| thhaakae nain sravan sun thhaakae thhaakee sundhar kaaeiaa || |
| My eyes are exhausted, and my ears are tired of hearing; my beautiful body is exhausted. |

| ਜਰਾ ਹਾਕ ਦੀ ਸਭ ਮਤਿ ਥਾਕੀ ਏਕ ਨ ਥਾਕਸਿ ਮਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ |
| jaraa haak dhee sabh math thhaakee eaek n thhaakas maaeiaa ||1|| |
| Driven forward by old age, all my senses are exhausted; only my attachment to Maya is not exhausted. ||1|| |
|
| ਬਾਵਰੇ ਤੈ ਗਿਆਨ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ |

| O mad man, you have not obtained spiritual wisdom and meditation. |
|
| ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |

| You have wasted this human life, and lost. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਤਬ ਲਗੁ ਪ੍ਰਾਨੀ ਤਿਸੈ ਸਰੇਵਹੁ ਜਬ ਲਗੁ ਘਟ ਮਹਿ ਸਾਸਾ ॥ |
| thab lag praanee thisai saraevahu jab lag ghatt mehi saasaa || |
| O mortal, serve the Lord, as long as the breath of life remains in the body. |

| ਜੇ ਘਟੁ ਜਾਇ ਤ ਭਾਉ ਨ ਜਾਸੀ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਚਰਨ ਨਿਵਾਸਾ ॥੨॥ |
| jae ghatt jaae th bhaao n jaasee har kae charan nivaasaa ||2|| |
| And even when your body dies, your love for the Lord shall not die; you shall dwell at the Feet of the Lord. ||2|| |
|
| ਜਿਸ ਕਉ ਸਬਦੁ ਬਸਾਵੈ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਚੂਕੈ ਤਿਸਹਿ ਪਿਆਸਾ ॥ |
| jis ko sabadh basaavai anthar chookai thisehi piaasaa || |
| When the Word of the Shabad abides deep within, thirst and desire are quenched. |

| ਹੁਕਮੈ ਬੂਝੈ ਚਉਪੜਿ ਖੇਲੈ ਮਨੁ ਜਿਣਿ ਢਾਲੇ ਪਾਸਾ ॥੩॥ |
| hukamai boojhai chouparr khaelai man jin dtaalae paasaa ||3|| |
| When one understands the Hukam of the Lord's Command, he plays the game of chess with the Lord; throwing the dice, he conquers his own mind. ||3|| |
|
| ਜੋ ਜਨ ਜਾਨਿ ਭਜਹਿ ਅਬਿਗਤ ਕਉ ਤਿਨ ਕਾ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਨਾਸਾ ॥ |
| jo jan jaan bhajehi abigath ko thin kaa kashhoo n naasaa || |
| Those humble beings, who know the Imperishable Lord and meditate on Him, are not destroyed at all. |
|
| ਕਹੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਤੇ ਜਨ ਕਬਹੁ ਨ ਹਾਰਹਿ ਢਾਲਿ ਜੁ ਜਾਨਹਿ ਪਾਸਾ ॥੪॥੪॥ |
| kahu kabeer thae jan kabahu n haarehi dtaal j jaanehi paasaa ||4||4|| |
| Says Kabeer, those humble beings who know how to throw these dice, never lose the game of life. ||4||4|| |

| ਏਕੁ ਕੋਟੁ ਪੰਚ ਸਿਕਦਾਰਾ ਪੰਚੇ ਮਾਗਹਿ ਹਾਲਾ ॥ |
| eaek kott panch sikadhaaraa panchae maagehi haalaa || |
| In the one fortress of the body, there are five rulers, and all five demand payment of taxes. |

| ਜਿਮੀ ਨਾਹੀ ਮੈ ਕਿਸੀ ਕੀ ਬੋਈ ਐਸਾ ਦੇਨੁ ਦੁਖਾਲਾ ॥੧॥ |
| jimee naahee mai kisee kee boee aisaa dhaen dhukhaalaa ||1|| |
| I have not farmed anyone's land, so such payment is difficult for me to pay. ||1|| |
|
| ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਲੋਗਾ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਨੀਤਿ ਡਸੈ ਪਟਵਾਰੀ ॥ |
| har kae logaa mo ko neeth ddasai pattavaaree || |
| O people of the Lord, the tax-collector is constantly torturing me! |

| ਊਪਰਿ ਭੁਜਾ ਕਰਿ ਮੈ ਗੁਰ ਪਹਿ ਪੁਕਾਰਿਆ ਤਿਨਿ ਹਉ ਲੀਆ ਉਬਾਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| oopar bhujaa kar mai gur pehi pukaariaa thin ho leeaa oubaaree ||1|| rehaao || |
| Raising my arms up, I complained to my Guru, and He has saved me. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਨਉ ਡਾਡੀ ਦਸ ਮੁੰਸਫ ਧਾਵਹਿ ਰਈਅਤਿ ਬਸਨ ਨ ਦੇਹੀ ॥ |
| no ddaaddee dhas munsaf dhhaavehi reeath basan n dhaehee || |
| The nine tax-assessors and the ten magistrates go out; they do not allow their subjects to live in peace. |

| ਡੋਰੀ ਪੂਰੀ ਮਾਪਹਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਬਹੁ ਬਿਸਟਾਲਾ ਲੇਹੀ ॥੨॥ |
| ddoree pooree maapehi naahee bahu bisattaalaa laehee ||2|| |
| They do not measure with a full tape, and they take huge amounts in bribes. ||2|| |
|
| ਬਹਤਰਿ ਘਰ ਇਕੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਸਮਾਇਆ ਉਨਿ ਦੀਆ ਨਾਮੁ ਲਿਖਾਈ ॥ |
| behathar ghar eik purakh samaaeiaa oun dheeaa naam likhaaee || |
| The One Lord is contained in the seventy-two chambers of the body, and He has written off my account. |

| ਧਰਮ ਰਾਇ ਕਾ ਦਫਤਰੁ ਸੋਧਿਆ ਬਾਕੀ ਰਿਜਮ ਨ ਕਾਈ ॥੩॥ |
| dhharam raae kaa dhafathar sodhhiaa baakee rijam n kaaee ||3|| |
| The records of the Righteous Judge of Dharma have been searched, and I owe absolutely nothing. ||3|| |

| ਸੰਤਾ ਕਉ ਮਤਿ ਕੋਈ ਨਿੰਦਹੁ ਸੰਤ ਰਾਮੁ ਹੈ ਏਕ+ ॥ |
| santhaa ko math koee nindhahu santh raam hai eaekuo || |
| Let no one slander the Saints, because the Saints and the Lord are as one. |

| ਕਹੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਮੈ ਸੋ ਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਨਾਉ ਬਿਬੇਕ+ ॥੪॥੫॥ |

| The happy soul-bride knows the worth of her Husband Lord. |

| ਤਜਿ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ਸੁਖ ਰਲੀਆ ਮਾਨੈ ॥ |
| thaj abhimaan sukh raleeaa maanai || |
| Renouncing pride, she enjoys peace and pleasure. |

| ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਦੇਇ ਨ ਅੰਤਰੁ ਰਾਖੈ ॥ |
| than man dhaee n anthar raakhai || |
| She surrenders her body and mind to Him, and does not remain separate from Him. |

| ਅਵਰਾ ਦੇਖਿ ਨ ਸੁਨੈ ਅਭਾਖੈ ॥੧॥ |
| avaraa dhaekh n sunai abhaakhai ||1|| |
| She does not see or hear, or speak to another. ||1|| |
|
| ਸੋ ਕਤ ਜਾਨੈ ਪੀਰ ਪਰਾਈ ॥ |
| so kath jaanai peer paraaee || |
| How can anyone know the pain of another, |

| ਜਾ ਕੈ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਦਰਦੁ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| jaa kai anthar dharadh n paaee ||1|| rehaao || |
| if there is no compassion and sympathy within? ||1||Pause|| |

| ਦੁਖੀ ਦੁਹਾਗਨਿ ਦੁਇ ਪਖ ਹੀਨੀ ॥ |
| dhukhee dhuhaagan dhue pakh heenee || |
| The discarded bride is miserable, and loses both worlds; |

| ਜਿਨਿ ਨਾਹ ਨਿਰੰਤਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਕੀਨੀ ॥ |
| jin naah niranthar bhagath n keenee || |
| she does not worship her Husband Lord. |
|
| ਪੁਰ ਸਲਾਤ ਕਾ ਪੰਥੁ ਦੁਹੇਲਾ ॥ |
| pur salaath kaa panthh dhuhaelaa || |
| The bridge over the fire of hell is difficult and treacherous. |
|
| ਸੰਗਿ ਨ ਸਾਥੀ ਗਵਨੁ ਇਕੇਲਾ ॥੨॥ |

| No one will accompany you there; you will have to go all alone. ||2|| |

| ਦੁਖੀਆ ਦਰਦਵੰਦੁ ਦਰਿ ਆਇਆ ॥ |
| dhukheeaa dharadhavandh dhar aaeiaa || |
| Suffering in pain, I have come to Your Door, O Compassionate Lord. |

| ਬਹੁਤੁ ਪਿਆਸ ਜਬਾਬੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ |
| bahuth piaas jabaab n paaeiaa || |
| I am so thirsty for You, but You do not answer me. |
|
| ਕਹਿ ਰਵਿਦਾਸ ਸਰਨਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੇਰੀ ॥ |

| Says Ravi Daas, I seek Your Sanctuary, God; |

| That day which comes, that day shall go. |

| ਕਰਨਾ ਕੂਚੁ ਰਹਨੁ ਥਿਰੁ ਨਾਹੀ ॥ |
| karanaa kooch rehan thhir naahee || |
| You must march on; nothing remains stable. |
|
| ਸੰਗੁ ਚਲਤ ਹੈ ਹਮ ਭੀ ਚਲਨਾ ॥ |
| sang chalath hai ham bhee chalanaa || |
| Our companions are leaving, and we must leave as well. |
|
| ਕਿਆ ਤੂ ਸੋਇਆ ਜਾਗੁ ਇਆਨਾ ॥ |
| kiaa thoo soeiaa jaag eiaanaa || |
| Why are you asleep? Wake up, you ignorant fool! |

| ਤੈ ਜੀਵਨੁ ਜਗਿ ਸਚੁ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਨਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |

| You believe that your life in the world is true. ||1||Pause|| |

| The One who gave you life shall also provide you with nourishment. |

| ਸਭ ਘਟ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਹਾਟੁ ਚਲਾਵੈ ॥ |
| sabh ghatt bheethar haatt chalaavai || |
| In each and every heart, He runs His shop. |
|
| ਕਰਿ ਬੰਦਿਗੀ ਛਾਡਿ ਮੈ ਮੇਰਾ ॥ |
| kar bandhigee shhaadd mai maeraa || |
| Meditate on the Lord, and renounce your egotism and self-conceit. |
|
| ਹਿਰਦੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਰਿ ਸਵੇਰਾ ॥੨॥ |
| hiradhai naam samhaar savaeraa ||2|| |
| Within your heart, contemplate the Naam, the Name of the Lord, sometime. ||2|| |

| Your life has passed away, but you have not arranged your path. |
