| ਨਾ ਸਤਿ ਰੁਖੀ ਬਿਰਖੀ ਪਥਰ ਆਪੁ ਤਛਾਵਹਿ ਦੁਖ ਸਹਹਿ ॥ |
| naa sath rukhee birakhee pathhar aap thashhaavehi dhukh sehehi || |
| There is no Truth in trees, plants or stones, in mutilating oneself or suffering in pain. |

| ਨਾ ਸਤਿ ਹਸਤੀ ਬਧੇ ਸੰਗਲ ਨਾ ਸਤਿ ਗਾਈ ਘਾਹੁ ਚਰਹਿ ॥ |
| naa sath hasathee badhhae sangal naa sath gaaee ghaahu charehi || |
| There is no Truth in binding elephants in chains; there is no Truth in grazing cows. |

| ਜਿਸੁ ਹਥਿ ਸਿਧਿ ਦੇਵੈ ਜੇ ਸੋਈ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਦੇਇ ਤਿਸੁ ਆਇ ਮਿਲੈ ॥ |
| jis hathh sidhh dhaevai jae soee jis no dhaee this aae milai || |
| He alone grants it, whose hands hold spritual perfection; he alone receives it, unto whom it is given. |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਤਾ ਕਉ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਾਈ ਜਿਸੁ ਘਟ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਰਵੈ ॥ |
| naanak thaa ko milai vaddaaee jis ghatt bheethar sabadh ravai || |
| O Nanak, he alone is blessed with glorious greatness, whose heart is filled with the Word of the Shabad. |

| ਸਭਿ ਘਟ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਉ ਸਭਨਾ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਜਿਸਹਿ ਖੁਆਈ ਤਿਸੁ ਕਉਣੁ ਕਹੈ ॥ |
| sabh ghatt maerae ho sabhanaa andhar jisehi khuaaee this koun kehai || |
| God says, all hearts are mine, and I am in all hearts. Who can explain this to one who is confused? |

| ਜਿਸਹਿ ਦਿਖਾਲਾ ਵਾਟੜੀ ਤਿਸਹਿ ਭੁਲਾਵੈ ਕਉਣੁ ॥ |
| jisehi dhikhaalaa vaattarree thisehi bhulaavai koun || |
| Who can confuse that being, unto whom I have shown the Way? |

| ਜਿਸਹਿ ਭੁਲਾਈ ਪੰਧ ਸਿਰਿ ਤਿਸਹਿ ਦਿਖਾਵੈ ਕਉਣੁ ॥੧॥ |
| jisehi bhulaaee pandhh sir thisehi dhikhaavai koun ||1|| |
| And who can show the Path to that being whom I have confused since the beginning of time? ||1|| |

| He alone is a householder, who restrains his passions |

| ਜਪੁ ਤਪੁ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਭੀਖਿਆ ਕਰੈ ॥ |
| jap thap sanjam bheekhiaa karai || |
| and begs for meditation, austerity and self-discipline. |
 |
| ਪੁੰਨ ਦਾਨ ਕਾ ਕਰੇ ਸਰੀਰੁ ॥ |
| punn dhaan kaa karae sareer || |
| He gives donations to charity with his body; |
 |
| ਸੋ ਗਿਰਹੀ ਗੰਗਾ ਕਾ ਨੀਰੁ ॥ |
| so girehee gangaa kaa neer || |
| such a householder is as pure as the water of the Ganges. |
 |
| ਬੋਲੈ ਈਸਰੁ ਸਤਿ ਸਰੂਪੁ ॥ |
| bolai eesar sath saroop || |
| Says Eeshar, the Lord is the embodiment of Truth. |

| He alone is a detached hermit, who burns away his self-conceit. |

| ਭਿਖਿਆ ਭੋਜਨੁ ਕਰੈ ਸੰਤਾਪੁ ॥ |
| bhikhiaa bhojan karai santhaap || |
| He begs for suffering as his food. |
 |
| ਅਉਹਠ ਪਟਣ ਮਹਿ ਭੀਖਿਆ ਕਰੈ ॥ |
| aouhath pattan mehi bheekhiaa karai || |
| In the city of the heart, he begs for charity. |
 |
| ਸੋ ਅਉਧੂਤੀ ਸਿਵ ਪੁਰਿ ਚੜੈ ॥ |
| so aoudhhoothee siv pur charrai || |
| Such a renunciate ascends to the City of God. |
 |
| ਬੋਲੈ ਗੋਰਖੁ ਸਤਿ ਸਰੂਪੁ ॥ |
| bolai gorakh sath saroop || |
| Says Gorakh, God is the embodiment of Truth; |

| He alone is an Udasi, a shaven-headed renunciate, who embraces renunciation. |

| ਅਰਧ ਉਰਧ ਕਰੇ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਵਾਸੁ ॥ |
| aradhh ouradhh karae niranjan vaas || |
| He sees the Immaculate Lord dwelling in both the upper and lower regions. |
 |
| ਚੰਦ ਸੂਰਜ ਕੀ ਪਾਏ ਗੰਢਿ ॥ |
| chandh sooraj kee paaeae gandt || |
| He balances the sun and the moon energies. |
 |
| ਤਿਸੁ ਉਦਾਸੀ ਕਾ ਪੜੈ ਨ ਕੰਧੁ ॥ |
| this oudhaasee kaa parrai n kandhh || |
| The body-wall of such an Udasi does not collapse. |
 |
| ਬੋਲੈ ਗੋਪੀ ਚੰਦੁ ਸਤਿ ਸਰੂਪੁ ॥ |
| bolai gopee chandh sath saroop || |
| Says Gopi Chand, God is the embodiment of Truth; |

| He alone is a Paakhandi, who cleanses his body of filth. |

| ਕਾਇਆ ਕੀ ਅਗਨਿ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਪਰਜਾਲੇ ॥ |
| kaaeiaa kee agan breham parajaalae || |
| The fire of his body illuminates God within. |
 |
| ਤਿਸੁ ਪਾਖੰਡੀ ਜਰਾ ਨ ਮਰਣਾ ॥ |
| this paakhanddee jaraa n maranaa || |
| Such a Paakhandi does not grow old or die. |
 |
| ਬੋਲੈ ਚਰਪਟੁ ਸਤਿ ਸਰੂਪੁ ॥ |

| Says Charpat, God is the embodiment of Truth; |

| ਗਗਨ ਮੰਡਲ ਮਹਿ ਰੋਪੈ ਥੰਮੁ ॥ |
| gagan manddal mehi ropai thhanm || |
| In the Tenth Gate, the sky of the mind, he erects his pillar. |

| ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਰਹੈ ਧਿਆਨਿ ॥ |
| ahinis anthar rehai dhhiaan || |
| Night and day, he remains in deep inner meditation. |

| ਤੇ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਸਤ ਸਮਾਨਿ ॥ |
| thae bairaagee sath samaan || |
| Such a Bairaagi is just like the True Lord. |

| How is evil eradicated? How can the true way of life be found? |

| ਕੰਨ ਪੜਾਇ ਕਿਆ ਖਾਜੈ ਭੁਗਤਿ ॥ |
| kann parraae kiaa khaajai bhugath || |
| What is the use of piercing the ears, or begging for food? |
 |
| ਆਸਤਿ ਨਾਸਤਿ ਏਕੋ ਨਾਉ ॥ |
| aasath naasath eaeko naao || |
| Throughout existence and non-existence, there is only the Name of the One Lord. |

| ਕਉਣੁ ਸੁ ਅਖਰੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਰਹੈ ਹਿਆਉ ॥ |
| koun s akhar jith rehai hiaao || |
| What is that Word, which holds the heart in its place? |

| ਧੂਪ ਛਾਵ ਜੇ ਸਮ ਕਰਿ ਸਹੈ ॥ |
| dhhoop shhaav jae sam kar sehai || |
| When you look alike upon sunshine and shade, |
 |
| ਤਾ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਆਖੈ ਗੁਰੁ ਕੋ ਕਹੈ ॥ |
| thaa naanak aakhai gur ko kehai || |
| says Nanak, then the Guru will speak to you. |

| ਛਿਅ ਵਰਤਾਰੇ ਵਰਤਹਿ ਪੂਤ ॥ |
| shhia varathaarae varathehi pooth || |
| The students follow the six systems. |

| ਨਾ ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ਨਾ ਅਉਧੂਤ ॥ |
| naa sansaaree naa aoudhhooth || |
| They are neither worldly people, nor detached renunciates. |
