| Deep within my self, I feel the pains of divine love. Beholding the Guru, my mind is comforted and consoled. |

| Eradicate the poison of egotism, O human being; it is holding you back from meeting your Lord God. |

| ਦੇਹ ਕੰਚਨ ਵੇ ਵੰਨੀਆ ਇਨਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਵਿਗੁਤੀਆ ॥ |
| dhaeh kanchan vae vanneeaa ein houmai maar vigutheeaa || |
| This golden-colored body has been disfigured and ruined by egotism. |

| ਮੋਹੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਵੇ ਸਭ ਕਾਲਖਾ ਇਨਿ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਮੂੜਿ ਸਜੁਤੀਆ ॥ |
| mohu maaeiaa vae sabh kaalakhaa ein manamukh moorr sajutheeaa || |
| Attachment to Maya is total darkness; this foolish, self-willed manmukh is attached to it. |

| ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਉਬਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਛੁਟੀਆ ॥੧॥ |

| O servant Nanak, the Gurmukh is saved; through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, he is released from egotism. ||1|| |

| ਵਸਿ ਆਣਿਹੁ ਵੇ ਜਨ ਇਸੁ ਮਨ ਕਉ ਮਨੁ ਬਾਸੇ ਜਿਉ ਨਿਤ ਭਉਦਿਆ ॥ |
| vas aanihu vae jan eis man ko man baasae jio nith bhoudhiaa || |
| Overcome and subdue this mind; your mind wanders around continually, like a falcon. |

| ਦੁਖਿ ਰੈਣਿ ਵੇ ਵਿਹਾਣੀਆ ਨਿਤ ਆਸਾ ਆਸ ਕਰੇਦਿਆ ॥ |
| dhukh rain vae vihaaneeaa nith aasaa aas karaedhiaa || |
| The mortal's life-night passes painfully, in constant hope and desire. |

| ਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਵੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ ਮਨਿ ਆਸ ਪੂਰੀ ਹਰਿ ਚਉਦਿਆ ॥ |
| gur paaeiaa vae santh jano man aas pooree har choudhiaa || |
| I have found the Guru, O humble Saints; my mind's hopes are fulfilled, chanting the Lord's Name. |

| ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦੇਹੁ ਮਤੀ ਛਡਿ ਆਸਾ ਨਿਤ ਸੁਖਿ ਸਉਦਿਆ ॥੨॥ |
| jan naanak prabh dhaehu mathee shhadd aasaa nith sukh soudhiaa ||2|| |
| Please bless servant Nanak, O God, with such understanding, that abandoning false hopes, he may always sleep in peace. ||2|| |

| ਸਾ ਧਨ ਆਸਾ ਚਿਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਜਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸੇਜੜੀਐ ਆਈ ॥ |

| The bride hopes in her mind, that her Sovereign Lord God will come to her bed. |

| ਮੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਲੋਚਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖੇ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਜਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਸਰਧਾ ਸੇਜ ਵਿਛਾਈ ॥ |
| maerai man than lochaa guramukhae raam raajiaa har saradhhaa saej vishhaaee || |
| My mind and body long to behold the Guru's face. O Sovereign Lord, I have spread out my bed of loving faith. |

| ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਣੀਆ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਜਿਆ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਈ ॥੩॥ |
| jan naanak har prabh bhaaneeaa raam raajiaa miliaa sehaj subhaaee ||3|| |
| O servant Nanak, when the bride pleases her Lord God, her Sovereign Lord meets her with natural ease. ||3|| |

| ਇਕਤੁ ਸੇਜੈ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੋ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਜਿਆ ਗੁਰੁ ਦਸੇ ਹਰਿ ਮੇਲੇਈ ॥ |

| My Lord God, my Sovereign Lord, is on the one bed. The Guru has shown me how to meet my Lord. |

| My mind and body are filled with love and affection for my Sovereign Lord. In His Mercy, the Guru has united me with Him. |

| ਹਉ ਗੁਰ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਘੋਲਿ ਘੁਮਾਇਆ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਜਿਆ ਜੀਉ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਆਗੈ ਦੇਈ ॥ |
| ho gur vittahu ghol ghumaaeiaa raam raajiaa jeeo sathigur aagai dhaeee || |
| I am a sacrifice to my Guru, O my Sovereign Lord; I surrender my soul to the True Guru. |

| Listen, madman: gazing upon the world, why have you gone crazy? |

| ਸੁਣਿ ਬਾਵਰੇ ਨੇਹੁ ਕੂੜਾ ਲਾਇਓ ਕੁਸੰਭ ਰੰਗਾਨਾ ॥ |
| sun baavarae naehu koorraa laaeiou kusanbh rangaanaa || |
| Listen, madman: you have been trapped by false love, which is transitory, like the fading color of the safflower. |

| ਕੂੜੀ ਡੇਖਿ ਭੁਲੋ ਅਢੁ ਲਹੈ ਨ ਮੁਲੋ ਗੋਵਿਦ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਜੀਠਾ ॥ |
| koorree ddaekh bhulo adt lehai n mulo govidh naam majeethaa || |
| Gazing upon the false world, you are fooled. It is not worth even half a shell. Only the Name of the Lord of the Universe is permanent. |

| ਥੀਵਹਿ ਲਾਲਾ ਅਤਿ ਗੁਲਾਲਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਚੀਨਿ ਗੁਰ ਮੀਠਾ ॥ |
| thheevehi laalaa ath gulaalaa sabadh cheen gur meethaa || |
| You shall take on the deep and lasting red color of the poppy, contemplating the sweet Word of the Guru's Shabad. |

| ਮਿਥਿਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਮਗਨੁ ਥੀ ਰਹਿਆ ਝੂਠ ਸੰਗਿ ਲਪਟਾਨਾ ॥ |
| mithhiaa mohi magan thhee rehiaa jhooth sang lapattaanaa || |
| You remain intoxicated with false emotional attachment; you are attached to falsehood. |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਦੀਨ ਸਰਣਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਿਧਿ ਰਾਖੁ ਲਾਜ ਭਗਤਾਨਾ ॥੧॥ |

| Nanak, meek and humble, seeks the Sanctuary of the Lord, the treasure of mercy. He preserves the honor of His devotees. ||1|| |

| ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਹਭ ਵੈਸੀ ਸੁਣਿ ਪਰਦੇਸੀ ਸੰਤਸੰਗਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਰਹੀਐ ॥ |
| nihachal habh vaisee sun paradhaesee santhasang mil reheeai || |
| Listen, O wandering stranger: that which you believe to be permanent, shall all pass away; so remain in the Saints' Congregation. |

| ਹਰਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਭਾਗੀ ਸੁਣਿ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਚਰਣ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਗਹਿ ਰਹੀਐ ॥ |
| har paaeeai bhaagee sun bairaagee charan prabhoo gehi reheeai || |
| Listen, renunciate: by your good destiny, obtain the Lord, and remain attached to God's Feet. |

| ਏਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਦੀਜੈ ਸੰਕ ਨ ਕੀਜੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਤਜਿ ਬਹੁ ਮਾਣਾ ॥ |
| eaehu man dheejai sank n keejai guramukh thaj bahu maanaa || |
| Dedicate and surrender this mind to the Lord, and have no doubts; as Gurmukh, renounce your great pride. |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਦੀਨ ਭਗਤ ਭਵ ਤਾਰਣ ਤੇਰੇ ਕਿਆ ਗੁਣ ਆਖਿ ਵਖਾਣਾ ॥੨॥ |
| naanak dheen bhagath bhav thaaran thaerae kiaa gun aakh vakhaanaa ||2|| |
| O Nanak, the Lord carries the meek and humble devotees across the terrifying world-ocean. What Glorious Virtues of Your should I chant and recite? ||2|| |

| Listen, madman: why do you harbor false pride? |

| ਸੁਣਿ ਬਾਵਰੇ ਹਭੁ ਵੈਸੀ ਗਰਬੁ ਗੁਮਾਨੋ ॥ |
| sun baavarae habh vaisee garab gumaano || |
| Listen, madman: all your egotism and pride shall be overcome. |

| ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਹਭ ਜਾਣਾ ਮਿਥਿਆ ਮਾਣਾ ਸੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹੋਇ ਦਾਸਾ ॥ |
| nihachal habh jaanaa mithhiaa maanaa santh prabhoo hoe dhaasaa || |
| What you think is permanent, shall all pass away. Pride is false, so become the slave of God's Saints. |

| ਜੀਵਤ ਮਰੀਐ ਭਉਜਲੁ ਤਰੀਐ ਜੇ ਥੀਵੈ ਕਰਮਿ ਲਿਖਿਆਸਾ ॥ |
| jeevath mareeai bhoujal thareeai jae thheevai karam likhiaasaa || |
| Remain dead while still alive, and you shall cross over the terrifying world-ocean, if it is your pre-ordained destiny. |

| ਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੀਜੈ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀਜੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਲਾਵਹਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਧਿਆਨੋ ॥ |
| gur saeveejai anmrith peejai jis laavehi sehaj dhhiaano || |
| One whom the Lord causes to meditate intuitively, serves the Guru, and drinks in the Ambrosial Nectar. |

| ਨਾਨਕੁ ਸਰਣਿ ਪਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਦੁਆਰੈ ਹਉ ਬਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਸਦ ਕੁਰਬਾਨੋ ॥੩॥ |
| naanak saran paeiaa har dhuaarai ho bal bal sadh kurabaano ||3|| |
| Nanak seeks the Sanctuary of the Lord's Door; I am a sacrifice, a sacrifice, a sacrifice, forever a sacrifice to Him. ||3|| |

| Listen, madman: be the dust under the feet of those who meditate on God. |

| ਜਿਨਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਤਿਨਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਪਾਈਐ ॥ |
| jin prabh dhhiaaeiaa thin sukh paaeiaa vaddabhaagee dharasan paaeeai || |
| Those who meditate on God find peace. By great good fortune, the Blessed Vision of their Darshan is obtained. |

| ਥੀਉ ਨਿਮਾਣਾ ਸਦ ਕੁਰਬਾਣਾ ਸਗਲਾ ਆਪੁ ਮਿਟਾਈਐ ॥ |
| thheeo nimaanaa sadh kurabaanaa sagalaa aap mittaaeeai || |
| Be humble, and be forever a sacrifice, and your self-conceit shall be totally eradicated. |

| ਓਹੁ ਧਨੁ ਭਾਗ ਸੁਧਾ ਜਿਨਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਲਧਾ ਹਮ ਤਿਸੁ ਪਹਿ ਆਪੁ ਵੇਚਾਇਆ ॥ |
| ouhu dhhan bhaag sudhhaa jin prabh ladhhaa ham this pehi aap vaechaaeiaa || |
| One who has found God is pure, with blessed destiny. I would sell myself to him. |

| The Lord's Ambrosial Nectar is an overflowing treasure; everything is in His Home. I am a sacrifice to the Lord. |

| ਬਾਬੁਲੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਵਡ ਸਮਰਥਾ ਕਰਣ ਕਾਰਣ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਹਾਰਾ ॥ |
| baabul maeraa vadd samarathhaa karan kaaran prabh haaraa || |
| My Father is absolutely all-powerful. God is the Doer, the Cause of causes. |

| ਜਿਸੁ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਦੁਖੁ ਕੋਈ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਭਉਜਲੁ ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਾਰਾ ॥ |
| jis simarath dhukh koee n laagai bhoujal paar outhaaraa || |
| Remembering Him in meditation, pain does not touch me; thus I cross over the terrifying world-ocean. |

| ਆਦਿ ਜੁਗਾਦਿ ਭਗਤਨ ਕਾ ਰਾਖਾ ਉਸਤਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਜੀਵਾ ॥ |
| aadh jugaadh bhagathan kaa raakhaa ousathath kar kar jeevaa || |
| In the beginning, and throughout the ages, He is the Protector of His devotees. Praising Him continually, I live. |
