| Abandon all other hopes, and rest your hopes in the One Formless Lord. ||2|| |

| ਇਕਿ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੂਲੇ ਸਾਕਤਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਅੰਧ ਅੰਧਾਰ ॥ |
| eik bharam bhoolae saakathaa bin gur andhh andhhaar || |
| Some are faithless cynics, deluded by doubt; without the Guru, there is only pitch darkness. |

| ਧੁਰਿ ਹੋਵਨਾ ਸੁ ਹੋਇਆ ਕੋ ਨ ਮੇਟਣਹਾਰ ॥੩॥ |
| dhhur hovanaa s hoeiaa ko n maettanehaar ||3|| |
| Whatever is pre-ordained, comes to pass; no one can erase it. ||3|| |

| ਅਗਮ ਰੂਪੁ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਕਾ ਅਨਿਕ ਨਾਮ ਅਪਾਰ ॥ |
| agam roop gobindh kaa anik naam apaar || |
| The beauty of the Lord of the Universe is profound and unfathomable; the Names of the Infinite Lord are immunerable. |

| ਧਨੁ ਧੰਨੁ ਤੇ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਜਿਨ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਾ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰ ॥੪॥੧॥ |
| dhhan dhhann thae jan naanakaa jin har naamaa our dhhaar ||4||1|| |
| Blessed, blessed are those humble beings, O Nanak, who enshrine the Lord's Name in their hearts. ||4||1|| |

| Meditating on Him, one's bonds are untied. |

| Meditating on Him, the fool becomes wise. |

| ਜਾ ਕੈ ਸਿਮਰਨਿ ਕੁਲਹ ਉਧਰ ॥੧॥ |

| Meditating on Him, one's ancestors are saved. ||1|| |

| Meditating on Him, fear and pain are taken away. |

| Meditating on Him, misfortune is avoided. |

| ਜਾ ਕੈ ਸਿਮਰਨਿ ਮੁਚਤ ਪਾਪ ॥ |

| Meditating on Him, sins are erased. |

| ਜਾ ਕੈ ਸਿਮਰਨਿ ਨਹੀ ਸੰਤਾਪ ॥੨॥ |

| Meditating on Him, agony is ended. ||2|| |
|
| ਜਾ ਕੈ ਸਿਮਰਨਿ ਰਿਦ ਬਿਗਾਸ ॥ |

| Meditating on Him, the heart blossoms forth. |

| ਜਾ ਕੈ ਸਿਮਰਨਿ ਕਵਲਾ ਦਾਸਿ ॥ |

| Meditating on Him, Maya becomes one's slave. |

| ਜਾ ਕੈ ਸਿਮਰਨਿ ਨਿਧਿ ਨਿਧਾਨ ॥ |

| Meditating on Him, one is blessed with the treasures of wealth. |

| Meditating on Him, one crosses over in the end. ||3|| |

| ਪਤਿਤ ਪਾਵਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਰੀ ॥ |

| The Name of the Lord is the Purifier of sinners. |

| ਕੋਟਿ ਭਗਤ ਉਧਾਰੁ ਕਰੀ ॥ |

| It saves millions of devotees. |
|
| ਹਰਿ ਦਾਸ ਦਾਸਾ ਦੀਨੁ ਸਰਨ ॥ |
| har dhaas dhaasaa dheen saran || |
| I am meek; I seek the Sanctuary of the slaves of the Lord's slaves. |

| Meditating in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, one's affairs are perfectly resolved. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਬੂਝਤ ਦੀਪਕ ਮਿਲਤ ਤਿਲਤ ॥ |

| It is like oil to the lamp whose flame is dying out. |

| ਜਲਤ ਅਗਨੀ ਮਿਲਤ ਨੀਰ ॥ |
| jalath aganee milath neer || |
| It is like water poured on the burning fire. |
|
| ਜੈਸੇ ਬਾਰਿਕ ਮੁਖਹਿ ਖੀਰ ॥੧॥ |
| jaisae baarik mukhehi kheer ||1|| |
| It is like milk poured into the baby's mouth. ||1|| |
|
| ਜੈਸੇ ਰਣ ਮਹਿ ਸਖਾ ਭ੍ਰਾਤ ॥ |
| jaisae ran mehi sakhaa bhraath || |
| As one's brother becomes a helper on the field of battle; |
|
| ਜੈਸੇ ਭੂਖੇ ਭੋਜਨ ਮਾਤ ॥ |
| jaisae bhookhae bhojan maath || |
| as one's hunger is satisfied by food; |
|
| ਜੈਸੇ ਕਿਰਖਹਿ ਬਰਸ ਮੇਘ ॥ |
| jaisae kirakhehi baras maegh || |
| as the cloudburst saves the crops; |
|
| ਜੈਸੇ ਪਾਲਨ ਸਰਨਿ ਸੇਂਘ ॥੨॥ |
| jaisae paalan saran saenagh ||2|| |
| as one is protected in the tiger's lair;||2|| |
|
| ਗਰੁੜ ਮੁਖਿ ਨਹੀ ਸਰਪ ਤ੍ਰਾਸ ॥ |
| garurr mukh nehee sarap thraas || |
| As with the magic spell of Garuda the eagle upon one's lips, one does not fear the snake; |

| ਸੂਆ ਪਿੰਜਰਿ ਨਹੀ ਖਾਇ ਬਿਲਾਸੁ ॥ |
| sooaa pinjar nehee khaae bilaas || |
| as the cat cannot eat the parrot in its cage; |
|
| ਜੈਸੋ ਆਂਡੋ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਮਾਹਿ ॥ |
| jaiso aaanddo hiradhae maahi || |
| as the bird cherishes her eggs in her heart; |
|
| ਜੈਸੋ ਦਾਨੋ ਚਕੀ ਦਰਾਹਿ ॥੩॥ |
| jaiso dhaano chakee dharaahi ||3|| |
| as the grains are spared, by sticking to the central post of the mill;||3|| |
|
| ਬਹੁਤੁ ਓਪਮਾ ਥੋਰ ਕਹੀ ॥ |
| bahuth oupamaa thhor kehee || |
| Your Glory is so great; I can describe only a tiny bit of it. |
|
| ਹਰਿ ਅਗਮ ਅਗਮ ਅਗਾਧਿ ਤੁਹੀ ॥ |
| har agam agam agaadhh thuhee || |
| O Lord, You are inaccessible, unapproachable and unfathomable. |
|
| ਊਚ ਮੂਚੌ ਬਹੁ ਅਪਾਰ ॥ |
| ooch moocha bahu apaar || |
| You are lofty and high, utterly great and infinite. |
|

| I lay my forehead on the feet of the Saints, |

| nain dharas paekho nis bhor || |
| and with my eyes, I gaze upon the Blessed Vision of their Darshan, day and night. |

| ਹਸਤ ਹਮਰੇ ਸੰਤ ਟਹਲ ॥ |
| hasath hamarae santh ttehal || |
| With my hands, I work for the Saints. |
|
| ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਮਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਸੰਤ ਬਹਲ ॥੧॥ |
| praan man dhhan santh behal ||1|| |
| I dedicate my breath of life, my mind and wealth to the Saints. ||1|| |

| ਸੰਤਸੰਗਿ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਕੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ॥ |

| My mind loves the Society of the Saints. |
