| ਨਾਮੈ ਹੀ ਤੇ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਹੋਆ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਜਾਪੈ ॥ |
| naamai hee thae sabh kishh hoaa bin sathigur naam n jaapai || |
| Everything comes from the Naam, the Name of the Lord; without the True Guru, the Naam is not experienced. |

| ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਮਹਾ ਰਸੁ ਮੀਠਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਚਾਖੇ ਸਾਦੁ ਨ ਜਾਪੈ ॥ |
| gur kaa sabadh mehaa ras meethaa bin chaakhae saadh n jaapai || |
| The Word of the Guru's Shabad is the sweetest and most sublime essence, but without tasting it, its flavor cannot be experienced. |

| ਕਉਡੀ ਬਦਲੈ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ਚੀਨਸਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਆਪੈ ॥ |
| kouddee badhalai janam gavaaeiaa cheenas naahee aapai || |
| He wastes this human life in exchange for a mere shell; he does not understand his own self. |

| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਤਾ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਣੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਨ ਸੰਤਾਪੈ ॥੧॥ |
| guramukh hovai thaa eaeko jaanai houmai dhukh n santhaapai ||1|| |
| But, if he becomes Gurmukh, then he comes to know the One Lord, and the disease of egotism does not afflict him. ||1|| |

| ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ਗੁਰ ਅਪਣੇ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਸਾਚੇ ਸਿਉ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ॥ |
| balihaaree gur apanae vittahu jin saachae sio liv laaee || |
| I am a sacrifice to my Guru, who has lovingly attached me to the True Lord. |

| ਸਬਦੁ ਚੀਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਆਤਮੁ ਪਰਗਾਸਿਆ ਸਹਜੇ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |

| Concentrating on the Word of the Shabad, the soul is illumined and enlightened. I remain absorbed in celestial ecstasy. ||1||Pause|| |

| guramukh gaavai guramukh boojhai guramukh sabadh beechaarae || |
| The Gurmukh sings the Praises of the Lord; the Gurmukh understands. The Gurmukh contemplates the Word of the Shabad. |

| ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਸਭੁ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਉਪਜੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕਾਰਜ ਸਵਾਰੇ ॥ |
| jeeo pindd sabh gur thae oupajai guramukh kaaraj savaarae || |
| Body and soul are totally rejuvenated through the Guru; the Gurmukh's affairs are resolved in his favor. |

| ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਅੰਧਾ ਅੰਧੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਬਿਖੁ ਖਟੇ ਸੰਸਾਰੇ ॥ |
| manamukh andhhaa andhh kamaavai bikh khattae sansaarae || |
| The blind self-willed manmukh acts blindly, and earns only poison in this world. |

| ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਸਦਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਅਤਿ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥੨॥ |
| maaeiaa mohi sadhaa dhukh paaeae bin gur ath piaarae ||2|| |
| Enticed by Maya, he suffers in constant pain, without the most Beloved Guru. ||2|| |

| ਸੋਈ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਜੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਚਾਲੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭਾਏ ॥ |
| soee saevak jae sathigur saevae chaalai sathigur bhaaeae || |
| He alone is a selfless servant, who serves the True Guru, and walks in harmony with the True Guru's Will. |

| ਸਾਚਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਸਿਫਤਿ ਹੈ ਸਾਚੀ ਸਾਚਾ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਏ ॥ |
| saachaa sabadh sifath hai saachee saachaa mann vasaaeae || |
| The True Shabad, the Word of God, is the True Praise of God; enshrine the True Lord within your mind. |

| ਸਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਆਖੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਜਾਏ ॥ |
| sachee baanee guramukh aakhai houmai vichahu jaaeae || |
| The Gurmukh speaks the True Word of Gurbani, and egotism departs from within. |

| ਆਪੇ ਦਾਤਾ ਕਰਮੁ ਹੈ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੁਣਾਏ ॥੩॥ |
| aapae dhaathaa karam hai saachaa saachaa sabadh sunaaeae ||3|| |
| He Himself is the Giver, and True are His actions. He proclaims the True Word of the Shabad. ||3|| |

| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਘਾਲੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਖਟੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਾਏ ॥ |
| guramukh ghaalae guramukh khattae guramukh naam japaaeae || |
| The Gurmukh works, and the Gurmukh earns; the Gurmukh inspires others to chant the Naam. |

| ਸਦਾ ਅਲਿਪਤੁ ਸਾਚੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤਾ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਏ ॥ |
| sadhaa alipath saachai rang raathaa gur kai sehaj subhaaeae || |
| He is forever unattached, imbued with the Love of the True Lord, intuitively in harmony with the Guru. |

| ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਕੂੜੋ ਬੋਲੈ ਬਿਖੁ ਬੀਜੈ ਬਿਖੁ ਖਾਏ ॥ |
| manamukh sadh hee koorro bolai bikh beejai bikh khaaeae || |
| The self-willed manmukh always tells lies; he plants the seeds of poison, and eats only poison. |

| ਜਮਕਾਲਿ ਬਾਧਾ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਦਾਧਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਕਵਣੁ ਛਡਾਏ ॥੪॥ |
| jamakaal baadhhaa thrisanaa dhaadhhaa bin gur kavan shhaddaaeae ||4|| |
| He is bound and gagged by the Messenger of Death, and burnt in the fire of desire; who can save him, except the Guru? ||4|| |

| ਸਚਾ ਤੀਰਥੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਸਤ ਸਰਿ ਨਾਵਣੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਆਪਿ ਬੁਝਾਏ ॥ |
| sachaa theerathh jith sath sar naavan guramukh aap bujhaaeae || |
| True is that place of pilgrimage, where one bathes in the pool of Truth, and achieves self-realization as Gurmukh. The Gurmukh understands his own self. |

| ਅਠਸਠਿ ਤੀਰਥ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਦਿਖਾਏ ਤਿਤੁ ਨਾਤੈ ਮਲੁ ਜਾਏ ॥ |
| athasath theerathh gur sabadh dhikhaaeae thith naathai mal jaaeae || |
| The Lord has shown that the Word of the Guru's Shabad is the sixty-eight sacred shrines of pilgrimage; bathing in it, filth is washed away. |

| ਸਚਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਸਚਾ ਹੈ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਨਾ ਮਲੁ ਲਗੈ ਨ ਲਾਏ ॥ |
| sachaa sabadh sachaa hai niramal naa mal lagai n laaeae || |
| True and Immaculate is the True Word of His Shabad; no filth touches or clings to Him. |

| ਸਚੀ ਸਿਫਤਿ ਸਚੀ ਸਾਲਾਹ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਪਾਏ ॥੫॥ |
| sachee sifath sachee saalaah poorae gur thae paaeae ||5|| |
| True Praise, True Devotional Praise, is obtained from the Perfect Guru. ||5|| |

| ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਹਰਿ ਤਿਸੁ ਕੇਰਾ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਕਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਏ ॥ |
| than man sabh kishh har this kaeraa dhuramath kehan n jaaeae || |
| Body, mind, everything belongs to the Lord; but the evil-minded ones cannot even say this. |
 |
| ਹੁਕਮੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਤਾ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਜਾਏ ॥ |
| hukam hovai thaa niramal hovai houmai vichahu jaaeae || |
| If such is the Hukam of the Lord's Command, then one becomes pure and spotless, and the ego is taken away from within. |

| ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸਾਖੀ ਸਹਜੇ ਚਾਖੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਅਗਨਿ ਬੁਝਾਏ ॥ |
| gur kee saakhee sehajae chaakhee thrisanaa agan bujhaaeae || |
| I have intuitively tasted the Guru's Teachings, and the fire of my desire has been quenched. |

| ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਭਾਇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥ |
| har kaa naam sath kar jaanai gur kai bhaae piaarae || |
| The Name of the Lord is known as True, through the Love of the Beloved Guru. |

| ਸਚੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਪਾਈ ਸਚੈ ਨਾਇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥ |
| sachee vaddiaaee gur thae paaee sachai naae piaarae || |
| True Glorious Greatness is obtained from the Guru, through the Beloved True Name. |

| ਏਕੋ ਸਚਾ ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਵਰਤੈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਕੋ ਵੀਚਾਰੇ ॥ |
| eaeko sachaa sabh mehi varathai viralaa ko veechaarae || |
| The One True Lord is permeating and pervading among all; how rare is the one who contemplates this. |

| ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਲਏ ਤਾ ਬਖਸੇ ਸਚੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਸਵਾਰੇ ॥੭॥ |
| aapae mael leae thaa bakhasae sachee bhagath savaarae ||7|| |
| The Lord Himself unites us in Union, and forgives us; He embellishes us with true devotional worship. ||7|| |

| ਸਭੋ ਸਚੁ ਸਚੁ ਸਚੁ ਵਰਤੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕੋਈ ਜਾਣੈ ॥ |
| sabho sach sach sach varathai guramukh koee jaanai || |
| All is Truth; Truth, and Truth alone is pervading; how rare is the Gurmukh who knows this. |

| ਜੰਮਣ ਮਰਣਾ ਹੁਕਮੋ ਵਰਤੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ॥ |
| janman maranaa hukamo varathai guramukh aap pashhaanai || |
| Birth and death occur by the Hukam of His Command; the Gurmukh understands his own self. |

| ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਏ ਤਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਭਾਏ ਜੋ ਇਛੈ ਸੋ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਏ ॥ |
| naam dhhiaaeae thaa sathigur bhaaeae jo eishhai so fal paaeae || |
| He meditates on the Naam, the Name of the Lord, and so pleases the True Guru. He receives whatever rewards he desires. |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਸ ਦਾ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਜਿ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਏ ॥੮॥੧॥ |

| kaaeiaa kaaman ath suaaliho pir vasai jis naalae || |
| The body-bride is very beautiful; she dwells with her Husband Lord. |
 |
| ਪਿਰ ਸਚੇ ਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਹਾਗਣਿ ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਸਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਲੇ ॥ |
| pir sachae thae sadhaa suhaagan gur kaa sabadh samhaalae || |
| She becomes the happy soul-bride of her True Husband Lord, contemplating the Word of the Guru's Shabad. |

| ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਸਦਾ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤਾ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਜਾਲੇ ॥੧॥ |
| har kee bhagath sadhaa rang raathaa houmai vichahu jaalae ||1|| |
| The Lord's devotee is forever attuned to the Lord's Love; her ego is burnt away from within. ||1|| |

| ਵਾਹੁ ਵਾਹੁ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਬਾਣੀ ॥ |
| vaahu vaahu poorae gur kee baanee || |
| Waaho! Waaho! Blessed, blessed is the Word of the Perfect Guru's Bani. |

| Everything is within the Lord - the continents, worlds and nether regions. |

| ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਜਗਜੀਵਨ ਦਾਤਾ ਵਸੈ ਸਭਨਾ ਕਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲਾ ॥ |
| kaaeiaa andhar jagajeevan dhaathaa vasai sabhanaa karae prathipaalaa || |
| The Life of the World, the Great Giver, dwells within the body; He is the Cherisher of all. |

| ਕਾਇਆ ਕਾਮਣਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਹੇਲੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਲਾ ॥੨॥ |
| kaaeiaa kaaman sadhaa suhaelee guramukh naam samhaalaa ||2|| |
| The body-bride is eternally beautiful; the Gurmukh contemplates the Naam. ||2|| |

| ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਆਪੇ ਵਸੈ ਅਲਖੁ ਨ ਲਖਿਆ ਜਾਈ ॥ |
| kaaeiaa andhar aapae vasai alakh n lakhiaa jaaee || |
| The Lord Himself dwells within the body; He is invisible and cannot be seen. |
 |
| ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਮੁਗਧੁ ਬੂਝੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਭਾਲਣਿ ਜਾਈ ॥ |
| manamukh mugadhh boojhai naahee baahar bhaalan jaaee || |
| The foolish self-willed manmukh does not understand; he goes out searching for the Lord externally. |

| ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੇ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਅਲਖੁ ਦਿਤਾ ਲਖਾਈ ॥੩॥ |
| sathigur saevae sadhaa sukh paaeae sathigur alakh dhithaa lakhaaee ||3|| |
| One who serves the True Guru is always at peace; the True Guru has shown me the Invisible Lord. ||3|| |

| ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਰਤਨ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਭਗਤਿ ਭਰੇ ਭੰਡਾਰਾ ॥ |
| kaaeiaa andhar rathan padhaarathh bhagath bharae bhanddaaraa || |
| Within the body there are jewels and precious treasures, the over-flowing treasure of devotion. |

| ਇਸੁ ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਨਉ ਖੰਡ ਪ੍ਰਿਥਮੀ ਹਾਟ ਪਟਣ ਬਾਜਾਰਾ ॥ |
| eis kaaeiaa andhar noukhandd prithhamee haatt pattan baajaaraa || |
| Within this body are the nine continents of the earth, its markets, cities and streets. |

| ਇਸੁ ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਉ ਨਿਧਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥੪॥ |
| eis kaaeiaa andhar naam no nidhh paaeeai gur kai sabadh veechaaraa ||4|| |
| Within this body are the nine treasures of the Naam; contemplating the Word of the Guru's Shabad, it is obtained. ||4|| |
