| This is the essence of true devotional worship. |

| When the True Guru becomes merciful, |

| Whatever happens, accept that as good. |

| aapanaa thaj abhimaan || |
| Leave your egotistical pride behind. |

| ਦਿਨੁ ਰੈਨਿ ਸਦਾ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਉ ॥ |
| dhin rain sadhaa gun gaao || |
| Day and night, continually sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. |

| ਪੂਰਨ ਏਹੀ ਸੁਆਉ ॥੧॥ |
| pooran eaehee suaao ||1|| |
| This is the perfect purpose of human life. ||1|| |

| ਆਨੰਦ ਕਰਿ ਸੰਤ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿ ॥ |

| Meditate on the Lord, O Saints, and be in bliss. |

| Renounce your cleverness and all your tricks. Chant the Immaculate Chant of the Guru's Mantra. ||1||Pause|| |

| Place the hopes of your mind in the One Lord. |

| ਨਿਰਮਲ ਜਪਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ॥ |

| Chant the Immaculate Name of the Lord, Har, Har. |

| ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਚਰਨ ਨਮਸਕਾਰਿ ॥ |
| gur kae charan namasakaar || |
| Bow down to the Guru's Feet, |
|
| ਭਵਜਲੁ ਉਤਰਹਿ ਪਾਰਿ ॥੨॥ |
| bhavajal outharehi paar ||2|| |
| and cross over the terrifying world-ocean. ||2|| |

| ਦੇਵਨਹਾਰ ਦਾਤਾਰ ॥ |
| dhaevanehaar dhaathaar || |
| The Lord God is the Great Giver. |

| ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਰਾਵਾਰ ॥ |

| He has no end or limitation. |
|
| ਜਾ ਕੈ ਘਰਿ ਸਰਬ ਨਿਧਾਨ ॥ |
| jaa kai ghar sarab nidhhaan || |
| All treasures are in His home. |
|
| ਰਾਖਨਹਾਰ ਨਿਦਾਨ ॥੩॥ |
| raakhanehaar nidhaan ||3|| |
| He will be your Saving Grace in the end. ||3|| |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਪਾਇਆ ਏਹੁ ਨਿਧਾਨ ॥ |

| Nanak has obtained this treasure, |

| ਹਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਨਾਮ ॥ |

| the immaculate Name of the Lord, Har, Har. |

| ਜੋ ਜਪੈ ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਗਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥ |
| jo japai this kee gath hoe || |
| Whoever chants it, is emancipated. |

| jaahi n dharageh haar || |
| You shall not be destroyed when you go to the Lord's Court. |

| ਹਲਤਿ ਪਲਤਿ ਤੁਧੁ ਹੋਇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥ |
| halath palath thudhh hoe vaddiaaee || |
| In this world and the next, you shall obtain honor and glory. |
|
| ਅੰਤ ਕੀ ਬੇਲਾ ਲਏ ਛਡਾਈ ॥੧॥ |
| anth kee baelaa leae shhaddaaee ||1|| |
| At the very last moment, He will save you. ||1|| |

| Sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. |

| ਹਲਤੁ ਪਲਤੁ ਹੋਹਿ ਦੋਵੈ ਸੁਹੇਲੇ ਅਚਰਜ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਧਿਆਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| halath palath hohi dhovai suhaelae acharaj purakh dhhiaao ||1|| rehaao || |
| In both this world and the next, you shall be embellished with beauty, meditating on the wondrous Primal Lord God. ||1||Pause|| |
|
| ਊਠਤ ਬੈਠਤ ਹਰਿ ਜਾਪੁ ॥ |
| oothath baithath har jaap || |
| While standing up and sitting down, meditate on the Lord, |
|
| ਬਿਨਸੈ ਸਗਲ ਸੰਤਾਪੁ ॥ |
| binasai sagal santhaap || |
| and all your troubles shall depart. |
|
| ਬੈਰੀ ਸਭਿ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਮੀਤ ॥ |
| bairee sabh hovehi meeth || |
| All your enemies will become friends. |
|
| ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੋਵੈ ਚੀਤ ॥੨॥ |
| niramal thaeraa hovai cheeth ||2|| |
| Your consciousness shall be immaculate and pure. ||2|| |
|
| ਸਭ ਤੇ ਊਤਮ ਇਹੁ ਕਰਮੁ ॥ |
| sabh thae ootham eihu karam || |
| This is the most exalted deed. |
|
| ਸਗਲ ਧਰਮ ਮਹਿ ਸ੍ਰੇਸਟ ਧਰਮੁ ॥ |
| sagal dhharam mehi sraesatt dhharam || |
| Of all faiths, this is the most sublime and excellent faith. |
|
| ਹਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਨਿ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੋਇ ਉਧਾਰੁ ॥ |
| har simaran thaeraa hoe oudhhaar || |
| Meditating in remembrance on the Lord, you shall be saved. |
|
| ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕਾ ਉਤਰੈ ਭਾਰੁ ॥੩॥ |
| janam janam kaa outharai bhaar ||3|| |
| You shall be rid of the burden of countless incarnations. ||3|| |
|
| ਪੂਰਨ ਤੇਰੀ ਹੋਵੈ ਆਸ ॥ |
| pooran thaeree hovai aas || |
| Your hopes shall be fulfilled, |
|
| ਜਮ ਕੀ ਕਟੀਐ ਤੇਰੀ ਫਾਸ ॥ |
| jam kee katteeai thaeree faas || |
| and the noose of the Messenger of Death will be cut away. |
|
| ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਉਪਦੇਸੁ ਸੁਨੀਜੈ ॥ |
| gur kaa oupadhaes suneejai || |
| So listen to the Guru's Teachings. |

| Honor the One, to whom everything belongs. |
|
| ਆਪਨ ਲਾਹਿ ਗੁਮਾਨੁ ॥ |
| aapan laahi gumaan || |
| Leave your egotistical pride behind. |
|
| ਜਿਸ ਕਾ ਤੂ ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਇ ॥ |
| jis kaa thoo this kaa sabh koe || |
| You belong to Him; everyone belongs to Him. |
|
| ਤਿਸਹਿ ਅਰਾਧਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥ |
| thisehi araadhh sadhaa sukh hoe ||1|| |
| Worship and adore Him, and you shall be at peace forever. ||1|| |

| ਕਾਹੇ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਭ੍ਰਮਹਿ ਬਿਗਾਨੇ ॥ |
| kaahae bhram bhramehi bigaanae || |
| Why do you wander in doubt, you fool? |
|
| ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਾਮਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਮੇਰਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਕਰਿ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਪਛੁਤਾਨੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| naam binaa kishh kaam n aavai maeraa maeraa kar bahuth pashhuthaanae ||1|| rehaao || |
| Without the Naam, the Name of the Lord, nothing is of any use at all. Crying out, 'Mine, mine', a great many have departed, regretfully repenting. ||1||Pause|| |
