| Pain comes, when one forgets Him. Peace comes when one remembers God. |

| oochae thae neechaa karai neech khin mehi thhaapai || |
| The high, He makes low, and the low, he elevates in an instant. |

| ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਹੀ ਨ ਜਾਈਐ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਪਰਤਾਪੈ ॥੨॥ |
| keemath kehee n jaaeeai thaakur parathaapai ||2|| |
| The value of the glory of our Lord and Master cannot be estimated. ||2|| |

| ਪੇਖਤ ਲੀਲਾ ਰੰਗ ਰੂਪ ਚਲਨੈ ਦਿਨੁ ਆਇਆ ॥ |
| paekhath leelaa rang roop chalanai dhin aaeiaa || |
| While he gazes upon beautiful dramas and plays, the day of his departure dawns. |

| ਸੁਪਨੇ ਕਾ ਸੁਪਨਾ ਭਇਆ ਸੰਗਿ ਚਲਿਆ ਕਮਾਇਆ ॥੩॥ |
| supanae kaa supanaa bhaeiaa sang chaliaa kamaaeiaa ||3|| |
| The dream becomes the dream, and his actions do not go along with him. ||3|| |

| ਕਰਣ ਕਾਰਣ ਸਮਰਥ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥ |
| karan kaaran samarathh prabh thaeree saranaaee || |
| God is All-powerful, the Cause of causes; I seek Your Sanctuary. |

| Day and night, Nanak meditates on the Lord; forever and ever he is a sacrifice. ||4||20||50|| |

| I carry water on my head, and with my hands I wash their feet. |

| ਬਾਰਿ ਜਾਉ ਲਖ ਬੇਰੀਆ ਦਰਸੁ ਪੇਖਿ ਜੀਵਾਵਉ ॥੧॥ |
| baar jaao lakh baereeaa dharas paekh jeevaavo ||1|| |
| Tens of thousands of times, I am a sacrifice to them; gazing upon the Blessed Vision of their Darshan, I live. ||1|| |

| ਕਰਉ ਮਨੋਰਥ ਮਨੈ ਮਾਹਿ ਅਪਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੇ ਪਾਵਉ ॥ |
| karo manorathh manai maahi apanae prabh thae paavo || |
| The hopes which I cherish in my mind - my God fulfills them all. |

| ਦੇਉ ਸੂਹਨੀ ਸਾਧ ਕੈ ਬੀਜਨੁ ਢੋਲਾਵਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| dhaeo soohanee saadhh kai beejan dtolaavo ||1|| rehaao || |
| With my broom, I sweep the homes of the Holy Saints, and wave the fan over them. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਗੁਣ ਸੰਤ ਬੋਲਤੇ ਸੁਣਿ ਮਨਹਿ ਪੀਲਾਵਉ ॥ |
| anmrith gun santh bolathae sun manehi peelaavo || |
| The Saints chant the Ambrosial Praises of the Lord; I listen, and my mind drinks it in. |

| ਉਆ ਰਸ ਮਹਿ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ਬਿਖੈ ਜਲਨਿ ਬੁਝਾਵਉ ॥੨॥ |
| ouaa ras mehi saanth thripath hoe bikhai jalan bujhaavo ||2|| |
| That sublime essence calms and soothes me, and quenches the fire of sin and corruption. ||2|| |
|
| ਜਬ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਸੰਤ ਮੰਡਲੀ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਮਿਲਿ ਹਰਿ ਗਾਵਉ ॥ |
| jab bhagath karehi santh manddalee thinh mil har gaavo || |
| When the galaxy of Saints worship the Lord in devotion, I join them, singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. |

| ਕਰਉ ਨਮਸਕਾਰ ਭਗਤ ਜਨ ਧੂਰਿ ਮੁਖਿ ਲਾਵਉ ॥੩॥ |
| karo namasakaar bhagath jan dhhoor mukh laavo ||3|| |
| I bow in reverence to the humble devotees, and apply the dust of their feet to my face. ||3|| |
|
| ਊਠਤ ਬੈਠਤ ਜਪਉ ਨਾਮੁ ਇਹੁ ਕਰਮੁ ਕਮਾਵਉ ॥ |
| oothath baithath japo naam eihu karam kamaavo || |
| Sitting down and standing up, I chant the Naam, the Name of the Lord; this is what I do. |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਕੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਹਰਿ ਸਰਨਿ ਸਮਾਵਉ ॥੪॥੨੧॥੫੧॥ |
| naanak kee prabh baenathee har saran samaavo ||4||21||51|| |
| This is Nanak's prayer to God, that he may merge in the Lord's Sanctuary. ||4||21||51|| |

| He alone crosses over this world-ocean, who sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord. |

| ਸੁਣਿ ਸੁਣਿ ਜੀਵੈ ਦਾਸੁ ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਬਾਣੀ ਜਨ ਆਖੀ ॥ |
| sun sun jeevai dhaas thumh baanee jan aakhee || |
| Your slave lives by hearing, hearing the Word of Your Bani, chanted by Your humble servant. |

| ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਭਈ ਸਭ ਲੋਅ ਮਹਿ ਸੇਵਕ ਕੀ ਰਾਖੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| pragatt bhee sabh loa mehi saevak kee raakhee ||1|| rehaao || |
| The Guru is revealed in all the worlds; He saves the honor of His servant. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਅਗਨਿ ਸਾਗਰ ਤੇ ਕਾਢਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਜਲਨਿ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥ |
| agan saagar thae kaadtiaa prabh jalan bujhaaee || |
| God has pulled me out of the ocean of fire, and quenched my burning thirst. |

| ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਲੁ ਸੰਚਿਆ ਗੁਰ ਭਏ ਸਹਾਈ ॥੨॥ |
| anmrith naam jal sanchiaa gur bheae sehaaee ||2|| |
| The Guru has sprinkled the Ambrosial Water of the Naam, the Name of the Lord; He has become my Helper. ||2|| |
|
| ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਦੁਖ ਕਾਟਿਆ ਸੁਖ ਕਾ ਥਾਨੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ |
| janam maran dhukh kaattiaa sukh kaa thhaan paaeiaa || |
| The pains of birth and death are removed, and I have obtained a resting place of peace. |
|
| ਕਾਟੀ ਸਿਲਕ ਭ੍ਰਮ ਮੋਹ ਕੀ ਅਪਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਇਆ ॥੩॥ |
| kaattee silak bhram moh kee apanae prabh bhaaeiaa ||3|| |
| The noose of doubt and emotional attachment has been snapped; I have become pleasing to my God. ||3|| |
|
| ਮਤ ਕੋਈ ਜਾਣਹੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਕਛੁ ਸਭ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੈ ਹਾਥਿ ॥ |
| math koee jaanahu avar kashh sabh prabh kai haathh || |
| Let no one think that there is any other at all; everything is in the Hands of God. |

| ਸਰਬ ਸੂਖ ਨਾਨਕ ਪਾਏ ਸੰਗਿ ਸੰਤਨ ਸਾਥਿ ॥੪॥੨੨॥੫੨॥ |
| sarab sookh naanak paaeae sang santhan saathh ||4||22||52|| |
| Nanak has found total peace, in the Society of the Saints. ||4||22||52|| |

| My bonds have been snapped; God Himself has become compassionate. |

| ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਨਦਰਿ ਨਿਹਾਲ ॥੧॥ |
| dheen dhaeiaal prabh paarabreham thaa kee nadhar nihaal ||1|| |
| The Supreme Lord God is Merciful to the meek; by His Glance of Grace, I am in ecstasy. ||1|| |

| ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੀ ਕਾਟਿਆ ਦੁਖੁ ਰੋਗੁ ॥ |
| gur poorai kirapaa karee kaattiaa dhukh rog || |
| The Perfect Guru has shown mercy to me, and eradicated my pains and illnesses. |

| ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਸੁਖੀ ਭਇਆ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਧਿਆਵਨ ਜੋਗੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| man than seethal sukhee bhaeiaa prabh dhhiaavan jog ||1|| rehaao || |
| My mind and body have been cooled and soothed, meditating on God, most worthy of meditation. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਅਉਖਧੁ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੈ ਜਿਤੁ ਰੋਗੁ ਨ ਵਿਆਪੈ ॥ |
| aoukhadhh har kaa naam hai jith rog n viaapai || |
| The Name of the Lord is the medicine to cure all disease; with it, no disease afflicts me. |

| ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਹਿਤੈ ਫਿਰਿ ਦੂਖੁ ਨ ਜਾਪੈ ॥੨॥ |
| saadhhasang man than hithai fir dhookh n jaapai ||2|| |
| In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, the mind and body are tinged with the Lord's Love, and I do not suffer pain any longer. ||2|| |
|
| ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਾਪੀਐ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ॥ |
| har har har har jaapeeai anthar liv laaee || |
| I chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, Har, Har, lovingly centering my inner being on Him. |

| ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਉਤਰਹਿ ਸੁਧੁ ਹੋਇ ਸਾਧੂ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥੩॥ |
| kilavikh outharehi sudhh hoe saadhhoo saranaaee ||3|| |
| Sinful mistakes are erased and I am sanctified, in the Sanctuary of the Holy Saints. ||3|| |
|
| ਸੁਨਤ ਜਪਤ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਜਸੁ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਦੂਰਿ ਬਲਾਈ ॥ |
| sunath japath har naam jas thaa kee dhoor balaaee || |
| Misfortune is kept far away from those who hear and chant the Praises of the Lord's Name. |

| Nanak chants the Mahaa Mantra, the Great Mantra, singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||4||23||53|| |

| From the Fear of God, devotion wells up, and deep within, there is peace. |

| ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਤ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਕਾ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਭ੍ਰਮ ਭ੍ਰਾਂਤਿ ॥੧॥ |
| naam japath govindh kaa binasai bhram bhraanth ||1|| |
| Chanting the Name of the Lord of the Universe, doubt and delusions are dispelled. ||1|| |
|
| ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਜਿਸੁ ਭੇਟਿਆ ਤਾ ਕੈ ਸੁਖਿ ਪਰਵੇਸੁ ॥ |
| gur pooraa jis bhaettiaa thaa kai sukh paravaes || |
| One who meets with the Perfect Guru, is blessed with peace. |

| ਮਨ ਕੀ ਮਤਿ ਤਿਆਗੀਐ ਸੁਣੀਐ ਉਪਦੇਸੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |

| So renounce the intellectual cleverness of your mind, and listen to the Teachings. ||1||Pause|| |

| Meditate, meditate, meditate in remembrance on the Primal Lord, the Great Giver. |

| ਮਨ ਤੇ ਕਬਹੁ ਨ ਵੀਸਰੈ ਸੋ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਅਪਾਰੁ ॥੨॥ |

| May I never forget that Primal, Infinite Lord from my mind. ||2|| |

| I have enshrined love for the Lotus Feet of the Wondrous Divine Guru. |

| One who is blessed by Your Mercy, God, is committed to Your service. ||3|| |

| ਨਿਧਿ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀਆ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਆਨੰਦ ॥ |
| nidhh nidhhaan anmrith peeaa man than aanandh || |
| I drink in the Ambrosial Nectar, the treasure of wealth, and my mind and body are in bliss. |
