| man mandhar than vaes kalandhar ghatt hee theerathh naavaa || |
| My mind is the temple, and my body is the simple cloth of the humble seeker; deep within my heart, I bathe at the sacred shrine. |

| ਏਕੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਮੇਰੈ ਪ੍ਰਾਨਿ ਬਸਤੁ ਹੈ ਬਾਹੁੜਿ ਜਨਮਿ ਨ ਆਵਾ ॥੧॥ |
| eaek sabadh maerai praan basath hai baahurr janam n aavaa ||1|| |
| The One Word of the Shabad abides within my mind; I shall not come to be born again. ||1|| |

| My mind is pierced through by the Merciful Lord, O my mother! |

| ਕਉਣੁ ਜਾਣੈ ਪੀਰ ਪਰਾਈ ॥ |

| Who can know the pain of another? |

| O Lord, inaccessible, unfathomable, invisible and infinite: please, take care of me! |

| ਜਲਿ ਥਲਿ ਮਹੀਅਲਿ ਭਰਿਪੁਰਿ ਲੀਣਾ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਰੀ ॥੨॥ |
| jal thhal meheeal bharipur leenaa ghatt ghatt joth thumhaaree ||2|| |
| In the water, on the land and in sky, You are totally pervading. Your Light is in each and every heart. ||2|| |

| All teachings, instructions and understandings are Yours; the mansions and sanctuaries are Yours as well. |

| ਤੁਝ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਹਿਬਾ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਾ ਨਿਤ ਤੇਰੇ ॥੩॥ |
| thujh bin avar n jaanaa maerae saahibaa gun gaavaa nith thaerae ||3|| |
| Without You, I know no other, O my Lord and Master; I continually sing Your Glorious Praises. ||3|| |

| ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਸਭਿ ਸਰਣਿ ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਰੀ ਸਰਬ ਚਿੰਤ ਤੁਧੁ ਪਾਸੇ ॥ |
| jeea janth sabh saran thumhaaree sarab chinth thudhh paasae || |
| All beings and creatures seek the Protection of Your Sanctuary; all thought of their care rests with You. |

| ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋਈ ਚੰਗਾ ਇਕ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੀ ਅਰਦਾਸੇ ॥੪॥੨॥ |
| jo thudhh bhaavai soee changaa eik naanak kee aradhaasae ||4||2|| |
| That which pleases Your Will is good; this alone is Nanak's prayer. ||4||2|| |

| He Himself is the Word of the Shabad, and He Himself is the Insignia. |

| ਆਪੇ ਸੁਰਤਾ ਆਪੇ ਜਾਨੁ ॥ |
| aapae surathaa aapae jaan || |
| He Himself is the Listener, and He Himself is the Knower. |
|
| ਆਪੇ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਖੈ ਤਾਣੁ ॥ |
| aapae kar kar vaekhai thaan || |
| He Himself created the creation, and He Himself beholds His almighty power. |
|
| ਐਸਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਦੇਉ ॥ |
| aisaa naam niranjan dhaeo || |
| Such is the Name of the Immaculate, Divine Lord. |

| maaeiaa mohu dhharakattee naar || bhoonddee kaaman kaamaniaar || |
| Love of Maya is like a cursed woman, ugly, dirty and promiscuous. |

| ਰਾਜੁ ਰੂਪੁ ਝੂਠਾ ਦਿਨ ਚਾਰਿ ॥ |
| raaj roop jhoothaa dhin chaar || |
| Power and beauty are false, and last for only a few days. |
|
| ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਚਾਨਣੁ ਅੰਧਿਆਰਿ ॥੨॥ |
| naam milai chaanan andhhiaar ||2|| |
| But when one is blessed with the Naam, the darkness within is illuminated. ||2|| |
|
| ਚਖਿ ਛੋਡੀ ਸਹਸਾ ਨਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥ |
| chakh shhoddee sehasaa nehee koe || |
| I tasted Maya and renounced it, and now, I have no doubts. |
|
| ਬਾਪੁ ਦਿਸੈ ਵੇਜਾਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥ |
| baap dhisai vaejaath n hoe || |
| One whose father is known, cannot be illegitimate. |
|
| ਏਕੇ ਕਉ ਨਾਹੀ ਭਉ ਕੋਇ ॥ |
| eaekae ko naahee bho koe || |
| One who belongs to the One Lord, has no fear. |
|
| ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਵੈ ਸੋਇ ॥੩॥ |
| karathaa karae karaavai soe ||3|| |
| The Creator acts, and causes all to act. ||3|| |
|
| ਸਬਦਿ ਮੁਏ ਮਨੁ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਮਾਰਿਆ ॥ |
| sabadh mueae man man thae maariaa || |
| One who dies in the Word of the Shabad conquers his mind, through his mind. |
|
| ਠਾਕਿ ਰਹੇ ਮਨੁ ਸਾਚੈ ਧਾਰਿਆ ॥ |
| thaak rehae man saachai dhhaariaa || |
| Keeping his mind restrained, he enshrines the True Lord within his heart. |
|
| ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਸੂਝੈ ਗੁਰ ਕਉ ਵਾਰਿਆ ॥ |
| avar n soojhai gur ko vaariaa || |
| He does not know any other, and he is a sacrifice to the Guru. |
|
| ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਨਿਸਤਾਰਿਆ ॥੪॥੩॥ |

| O Nanak, attuned to the Naam, he is emancipated. ||4||3|| |

| Through the Word of the Guru's Teachings, the mind intuitively meditates on the Lord. |

| ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਤਾ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨੇ ॥ |
| har kai rang rathaa man maanae || |
| Imbued with the Lord's Love, the mind is satisfied. |
|
| ਮਨਮੁਖ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲੇ ਬਉਰਾਨੇ ॥ |
| manamukh bharam bhulae bouraanae || |
| The insane, self-willed manmukhs wander around, deluded by doubt. |
|
| ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਕਿਉ ਰਹੀਐ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਨੇ ॥੧॥ |
| har bin kio reheeai gur sabadh pashhaanae ||1|| |
| Without the Lord,how can anyone survive? Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad,He is realized. ||1|| |

| ਬਿਨੁ ਦਰਸਨ ਕੈਸੇ ਜੀਵਉ ਮੇਰੀ ਮਾਈ ॥ |
| bin dharasan kaisae jeevo maeree maaee || |
| Without the Blessed Vision of His Darshan, how can I live, O my mother? |

| ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਜੀਅਰਾ ਰਹਿ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਖਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਬੂਝ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| har bin jeearaa rehi n sakai khin sathigur boojh bujhaaee ||1|| rehaao || |
| Without the Lord, my soul cannot survive, even for an instant; the True Guru has helped me understand this. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਬਿਸਰੈ ਹਉ ਮਰਉ ਦੁਖਾਲੀ ॥ |
| maeraa prabh bisarai ho maro dhukhaalee || |
| Forgetting my God, I die in pain. |

| ਸਾਸਿ ਗਿਰਾਸਿ ਜਪਉ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਹਰਿ ਭਾਲੀ ॥ |
| saas giraas japo apunae har bhaalee || |
| With each breath and morsel of food, I meditate on my Lord, and seek Him. |
|
| ਸਦ ਬੈਰਾਗਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਹਾਲੀ ॥ |
| sadh bairaagan har naam nihaalee || |
| I remain always detached, but I am enraptured with the Lord's Name. |
|
| ਅਬ ਜਾਨੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਲੀ ॥੨॥ |
| ab jaanae guramukh har naalee ||2|| |
| Now, as Gurmukh, I know that the Lord is always with me. ||2|| |
|
| ਅਕਥ ਕਥਾ ਕਹੀਐ ਗੁਰ ਭਾਇ ॥ |
| akathh kathhaa keheeai gur bhaae || |
| The Unspoken Speech is spoken, by the Will of the Guru. |
|
| ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਦੇਇ ਦਿਖਾਇ ॥ |
| prabh agam agochar dhaee dhikhaae || |
| He shows us that God is unapproachable and unfathomable. |
|
| ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਕਰਣੀ ਕਿਆ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਇ ॥ |
| bin gur karanee kiaa kaar kamaae || |
| Without the Guru, what lifestyle could we practice, and what work could we do? |
|
| ਹਉਮੈ ਮੇਟਿ ਚਲੈ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੩॥ |
| houmai maett chalai gur sabadh samaae ||3|| |
| Eradicating egotism, and walking in harmony with the Guru's Will, I am absorbed in the Word of the Shabad. ||3|| |

| ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਵਿਛੁੜੈ ਖੋਟੀ ਰਾਸਿ ॥ |
| manamukh vishhurrai khottee raas || |
| The self-willed manmukhs are separated from the Lord, gathering false wealth. |
|
| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਸਾਬਾਸਿ ॥ |
| guramukh naam milai saabaas || |
| The Gurmukhs are celebrated with the glory of the Naam, the Name of the Lord. |
|
| ਹਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰੀ ਦਾਸਨਿ ਦਾਸ ॥ |
| har kirapaa dhhaaree dhaasan dhaas || |
| The Lord has showered His Mercy upon me, and made me the slave of His slaves. |
|
| ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਧਨੁ ਰਾਸਿ ॥੪॥੪॥ |
| jan naanak har naam dhhan raas ||4||4|| |
| The Name of the Lord is the wealth and capital of servant Nanak. ||4||4|| |
