In the Golden Age of Sat Yuga, everyone spoke the Truth. |

ਘਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਈ ॥ |
ghar ghar bhagath guramukh hoee || |
In each and every home, devotional worship was performed by the people, according to the Guru's Teachings. |

ਸਤਜੁਗਿ ਧਰਮੁ ਪੈਰ ਹੈ ਚਾਰਿ ॥ |
sathajug dhharam pair hai chaar || |
In that Golden Age, Dharma had four feet. |

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਕੋ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ॥੧॥ |
guramukh boojhai ko beechaar ||1|| |
How rare are those people who, as Gurmukh, contemplate this and understand. ||1|| |

ਜੁਗ ਚਾਰੇ ਨਾਮਿ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਹੋਈ ॥ |
jug chaarae naam vaddiaaee hoee || |
In all four ages, the Naam, the Name of the Lord, is glory and greatness. |

ਜਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਲਾਗੈ ਸੋ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ਕੋਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
j naam laagai so mukath hovai gur bin naam n paavai koee ||1|| rehaao || |
One who holds tight to the Naam is liberated; without the Guru, no one obtains the Naam. ||1||Pause|| |

ਤ੍ਰੇਤੈ ਇਕ ਕਲ ਕੀਨੀ ਦੂਰਿ ॥ |
thraethai eik kal keenee dhoor || |
In the Silver Age of Traytaa Yuga, one leg was removed. |
|
ਪਾਖੰਡੁ ਵਰਤਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਜਾਣਨਿ ਦੂਰਿ ॥ |
paakhandd varathiaa har jaanan dhoor || |
Hypocrisy became prevalent, and people thought that the Lord was far away. |
|
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਸੋਝੀ ਹੋਈ ॥ |
guramukh boojhai sojhee hoee || |
The Gurmukhs still understood and realized; |
|
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਈ ॥੨॥ |
anthar naam vasai sukh hoee ||2|| |
the Naam abided deep within them, and they were at peace. ||2|| |
|
ਦੁਆਪੁਰਿ ਦੂਜੈ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਹੋਇ ॥ |
dhuaapur dhoojai dhubidhhaa hoe || |
In the Brass Age of Dwaapur Yuga, duality and double-mindedness arose. |
|
ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਨੇ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਦੋਇ ॥ |
bharam bhulaanae jaanehi dhoe || |
Deluded by doubt, they knew duality. |
|
ਦੁਆਪੁਰਿ ਧਰਮਿ ਦੁਇ ਪੈਰ ਰਖਾਏ ॥ |
dhuaapur dhharam dhue pair rakhaaeae || |
In this Brass Age, Dharma was left with only two feet. |
|
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਏ ॥੩॥ |
guramukh hovai th naam dhrirraaeae ||3|| |
Those who became Gurmukh implanted the Naam deep within. ||3|| |

ਕਲਜੁਗਿ ਧਰਮ ਕਲਾ ਇਕ ਰਹਾਏ ॥ |
kalajug dhharam kalaa eik rehaaeae || |
In the Iron Age of Kali Yuga, Dharma was left with only one power. |
|
ਇਕ ਪੈਰਿ ਚਲੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਵਧਾਏ ॥ |
eik pair chalai maaeiaa mohu vadhhaaeae || |
It walks on just one foot; love and emotional attachment to Maya have increased. |
|
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਅਤਿ ਗੁਬਾਰੁ ॥ |
maaeiaa mohu ath gubaar || |
Love and emotional attachment to Maya bring total darkness. |
|
ਸਤਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਉਧਾਰੁ ॥੪॥ |
sathagur bhaettai naam oudhhaar ||4|| |
If someone meets the True Guru, he is saved, through the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||4|| |

ਸਭ ਜੁਗ ਮਹਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਏਕੋ ਸੋਈ ॥ |
sabh jug mehi saachaa eaeko soee || |
Throughout the ages, there is only the One True Lord. |
|
ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਸਚੁ ਦੂਜਾ ਨਹੀ ਕੋਈ ॥ |
sabh mehi sach dhoojaa nehee koee || |
Among all, is the True Lord; there is no other at all. |
|
ਸਾਚੀ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਸਚੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਈ ॥ |
saachee keerath sach sukh hoee || |
Praising the True Lord, true peace is attained. |
|
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਖਾਣੈ ਕੋਈ ॥੫॥ |
guramukh naam vakhaanai koee ||5|| |
How rare are those, who as Gurmukh, chant the Naam. ||5|| |

ਸਭ ਜੁਗ ਮਹਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਊਤਮੁ ਹੋਈ ॥ |
sabh jug mehi naam ootham hoee || |
Throughout all the ages, the Naam is the ultimate, the most sublime. |

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਬੂਝੈ ਕੋਈ ॥ |
guramukh viralaa boojhai koee || |
How rare are those, who as Gurmukh, understand this. |

ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਏ ਭਗਤੁ ਜਨੁ ਸੋਈ ॥ |
har naam dhhiaaeae bhagath jan soee || |
One who meditates on the Lord's Name is a humble devotee. |

ਨਾਨਕ ਜੁਗਿ ਜੁਗਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਹੋਈ ॥੬॥੧॥ |

jae vadd bhaag hovehi vaddabhaagee thaa har har naam dhhiaavai || |
If someone is very fortunate, and is blessed with great high destiny, then he meditates on the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. |

ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਤ ਨਾਮੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੇ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥੧॥ |
naam japath naamae sukh paavai har naamae naam samaavai ||1|| |
Chanting the Naam, the Name of the Lord, he finds peace, and merges in the Naam. ||1|| |

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਹੁ ਸਦ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ॥ |
guramukh bhagath karahu sadh praanee || |
O mortal, as Gurmukh, worship the Lord in devotion forever. |

ਹਿਰਦੈ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੈ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਣੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
hiradhai pragaas hovai liv laagai guramath har har naam samaanee ||1|| rehaao || |
Your heart shall be illumined; through the Guru's Teachings,lovingly attune yourself to the Lord. You shall merge in the Name of the Lord,Har, Har. ||1||Pause|| |

ਹੀਰਾ ਰਤਨ ਜਵੇਹਰ ਮਾਣਕ ਬਹੁ ਸਾਗਰ ਭਰਪੂਰੁ ਕੀਆ ॥ |
heeraa rathan javaehar maanak bahu saagar bharapoor keeaa || |
The Great Giver is filled with diamonds, emeralds, rubies and pearls; |

ਜਿਸੁ ਵਡ ਭਾਗੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਵਡ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਤਿਨਿ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਕਢਿ ਕਢਿ ਲੀਆ ॥੨॥ |
jis vadd bhaag hovai vadd masathak thin guramath kadt kadt leeaa ||2|| |
one who has good fortune and great destiny inscribed upon his forehead, digs them out, by following the Guru's Teachings. ||2|| |

ਰਤਨੁ ਜਵੇਹਰੁ ਲਾਲੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਾ ਗੁਰਿ ਕਾਢਿ ਤਲੀ ਦਿਖਲਾਇਆ ॥ |
rathan javaehar laal har naamaa gur kaadt thalee dhikhalaaeiaa || |
The Lord's Name is the jewel, the emerald, the ruby; digging it out, the Guru has placed it in your palm. |

ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਨਹੀ ਲੀਆ ਤ੍ਰਿਣ ਓਲੈ ਲਾਖੁ ਛਪਾਇਆ ॥੩॥ |
bhaageheen manamukh nehee leeaa thrin oulai laakh shhapaaeiaa ||3|| |
The unfortunate, self-willed manmukh does not obtain it; this priceless jewel remains hidden behind a curtain of straw. ||3|| |

ਮਸਤਕਿ ਭਾਗੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਧੁਰਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਤਾ ਸਤਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਾ ਲਾਏ ॥ |
masathak bhaag hovai dhhur likhiaa thaa sathagur saevaa laaeae || |
If such pre-ordained destiny is written upon one's forehead, then the True Guru enjoins him to serve Him. |

ਨਾਨਕ ਰਤਨ ਜਵੇਹਰ ਪਾਵੈ ਧਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਏ ॥੪॥੧॥ |
naanak rathan javaehar paavai dhhan dhhan guramath har paaeae ||4||1|| |
O Nanak, then he obtains the jewel, the gem; blessed, blessed is that one who follows the Guru's Teachings, and finds the Lord. ||4||1|| |

ਰਾਮ ਜਨਾ ਮਿਲਿ ਭਇਆ ਅਨੰਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਨੀਕੀ ਕਥਾ ਸੁਨਾਇ ॥ |
raam janaa mil bhaeiaa anandhaa har neekee kathhaa sunaae || |
Meeting with the humble servants of the Lord, I am in ecstasy; they preach the sublime sermon of the Lord. |

ਰਾਮ ਜਨ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਰਾਮੁ ਬੋਲਾਇ ॥ |
raam jan guramath raam bolaae || |
O humble servant of the Lord, follow the Guru's Teachings, and chant the Name of the Lord. |
|
ਜੋ ਜੋ ਸੁਣੈ ਕਹੈ ਸੋ ਮੁਕਤਾ ਰਾਮ ਜਪਤ ਸੋਹਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
jo jo sunai kehai so mukathaa raam japath sohaae ||1|| rehaao || |
Whoever hears and speaks it is liberated; chanting the Lord's Name, one is embellished with beauty. ||1||Pause|| |

ਜੇ ਵਡ ਭਾਗ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਮੁਖਿ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਮ ਜਨਾ ਭੇਟਾਇ ॥ |
jae vadd bhaag hovehi mukh masathak har raam janaa bhaettaae || |
If someone has supremely high destiny written on his forehead, the Lord leads him to meet the humble servants of the Lord. |

ਦਰਸਨੁ ਸੰਤ ਦੇਹੁ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਸਭੁ ਦਾਲਦੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਲਹਿ ਜਾਇ ॥੨॥ |
dharasan santh dhaehu kar kirapaa sabh dhaaladh dhukh lehi jaae ||2|| |
Be merciful, and grant me the Blessed Vision of the Saints' Darshan, which shall rid me of all poverty and pain. ||2|| |
|
ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਲੋਗ ਰਾਮ ਜਨ ਨੀਕੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਨ ਸੁਖਾਇ ॥ |
har kae log raam jan neekae bhaageheen n sukhaae || |
The Lord's people are good and sublime; the unfortunate ones do not like them at all. |

ਜਿਉ ਜਿਉ ਰਾਮ ਕਹਹਿ ਜਨ ਊਚੇ ਨਰ ਨਿੰਦਕ ਡੰਸੁ ਲਗਾਇ ॥੩॥ |
jio jio raam kehehi jan oochae nar nindhak ddans lagaae ||3|| |
The more the Lord's exalted servants speak of Him, the more the slanderers attack and sting them. ||3|| |

ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਨਰ ਨਿੰਦਕ ਜਿਨ ਜਨ ਨਹੀ ਭਾਏ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਸਖਾ ਸਖਾਇ ॥ |
dhhrig dhhrig nar nindhak jin jan nehee bhaaeae har kae sakhaa sakhaae || |
Cursed, cursed are the slanderers who do not like the humble, the friends and companions of the Lord. |
