| ਦੂਜੀ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਦਰਦੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥ |
| dhoojee dhuramath dharadh n jaae || |
| In duality, the pain of their evil-mindedness does not leave them. |

| ਛੂਟੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਦਾਰੂ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇ ॥੩॥ |
| shhoottai guramukh dhaaroo gun gaae ||3|| |
| But the Gurmukh is emancipated by taking the medicine, and singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||3|| |

| ਧੋਤੀ ਊਜਲ ਤਿਲਕੁ ਗਲਿ ਮਾਲਾ ॥ |
| dhhothee oojal thilak gal maalaa || |
| He may wear a clean loin-cloth, apply the ceremonial mark to his forehead, and wear a mala around his neck; |

| ਅੰਤਰਿ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਪੜਹਿ ਨਾਟ ਸਾਲਾ ॥ |
| anthar krodhh parrehi naatt saalaa || |
| but if there is anger within him, he is merely reading his part, like an actor in a play. |
|
| ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਮਦੁ ਪੀਆ ॥ |
| naam visaar maaeiaa madh peeaa || |
| Forgetting the Naam, the Name of the Lord, he drinks in the wine of Maya. |
|
| ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਭਗਤਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਥੀਆ ॥੪॥ |
| bin gur bhagath naahee sukh thheeaa ||4|| |
| Without devotional worship to the Guru, there is no peace. ||4|| |
|
| ਸੂਕਰ ਸੁਆਨ ਗਰਧਭ ਮੰਜਾਰਾ ॥ |
| sookar suaan garadhhabh manjaaraa || |
| The human is a pig, a dog, a donkey, a cat, |
|
| ਪਸੂ ਮਲੇਛ ਨੀਚ ਚੰਡਾਲਾ ॥ |
| pasoo malaeshh neech chanddaalaa || |
| a beast, a filthy, lowly wretch, an outcast, |
|
| ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਮੁਹੁ ਫੇਰੇ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਜੋਨਿ ਭਵਾਈਐ ॥ |
| gur thae muhu faerae thinh jon bhavaaeeai || |
| if he turns his face away from the Guru. He shall wander in reincarnation. |

| ਬੰਧਨਿ ਬਾਧਿਆ ਆਈਐ ਜਾਈਐ ॥੫॥ |
| bandhhan baadhhiaa aaeeai jaaeeai ||5|| |
| Bound in bondage, he comes and goes. ||5|| |
|
| ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇ ਲਹੈ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ॥ |
| gur saevaa thae lehai padhaarathh || |
| Serving the Guru, the treasure is found. |
|
| ਹਿਰਦੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਦਾ ਕਿਰਤਾਰਥੁ ॥ |
| hiradhai naam sadhaa kirathaarathh || |
| With the Naam in the heart, one always prospers. |
|
| ਸਾਚੀ ਦਰਗਹ ਪੂਛ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥ |
| saachee dharageh pooshh n hoe || |
| And in the Court of the True Lord, you shall not called to account. |
|
| ਮਾਨੇ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਸੀਝੈ ਦਰਿ ਸੋਇ ॥੬॥ |
| maanae hukam seejhai dhar soe ||6|| |
| One who obeys the Hukam of the Lord's Command, is approved at the Lord's Door. ||6|| |
|
| ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਤ ਤਿਸ ਕਉ ਜਾਣੈ ॥ |
| sathigur milai th this ko jaanai || |
| Meeting the True Guru, one knows the Lord. |
|
| ਰਹੈ ਰਜਾਈ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ॥ |
| rehai rajaaee hukam pashhaanai || |
| Understanding the Hukam of His Command, one acts according to His Will. |
|
| ਹੁਕਮੁ ਪਛਾਣਿ ਸਚੈ ਦਰਿ ਵਾਸੁ ॥ |
| hukam pashhaan sachai dhar vaas || |
| Understanding the Hukam of His Command, he dwells in the Court of the True Lord. |
|
| ਕਾਲ ਬਿਕਾਲ ਸਬਦਿ ਭਏ ਨਾਸੁ ॥੭॥ |
| kaal bikaal sabadh bheae naas ||7|| |
| Through the Shabad, death and birth are ended. ||7|| |
|
| ਰਹੈ ਅਤੀਤੁ ਜਾਣੈ ਸਭੁ ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ॥ |
| rehai atheeth jaanai sabh this kaa || |
| He remains detached, knowing that everything belongs to God. |
|
| ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਅਰਪੈ ਹੈ ਇਹੁ ਜਿਸ ਕਾ ॥ |
| than man arapai hai eihu jis kaa || |
| He dedicates his body and mind unto the One who owns them. |
|
| ਨਾ ਓਹੁ ਆਵੈ ਨਾ ਓਹੁ ਜਾਇ ॥ |
| naa ouhu aavai naa ouhu jaae || |
| He does not come, and he does not go. |
|
| ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਚੇ ਸਾਚਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੮॥੨॥ |

| O Nanak, absorbed in Truth, he merges in the True Lord. ||8||2|| |

| The world is like a crow; with its beak, it croaks spiritual wisdom. |

| ਅੰਤਰਿ ਲੋਭੁ ਝੂਠੁ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥ |
| anthar lobh jhooth abhimaan || |
| But deep within there is greed, falsehood and pride. |
|
| ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਪਾਜੁ ਲਹਗੁ ਨਿਦਾਨਿ ॥੧॥ |
| bin naavai paaj lehag nidhaan ||1|| |
| Without the Name of the Lord, your thin outer covering shall wear off, you fool. ||1|| |

| ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਚੀਤਿ ॥ |
| sathigur saev naam vasai man cheeth || |
| Serving the True Guru, the Naam shall dwell in your conscious mind. |

| ਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਚੇਤਾਵੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਹੋਰ ਝੂਠੁ ਪਰੀਤਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| gur bhaettae har naam chaethaavai bin naavai hor jhooth pareeth ||1|| rehaao || |
| Meeting with the Guru, the Name of the Lord comes to mind. Without the Name, other loves are false. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਗੁਰਿ ਕਹਿਆ ਸਾ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਵਹੁ ॥ |
| gur kehiaa saa kaar kamaavahu || |
| So do that work, which the Guru tells you to do. |

| ਸਬਦੁ ਚੀਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਸਹਜ ਘਰਿ ਆਵਹੁ ॥ |
| sabadh cheenih sehaj ghar aavahu || |
| Contemplating the Word of the Shabad, you shall come to the home of celestial bliss. |

| ਸਾਚੈ ਨਾਇ ਵਡਾਈ ਪਾਵਹੁ ॥੨॥ |
| saachai naae vaddaaee paavahu ||2|| |
| Through the True Name, you shall obtain glorious greatness. ||2|| |
|
| ਆਪਿ ਨ ਬੂਝੈ ਲੋਕ ਬੁਝਾਵੈ ॥ |
| aap n boojhai lok bujhaavai || |
| One who does not understand his own self, but still tries to instruct others, |
|
| ਮਨ ਕਾ ਅੰਧਾ ਅੰਧੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥ |
| man kaa andhhaa andhh kamaavai || |
| is mentally blind, and acts in blindness. |
|
| ਦਰੁ ਘਰੁ ਮਹਲੁ ਠਉਰੁ ਕੈਸੇ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੩॥ |
| dhar ghar mehal thour kaisae paavai ||3|| |
| How can he ever find a home and a place of rest, in the Mansion of the Lord's Presence? ||3|| |

| ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਸੇਵੀਐ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ॥ |
| har jeeo saeveeai antharajaamee || |
| Serve the Dear Lord, the Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts; |
|
| ਘਟ ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਜਿਸ ਕੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਮਾਨੀ ॥ |
| ghatt ghatt anthar jis kee joth samaanee || |
| deep within each and every heart, His Light is shining forth. |
|
| ਸਾਚਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਾਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਜਾਨੈ ॥ |
| saachaa naam saachai sabadh jaanai || |
| The True Name is known through the True Word of the Shabad. |
|
| ਆਪੈ ਆਪੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਚੂਕੈ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੈ ॥ |
| aapai aap milai chookai abhimaanai || |
| The Lord Himself meets that one who eradicates egotistical pride. |
|
| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਵਖਾਨੈ ॥੫॥ |
| guramukh naam sadhaa sadhaa vakhaanai ||5|| |
| The Gurmukh chants the Naam, forever and ever. ||5|| |

| ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਸੇਵਿਐ ਦੂਜੀ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਜਾਈ ॥ |

| Serving the True Guru, duality and evil-mindedness are taken away. |

| ਅਉਗਣ ਕਾਟਿ ਪਾਪਾ ਮਤਿ ਖਾਈ ॥ |
| aougan kaatt paapaa math khaaee || |
| Guilty mistakes are erased, and the sinful intellect is cleansed. |
|
| ਕੰਚਨ ਕਾਇਆ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੬॥ |
| kanchan kaaeiaa jothee joth samaaee ||6|| |
| One's body sparkles like gold, and one's light merges into the Light. ||6|| |
|
| ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਵਡੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥ |
| sathigur miliai vaddee vaddiaaee || |
| Meeting with the True Guru, one is blessed with glorious greatness. |
|
| ਦੁਖੁ ਕਾਟੈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸਾਈ ॥ |
| dhukh kaattai hiradhai naam vasaaee || |
| Pain is taken away, and the Naam comes to dwell within the heart. |
|
| ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈ ॥੭॥ |
| naam rathae sadhaa sukh paaee ||7|| |
| Imbued with the Naam, one finds eternal peace. ||7|| |

| ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਕਰਣੀ ਸਾਰੁ ॥ |

| Obeying the Gur's instructions, one's actions are purified. |
|

| Obeying the Guru's Instructions, one finds the state of salvation. |
|
| ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਪਰਵਾਰੈ ਸਾਧਾਰੁ ॥੮॥੧॥੩॥ |
