ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਧਾਰ ਚੁਐ ਅਤਿ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਜਿਨਿ ਪੀਆ ਤਿਨ ਹੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਲਹੀਆ ॥੬॥ |
nij ghar dhhaar chuai ath niramal jin peeaa thin hee sukh leheeaa ||6|| |
The stream of immaculate purity flows through the home of the self within; one who drinks it in, finds peace. ||6|| |

ਮਨਹਠਿ ਕਰਮ ਕਰੈ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੀ ਜਿਉ ਬਾਲਕ ਬਾਲੂ ਘਰ ਉਸਰਈਆ ॥ |
manehath karam karai abhimaanee jio baalak baaloo ghar ousareeaa || |
The stubborn-minded, egotistical, proud-minded person performs rituals, but these are like sand castles built by children. |

ਆਵੈ ਲਹਰਿ ਸਮੁੰਦ ਸਾਗਰ ਕੀ ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਭਿੰਨ ਭਿੰਨ ਢਹਿ ਪਈਆ ॥੭॥ |
aavai lehar samundh saagar kee khin mehi bhinn bhinn dtehi peeaa ||7|| |
When the waves of the ocean come in, they crumble and dissolve in an instant. ||7|| |

ਹਰਿ ਸਰੁ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਹਰਿ ਹੈ ਆਪੇ ਇਹੁ ਜਗੁ ਹੈ ਸਭੁ ਖੇਲੁ ਖੇਲਈਆ ॥ |
har sar saagar har hai aapae eihu jag hai sabh khael khaeleeaa || |
The Lord is the pool, and the Lord Himself is the ocean; this world is all a play which He has staged. |

ਜਿਉ ਜਲ ਤਰੰਗ ਜਲੁ ਜਲਹਿ ਸਮਾਵਹਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਰਮਈਆ ॥੮॥੩॥੬॥ |
jio jal tharang jal jalehi samaavehi naanak aapae aap rameeaa ||8||3||6|| |
As the waves of water merge into the water again, O Nanak, so does He merge into Himself. ||8||3||6|| |

sathigur parachai man mundhraa paaee gur kaa sabadh than bhasam dhrirreeaa || |
My mind wears the ear-rings of the True Guru's acquaintance; I apply the ashes of the Word of the Guru's Shabad to my body. |

ਅਮਰ ਪਿੰਡ ਭਏ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਿ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਦੋਊ ਮਿਟਿ ਗਈਆ ॥੧॥ |
amar pindd bheae saadhhoo sang janam maran dhooo mitt geeaa ||1|| |
By body has become immortal, in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. Both birth and death have come to an end for me. ||1|| |

kirapaa karahu madhhasoodhan maadhho mai khin khin saadhhoo charan pakheeaa ||1|| rehaao || |
Be merciful to me, O Lord; each and every instant, let me wash the Feet of the Holy. ||1||Pause|| |

ਤਜੈ ਗਿਰਸਤੁ ਭਇਆ ਬਨ ਵਾਸੀ ਇਕੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਮਨੂਆ ਟਿਕੈ ਨ ਟਿਕਈਆ ॥ |
thajai girasath bhaeiaa ban vaasee eik khin manooaa ttikai n ttikeeaa || |
Forsaking family life, he wanders in the forest, but his mind does not remain at rest, even for an instant. |

ਧਾਵਤੁ ਧਾਇ ਤਦੇ ਘਰਿ ਆਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਸਰਣਿ ਪਵਈਆ ॥੨॥ |
dhhaavath dhhaae thadhae ghar aavai har har saadhhoo saran paveeaa ||2|| |
The wandering mind returns home, only when it seeks the Sanctuary of the Lord's Holy people. ||2|| |

ਧੀਆ ਪੂਤ ਛੋਡਿ ਸੰਨਿਆਸੀ ਆਸਾ ਆਸ ਮਨਿ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਕਰਈਆ ॥ |
dhheeaa pooth shhodd sanniaasee aasaa aas man bahuth kareeaa || |
The Sannyaasi renounces his daughters and sons, but his mind still conjures up all sorts of hopes and desires. |

ਆਸਾ ਆਸ ਕਰੈ ਨਹੀ ਬੂਝੈ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਨਿਰਾਸ ਸੁਖੁ ਲਹੀਆ ॥੩॥ |
aasaa aas karai nehee boojhai gur kai sabadh niraas sukh leheeaa ||3|| |
With these hopes and desires, he still does not understand, that only through the Word of the Guru's Shabad does one become free of desires, and find peace. ||3|| |

ਉਪਜੀ ਤਰਕ ਦਿਗੰਬਰੁ ਹੋਆ ਮਨੁ ਦਹ ਦਿਸ ਚਲਿ ਚਲਿ ਗਵਨੁ ਕਰਈਆ ॥ |
oupajee tharak dhiganbar hoaa man dheh dhis chal chal gavan kareeaa || |
When detachment from the world wells up within, he become a naked hermit, but still, his mind roams, wanders and rambles in the ten directions. |

ਪ੍ਰਭਵਨੁ ਕਰੈ ਬੂਝੈ ਨਹੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਮਿਲਿ ਸੰਗਿ ਸਾਧ ਦਇਆ ਘਰੁ ਲਹੀਆ ॥੪॥ |
prabhavan karai boojhai nehee thrisanaa mil sang saadhh dhaeiaa ghar leheeaa ||4|| |
He wanders around, but his desires are not satisfied; joining the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, he finds the house of kindness and compassion. ||4|| |

ਆਸਣ ਸਿਧ ਸਿਖਹਿ ਬਹੁਤੇਰੇ ਮਨਿ ਮਾਗਹਿ ਰਿਧਿ ਸਿਧਿ ਚੇਟਕ ਚੇਟਕਈਆ ॥ |
aasan sidhh sikhehi bahuthaerae man maagehi ridhh sidhh chaettak chaettakeeaa || |
The Siddhas learn many Yogis postures, but their minds still yearn for riches, miraculous powers and energy. |

ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਮਨਿ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਿਧਿ ਪਈਆ ॥੫॥ |
thripath santhokh man saanth n aavai mil saadhhoo thripath har naam sidhh peeaa ||5|| |
Satisfaction, contentment and tranquility do not come to their minds; but meeting the Holy Saints, they are satisfied, and through the Name of the Lord, spiritual perfection is attained. ||5|| |

ਅੰਡਜ ਜੇਰਜ ਸੇਤਜ ਉਤਭੁਜ ਸਭਿ ਵਰਨ ਰੂਪ ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਉਪਈਆ ॥ |
anddaj jaeraj saethaj outhabhuj sabh varan roop jeea janth oupeeaa || |
Life is born from the egg, from the womb, from sweat and from the earth; God created the beings and creatures of all colors and forms. |

ਸਾਧੂ ਸਰਣਿ ਪਰੈ ਸੋ ਉਬਰੈ ਖਤ੍ਰੀ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣੁ ਸੂਦੁ ਵੈਸੁ ਚੰਡਾਲੁ ਚੰਡਈਆ ॥੬॥ |
saadhhoo saran parai so oubarai khathree braahaman soodh vais chanddaal chanddeeaa ||6|| |
One who seeks the Sanctuary of the Holy is saved, whether he is a Kh'shaatriya, a Brahmin, a Soodra, a Vaishya or the most untouchable of the untouchables. ||6|| |

Naam Dayv, Jai Dayv, Kabeer, Trilochan and Ravi Daas the low-caste leather-worker, |

ਜੋ ਜੋ ਮਿਲੈ ਸਾਧੂ ਜਨ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਧਨੁ ਧੰਨਾ ਜਟੁ ਸੈਣੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਦਈਆ ॥੭॥ |
jo jo milai saadhhoo jan sangath dhhan dhhannaa jatt sain miliaa har dheeaa ||7|| |
blessed Dhanna and Sain; all those who joined the humble Saadh Sangat, met the Merciful Lord. ||7|| |

ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਕੀ ਹਰਿ ਪੈਜ ਰਖਾਈ ਭਗਤਿ ਵਛਲੁ ਅੰਗੀਕਾਰੁ ਕਰਈਆ ॥ |
santh janaa kee har paij rakhaaee bhagath vashhal angeekaar kareeaa || |
The Lord protects the honor of His humble servants; He is the Lover of His devotees - He makes them His own. |

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਰਣਿ ਪਰੇ ਜਗਜੀਵਨ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰਿ ਰਖਈਆ ॥੮॥੪॥੭॥ |
naanak saran parae jagajeevan har har kirapaa dhhaar rakheeaa ||8||4||7|| |
Nanak has entered the Sanctuary of the Lord, the Life of the world, who has showered His Mercy upon him, and saved him. ||8||||4||7|| |

man kee birathhaa man hee jaanai avar k jaanai ko peer pareeaa ||1|| |
The pain of my mind is known only to my own mind; who can know the pain of another? ||1|| |

ਰਾਮ ਗੁਰਿ ਮੋਹਨਿ ਮੋਹਿ ਮਨੁ ਲਈਆ ॥ |
raam gur mohan mohi man leeaa || |
The Lord, the Guru, the Enticer, has enticed my mind. |

ਹਉ ਆਕਲ ਬਿਕਲ ਭਈ ਗੁਰ ਦੇਖੇ ਹਉ ਲੋਟ ਪੋਟ ਹੋਇ ਪਈਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
ho aakal bikal bhee gur dhaekhae ho lott pott hoe peeaa ||1|| rehaao || |
I am stunned and amazed, gazing upon my Guru; I have entered the realm of wonder and bliss. ||1||Pause|| |

ਹਉ ਨਿਰਖਤ ਫਿਰਉ ਸਭਿ ਦੇਸ ਦਿਸੰਤਰ ਮੈ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦੇਖਨ ਕੋ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਮਨਿ ਚਈਆ ॥ |
ho nirakhath firo sabh dhaes dhisanthar mai prabh dhaekhan ko bahuth man cheeaa || |
I wander around, exploring all lands and foreign countries; within my mind, I have such a great longing to see my God. |

ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਕਾਟਿ ਦੇਉ ਗੁਰ ਆਗੈ ਜਿਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮਾਰਗੁ ਪੰਥੁ ਦਿਖਈਆ ॥੨॥ |
man than kaatt dhaeo gur aagai jin har prabh maarag panthh dhikheeaa ||2|| |
I sacrifice my mind and body to the Guru, who has shown me the Way, the Path to my Lord God. ||2|| |

ਕੋਈ ਆਣਿ ਸਦੇਸਾ ਦੇਇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੇਰਾ ਰਿਦ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਮੀਠ ਲਗਈਆ ॥ |
koee aan sadhaesaa dhaee prabh kaeraa ridh anthar man than meeth lageeaa || |
If only someone would bring me news of God; He seems so sweet to my heart, mind and body. |

ਮਸਤਕੁ ਕਾਟਿ ਦੇਉ ਚਰਣਾ ਤਲਿ ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮੇਲੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਈਆ ॥੩॥ |
masathak kaatt dhaeo charanaa thal jo har prabh maelae mael mileeaa ||3|| |
I would cut off my head and place it under the feet of that one who leads me to meet and unite with my Lord God. ||3|| |

ਚਲੁ ਚਲੁ ਸਖੀ ਹਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪਰਬੋਧਹ ਗੁਣ ਕਾਮਣ ਕਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਲਹੀਆ ॥ |
chal chal sakhee ham prabh parabodhheh gun kaaman kar har prabh leheeaa || |
Let us go, O my companions, and understand our God; with the spell of virtue, let us obtain our Lord God. |

ਭਗਤਿ ਵਛਲੁ ਉਆ ਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਕਹੀਅਤੁ ਹੈ ਸਰਣਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤਿਸੁ ਪਾਛੈ ਪਈਆ ॥੪॥ |
bhagath vashhal ouaa ko naam keheeath hai saran prabhoo this paashhai peeaa ||4|| |
He is called the Lover of His devotees; let us follow in the footsteps of those who seek God's Sanctuary. ||4|| |

ਖਿਮਾ ਸੀਗਾਰ ਕਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਖੁਸੀਆ ਮਨਿ ਦੀਪਕ ਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਬਲਈਆ ॥ |
khimaa seegaar karae prabh khuseeaa man dheepak gur giaan baleeaa || |
If the soul-bride adorns herself with compassion and forgiveness, God is pleased, and her mind is illumined with the lamp of the Guru's wisdom. |

ਰਸਿ ਰਸਿ ਭੋਗ ਕਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਹਮ ਤਿਸੁ ਆਗੈ ਜੀਉ ਕਟਿ ਕਟਿ ਪਈਆ ॥੫॥ |
ras ras bhog karae prabh maeraa ham this aagai jeeo katt katt peeaa ||5|| |
With happiness and ecstasy, my God enjoys her; I offer each and every bit of my soul to Him. ||5|| |

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਾਰੁ ਕੰਠਿ ਹੈ ਬਨਿਆ ਮਨੁ ਮੋਤੀਚੂਰੁ ਵਡ ਗਹਨ ਗਹਨਈਆ ॥ |
har har haar kanth hai baniaa man motheechoor vadd gehan gehaneeaa || |
I have made the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, my necklace; my mind tinged with devotion is the intricate ornament of crowning glory. |

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਸਰਧਾ ਸੇਜ ਵਿਛਾਈ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਛੋਡਿ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਮਨਿ ਭਈਆ ॥੬॥ |
har har saradhhaa saej vishhaaee prabh shhodd n sakai bahuth man bheeaa ||6|| |
I have spread out my bed of faith in the Lord, Har, Har. I cannot abandon Him - my mind is filled with such a great love for Him. ||6|| |

ਕਹੈ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਕੀਜੈ ਸਭੁ ਬਾਦਿ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ਫੋਕਟ ਫੋਕਟਈਆ ॥ |
kehai prabh avar avar kishh keejai sabh baadh seegaar fokatt fokatteeaa || |
If God says one thing, and the soul-bride does something else, then all her decorations are useless and false. |

ਕੀਓ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ਮਿਲਣ ਕੈ ਤਾਈ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਲੀਓ ਸੁਹਾਗਨਿ ਥੂਕ ਮੁਖਿ ਪਈਆ ॥੭॥ |
keeou seegaar milan kai thaaee prabh leeou suhaagan thhook mukh peeaa ||7|| |
She may adorn herself to meet her Husband Lord, but still, only the virtuous soul-bride meets God, and the other's face is spat upon. ||7|| |

ਹਮ ਚੇਰੀ ਤੂ ਅਗਮ ਗੁਸਾਈ ਕਿਆ ਹਮ ਕਰਹ ਤੇਰੈ ਵਸਿ ਪਈਆ ॥ |
ham chaeree thoo agam gusaaee kiaa ham kareh thaerai vas peeaa || |
I am Your hand-maiden, O Inaccessible Lord of the Universe; what can I do by myself? I am under Your power. |

ਦਇਆ ਦੀਨ ਕਰਹੁ ਰਖਿ ਲੇਵਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਰਣਿ ਸਮਈਆ ॥੮॥੫॥੮॥ |
dhaeiaa dheen karahu rakh laevahu naanak har gur saran sameeaa ||8||5||8|| |
Be merciful, Lord, to the meek, and save them; Nanak has entered the Sanctuary of the Lord, and the Guru. ||8||5||8|| |

My mind and body are filled with love for my Inaccessible Lord and Master. Each and every instant, I am filled with immense faith and devotion. |

ਗੁਰ ਦੇਖੇ ਸਰਧਾ ਮਨ ਪੂਰੀ ਜਿਉ ਚਾਤ੍ਰਿਕ ਪ੍ਰਿਉ ਪ੍ਰਿਉ ਬੂੰਦ ਮੁਖਿ ਪਈਆ ॥੧॥ |
gur dhaekhae saradhhaa man pooree jio chaathrik prio prio boondh mukh peeaa ||1|| |
Gazing upon the Guru, my mind's faith is fulfilled, like the song-bird, which cries and cries, until the rain-drop falls into its mouth. ||1|| |

mil mil sakhee har kathhaa suneeaa || |
Join with me, join with me, O my companions, and teach me the Sermon of the Lord. |

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਦਇਆ ਕਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮੇਲੇ ਮੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਆਗੈ ਸਿਰੁ ਕਟਿ ਕਟਿ ਪਈਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
sathigur dhaeiaa karae prabh maelae mai this aagai sir katt katt peeaa ||1|| rehaao || |
The True Guru has mercifully united me with God. Cutting off my head, and chopping it into pieces, I offer it to Him. ||1||Pause|| |

ਰੋਮਿ ਰੋਮਿ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਇਕ ਬੇਦਨ ਮੈ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦੇਖੇ ਬਿਨੁ ਨੀਦ ਨ ਪਈਆ ॥ |
rom rom man than eik baedhan mai prabh dhaekhae bin needh n peeaa || |
Each and every hair on my head, and my mind and body, suffer the pains of separation; without seeing my God, I cannot sleep. |

ਬੈਦਕ ਨਾਟਿਕ ਦੇਖਿ ਭੁਲਾਨੇ ਮੈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪੀਰ ਲਗਈਆ ॥੨॥ |
baidhak naattik dhaekh bhulaanae mai hiradhai man than praem peer lageeaa ||2|| |
The doctors and healers look at me, and are perplexed. Within my heart, mind and body, I feel the pain of divine love. ||2|| |

ਹਉ ਖਿਨੁ ਪਲੁ ਰਹਿ ਨ ਸਕਉ ਬਿਨੁ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਜਿਉ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਮਲੈ ਅਮਲੀ ਮਰਿ ਗਈਆ ॥ |
ho khin pal rehi n sako bin preetham jio bin amalai amalee mar geeaa || |
I cannot live for a moment, for even an instant, without my Beloved, like the opium addict who cannot live without opium. |
