3|| |

| ਜਨ ਕੀ ਮਹਿਮਾ ਕੇਤਕ ਬਰਨਉ ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਅਪਨੇ ਭਾਣੇ ॥ |
| jan kee mehimaa kaethak barano jo prabh apanae bhaanae || |
| How can I describe the glory of the Lord's humble servants? They are pleasing to their God. |

| ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਨ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟਿਆ ਸੇ ਸਭ ਤੇ ਭਏ ਨਿਕਾਣੇ ॥੪॥੪॥੫੧॥ |

| Says Nanak, those who meet the True Guru, become independent of all obligations. ||4||4||51|| |

| Giving me Your Hand, You saved me from the terrible fire, when I sought Your Sanctuary. |

| ਤੇਰਾ ਮਾਣੁ ਤਾਣੁ ਰਿਦ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਹੋਰ ਦੂਜੀ ਆਸ ਚੁਕਾਈ ॥੧॥ |

| Deep within my heart, I respect Your strength; I have abandoned all other hopes. ||1|| |

| You pulled me up out of the deep, dark pit. You have become merciful to me. |

| You care for me, and bless me with total peace; You Yourself cherish me. ||2|| |

| ਆਪਣੀ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਪਰਮੇਸਰੁ ਬੰਧਨ ਕਾਟਿ ਛਡਾਏ ॥ |
| aapanee nadhar karae paramaesar bandhhan kaatt shhaddaaeae || |
| The Transcendent Lord has blessed me with His Glance of Grace; breaking my bonds, He has delivered me. |

| ਆਪਣੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਆਪਿ ਕਰਾਈ ਆਪੇ ਸੇਵਾ ਲਾਏ ॥੩॥ |
| aapanee bhagath prabh aap karaaee aapae saevaa laaeae ||3|| |
| God Himself inspires me to worship Him; He Himself inspires me to serve Him. ||3|| |
|
| ਭਰਮੁ ਗਇਆ ਭੈ ਮੋਹ ਬਿਨਾਸੇ ਮਿਟਿਆ ਸਗਲ ਵਿਸੂਰਾ ॥ |
| bharam gaeiaa bhai moh binaasae mittiaa sagal visooraa || |
| My doubts have gone, my fears and infatuations have been dispelled, and all my sorrows are gone. |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਦਇਆ ਕਰੀ ਸੁਖਦਾਤੈ ਭੇਟਿਆ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ॥੪॥੫॥੫੨॥ |
| naanak dhaeiaa karee sukhadhaathai bhaettiaa sathigur pooraa ||4||5||52|| |
| O Nanak, the Lord, the Giver of peace has been merciful to me. I have met the Perfect True Guru. ||4||5||52|| |

| When nothing existed, what deeds were being done? And what karma caused anyone to be born at all? |

| ਅਪਨਾ ਖੇਲੁ ਆਪਿ ਕਰਿ ਦੇਖੈ ਠਾਕੁਰਿ ਰਚਨੁ ਰਚਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ |
| apanaa khael aap kar dhaekhai thaakur rachan rachaaeiaa ||1|| |
| The Lord Himself set His play in motion, and He Himself beholds it. He created the Creation. ||1|| |

| ਮੇਰੇ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਇ ਮੁਝ ਤੇ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥ |

| O my Sovereign Lord, I cannot do anything at all by myself. |

| ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਆਪਿ ਕਰਾਏ ਸਰਬ ਨਿਰੰਤਰਿ ਸੋਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |

| He Himself is the Creator, He Himself is the Cause. He is pervading deep within all. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਗਣਤੀ ਗਣੀ ਨ ਛੂਟੈ ਕਤਹੂ ਕਾਚੀ ਦੇਹ ਇਆਣੀ ॥ |
| ganathee ganee n shhoottai kathehoo kaachee dhaeh eiaanee || |
| If my account were to be judged, I would never be saved. My body is transitory and ignorant. |

| ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਰਣੈਹਾਰੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਬਖਸ ਨਿਰਾਲੀ ॥੨॥ |
| kirapaa karahu prabh karanaihaarae thaeree bakhas niraalee ||2|| |
| Take pity upon me, O Creator Lord God; Your Forgiving Grace is singular and unique. ||2|| |

| ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਸਭ ਤੇਰੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਤੁਹੀ ਧਿਆਈਐ ॥ |
| jeea janth sabh thaerae keethae ghatt ghatt thuhee dhhiaaeeai || |
| You created all beings and creatures. Each and every heart meditates on You. |

| ਤੇਰੀ ਗਤਿ ਮਿਤਿ ਤੂਹੈ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਕੀਮ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ॥੩॥ |
| thaeree gath mith thoohai jaanehi kudharath keem n paaeeai ||3|| |
| Your condition and expanse are known only to You; the value of Your creative omnipotence cannot be estimated. ||3|| |

| ਨਿਰਗੁਣੁ ਮੁਗਧੁ ਅਜਾਣੁ ਅਗਿਆਨੀ ਕਰਮ ਧਰਮ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਣਾ ॥ |
| niragun mugadhh ajaan agiaanee karam dhharam nehee jaanaa || |
| I am worthless, foolish, thoughtless and ignorant. I know nothing about good actions and righteous living. |

| ਦਇਆ ਕਰਹੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਮਿਠਾ ਲਗੈ ਤੇਰਾ ਭਾਣਾ ॥੪॥੬॥੫੩॥ |
| dhaeiaa karahu naanak gun gaavai mithaa lagai thaeraa bhaanaa ||4||6||53|| |
| Take pity on Nanak, that he may sing Your Glorious Praises; and that Your Will may seem sweet to him. ||4||6||53|| |

| bhaagatharrae har santh thumhaarae jinh ghar dhhan har naamaa || |
| Your Saints are very fortunate; their homes are filled with the wealth of the Lord's Name. |

| ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ਗਣੀ ਸੇਈ ਇਹ ਆਏ ਸਫਲ ਤਿਨਾ ਕੇ ਕਾਮਾ ॥੧॥ |
| paravaan ganee saeee eih aaeae safal thinaa kae kaamaa ||1|| |
| Their birth is approved, and their actions are fruitful. ||1|| |

| ਮੇਰੇ ਰਾਮ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਕੈ ਹਉ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਈ ॥ |
| maerae raam har jan kai ho bal jaaee || |
| O my Lord, I am a sacrifice to the humble servants of the Lord. |

| ਕੇਸਾ ਕਾ ਕਰਿ ਚਵਰੁ ਢੁਲਾਵਾ ਚਰਣ ਧੂੜਿ ਮੁਖਿ ਲਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| kaesaa kaa kar chavar dtulaavaa charan dhhoorr mukh laaee ||1|| rehaao || |
| I make my hair into a fan, and wave it over them; I apply the dust of their feet to my face. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਦੁਹਹੂ ਮਹਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਜਨ ਪਰਉਪਕਾਰੀ ਆਏ ॥ |
| janam maran dhuhehoo mehi naahee jan paroupakaaree aaeae || |
| Those generous, humble beings are above both birth and death. |

| ਜੀਅ ਦਾਨੁ ਦੇ ਭਗਤੀ ਲਾਇਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਲੈਨਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥੨॥ |
| jeea dhaan dhae bhagathee laaein har sio lain milaaeae ||2|| |
| They give the gift of the soul, and practice devotional worship; they inspire others to meet the Lord. ||2|| |
