| This shaven-headed mendicant has wasted all his wealth. |

| All this coming and going has irritated him. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਤੁਰੀ ਨਾਰਿ ਕੀ ਛੋਡੀ ਬਾਤਾ ॥ |
| thuree naar kee shhoddee baathaa || |
| He has given up all talk of his weaving equipment. |

| ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਵਾ ਕਾ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਤਾ ॥ |
| raam naam vaa kaa man raathaa || |
| His mind is attuned to the Lord's Name. |
 |
| ਲਰਿਕੀ ਲਰਿਕਨ ਖੈਬੋ ਨਾਹਿ ॥ |
| larikee larikan khaibo naahi || |
| His daughters and sons have nothing to eat, |
 |
| ਮੁੰਡੀਆ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਧਾਪੇ ਜਾਹਿ ॥੨॥ |
| munddeeaa anadhin dhhaapae jaahi ||2|| |
| while the shaven-headed mendicants night and day eat their fill. ||2|| |

| ਇਕ ਦੁਇ ਮੰਦਰਿ ਇਕ ਦੁਇ ਬਾਟ ॥ |
| eik dhue mandhar eik dhue baatt || |
| One or two are in the house, and one or two more are on the way. |

| ਹਮ ਕਉ ਸਾਥਰੁ ਉਨ ਕਉ ਖਾਟ ॥ |
| ham ko saathhar oun ko khaatt || |
| We sleep on the floor, while they sleep in the beds. |

| ਮੂਡ ਪਲੋਸਿ ਕਮਰ ਬਧਿ ਪੋਥੀ ॥ |
| moodd palos kamar badhh pothhee || |
| They rub their bare heads, and carry prayer-books in their waist-bands. |

| ਹਮ ਕਉ ਚਾਬਨੁ ਉਨ ਕਉ ਰੋਟੀ ॥੩॥ |
| ham ko chaaban oun ko rottee ||3|| |
| We get dry grains, while they get loaves of bread. ||3|| |

| ਮੁੰਡੀਆ ਮੁੰਡੀਆ ਹੂਏ ਏਕ ॥ |

| He will become one of these shaven-headed mendicants. |

| ਏ ਮੁੰਡੀਆ ਬੂਡਤ ਕੀ ਟੇਕ ॥ |

| They are the support of the drowning. |

| ਸੁਨਿ ਅੰਧਲੀ ਲੋਈ ਬੇਪੀਰਿ ॥ |

| ਰਖਵਾਰੇ ਕਾ ਹੋਇ ਬਿਨਾਸ ॥ |

| When this protector dies, |

| ਆਗੈ ਨਰਕੁ ਈਹਾ ਭੋਗ ਬਿਲਾਸ ॥੧॥ |

| he falls into the world of hell hereafter, for the sexual pleasures he enjoyed in this world. ||1|| |

| She is poison to the Saint, but the world is delighted with her. |

| Adorning herself, she sits like a prostitute. |

| ਸੰਤ ਕੀ ਠਿਠਕੀ ਫਿਰੈ ਬਿਚਾਰੀ ॥੨॥ |

| Cursed by the Saints, she wanders around like a wretch. ||2|| |

| She runs around, chasing after the Saints. |

| ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਮਾਰਹੁ ਡਰੈ ॥ |

| She is afraid of being beaten by those blessed with the Guru's Grace. |

| ਸਾਕਤ ਕੀ ਓਹ ਪਿੰਡ ਪਰਾਇਣਿ ॥ |

| She is the body, the breath of life, of the faithless cynics. |

| ਹਮ ਕਉ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਪਰੈ ਤ੍ਰਖਿ ਡਾਇਣਿ ॥੩॥ |

| She appears to me like a blood-thirsty witch. ||3|| |

| the guests who come there depart still hungry. |

| ਵਾ ਕੈ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਨਹੀ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ॥ |
| vaa kai anthar nehee santhokh || |
| Deep within, there is no contentment. |

| ਬਿਨੁ ਸੋਹਾਗਨਿ ਲਾਗੈ ਦੋਖੁ ॥੧॥ |
| bin sohaagan laagai dhokh ||1|| |
| Without his bride, the wealth of Maya, he suffers in pain. ||1|| |

| ਧਨੁ ਸੋਹਾਗਨਿ ਮਹਾ ਪਵੀਤ ॥ਤਪੇ ਤਪੀਸਰ ਡੋਲੈ ਚੀਤ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| dhhan sohaagan mehaa paveeth || thapae thapeesar ddolai cheeth ||1|| rehaao || |
| So praise this bride, which can shake the consciousness of even the most dedicated ascetics and sages. ||1||Pause|| |

| This bride is the daughter of a wretched miser. |

| ਸੇਵਕ ਤਜਿ ਜਗਤ ਸਿਉ ਸੂਤੀ ॥ |
| saevak thaj jagath sio soothee || |
| Abandoning the Lord's servant, she sleeps with the world. |
 |
| ਸਾਧੂ ਕੈ ਠਾਢੀ ਦਰਬਾਰਿ ॥ |
| saadhhoo kai thaadtee dharabaar || |
| Standing at the door of the holy man, |
 |
| ਸਰਨਿ ਤੇਰੀ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਨਿਸਤਾਰਿ ॥੨॥ |
| saran thaeree mo ko nisathaar ||2|| |
| she says, ""I have come to your sanctuary; now save me!""||2|| |

| ਸੋਹਾਗਨਿ ਹੈ ਅਤਿ ਸੁੰਦਰੀ ॥ |

| This bride is so beautiful. |

| ਪਗ ਨੇਵਰ ਛਨਕ ਛਨਹਰੀ ॥ |
| pag naevar shhanak shhaneharee || |
| The bells on her ankles make soft music. |
 |
| ਜਉ ਲਗੁ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਤਊ ਲਗੁ ਸੰਗੇ ॥ |
| jo lag praan thoo lag sangae || |
| As long as there is the breath of life in the man, she remains attached to him. |
 |
| ਨਾਹਿ ਤ ਚਲੀ ਬੇਗਿ ਉਠਿ ਨੰਗੇ ॥੩॥ |
| naahi th chalee baeg outh nangae ||3|| |
| But when it is no more, she quickly gets up and departs, bare-footed. ||3|| |

| ਸੋਹਾਗਨਿ ਭਵਨ ਤ੍ਰੈ ਲੀਆ ॥ |

| This bride has conquered the three worlds. |

| ਦਸ ਅਠ ਪੁਰਾਣ ਤੀਰਥ ਰਸ ਕੀਆ ॥ |
| dhas ath puraan theerathh ras keeaa || |
| The eighteen Puraanas and the sacred shrines of pilgrimage love her as well. |

| ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਬਿਸਨੁ ਮਹੇਸਰ ਬੇਧੇ ॥ |

| She pierced the hearts of Brahma, Shiva and Vishnu. |
