thoo dhaanaa thoo abichal thoohee thoo jaath maeree paathee || |
You are wise; You are eternal and unchanging. You are my social class and honor. |

ਤੂ ਅਡੋਲੁ ਕਦੇ ਡੋਲਹਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਤਾ ਹਮ ਕੈਸੀ ਤਾਤੀ ॥੧॥ |
thoo addol kadhae ddolehi naahee thaa ham kaisee thaathee ||1|| |
You are unmoving - You never move at all. How can I be worried? ||1|| |

ਏਕੈ ਏਕੈ ਏਕ ਤੂਹੀ ॥ |

You alone are the One and only Lord; |

ਏਕੈ ਏਕੈ ਤੂ ਰਾਇਆ ॥ |

You alone are the king. |

ਤੂ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਹਮ ਹੰਸ ਤੁਮਾਰੇ ਤੁਮ ਮਹਿ ਮਾਣਕ ਲਾਲਾ ॥ |
thoo saagar ham hans thumaarae thum mehi maanak laalaa || |
You are the ocean, and I am Your swan; the pearls and rubies are in You. |

ਤੁਮ ਦੇਵਹੁ ਤਿਲੁ ਸੰਕ ਨ ਮਾਨਹੁ ਹਮ ਭੁੰਚਹ ਸਦਾ ਨਿਹਾਲਾ ॥੨॥ |
thum dhaevahu thil sank n maanahu ham bhuncheh sadhaa nihaalaa ||2|| |
You give, and You do not hesitate for an instant; I receive, forever enraptured. ||2|| |

ਹਮ ਬਾਰਿਕ ਤੁਮ ਪਿਤਾ ਹਮਾਰੇ ਤੁਮ ਮੁਖਿ ਦੇਵਹੁ ਖੀਰਾ ॥ |
ham baarik thum pithaa hamaarae thum mukh dhaevahu kheeraa || |
I am Your child, and You are my father; You place the milk in my mouth. |

ਹਮ ਖੇਲਹ ਸਭਿ ਲਾਡ ਲਡਾਵਹ ਤੁਮ ਸਦ ਗੁਣੀ ਗਹੀਰਾ ॥੩॥ |
ham khaeleh sabh laadd laddaaveh thum sadh gunee geheeraa ||3|| |
I play with You, and You caress me in every way. You are forever the ocean of excellence. ||3|| |

ਤੁਮ ਪੂਰਨ ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹੇ ਸੰਪੂਰਨ ਹਮ ਭੀ ਸੰਗਿ ਅਘਾਏ ॥ |
thum pooran poor rehae sanpooran ham bhee sang aghaaeae || |
You are perfect, perfectly all-pervading; I am fulfilled with You as well. |

ਮਿਲਤ ਮਿਲਤ ਮਿਲਤ ਮਿਲਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਏ ॥੪॥੬॥ |
milath milath milath mil rehiaa naanak kehan n jaaeae ||4||6|| |
I am merged, merged, merged and remain merged; O Nanak, I cannot describe it! ||4||6|| |

kar kar thaal pakhaavaj nainahu maathhai vajehi rabaabaa || |
Make your hands the cymbals, your eyes the tambourines, and your forehead the guitar you play. |

ਕਰਨਹੁ ਮਧੁ ਬਾਸੁਰੀ ਬਾਜੈ ਜਿਹਵਾ ਧੁਨਿ ਆਗਾਜਾ ॥ |
karanahu madhh baasuree baajai jihavaa dhhun aagaajaa || |
Let the sweet flute music resound in your ears, and with your tongue, vibrate this song. |

ਨਿਰਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਿ ਮਨੂਆ ਨਾਚੈ ਆਣੇ ਘੂਘਰ ਸਾਜਾ ॥੧॥ |
nirath karae kar manooaa naachai aanae ghooghar saajaa ||1|| |
Move your mind like the rhythmic hand-motions; do the dance, and shake your ankle bracelets. ||1|| |

ਰਾਮ ਕੋ ਨਿਰਤਿਕਾਰੀ ॥ |
raam ko nirathikaaree || |
This is the rhythmic dance of the Lord. |

ਪੇਖੈ ਪੇਖਨਹਾਰੁ ਦਇਆਲਾ ਜੇਤਾ ਸਾਜੁ ਸੀਗਾਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
paekhai paekhanehaar dhaeiaalaa jaethaa saaj seegaaree ||1|| rehaao || |
The Merciful Audience, the Lord, sees all your make-up and decorations. ||1||Pause|| |

ਆਖਾਰ ਮੰਡਲੀ ਧਰਣਿ ਸਬਾਈ ਊਪਰਿ ਗਗਨੁ ਚੰਦੋਆ ॥ |
aakhaar manddalee dhharan sabaaee oopar gagan chandhoaa || |
The whole earth is the stage, with the canopy of the sky overhead. |

ਪਵਨੁ ਵਿਚੋਲਾ ਕਰਤ ਇਕੇਲਾ ਜਲ ਤੇ ਓਪਤਿ ਹੋਆ ॥ |
pavan vicholaa karath eikaelaa jal thae oupath hoaa || |
The wind is the director; people are born of water. |

ਪੰਚ ਤਤੁ ਕਰਿ ਪੁਤਰਾ ਕੀਨਾ ਕਿਰਤ ਮਿਲਾਵਾ ਹੋਆ ॥੨॥ |
panch thath kar putharaa keenaa kirath milaavaa hoaa ||2|| |
From the five elements, the puppet was created with its actions. ||2|| |

ਚੰਦੁ ਸੂਰਜੁ ਦੁਇ ਜਰੇ ਚਰਾਗਾ ਚਹੁ ਕੁੰਟ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਰਾਖੇ ॥ |
chandh sooraj dhue jarae charaagaa chahu kuntt bheethar raakhae || |
The sun and the moon are the two lamps which shine, with the four corners of the world placed between them. |

ਦਸ ਪਾਤਉ ਪੰਚ ਸੰਗੀਤਾ ਏਕੈ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਸਾਥੇ ॥ |
dhas paatho panch sangeethaa eaekai bheethar saathhae || |
The ten senses are the dancing girls, and the five passions are the chorus; they sit together within the one body. |

ਭਿੰਨ ਭਿੰਨ ਹੋਇ ਭਾਵ ਦਿਖਾਵਹਿ ਸਭਹੁ ਨਿਰਾਰੀ ਭਾਖੇ ॥੩॥ |
bhinn bhinn hoe bhaav dhikhaavehi sabhahu niraaree bhaakhae ||3|| |
They all put on their own shows, and speak in different languages. ||3|| |
|
ਘਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਨਿਰਤਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਵਾਜੈ ਤੂਰਾ ॥ |
ghar ghar nirath hovai dhin raathee ghatt ghatt vaajai thooraa || |
In each and every home there is dancing, day and night; in each and every home, the bugles blow. |

ਏਕਿ ਨਚਾਵਹਿ ਏਕਿ ਭਵਾਵਹਿ ਇਕਿ ਆਇ ਜਾਇ ਹੋਇ ਧੂਰਾ ॥ |
eaek nachaavehi eaek bhavaavehi eik aae jaae hoe dhhooraa || |
Some are made to dance, and some are whirled around; some come and some go, and some are reduced to dust. |

ਓਅੰਕਾਰਿ ਏਕ ਧੁਨਿ ਏਕੈ ਏਕੈ ਰਾਗੁ ਅਲਾਪੈ ॥ |
ouankaar eaek dhhun eaekai eaekai raag alaapai || |
He sings the song of the One Universal Creator; he sings the tune of the One Lord. |

ਏਕਾ ਦੇਸੀ ਏਕੁ ਦਿਖਾਵੈ ਏਕੋ ਰਹਿਆ ਬਿਆਪੈ ॥ |
eaekaa dhaesee eaek dhikhaavai eaeko rehiaa biaapai || |
He lives in the land of the One Lord, shows the way to the One Lord, and remains attuned to the One Lord. |

ਏਕਾ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਏਕਾ ਹੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਏਕੋ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਜਾਪੈ ॥੧॥ |
eaekaa surath eaekaa hee saevaa eaeko gur thae jaapai ||1|| |
He centers his consciousness on the One Lord, and serves only the One Lord, who is known through the Guru. ||1|| |
|
ਭਲੋ ਭਲੋ ਰੇ ਕੀਰਤਨੀਆ ॥ |
bhalo bhalo rae keerathaneeaa || |
Blessed and good is such a kirtanee, who sings such Praises. |
|
ਰਾਮ ਰਮਾ ਰਾਮਾ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਉ ॥ |
raam ramaa raamaa gun gaao || |
He sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord, |
|
ਛੋਡਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਕੇ ਧੰਧ ਸੁਆਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
shhodd maaeiaa kae dhhandhh suaao ||1|| rehaao || |
and renounces the entanglements and pursuits of Maya. ||1||Pause|| |

ਪੰਚ ਬਜਿਤ੍ਰ ਕਰੇ ਸੰਤੋਖਾ ਸਾਤ ਸੁਰਾ ਲੈ ਚਾਲੈ ॥ |
panch bajithr karae santhokhaa saath suraa lai chaalai || |
He makes the five virtues, like contentment, his musical instruments, and plays the seven notes of the love of the Lord. |

ਬਾਜਾ ਮਾਣੁ ਤਾਣੁ ਤਜਿ ਤਾਨਾ ਪਾਉ ਨ ਬੀਗਾ ਘਾਲੈ ॥ |
baajaa maan thaan thaj thaanaa paao n beegaa ghaalai || |
The notes he plays are the renunciation of pride and power; his feet keep the beat on the straight path. |

ਫੇਰੀ ਫੇਰੁ ਨ ਹੋਵੈ ਕਬ ਹੀ ਏਕੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਬੰਧਿ ਪਾਲੈ ॥੨॥ |
faeree faer n hovai kab hee eaek sabadh bandhh paalai ||2|| |
He does not enter the cycle of reincarnation ever again; he keeps the One Word of the Shabad tied to the hem of his robe. ||2|| |

ਨਾਰਦੀ ਨਰਹਰ ਜਾਣਿ ਹਦੂਰੇ ॥ |
naaradhee narehar jaan hadhoorae || |
To play like Naarad, is to know that the Lord is ever-present. |
|
ਘੂੰਘਰ ਖੜਕੁ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਵਿਸੂਰੇ ॥ |
ghoonghar kharrak thiaag visoorae || |
The tinkling of the ankle bells is the shedding of sorrows and worries. |
|
ਸਹਜ ਅਨੰਦ ਦਿਖਾਵੈ ਭਾਵੈ ॥ |
sehaj anandh dhikhaavai bhaavai || |
The dramatic gestures of acting are celestial bliss. |
|
ਏਹੁ ਨਿਰਤਿਕਾਰੀ ਜਨਮਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥੩॥ |
eaehu nirathikaaree janam n aavai ||3|| |
Such a dancer is not reincarnated again. ||3|| |
|
ਜੇ ਕੋ ਅਪਨੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਭਾਵੈ ॥ਕੋਟਿ ਮਧਿ ਏਹੁ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਗਾਵੈ ॥ |
jae ko apanae thaakur bhaavai || kott madhh eaehu keerathan gaavai || |
If anyone, out of millions of people, becomes pleasing to his Lord and Master, he sings the Lord's Praises in this way. |

ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਕੀ ਜਾਵਉ ਟੇਕ ॥ |
saadhhasangath kee jaavo ttaek || |
I have taken the Support of the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. |
|
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਸੁ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਏਕ ॥੪॥੮॥ |
kahu naanak this keerathan eaek ||4||8|| |
Says Nanak, the Kirtan of the One Lord's Praises are sung there. ||4||8|| |

Some call Him, 'Raam, Raam', and some call Him, 'Khudaa-i'. |

ਕੋਈ ਸੇਵੈ ਗੁਸਈਆ ਕੋਈ ਅਲਾਹਿ ॥੧॥ |
koee saevai guseeaa koee alaahi ||1|| |
Some serve Him as 'Gusain', others as 'Allaah'. ||1|| |
|
ਕਾਰਣ ਕਰਣ ਕਰੀਮ ॥ |
kaaran karan kareem || |
He is the Cause of causes, the Generous Lord. |
|
ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰਿ ਰਹੀਮ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
kirapaa dhhaar reheem ||1|| rehaao || |
He showers His Grace and Mercy upon us. ||1||Pause|| |
|
ਕੋਈ ਨਾਵੈ ਤੀਰਥਿ ਕੋਈ ਹਜ ਜਾਇ ॥ |
koee naavai theerathh koee haj jaae || |
Some bathe at sacred shrines of pilgrimage, and some make the pilgrimage to Mecca.| |

ਕੋਈ ਕਰੈ ਪੂਜਾ ਕੋਈ ਸਿਰੁ ਨਿਵਾਇ ॥੨॥ |
koee karai poojaa koee sir nivaae ||2|| |
Some perform devotional worship services, and some bow their heads in prayer. ||2|| |

ਕੋਈ ਪੜੈ ਬੇਦ ਕੋਈ ਕਤੇਬ ॥ |
koee parrai baedh koee kathaeb || |
Some read the Vedas, and some the Koran. |
