| rae man outt laehu har naamaa || |
| O mind,take the sheltering support of the Lord's Name. |

| ਜਾ ਕੈ ਸਿਮਰਨਿ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਨਾਸੈ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਪਦੁ ਨਿਰਬਾਨਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| jaa kai simaran dhuramath naasai paavehi padh nirabaanaa ||1|| rehaao || |
| Remembering Him in meditation, evil-mindedness is dispelled, and the state of Nirvaanaa is obtained. ||1||Pause|| |
|
| ਬਡਭਾਗੀ ਤਿਹ ਜਨ ਕਉ ਜਾਨਹੁ ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਵੈ ॥ |
| baddabhaagee thih jan ko jaanahu jo har kae gun gaavai || |
| Know that one who sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord is very fortunate. |
|
| ਅਜਾਮਲ ਕਉ ਅੰਤ ਕਾਲ ਮਹਿ ਨਾਰਾਇਨ ਸੁਧਿ ਆਈ ॥ |
| ajaamal ko anth kaal mehi naaraaein sudhh aaee || |
| At the very last moment, Ajaamal became aware of the Lord; |
|
| ਜਾਂ ਗਤਿ ਕਉ ਜੋਗੀਸੁਰ ਬਾਛਤ ਸੋ ਗਤਿ ਛਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਪਾਈ ॥੨॥ |
| jaan gath ko jogeesur baashhath so gath shhin mehi paaee ||2|| |
| that state which even the supreme Yogis desire - he attained that state in an instant. ||2|| |
|
| ਨਾਹਿਨ ਗੁਨੁ ਨਾਹਿਨ ਕਛੁ ਬਿਦਿਆ ਧਰਮੁ ਕਉਨੁ ਗਜਿ ਕੀਨਾ ॥ |
| naahin gun naahin kashh bidhiaa dhharam koun gaj keenaa || |
| The elephant had no virtue and no knowledge; what religious rituals has he performed? |
|
| ਨਾਨਕ ਬਿਰਦੁ ਰਾਮ ਕਾ ਦੇਖਹੁ ਅਭੈ ਦਾਨੁ ਤਿਹ ਦੀਨਾ ॥੩॥੧॥ |

| O Nanak, behold the way of the Lord, who bestowed the gift of fearlessness. ||3||1|| |

| ਸਾਧੋ ਕਉਨ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਅਬ ਕੀਜੈ ॥ |
| saadhho koun jugath ab keejai || |
| Holy people: what way should I now adopt, |
|
| ਜਾ ਤੇ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਗਲ ਬਿਨਾਸੈ ਰਾਮ ਭਗਤਿ ਮਨੁ ਭੀਜੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| jaa thae dhuramath sagal binaasai raam bhagath man bheejai ||1|| rehaao || |
| by which all evil-mindedness may be dispelled, and the mind may vibrate in devotional worship to the Lord? ||1||Pause|| |
|
| ਮਨੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਮਹਿ ਉਰਝਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਹੈ ਬੂਝੈ ਨਹ ਕਛੁ ਗਿਆਨਾ ॥ |
| man maaeiaa mehi ourajh rehiou hai boojhai neh kashh giaanaa || |
| My mind is entangled in Maya; it knows nothing at all of spiritual wisdom. |

| ਕਉਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਗੁ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਸਿਮਰੈ ਪਾਵੈ ਪਦੁ ਨਿਰਬਾਨਾ ॥੧॥ |
| koun naam jag jaa kai simarai paavai padh nirabaanaa ||1|| |
| What is that Name, by which the world, contemplating it, might attain the state of Nirvaanaa? ||1|| |
|
| ਭਏ ਦਇਆਲ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਤਬ ਇਹ ਬਾਤ ਬਤਾਈ ॥ |
| bheae dhaeiaal kirapaal santh jan thab eih baath bathaaee || |
| When the Saints became kind and compassionate, they told me this. |

| ਸਰਬ ਧਰਮ ਮਾਨੋ ਤਿਹ ਕੀਏ ਜਿਹ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਗਾਈ ॥੨॥ |
| sarab dhharam maano thih keeeae jih prabh keerath gaaee ||2|| |
| Understand, that whoever sings the Kirtan of God's Praises, has performed all religious rituals. ||2|| |
|
| ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਰੁ ਨਿਸਿ ਬਾਸੁਰ ਮਹਿ ਨਿਮਖ ਏਕ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰੈ ॥ |
| raam naam nar nis baasur mehi nimakh eaek our dhhaarai || |
| One who enshrines the Lord's Name in his heart night and day - even for an instant |

| ਜਮ ਕੋ ਤ੍ਰਾਸੁ ਮਿਟੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਹ ਅਪੁਨੋ ਜਨਮੁ ਸਵਾਰੈ ॥੩॥੨॥ |
| jam ko thraas mittai naanak thih apuno janam savaarai ||3||2|| |
| - has his fear of Death eradicated. O Nanak, his life is approved and fulfilled. ||3||2|| |

| ਪ੍ਰਾਨੀ ਨਾਰਾਇਨ ਸੁਧਿ ਲੇਹਿ ॥ |

| O mortal, focus your thoughts on the Lord. |
|
| ਛਿਨੁ ਛਿਨੁ ਅਉਧ ਘਟੈ ਨਿਸਿ ਬਾਸੁਰ ਬ੍ਰਿਥਾ ਜਾਤੁ ਹੈ ਦੇਹ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| shhin shhin aoudhh ghattai nis baasur brithhaa jaath hai dhaeh ||1|| rehaao || |
| Moment by moment, your life is running out; night and day, your body is passing away in vain. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਤਰਨਾਪੋ ਬਿਖਿਅਨ ਸਿਉ ਖੋਇਓ ਬਾਲਪਨੁ ਅਗਿਆਨਾ ॥ |
| tharanaapo bikhian sio khoeiou baalapan agiaanaa || |
| You have wasted your youth in corrupt pleasures, and your childhood in ignorance. |
|
| ਬਿਰਧਿ ਭਇਓ ਅਜਹੂ ਨਹੀ ਸਮਝੈ ਕਉਨ ਕੁਮਤਿ ਉਰਝਾਨਾ ॥੧॥ |
| biradhh bhaeiou ajehoo nehee samajhai koun kumath ourajhaanaa ||1|| |
| You have grown old, and even now, you do not understand, the evil-mindedness in which you are entangled. ||1|| |
|
| ਮਾਨਸ ਜਨਮੁ ਦੀਓ ਜਿਹ ਠਾਕੁਰਿ ਸੋ ਤੈ ਕਿਉ ਬਿਸਰਾਇਓ ॥ |
| maanas janam dheeou jih thaakur so thai kio bisaraaeiou || |
| Why have you forgotten your Lord and Master, who blessed you with this human life? |
|
| ਮੁਕਤੁ ਹੋਤ ਨਰ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਸਿਮਰੈ ਨਿਮਖ ਨ ਤਾ ਕਉ ਗਾਇਓ ॥੨॥ |
| mukath hoth nar jaa kai simarai nimakh n thaa ko gaaeiou ||2|| |
| Remembering Him in meditation, one is liberated. And yet, you do not sing His Praises, even for an instant. ||2|| |
|
| ਮਾਇਆ ਕੋ ਮਦੁ ਕਹਾ ਕਰਤੁ ਹੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਨ ਕਾਹੂ ਜਾਈ ॥ |
| maaeiaa ko madh kehaa karath hai sang n kaahoo jaaee || |
| Why are you intoxicated with Maya? It will not go along with you. |
|
| ਨਾਨਕੁ ਕਹਤੁ ਚੇਤਿ ਚਿੰਤਾਮਨਿ ਹੋਇ ਹੈ ਅੰਤਿ ਸਹਾਈ ॥੩॥੩॥੮੧॥ |
| naanak kehath chaeth chinthaaman hoe hai anth sehaaee ||3||3||81|| |
| Says Nanak, think of Him, remember Him in your mind. He is the Fulfiller of desires, who will be your help and support in the end. ||3||3||81|| |

| ਸੋਈ ਚੰਦੁ ਚੜਹਿ ਸੇ ਤਾਰੇ ਸੋਈ ਦਿਨੀਅਰੁ ਤਪਤ ਰਹੈ ॥ |
| soee chandh charrehi sae thaarae soee dhineear thapath rehai || |
| The same moon rises, and the same stars; the same sun shines in the sky. |
|
| ਸਾ ਧਰਤੀ ਸੋ ਪਉਣੁ ਝੁਲਾਰੇ ਜੁਗ ਜੀਅ ਖੇਲੇ ਥਾਵ ਕੈਸੇ ॥੧॥ |
| saa dhharathee so poun jhulaarae jug jeea khaelae thhaav kaisae ||1|| |
| The earth is the same, and the same wind blows. The age in which we dwell affects living beings, but not these places. ||1|| |
|
| ਜੀਵਨ ਤਲਬ ਨਿਵਾਰਿ ॥ |
| jeevan thalab nivaar || |
| Give up your attachment to life. |
|
| ਹੋਵੈ ਪਰਵਾਣਾ ਕਰਹਿ ਧਿਙਾਣਾ ਕਲਿ ਲਖਣ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| hovai paravaanaa karehi dhhin(g)aanaa kal lakhan veechaar ||1|| rehaao || |
| Those who act like tyrants are accepted and approved - recognize that this is the sign of the Dark Age of Kali Yuga. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਕਿਤੈ ਦੇਸਿ ਨ ਆਇਆ ਸੁਣੀਐ ਤੀਰਥ ਪਾਸਿ ਨ ਬੈਠਾ ॥ |
| kithai dhaes n aaeiaa suneeai theerathh paas n baithaa || |
| Kali Yuga has not been heard to have come to any country, or to be sitting at any sacred shrine. |
|
| ਦਾਤਾ ਦਾਨੁ ਕਰੇ ਤਹ ਨਾਹੀ ਮਹਲ ਉਸਾਰਿ ਨ ਬੈਠਾ ॥੨॥ |
| dhaathaa dhaan karae theh naahee mehal ousaar n baithaa ||2|| |
| It is not where the generous person gives to charities, nor seated in the mansion he has built. ||2|| |
|
| ਜੇ ਕੋ ਸਤੁ ਕਰੇ ਸੋ ਛੀਜੈ ਤਪ ਘਰਿ ਤਪੁ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥ |
| jae ko sath karae so shheejai thap ghar thap n hoee || |
| If someone practices Truth, he is frustrated; prosperity does not come to the home of the sincere. |
|
| ਜੇ ਕੋ ਨਾਉ ਲਏ ਬਦਨਾਵੀ ਕਲਿ ਕੇ ਲਖਣ ਏਈ ॥੩॥ |
| jae ko naao leae badhanaavee kal kae lakhan eaeee ||3|| |
| If someone chants the Lord's Name, he is scorned. These are the signs of Kali Yuga. ||3|| |
|
| ਜਿਸੁ ਸਿਕਦਾਰੀ ਤਿਸਹਿ ਖੁਆਰੀ ਚਾਕਰ ਕੇਹੇ ਡਰਣਾ ॥ |
| jis sikadhaaree thisehi khuaaree chaakar kaehae ddaranaa || |
| Whoever is in charge, is humiliated. Why should the servant be afraid, |
|
| ਆਖੁ ਗੁਣਾ ਕਲਿ ਆਈਐ ॥ |
| aakh gunaa kal aaeeai || |
| Chant the Praises of the Lord; Kali Yuga has come. |
|
| ਤਿਹੁ ਜੁਗ ਕੇਰਾ ਰਹਿਆ ਤਪਾਵਸੁ ਜੇ ਗੁਣ ਦੇਹਿ ਤ ਪਾਈਐ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| thihu jug kaeraa rehiaa thapaavas jae gun dhaehi th paaeeai ||1|| rehaao || |
| The justice of the previous three ages is gone. One obtains virtue, only if the Lord bestows it. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਕਲਿ ਕਲਵਾਲੀ ਸਰਾ ਨਿਬੇੜੀ ਕਾਜੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਹੋਆ ॥ |
| kal kalavaalee saraa nibaerree kaajee kirasanaa hoaa || |
| In this turbulent age of Kali Yuga, Muslim law decides the cases, and the blue-robed Qazi is the judge. |
|
| ਬਾਣੀ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਬੇਦੁ ਅਥਰਬਣੁ ਕਰਣੀ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਲਹਿਆ ॥੫॥ |
| baanee brehamaa baedh athharaban karanee keerath lehiaa ||5|| |
| The Guru's Bani has taken the place of Brahma's Veda, and the singing of the Lord's Praises are good deeds. ||5|| |
|
| ਪਤਿ ਵਿਣੁ ਪੂਜਾ ਸਤ ਵਿਣੁ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਜਤ ਵਿਣੁ ਕਾਹੇ ਜਨੇਊ ॥ |
| path vin poojaa sath vin sanjam jath vin kaahae janaeoo || |
| Worship without faith; self-discipline without truthfulness; the ritual of the sacred thread without chastity - what good are these? |

| ਨਾਵਹੁ ਧੋਵਹੁ ਤਿਲਕੁ ਚੜਾਵਹੁ ਸੁਚ ਵਿਣੁ ਸੋਚ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥੬॥ |
| naavahu dhhovahu thilak charraavahu such vin soch n hoee ||6|| |
| You may bathe and wash, and apply a ritualistic tilak mark to your forehead, but without inner purity, there is no understanding. ||6|| |
|
| ਕਲਿ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ਕਤੇਬ ਕੁਰਾਣੁ ॥ |
| kal paravaan kathaeb kuraan || |
| In Kali Yuga, the Koran and the Bible have become famous. |
|
| ਪੋਥੀ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਰਹੇ ਪੁਰਾਣ ॥ |
| pothhee panddith rehae puraan || |
| The Pandit's scriptures and the Puraanas are not respected. |
|
| ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਉ ਭਇਆ ਰਹਮਾਣੁ ॥ |
| naanak naao bhaeiaa rehamaan || |
| O Nanak, the Lord's Name now is Rehmaan, the Merciful. |
|
| ਕਰਿ ਕਰਤਾ ਤੂ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਣੁ ॥੭॥ |
| kar karathaa thoo eaeko jaan ||7|| |
| Know that there is only One Creator of the creation. ||7|| |
|
| ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਏਦੂ ਉਪਰਿ ਕਰਮੁ ਨਹੀ ॥ |
| naanak naam milai vaddiaaee eaedhoo oupar karam nehee || |
| Nanak has obtained the glorious greatness of the Naam, the Name of the Lord. There is no action higher than this. |

| ਜੇ ਘਰਿ ਹੋਦੈ ਮੰਗਣਿ ਜਾਈਐ ਫਿਰਿ ਓਲਾਮਾ ਮਿਲੈ ਤਹੀ ॥੮॥੧॥ |
| jae ghar hodhai mangan jaaeeai fir oulaamaa milai thehee ||8||1|| |
| If someone goes out to beg for what is already in his own home, then he should be chastised. ||8||1|| |
