jap thap sabh kishh manniai avar kaaraa sabh baadh || |
Meditation, austerity and everything come through belief in the Lord's Name. All other actions are useless. |

ਨਾਨਕ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਮੰਨੀਐ ਬੁਝੀਐ ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ॥੨॥ |
naanak manniaa manneeai bujheeai gur parasaadh ||2|| |
O Nanak, believe in the One who is worth believing in. By Guru's Grace, he is realized. ||2|| |

ਕਾਇਆ ਹੰਸ ਧੁਰਿ ਮੇਲੁ ਕਰਤੈ ਲਿਖਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ |
kaaeiaa hans dhhur mael karathai likh paaeiaa || |
The union of the body and the soul-swan was pre-ordained by the Creator Lord. |

ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਗੁਪਤੁ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਾਇਆ ॥ |
sabh mehi gupath varathadhaa guramukh pragattaaeiaa || |
He is hidden, and yet pervading all. He is revealed to the Gurmukh. |

ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਗੁਣ ਉਚਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥ |
gun gaavai gun oucharai gun maahi samaaeiaa || |
Singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, and chanting His Praises, one merges in His Glories. |

ਸਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਚੁ ਹੈ ਸਚੁ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ॥ |
sachee baanee sach hai sach mael milaaeiaa || |
True is the True Word of the Guru's Bani. One unites in Union with the True Lord. |

ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਹੈ ਆਪੇ ਦੇਇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੧੪॥ |
sabh kishh aapae aap hai aapae dhaee vaddiaaee ||14|| |
He Himself is everything; He Himself grants glorious greatness. ||14|| |

ਨਾਨਕ ਅੰਧਾ ਹੋਇ ਕੈ ਰਤਨਾ ਪਰਖਣ ਜਾਇ ॥ |
naanak andhhaa hoe kai rathanaa parakhan jaae || |
O Nanak, the blind man may go to appraise the jewels, |

ਰਤਨਾ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਣਈ ਆਵੈ ਆਪੁ ਲਖਾਇ ॥੧॥ |
rathanaa saar n jaanee aavai aap lakhaae ||1|| |
but he will not know their value; he will return home after exposing his ignorance. ||1|| |

ਰਤਨਾ ਕੇਰੀ ਗੁਥਲੀ ਰਤਨੀ ਖੋਲੀ ਆਇ ॥ |
rathanaa kaeree guthhalee rathanee kholee aae || |
The Jeweller has come, and opened up the bag of jewels. |
|
ਵਖਰ ਤੈ ਵਣਜਾਰਿਆ ਦੁਹਾ ਰਹੀ ਸਮਾਇ ॥ |
vakhar thai vanajaariaa dhuhaa rehee samaae || |
The merchandise and the merchant are merged together. |
|
ਜਿਨ ਗੁਣੁ ਪਲੈ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਮਾਣਕ ਵਣਜਹਿ ਸੇਇ ॥ |
jin gun palai naanakaa maanak vanajehi saee || |
They alone purchase the gem, O Nanak, who have virtue in their purse. |

ਰਤਨਾ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਣਨੀ ਅੰਧੇ ਵਤਹਿ ਲੋਇ ॥੨॥ |
rathanaa saar n jaananee andhhae vathehi loe ||2|| |
Those who do not appreciate the value of the jewels, wander like blind men in the world. ||2|| |

ਨਉ ਦਰਵਾਜੇ ਕਾਇਆ ਕੋਟੁ ਹੈ ਦਸਵੈ ਗੁਪਤੁ ਰਖੀਜੈ ॥ |
no dharavaajae kaaeiaa kott hai dhasavai gupath rakheejai || |
The fortress of the body has nine gates; the tenth gate is kept hidden. |

ਬਜਰ ਕਪਾਟ ਨ ਖੁਲਨੀ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਖੁਲੀਜੈ ॥ |
bajar kapaatt n khulanee gur sabadh khuleejai || |
The rigid door is not open; only through the Word of the Guru's Shabad can it be opened. |

ਅਨਹਦ ਵਾਜੇ ਧੁਨਿ ਵਜਦੇ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਣੀਜੈ ॥ |
anehadh vaajae dhhun vajadhae gur sabadh suneejai || |
The unstruck sound current resounds and vibrates there. The Word of the Guru's Shabad is heard. |

ਤਿਤੁ ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਚਾਨਣਾ ਕਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਮਿਲੀਜੈ ॥ |
thith ghatt anthar chaananaa kar bhagath mileejai || |
Deep within the nucleus of the heart, the Divine Light shines forth. Through devotional worship, one meets the Lord. |
|
ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਏਕੁ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਜਿਨਿ ਆਪੇ ਰਚਨ ਰਚਾਈ ॥੧੫॥ |
sabh mehi eaek varathadhaa jin aapae rachan rachaaee ||15|| |
The One Lord is pervading and permeating all. He Himself created the creation. ||15|| |

ਅੰਧੇ ਕੈ ਰਾਹਿ ਦਸਿਐ ਅੰਧਾ ਹੋਇ ਸੁ ਜਾਇ ॥ |
andhhae kai raahi dhasiai andhhaa hoe s jaae || |
He is truly blind, who follows the way shown by the blind man. |

ਹੋਇ ਸੁਜਾਖਾ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਸੋ ਕਿਉ ਉਝੜਿ ਪਾਇ ॥ |
hoe sujaakhaa naanakaa so kio oujharr paae || |
O Nanak, why should the one who can see, get lost? |

ਅੰਧੇ ਏਹਿ ਨ ਆਖੀਅਨਿ ਜਿਨ ਮੁਖਿ ਲੋਇਣ ਨਾਹਿ ॥ |
andhhae eaehi n aakheean jin mukh loein naahi || |
Do not call them blind, who have no eyes in their face. |

ਅੰਧੇ ਸੇਈ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਖਸਮਹੁ ਘੁਥੇ ਜਾਹਿ ॥੧॥ |
andhhae saeee naanakaa khasamahu ghuthhae jaahi ||1|| |
They alone are blind, O Nanak, who wander away from their Lord and Master. ||1|| |

|
ਸਾਹਿਬਿ ਅੰਧਾ ਜੋ ਕੀਆ ਕਰੇ ਸੁਜਾਖਾ ਹੋਇ ॥ |
saahib andhhaa jo keeaa karae sujaakhaa hoe || |
One whom the Lord has made blind - the Lord can make him see again. |

ਜੇਹਾ ਜਾਣੈ ਤੇਹੋ ਵਰਤੈ ਜੇ ਸਉ ਆਖੈ ਕੋਇ ॥ |
jaehaa jaanai thaeho varathai jae so aakhai koe || |
He acts only as he knows, although he may be spoken to a hundred times. |
|
ਜਿਥੈ ਸੁ ਵਸਤੁ ਨ ਜਾਪਈ ਆਪੇ ਵਰਤਉ ਜਾਣਿ ॥ |
jithhai s vasath n jaapee aapae varatho jaan || |
Where the real thing is not seen, self-conceit prevails there - know this well. |

ਨਾਨਕ ਗਾਹਕੁ ਕਿਉ ਲਏ ਸਕੈ ਨ ਵਸਤੁ ਪਛਾਣਿ ॥੨॥ |
naanak gaahak kio leae sakai n vasath pashhaan ||2|| |
O Nanak, how can the purshaser purchase the real thing, if he cannot recognize it? ||2|| |

ਸੋ ਕਿਉ ਅੰਧਾ ਆਖੀਐ ਜਿ ਹੁਕਮਹੁ ਅੰਧਾ ਹੋਇ ॥ |
so kio andhhaa aakheeai j hukamahu andhhaa hoe || |
How can someone be called blind, if he was made blind by the Lord's Command? |

ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਗੜੁ ਕੋਟੁ ਹੈ ਸਭਿ ਦਿਸੰਤਰ ਦੇਸਾ ॥ |
kaaeiaa andhar garr kott hai sabh dhisanthar dhaesaa || |
Deep within the body is the fortress of the Lord, and all lands and countries. |

ਆਪੇ ਤਾੜੀ ਲਾਈਅਨੁ ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਪਰਵੇਸਾ ॥ |
aapae thaarree laaeean sabh mehi paravaesaa || |
He Himself sits in primal, profound Samaadhi; He Himself is all-pervading. |
|
ਆਪੇ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਸਾਜੀਅਨੁ ਆਪਿ ਗੁਪਤੁ ਰਖੇਸਾ ॥ |
aapae srisatt saajeean aap gupath rakhaesaa || |
He Himself created the Universe, and He Himself remains hidden within it. |
|
ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇ ਜਾਣਿਆ ਸਚੁ ਪਰਗਟੀਏਸਾ ॥ |
gur saevaa thae jaaniaa sach paragatteeeaesaa || |
Serving the Guru, the Lord is known, and the Truth is revealed. |
|
ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਸਚੋ ਸਚੁ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਿ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਈ ॥੧੬॥ |
sabh kishh sacho sach hai gur sojhee paaee ||16|| |
He is True, the Truest of the True; the Guru has imparted this understanding. ||16|| |

ਸਾਵਣੁ ਰਾਤਿ ਅਹਾੜੁ ਦਿਹੁ ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਦੁਇ ਖੇਤ ॥ |
saavan raath ahaarr dhihu kaam krodhh dhue khaeth || |
Night is the summer season, and day is the winter season; sexual desire and anger are the two fields planted. |

ਲਬੁ ਵਤ੍ਰ ਦਰੋਗੁ ਬੀਉ ਹਾਲੀ ਰਾਹਕੁ ਹੇਤ ॥ |
lab vathr dharog beeo haalee raahak haeth || |
Greed prepares the soil, and the seed of falsehood is planted; attachment and love are the farmer and hired hand. |

ਹਲੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਮਣ ਹੁਕਮੀ ਖਟੇ ਖਾਇ ॥ |
hal beechaar vikaar man hukamee khattae khaae || |
Contemplation is the plow, and corruption is the harvest; this is what one earns and eats, according to the Hukam of the Lord's Command. |

ਨਾਨਕ ਲੇਖੈ ਮੰਗਿਐ ਅਉਤੁ ਜਣੇਦਾ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥ |
naanak laekhai mangiai aouth janaedhaa jaae ||1|| |
O Nanak, when one is called to give his account, he will be barren and infertile. ||1|| |

ਭਉ ਭੁਇ ਪਵਿਤੁ ਪਾਣੀ ਸਤੁ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਬਲੇਦ ॥ |

Make the Fear of God the farm, purity the water, truth and contentment the cows and bulls, |

ਹਲੁ ਹਲੇਮੀ ਹਾਲੀ ਚਿਤੁ ਚੇਤਾ ਵਤ੍ਰ ਵਖਤ ਸੰਜੋਗੁ ॥ |
hal halaemee haalee chith chaethaa vathr vakhath sanjog || |
humility the plow, consciousness the plowman, remembrance the preparation of the soil, and union with the Lord the planting time. |
|
ਨਾਉ ਬੀਜੁ ਬਖਸੀਸ ਬੋਹਲ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਸਗਲ ਦਰੋਗ ॥ |
naao beej bakhasees bohal dhuneeaa sagal dharog || |
Let the Lord's Name be the seed, and His Forgiving Grace the harvest. Do this, and the whole world will seem false. |
