eaek chalae ham dhaekheh suaamee bhaahi balanthee aaee ||3|| |
I see that some have already gone, O my Lord and Master; the burning fire is coming closer! ||3|| |

ਨ ਕਿਸੀ ਕਾ ਮੀਤੁ ਨ ਕਿਸੀ ਕਾ ਭਾਈ ਨਾ ਕਿਸੈ ਬਾਪੁ ਨ ਮਾਈ ॥ |
n kisee kaa meeth n kisee kaa bhaaee naa kisai baap n maaee || |
No one has any friend, and no one has any brother; no one has any father or mother. |

ਪ੍ਰਣਵਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਜੇ ਤੂ ਦੇਵਹਿ ਅੰਤੇ ਹੋਇ ਸਖਾਈ ॥੪॥੧॥ |

ਜਹ ਜਹ ਦੇਖਾ ਤਹ ਨਰਹਰੀ ॥੧॥ |
jeh jeh dhaekhaa theh nareharee ||1|| |
Wherever I look, there I see the Lord. ||1|| |

ਜੀਵਨ ਤਲਬ ਨਿਵਾਰਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥ |
jeevan thalab nivaar suaamee || |
Please rid me of the desire to live, O my Lord and Master. |

My mind is entangled in the deep dark pit of Maya. How can I cross over, O Lord and Master? ||1||Pause|| |

ਜਹ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਘਟ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਬਸਿਆ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਕਾਹੇ ਨਾਹੀ ॥ |
jeh bheethar ghatt bheethar basiaa baahar kaahae naahee || |
He dwells deep within, inside the heart; how can He not be outside as well? |

ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਸਾਰ ਕਰੇ ਨਿਤ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸਦਾ ਚਿੰਤ ਮਨ ਮਾਹੀ ॥੨॥ |
thin kee saar karae nith saahib sadhaa chinth man maahee ||2|| |
Our Lord and Master always takes care of us, and keeps us in His thoughts. ||2|| |

ਆਪੇ ਨੇੜੈ ਆਪੇ ਦੂਰਿ ॥ |
aapae naerrai aapae dhoor || |
He Himself is near at hand, and He is far away. |
|
ਆਪੇ ਸਰਬ ਰਹਿਆ ਭਰਪੂਰਿ ॥ |
aapae sarab rehiaa bharapoor || |
He Himself is all-pervading, permeating everywhere. |

ਜਹ ਦੇਖਾ ਤਹ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੩॥ |
jeh dhaekhaa theh rehiaa samaae ||3|| |
Wherever I look, there I see Him pervading. ||3|| |

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਹਸਾ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਨੈਣੀ ਲਾਗਸਿ ਬਾਣੀ ॥ |
anthar sehasaa baahar maaeiaa nainee laagas baanee || |
There is doubt within me, and Maya is outside; it hits me in the eyes like an arrow. |

ਪ੍ਰਣਵਤਿ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਦਾਸਨਿ ਦਾਸਾ ਪਰਤਾਪਹਿਗਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ॥੪॥੨॥ |
pranavath naanak dhaasan dhaasaa parathaapehigaa praanee ||4||2|| |
Prays Nanak, the slave of the Lord's slaves: such a mortal suffers terribly. ||4||2|| |

ਜਿਤੁ ਦਰਿ ਵਸਹਿ ਕਵਨੁ ਦਰੁ ਕਹੀਐ ਦਰਾ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਦਰੁ ਕਵਨੁ ਲਹੈ ॥ |
jith dhar vasehi kavan dhar keheeai dharaa bheethar dhar kavan lehai || |
Where is that door, where You live, O Lord? What is that door called? Among all doors, who can find that door? |

ਜਿਸੁ ਦਰ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਫਿਰਾ ਉਦਾਸੀ ਸੋ ਦਰੁ ਕੋਈ ਆਇ ਕਹੈ ॥੧॥ |
jis dhar kaaran firaa oudhaasee so dhar koee aae kehai ||1|| |
For the sake of that door, I wander around sadly, detached from the world; if only someone would come and tell me about that door. ||1|| |

ਕਿਨ ਬਿਧਿ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਤਰੀਐ ॥ |
kin bidhh saagar thareeai || |
How can I cross over the world-ocean? |

ਜੀਵਤਿਆ ਨਹ ਮਰੀਐ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |

ਦੁਖੁ ਦਰਵਾਜਾ ਰੋਹੁ ਰਖਵਾਲਾ ਆਸਾ ਅੰਦੇਸਾ ਦੁਇ ਪਟ ਜੜੇ ॥ |
dhukh dharavaajaa rohu rakhavaalaa aasaa andhaesaa dhue patt jarrae || |
Pain is the door, and anger is the guard; hope and anxiety are the two shutters. |

ਮਾਇਆ ਜਲੁ ਖਾਈ ਪਾਣੀ ਘਰੁ ਬਾਧਿਆ ਸਤ ਕੈ ਆਸਣਿ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਰਹੈ ॥੨॥ |
maaeiaa jal khaaee paanee ghar baadhhiaa sath kai aasan purakh rehai ||2|| |
Maya is the water in the moat; in the middle of this moat, he has built his home. The Primal Lord sits in the Seat of Truth. ||2|| |

ਕਿੰਤੇ ਨਾਮਾ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਿਆ ਤੁਮ ਸਰਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਅਵਰੁ ਹਰੇ ॥ |
kinthae naamaa anth n jaaniaa thum sar naahee avar harae || |
You have so many Names, Lord, I do not know their limit. There is no other equal to You. |

ਊਚਾ ਨਹੀ ਕਹਣਾ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਰਹਣਾ ਆਪੇ ਜਾਣੈ ਆਪਿ ਕਰੇ ॥੩॥ |
oochaa nehee kehanaa man mehi rehanaa aapae jaanai aap karae ||3|| |
Do not speak out loud - remain in your mind. The Lord Himself knows, and He Himself acts. ||3|| |

ਜਬ ਆਸਾ ਅੰਦੇਸਾ ਤਬ ਹੀ ਕਿਉ ਕਰਿ ਏਕੁ ਕਹੈ ॥ |
jab aasaa andhaesaa thab hee kio kar eaek kehai || |
As long as there is hope, there is anxiety; so how can anyone speak of the One Lord? |

ਆਸਾ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਰਹੈ ਨਿਰਾਸਾ ਤਉ ਨਾਨਕ ਏਕੁ ਮਿਲੈ ॥੪॥ |
aasaa bheethar rehai niraasaa tho naanak eaek milai ||4|| |
In the midst of hope, remain untouched by hope; then, O Nanak, you shall meet the One Lord. ||4|| |

ਇਨ ਬਿਧਿ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਤਰੀਐ ॥ |
ein bidhh saagar thareeai || |
In this way, you shall cross over the world-ocean. |

ਜੀਵਤਿਆ ਇਉ ਮਰੀਐ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ਦੂਜਾ ॥੩॥ |

surath sabadh saakhee maeree sinn(g)ee baajai lok sunae || |
Awareness of the Shabad and the Teachings is my horn; the people hear the sound of its vibrations. |

ਪਤੁ ਝੋਲੀ ਮੰਗਣ ਕੈ ਤਾਈ ਭੀਖਿਆ ਨਾਮੁ ਪੜੇ ॥੧॥ |
path jholee mangan kai thaaee bheekhiaa naam parrae ||1|| |
Honor is my begging-bowl, and the Naam, the Name of the Lord, is the charity I receive. ||1|| |

ਬਾਬਾ ਗੋਰਖੁ ਜਾਗੈ ॥ |
baabaa gorakh jaagai || |
O Baba, Gorakh is the Lord of the Universe; He is always awake and aware. |

ਗੋਰਖੁ ਸੋ ਜਿਨਿ ਗੋਇ ਉਠਾਲੀ ਕਰਤੇ ਬਾਰ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
gorakh so jin goe outhaalee karathae baar n laagai ||1|| rehaao || |
He alone is Gorakh, who sustains the earth; He created it in an instant. ||1||Pause|| |

ਪਾਣੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਪਵਣਿ ਬੰਧਿ ਰਾਖੇ ਚੰਦੁ ਸੂਰਜੁ ਮੁਖਿ ਦੀਏ ॥ |
paanee praan pavan bandhh raakhae chandh sooraj mukh dheeeae || |
Binding together water and air, He infused the breath of life into the body, and made the lamps of the sun and the moon. |

ਮਰਣ ਜੀਵਣ ਕਉ ਧਰਤੀ ਦੀਨੀ ਏਤੇ ਗੁਣ ਵਿਸਰੇ ॥੨॥ |
maran jeevan ko dhharathee dheenee eaethae gun visarae ||2|| |
To die and to live, He gave us the earth, but we have forgotten these blessings. ||2|| |

ਸਿਧ ਸਾਧਿਕ ਅਰੁ ਜੋਗੀ ਜੰਗਮ ਪੀਰ ਪੁਰਸ ਬਹੁਤੇਰੇ ॥ |
sidhh saadhhik ar jogee jangam peer puras bahuthaerae || |
There are so many Siddhas, seekers, Yogis, wandering pilgrims, spiritual teachers and good people. |

ਜੇ ਤਿਨ ਮਿਲਾ ਤ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਆਖਾ ਤਾ ਮਨੁ ਸੇਵ ਕਰੇ ॥੩॥ |
jae thin milaa th keerath aakhaa thaa man saev karae ||3|| |
If I meet them, I chant the Lord's Praises, and then, my mind serves Him. ||3|| |
|
ਕਾਗਦੁ ਲੂਣੁ ਰਹੈ ਘ੍ਰਿਤ ਸੰਗੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਕਮਲੁ ਰਹੈ ॥ |
kaagadh loon rehai ghrith sangae paanee kamal rehai || |
Paper and salt, protected by ghee, remain untouched by water, as the lotus remains unaffected in water. |

ਐਸੇ ਭਗਤ ਮਿਲਹਿ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਨ ਜਮੁ ਕਿਆ ਕਰੈ ॥੪॥੪॥ |
aisae bhagath milehi jan naanak thin jam kiaa karai ||4||4|| |
Those who meet with such devotees, O servant Nanak - what can death do to them? ||4||4|| |

Listen, Machhindra, to what Nanak says. |

ਵਸਗਤਿ ਪੰਚ ਕਰੇ ਨਹ ਡੋਲੈ ॥ |
vasagath panch karae neh ddolai || |
One who subdues the five passions does not waver. |
|
ਐਸੀ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਜੋਗ ਕਉ ਪਾਲੇ ॥ |
aisee jugath jog ko paalae || |
One who practices Yoga in such a way, |
|
ਆਪਿ ਤਰੈ ਸਗਲੇ ਕੁਲ ਤਾਰੇ ॥੧॥ |
aap tharai sagalae kul thaarae ||1|| |
saves himself, and saves all his generations. ||1|| |
|
ਸੋ ਅਉਧੂਤੁ ਐਸੀ ਮਤਿ ਪਾਵੈ ॥ |
so aoudhhooth aisee math paavai || |
He alone is a hermit, who attains such understanding. |

ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਸੁੰਨਿ ਸਮਾਧਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
ahinis sunn samaadhh samaavai ||1|| rehaao || |
Day and night, he remains absorbed in deepest Samaadhi. ||1||Pause|| |

ਭਿਖਿਆ ਭਾਇ ਭਗਤਿ ਭੈ ਚਲੈ ॥ |
bhikhiaa bhaae bhagath bhai chalai || |
He begs for loving devotion to the Lord, and lives in the Fear of God. |
|
ਹੋਵੈ ਸੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਸੰਤੋਖਿ ਅਮੁਲੈ ॥ |
hovai s thripath santhokh amulai || |
He is satisfied, with the priceless gift of contentment. |
|
ਧਿਆਨ ਰੂਪਿ ਹੋਇ ਆਸਣੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥ |
dhhiaan roop hoe aasan paavai || |
Becoming the embodiment of meditation, he attains the true Yogic posture. |

ਸਚਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਤਾੜੀ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਵੈ ॥੨॥ |
sach naam thaarree chith laavai ||2|| |
He focuses his consciousness in the deep trance of the True Name. ||2|| |
