| ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਆ ਕੂੜੇ ਕਹਣ ਕਹੰਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ॥ |
| jinhee naam visaariaa koorrae kehan kehannih || |
| Those who forget the Naam, the Name of the Lord, are said to be false. |

| ਪੰਚ ਚੋਰ ਤਿਨਾ ਘਰੁ ਮੁਹਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਸੰਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ॥ |
| panch chor thinaa ghar muhanih houmai andhar sannih || |
| The five thieves plunder their homes, and egotism breaks in. |
|
| ਸਾਕਤ ਮੁਠੇ ਦੁਰਮਤੀ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਨ ਜਾਣੰਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ॥ |
| saakath muthae dhuramathee har ras n jaanannih || |
| The faithless cynics are defrauded by their own evil-mindedness; they do not know the sublime essence of the Lord. |
|
| ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਭਰਮਿ ਲੁਟਾਇਆ ਬਿਖੁ ਸਿਉ ਰਚਹਿ ਰਚੰਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ॥ |
| jinhee anmrith bharam luttaaeiaa bikh sio rachehi rachannih || |
| Those who lose the Ambrosial Nectar through doubt, remain engrossed and entangled in corruption. |
|
| ਦੁਸਟਾ ਸੇਤੀ ਪਿਰਹੜੀ ਜਨ ਸਿਉ ਵਾਦੁ ਕਰੰਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ॥ |
| dhusattaa saethee pireharree jan sio vaadh karannih || |
| They make friends with the wicked, and argue with the humble servants of the Lord. |
|
| ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਕਤ ਨਰਕ ਮਹਿ ਜਮਿ ਬਧੇ ਦੁਖ ਸਹੰਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ॥ |
| naanak saakath narak mehi jam badhhae dhukh sehannih || |
| O Nanak, the faithless cynics are bound and gagged by the Messenger of Death, and suffer agony in hell. |
|
| ਪਇਐ ਕਿਰਤਿ ਕਮਾਵਦੇ ਜਿਵ ਰਾਖਹਿ ਤਿਵੈ ਰਹੰਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ॥੧॥ |
| paeiai kirath kamaavadhae jiv raakhehi thivai rehannih ||1|| |
| They act according to the karma of the actions they committed before; as the Lord keeps them, so do they live. ||1|| |

| Third Mehl: |
|
| ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਤਾਣੁ ਨਿਤਾਣੇ ਤਿਸੁ ॥ |
| jinhee sathigur saeviaa thaan nithaanae this || |
| Those who serve the True Guru, are transformed from powerless into powerful. |
|
| ਸਾਸਿ ਗਿਰਾਸਿ ਸਦਾ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਜਮੁ ਜੋਹਿ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਤਿਸੁ ॥ |
| saas giraas sadhaa man vasai jam johi n sakai this || |
| With every breath and morsel of food, the Lord abides in their minds forever, and the Messenger of Death cannot even see them. |
|
| ਹਿਰਦੈ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਰਸੁ ਕਵਲਾ ਸੇਵਕਿ ਤਿਸੁ ॥ |
| hiradhai har har naam ras kavalaa saevak this || |
| The Name of the Lord, Har, Har, fills their hearts, and Maya is their servant. |
|
| ਹਰਿ ਦਾਸਾ ਕਾ ਦਾਸੁ ਹੋਇ ਪਰਮ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਤਿਸੁ ॥ |
| har dhaasaa kaa dhaas hoe param padhaarathh this || |
| One who becomes the slave of the Lord's slaves, obtains the greatest treasure. |
|
| ਨਾਨਕ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਜਿਸੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਵਸੈ ਹਉ ਸਦ ਕੁਰਬਾਣੈ ਤਿਸੁ ॥ |
| naanak man than jis prabh vasai ho sadh kurabaanai this || |
| O Nanak, I am forever a sacrifice to that one, within whose mind and body God dwells. |
|
| ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਕਉ ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਰਸੁ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਸਿਉ ਤਿਸੁ ॥੨॥ |
| jinh ko poorab likhiaa ras santh janaa sio this ||2|| |
| One who has such pre-ordained destiny, he alone is in love with the humble Saints. ||2|| |

| ਜੋ ਬੋਲੇ ਪੂਰਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਸੋ ਪਰਮੇਸਰਿ ਸੁਣਿਆ ॥ |
| jo bolae pooraa sathiguroo so paramaesar suniaa || |
| Whatever the Perfect True Guru says, the Transcendent Lord hears. |
|
| ਸੋਈ ਵਰਤਿਆ ਜਗਤ ਮਹਿ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਮੁਖਿ ਭਣਿਆ ॥ |
| soee varathiaa jagath mehi ghatt ghatt mukh bhaniaa || |
| It pervades and permeates the whole world, and it is on the mouth of each and every being. |
|
| ਬਹੁਤੁ ਵਡਿਆਈਆ ਸਾਹਿਬੈ ਨਹ ਜਾਹੀ ਗਣੀਆ ॥ |
| bahuth vaddiaaeeaa saahibai neh jaahee ganeeaa || |
| So numerous are the great glories of the Lord, they cannot even be counted. |
|
| ਸਚੁ ਸਹਜੁ ਅਨਦੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸਿ ਸਚੀ ਗੁਰ ਮਣੀਆ ॥ |
| sach sehaj anadh sathiguroo paas sachee gur maneeaa || |
| Truth, poise and bliss rest in the True Guru; the Guru bestows the jewel of Truth. |
|
| ਨਾਨਕ ਸੰਤ ਸਵਾਰੇ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮਿ ਸਚੇ ਜਿਉ ਬਣਿਆ ॥੧੨॥ |
| naanak santh savaarae paarabreham sachae jio baniaa ||12|| |
| O Nanak, the Supreme Lord God embellishes the Saints, who become like the True Lord. ||12|| |

| ਅਪਣਾ ਆਪੁ ਨ ਪਛਾਣਈ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਜਾਤਾ ਦੂਰਿ ॥ |
| apanaa aap n pashhaanee har prabh jaathaa dhoor || |
| He does not understand himself; he believes the Lord God to be far away. |
|
| ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਵਿਸਰੀ ਕਿਉ ਮਨੁ ਰਹੈ ਹਜੂਰਿ ॥ |
| gur kee saevaa visaree kio man rehai hajoor || |
| He forgets to serve the Guru; how can his mind remain in the Lord's Presence? |
|
| ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ਝੂਠੈ ਲਾਲਚਿ ਕੂਰਿ ॥ |
| manamukh janam gavaaeiaa jhoothai laalach koor || |
| The self-willed manmukh wastes away his life in worthless greed and falsehood. |
|
| ਨਾਨਕ ਬਖਸਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਅਨੁ ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਹਦੂਰਿ ॥੧॥ |
| naanak bakhas milaaeian sachai sabadh hadhoor ||1|| |
| O Nanak, the Lord forgives, and blends them with Himself; through the True Word of the Shabad, He is ever-present. ||1|| |

|
| ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਚਾ ਸੋਹਿਲਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਗੋਵਿੰਦੁ ॥ |
| har prabh sachaa sohilaa guramukh naam govindh || |
| True is the Praise of the Lord God; the Gurmukh chants the Name of the Lord of the Universe. |
|
| ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਲਾਹਣਾ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿਆ ਮਨਿ ਆਨੰਦੁ ॥ |
| anadhin naam salaahanaa har japiaa man aanandh || |
| Praising the Naam night and day, and meditating on the Lord, the mind becomes blissful. |
|
| ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਪੂਰਨੁ ਪਰਮਾਨੰਦੁ ॥ |
| vaddabhaagee har paaeiaa pooran paramaanandh || |
| By great good fortune, I have found the Lord, the perfect embodiment of supreme bliss. |

| ਕੋਈ ਨਿੰਦਕੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਕਾ ਫਿਰਿ ਸਰਣਿ ਗੁਰ ਆਵੈ ॥ |
| koee nindhak hovai sathiguroo kaa fir saran gur aavai || |
| If someone slanders the True Guru, and then comes seeking the Guru's Protection |
|
| ਪਿਛਲੇ ਗੁਨਹ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਬਖਸਿ ਲਏ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਨਾਲਿ ਰਲਾਵੈ ॥ |
| pishhalae guneh sathigur bakhas leae sathasangath naal ralaavai || |
| the True Guru forgives him for his past sins, and unites him with the Saints' Congregation. |
|
| ਜਿਉ ਮੀਹਿ ਵੁਠੈ ਗਲੀਆ ਨਾਲਿਆ ਟੋਭਿਆ ਕਾ ਜਲੁ ਜਾਇ ਪਵੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਸੁਰਸਰੀ ਸੁਰਸਰੀ ਮਿਲਤ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰੁ ਪਾਵਨੁ ਹੋਇ ਜਾਵੈ ॥ |
| jio meehi vuthai galeeaa naaliaa ttobhiaa kaa jal jaae pavai vich surasaree surasaree milath pavithra paavan hoe jaavai || |
| When the rain falls, the water in the streams, rivers and ponds flows into the Ganges; flowing into the Ganges, it is made sacred and pure. |
|
| ਏਹ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਨਿਰਵੈਰ ਵਿਚਿ ਜਿਤੁ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਤਿਸਨਾ ਭੁਖ ਉਤਰੈ ਹਰਿ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਤੜ ਆਵੈ ॥ |
| eaeh vaddiaaee sathigur niravair vich jith miliai thisanaa bhukh outharai har saanth tharr aavai || |
| Such is the glorious greatness of the True Guru, who has no vengeance; meeting with Him, thirst and hunger are quenched, and instantly, one attains celestial peace. |
|
| ਨਾਨਕ ਇਹੁ ਅਚਰਜੁ ਦੇਖਹੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਸਚੇ ਸਾਹ ਕਾ ਜਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੋ ਮੰਨੈ ਸੁ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਭਾਵੈ ॥੧੩॥੧॥ ਸੁਧੁ ॥ |

| aiso eihu sansaar paekhanaa rehan n kooo peehai rae || |
| This world is a drama; no one can remain here. |
|
| ਸੂਧੇ ਸੂਧੇ ਰੇਗਿ ਚਲਹੁ ਤੁਮ ਨਤਰ ਕੁਧਕਾ ਦਿਵਈਹੈ ਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| soodhhae soodhhae raeg chalahu thum nathar kudhhakaa dhiveehai rae ||1|| rehaao || |
| Walk the straight path; otherwise, you will be pushed around. ||1||Pause|| |
|
| ਬਾਰੇ ਬੂਢੇ ਤਰੁਨੇ ਭਈਆ ਸਭਹੂ ਜਮੁ ਲੈ ਜਈਹੈ ਰੇ ॥ |
| baarae boodtae tharunae bheeaa sabhehoo jam lai jeehai rae || |
| The children, the young and the old, O Siblings of Destiny, will be taken away by the Messenger of Death. |
|
| ਮਾਨਸੁ ਬਪੁਰਾ ਮੂਸਾ ਕੀਨੋ ਮੀਚੁ ਬਿਲਈਆ ਖਈਹੈ ਰੇ ॥੧॥ |
| maanas bapuraa moosaa keeno meech bileeaa kheehai rae ||1|| |
| The Lord has made the poor man a mouse, and the cat of Death is eating him up. ||1|| |
|
| ਧਨਵੰਤਾ ਅਰੁ ਨਿਰਧਨ ਮਨਈ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਕਾਨੀ ਰੇ ॥ |
| dhhanavanthaa ar niradhhan manee thaa kee kashhoo n kaanee rae || |
| It gives no special consideration to either the rich or the poor. |
|
| ਰਾਜਾ ਪਰਜਾ ਸਮ ਕਰਿ ਮਾਰੈ ਐਸੋ ਕਾਲੁ ਬਡਾਨੀ ਰੇ ॥੨॥ |
| raajaa parajaa sam kar maarai aiso kaal baddaanee rae ||2|| |
| The king and his subjects are equally killed; such is the power of Death. ||2|| |
|
| ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਭਾਏ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਕੀ ਕਥਾ ਨਿਰਾਰੀ ਰੇ ॥ |
| har kae saevak jo har bhaaeae thinh kee kathhaa niraaree rae || |
| Those who are pleasing to the Lord are the servants of the Lord; their story is unique and singular. |

| ਆਵਹਿ ਨ ਜਾਹਿ ਨ ਕਬਹੂ ਮਰਤੇ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਸੰਗਾਰੀ ਰੇ ॥੩॥ |
| aavehi n jaahi n kabehoo marathae paarabreham sangaaree rae ||3|| |
| They do not come and go, and they never die; they remain with the Supreme Lord God. ||3|| |

| ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਕਲਤ੍ਰ ਲਛਿਮੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਇਹੈ ਤਜਹੁ ਜੀਅ ਜਾਨੀ ਰੇ ॥ |
| puthr kalathr lashhimee maaeiaa eihai thajahu jeea jaanee rae || |
| Know this in your soul, that by renouncing your children, spouse, wealth and property |

| ਕਹਤ ਕਬੀਰੁ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਰੇ ਸੰਤਹੁ ਮਿਲਿਹੈ ਸਾਰਿਗਪਾਨੀ ਰੇ ॥੪॥੧॥ |
| kehath kabeer sunahu rae santhahu milihai saarigapaanee rae ||4||1|| |
