| ਨਾ ਕਿਛੁ ਸੇਵਾ ਨਾ ਕਿਛੁ ਘਾਲ ॥ |
| naa kishh saevaa naa kishh ghaal || |
| I have no service or work to my credit. |

| ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਕੀਨੀ ਦਇਆ ॥ |
| kar kirapaa prabh keenee dhaeiaa || |
| In His Mercy, God has taken pity on me; |

| ਬੂਡਤ ਦੁਖ ਮਹਿ ਕਾਢਿ ਲਇਆ ॥੩॥ |
| booddath dhukh mehi kaadt laeiaa ||3|| |
| He lifted me up and pulled me out, when I was suffering in pain. ||3|| |

| ਸੁਣਿ ਸੁਣਿ ਉਪਜਿਓ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਚਾਉ ॥ |
| sun sun oupajiou man mehi chaao || |
| Listening, listening to His Praises, joy has welled up within my mind. |
|
| ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਉ ॥ |
| aath pehar har kae gun gaao || |
| Twenty-four hours a day, I sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. |
|
| ਗਾਵਤ ਗਾਵਤ ਪਰਮ ਗਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥ |
| gaavath gaavath param gath paaee || |
| Singing, singing His Praises, I have obtained the supreme status. |
|
| ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ॥੪॥੨੦॥੩੧॥ |
| gur prasaadh naanak liv laaee ||4||20||31|| |
| By Guru's Grace, Nanak is lovingly focused on the Lord. ||4||20||31|| |

| kouddee badhalai thiaagai rathan || |
| In exchange for a shell, he gives up a jewel. |
|
| ਛੋਡਿ ਜਾਇ ਤਾਹੂ ਕਾ ਜਤਨੁ ॥ |
| shhodd jaae thaahoo kaa jathan || |
| He tries to get what he must give up. |
|
| ਸੋ ਸੰਚੈ ਜੋ ਹੋਛੀ ਬਾਤ ॥ |
| so sanchai jo hoshhee baath || |
| He collects those things which are worthless. |
|
| ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿਆ ਟੇਢਉ ਜਾਤ ॥੧॥ |
| maaeiaa mohiaa ttaedto jaath ||1|| |
| Enticed by Maya, he takes the crooked path. ||1|| |

| ਅਭਾਗੇ ਤੈ ਲਾਜ ਨਾਹੀ ॥ |
| abhaagae thai laaj naahee || |
| You unfortunate man - have you no shame? |

| ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰ ਪੂਰਨ ਪਰਮੇਸਰੁ ਹਰਿ ਨ ਚੇਤਿਓ ਮਨ ਮਾਹੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| sukh saagar pooran paramaesar har n chaethiou man maahee ||1|| rehaao || |
| You do not remember in your mind the ocean of peace, the perfect Transcendent Lord God. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਕਉਰਾ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਮੀਠੀ ॥ |
| anmrith kouraa bikhiaa meethee || |
| Nectar seems bitter to you, and poison is sweet. |
|
| ਸਾਕਤ ਕੀ ਬਿਧਿ ਨੈਨਹੁ ਡੀਠੀ ॥ |
| saakath kee bidhh nainahu ddeethee || |
| Such is your condition, you faithless cynic, which I have seen with my own eyes. |
|
| ਨਾਮੁ ਸੁਨਤ ਜਨੁ ਬਿਛੂਅ ਡਸਾਨਾ ॥੨॥ |
| naam sunath jan bishhooa ddasaanaa ||2|| |
| If you hear the Naam, the Name of the Lord, you feel like you have been stung by a scorpion. ||2|| |

| ਮਾਇਆ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਝੂਰੈ ॥ |
| maaeiaa kaaran sadh hee jhoorai || |
| You continually yearn for Maya, |
|
| ਮਨਿ ਮੁਖਿ ਕਬਹਿ ਨ ਉਸਤਤਿ ਕਰੈ ॥ |
| man mukh kabehi n ousathath karai || |
| and you never chant the Lord's Praises with your mouth. |
|
| ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ਦਾਤਾਰੁ ॥ |
| nirabho nirankaar dhaathaar || |
| The Lord is fearless and formless; He is the Great Giver. |
|
| ਤਿਸੁ ਸਿਉ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਨ ਕਰੈ ਗਵਾਰੁ ॥੩॥ |
| this sio preeth n karai gavaar ||3|| |
| But you do not love Him, you fool! ||3|| |
|
| ਸਭ ਸਾਹਾ ਸਿਰਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਾਹੁ ॥ |
| sabh saahaa sir saachaa saahu || |
| God, the True King, is above the heads of all kings. |

| ਵੇਮੁਹਤਾਜੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹੁ ॥ |
| vaemuhathaaj pooraa paathisaahu || |
| He is the independent, perfect Lord King. |
|
| ਮੋਹ ਮਗਨ ਲਪਟਿਓ ਭ੍ਰਮ ਗਿਰਹ ॥ |

| People are intoxicated by emotional attachment, entangled in doubt and family life. |

| Night and day, I chant the Lord's Name. |

| ਆਗੈ ਦਰਗਹ ਪਾਵਉ ਥਾਉ ॥ |
| aagai dharageh paavo thhaao || |
| Hereafter, I shall obtain a seat in the Court of the Lord. |

| ਸਦਾ ਅਨੰਦੁ ਨ ਹੋਵੀ ਸੋਗੁ ॥ |
| sadhaa anandh n hovee sog || |
| I am in bliss forever; I have no sorrow. |
|
| ਕਬਹੂ ਨ ਬਿਆਪੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਰੋਗੁ ॥੧॥ |
| kabehoo n biaapai houmai rog ||1|| |
| The disease of ego never afflicts me. ||1|| |

| ਖੋਜਹੁ ਸੰਤਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ॥ |
| khojahu santhahu har breham giaanee || |
| O Saints of the Lord, seek out those who know God. |

| ਬਿਸਮਨ ਬਿਸਮ ਭਏ ਬਿਸਮਾਦਾ ਪਰਮ ਗਤਿ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਪਰਾਨੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| bisaman bisam bheae bisamaadhaa param gath paavehi har simar paraanee ||1|| rehaao || |
| You shall be wonderstruck with wonder at the wonderful Lord; meditate in remembrance on the Lord, O mortal, and obtain the supreme status. ||1||Pause|| |

| Calculating, measuring, and thinking in every way, |

| ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੋ ਸਕੈ ਨ ਤਾਰਿ ॥ |
| naam binaa ko sakai n thaar || |
| see that without the Naam, no one can be carried across. |
|
| ਸਗਲ ਉਪਾਵ ਨ ਚਾਲਹਿ ਸੰਗਿ ॥ |
| sagal oupaav n chaalehi sang || |
| Of all your efforts, none will go along with you. |
|
| ਭਵਜਲੁ ਤਰੀਐ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੈ ਰੰਗਿ ॥੨॥ |
| bhavajal thareeai prabh kai rang ||2|| |
| You can cross over the terrifying world-ocean only through the love of God. ||2|| |
|
| ਦੇਹੀ ਧੋਇ ਨ ਉਤਰੈ ਮੈਲੁ ॥ |
| dhaehee dhhoe n outharai mail || |
| By merely washing the body, one's filth is not removed. |
|
| ਹਉਮੈ ਬਿਆਪੈ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਫੈਲੁ ॥ |
| houmai biaapai dhubidhhaa fail || |
| Afflicted by egotism, duality only increases. |
|
| ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਅਉਖਧੁ ਜੋ ਜਨੁ ਖਾਇ ॥ |
| har har aoukhadhh jo jan khaae || |
| That humble being who takes the medicine of the Name of the Lord, Har, Har |
|
| ਤਾ ਕਾ ਰੋਗੁ ਸਗਲ ਮਿਟਿ ਜਾਇ ॥੩॥ |
| thaa kaa rog sagal mitt jaae ||3|| |
| - all his diseases are eradicated. ||3|| |
|
| ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਦਇਆਲ ॥ |
| kar kirapaa paarabreham dhaeiaal || |
| Take pity on me, O merciful, Supreme Lord God; |
|
| ਮਨ ਤੇ ਕਬਹੁ ਨ ਬਿਸਰੁ ਗਪਾਲ ॥ |
| man thae kabahu n bisar guopaal || |
| let me never forget the Lord of the World from my mind. |
|
| ਤੇਰੇ ਦਾਸ ਕੀ ਹੋਵਾ ਧੂਰਿ ॥ |
| thaerae dhaas kee hovaa dhhoor || |
| Let me be the dust of the feet of Your slaves; |
|
| ਨਾਨਕ ਕੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਰਧਾ ਪੂਰਿ ॥੪॥੨੨॥੩੩॥ |

| There is no other than You. |

| ਤੂ ਸਮਰਥੁ ਪੂਰਨ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ॥ |

| You are all-powerful, O perfect Supreme Lord God. |

| ਸੋ ਧਿਆਏ ਪੂਰਾ ਜਿਸੁ ਕਰਮੁ ॥੧॥ |
| so dhhiaaeae pooraa jis karam ||1|| |
| He alone meditates on You, whose karma is perfect. ||1|| |
