| ਮਾ ਲਾਲੀ ਪਿਉ ਲਾਲਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਹਉ ਲਾਲੇ ਕਾ ਜਾਇਆ ॥ |
| maa laalee pio laalaa maeraa ho laalae kaa jaaeiaa || |
| My mother is Your slave, and my father is Your slave; I am the child of Your slaves. |

| ਲਾਲੀ ਨਾਚੈ ਲਾਲਾ ਗਾਵੈ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਉ ਤੇਰੀ ਰਾਇਆ ॥੨॥ |
| laalee naachai laalaa gaavai bhagath karo thaeree raaeiaa ||2|| |
| My slave mother dances, and my slave father sings; I practice devotional worship to You, O my Sovereign Lord. ||2|| |

| ਪੀਅਹਿ ਤ ਪਾਣੀ ਆਣੀ ਮੀਰਾ ਖਾਹਿ ਤ ਪੀਸਣ ਜਾਉ ॥ |
| peeahi th paanee aanee meeraa khaahi th peesan jaao || |
| If You wish to drink, then I shall get water for You; if You wish to eat, I shall grind the corn for You. |

| ਪਖਾ ਫੇਰੀ ਪੈਰ ਮਲੋਵਾ ਜਪਤ ਰਹਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਉ ॥੩॥ |
| pakhaa faeree pair malovaa japath rehaa thaeraa naao ||3|| |
| I wave the fan over You, and wash Your feet, and continue to chant Your Name. ||3|| |

| ਲੂਣ ਹਰਾਮੀ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਲਾਲਾ ਬਖਸਿਹਿ ਤੁਧੁ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥ |
| loon haraamee naanak laalaa bakhasihi thudhh vaddiaaee || |
| I have been untrue to myself, but Nanak is Your slave; please forgive him, by Your glorious greatness. |

| ਆਦਿ ਜੁਗਾਦਿ ਦਇਆਪਤਿ ਦਾਤਾ ਤੁਧੁ ਵਿਣੁ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥੪॥੬॥ |
| aadh jugaadh dhaeiaapath dhaathaa thudhh vin mukath n paaee ||4||6|| |
| Since the very beginning of time, and throughout the ages, You have been the merciful and generous Lord. Without You, liberation cannot be attained. ||4||6|| |

| Some call him a ghost; some say that he is a demon. |

| ਕੋਈ ਆਖੈ ਆਦਮੀ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਵੇਚਾਰਾ ॥੧॥ |
| koee aakhai aadhamee naanak vaechaaraa ||1|| |
| Some call him a mere mortal; O, poor Nanak! ||1|| |

| ਭਇਆ ਦਿਵਾਨਾ ਸਾਹ ਕਾ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਬਉਰਾਨਾ ॥ |
| bhaeiaa dhivaanaa saah kaa naanak bouraanaa || |
| Crazy Nanak has gone insane, after his Lord, the King. |

| ਹਉ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਜਾਨਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |

| ਤਉ ਦੇਵਾਨਾ ਜਾਣੀਐ ਜਾ ਭੈ ਦੇਵਾਨਾ ਹੋਇ ॥ |
| tho dhaevaanaa jaaneeai jaa bhai dhaevaanaa hoe || |
| He alone is known to be insane, when he goes insane with the Fear of God. |

| ਏਕੀ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਬਾਹਰਾ ਦੂਜਾ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ਕੋਇ ॥੨॥ |
| eaekee saahib baaharaa dhoojaa avar n jaanai koe ||2|| |
| He recognizes none other than the One Lord and Master. ||2|| |

| ਤਉ ਦੇਵਾਨਾ ਜਾਣੀਐ ਜਾ ਏਕਾ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਇ ॥ |
| tho dhaevaanaa jaaneeai jaa eaekaa kaar kamaae || |
| He alone is known to be insane, if he works for the One Lord. |

| ਹੁਕਮੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ਖਸਮ ਕਾ ਦੂਜੀ ਅਵਰ ਸਿਆਣਪ ਕਾਇ ॥੩॥ |
| hukam pashhaanai khasam kaa dhoojee avar siaanap kaae ||3|| |
| Recognizing the Hukam, the Command of his Lord and Master, what other cleverness is there? ||3|| |

| ਤਉ ਦੇਵਾਨਾ ਜਾਣੀਐ ਜਾ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਧਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥ |
| tho dhaevaanaa jaaneeai jaa saahib dhharae piaar || |
| He alone is known to be insane, when he falls in love with his Lord and Master. |

| ਮੰਦਾ ਜਾਣੈ ਆਪ ਕਉ ਅਵਰੁ ਭਲਾ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥੪॥੭॥ |
| mandhaa jaanai aap ko avar bhalaa sansaar ||4||7|| |
| He sees himself as bad, and all the rest of the world as good. ||4||7|| |

| This wealth is all-pervading, permeating all. |

| ਮਨਮੁਖ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਸਿ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਦੂਰਿ ॥੧॥ |
| manamukh firehi s jaanehi dhoor ||1|| |
| The self-willed manmukh wanders around, thinking that it is far away. ||1|| |

| ਸੋ ਧਨੁ ਵਖਰੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਹਮਾਰੈ ॥ |
| so dhhan vakhar naam ridhai hamaarai || |
| That commodity, the wealth of the Naam, is within my heart. |

| ਜਿਸੁ ਤੂ ਦੇਹਿ ਤਿਸੈ ਨਿਸਤਾਰੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| jis thoo dhaehi thisai nisathaarai ||1|| rehaao || |
| Whoever You bless with it, is emancipated. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਨ ਇਹੁ ਧਨੁ ਜਲੈ ਨ ਤਸਕਰੁ ਲੈ ਜਾਇ ॥ |
| n eihu dhhan jalai n thasakar lai jaae || |
| This wealth does not burn; it cannot be stolen by a thief. |

| ਨ ਇਹੁ ਧਨੁ ਡੂਬੈ ਨ ਇਸੁ ਧਨ ਕਉ ਮਿਲੈ ਸਜਾਇ ॥੨॥ |
| n eihu dhhan ddoobai n eis dhhan ko milai sajaae ||2|| |
| This wealth does not drown, and its owner is never punished. ||2|| |

| ਇਸੁ ਧਨ ਕੀ ਦੇਖਹੁ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥ |
| eis dhhan kee dhaekhahu vaddiaaee || |
| Gaze upon the glorious greatness of this wealth, |
 |
| ਸਹਜੇ ਮਾਤੇ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਜਾਈ ॥੩॥ |
| sehajae maathae anadhin jaaee ||3|| |
| and your nights and days will pass, imbued with celestial peace. ||3|| |

| ਇਕ ਬਾਤ ਅਨੂਪ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਨਰ ਭਾਈ ॥ |
| eik baath anoop sunahu nar bhaaee || |
| Listen to this incomparably beautiful story, O my brothers, O Siblings of Destiny. |

| ਇਸੁ ਧਨ ਬਿਨੁ ਕਹਹੁ ਕਿਨੈ ਪਰਮ ਗਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥੪॥ |
| eis dhhan bin kehahu kinai param gath paaee ||4|| |
| Tell me, without this wealth, who has ever obtained the supreme status? ||4|| |

| ਭਣਤਿ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਅਕਥ ਕੀ ਕਥਾ ਸੁਣਾਏ ॥ |

| Nanak humbly prays, I proclaim the Unspoken Speech of the Lord. |

| ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਤ ਇਹੁ ਧਨੁ ਪਾਏ ॥੫॥੮॥ |
| sathigur milai th eihu dhhan paaeae ||5||8|| |
| If one meets the True Guru, then this wealth is obtained. ||5||8|| |

| soor sar sos lai som sar pokh lai jugath kar marath s sanabandhh keejai || |
| Heat up the sun energy of the right nostril, and cool down the moon energy of the left nostril; practicing this breath-control, bring them into perfect balance. |

| ਮੀਨ ਕੀ ਚਪਲ ਸਿਉ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਖੀਐ ਉਡੈ ਨਹ ਹੰਸੁ ਨਹ ਕੰਧੁ ਛੀਜੈ ॥੧॥ |
| meen kee chapal sio jugath man raakheeai ouddai neh hans neh kandhh shheejai ||1|| |
| In this way, the fickle fish of the mind will be held steady; the swan-soul shall not fly away, and the body-wall will not crumble. ||1|| |

| ਮੂੜੇ ਕਾਇਚੇ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾ ॥ |
| moorrae kaaeichae bharam bhulaa || |
| You fool, why are you deluded by doubt? |

| ਨਹ ਚੀਨਿਆ ਪਰਮਾਨੰਦੁ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |

| You do not remember the detached Lord of supreme bliss. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਅਜਰ ਗਹੁ ਜਾਰਿ ਲੈ ਅਮਰ ਗਹੁ ਮਾਰਿ ਲੈ ਭ੍ਰਾਤਿ ਤਜਿ ਛੋਡਿ ਤਉ ਅਪਿਉ ਪੀਜੈ ॥ |
| ajar gahu jaar lai amar gahu maar lai bhraath thaj shhodd tho apio peejai || |
| Seize and burn the unbearable; seize and kill the imperishable; leave behind your doubts, and then, you shall drink in the Nectar. |

| ਭਣਤਿ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਜਨੋ ਰਵੈ ਜੇ ਹਰਿ ਮਨੋ ਮਨ ਪਵਨ ਸਿਉ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀਜੈ ॥ |
| bhanath naanak jano ravai jae har mano man pavan sio anmrith peejai || |
| Nanak humbly prays, if the Lord's humble servant dwells upon Him, in his mind of minds, with his every breath, then he drinks in the Ambrosial Nectar. |

| ਮੀਨ ਕੀ ਚਪਲ ਸਿਉ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਖੀਐ ਉਡੈ ਨਹ ਹੰਸੁ ਨਹ ਕੰਧੁ ਛੀਜੈ ॥੩॥੯॥ |

| Maya is not conquered, and the mind is not subdued; the waves of desire in the world-ocean are intoxicating wine. |

| ਬੋਹਿਥੁ ਜਲ ਸਿਰਿ ਤਰਿ ਟਿਕੈ ਸਾਚਾ ਵਖਰੁ ਜਿਤੁ ॥ |
| bohithh jal sir thar ttikai saachaa vakhar jith || |
| The boat crosses over the water, carrying the true merchandise. |

| ਮਾਣਕੁ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਰਸੀ ਸਚਿ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਕਤੁ ॥ |
| maanak man mehi man maarasee sach n laagai kath || |
| The jewel within the mind subdues the mind; attached to the Truth, it is not broken. |

| ਰਾਜਾ ਤਖਤਿ ਟਿਕੈ ਗੁਣੀ ਭੈ ਪੰਚਾਇਣ ਰਤੁ ॥੧॥ |
| raajaa thakhath ttikai gunee bhai panchaaein rath ||1|| |
| The king is seated upon the throne, imbued with the Fear of God and the five qualities. ||1|| |

| ਬਾਬਾ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਦੂਰਿ ਨ ਦੇਖੁ ॥ |
| baabaa saachaa saahib dhoor n dhaekh || |
| O Baba, do not see your True Lord and Master as being far away. |

| ਸਰਬ ਜੋਤਿ ਜਗਜੀਵਨਾ ਸਿਰਿ ਸਿਰਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਲੇਖੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| sarab joth jagajeevanaa sir sir saachaa laekh ||1|| rehaao || |
| He is the Light of all, the Life of the world; The True Lord writes His Inscription on each and every head. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਬਿਸਨੁ ਰਿਖੀ ਮੁਨੀ ਸੰਕਰੁ ਇੰਦੁ ਤਪੈ ਭੇਖਾਰੀ ॥ |
| brehamaa bisan rikhee munee sankar eindh thapai bhaekhaaree || |
| Brahma and Vishnu, the Rishis and the silent sages, Shiva and Indra, penitents and beggars |

| ਮਾਨੈ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਸੋਹੈ ਦਰਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਆਕੀ ਮਰਹਿ ਅਫਾਰੀ ॥ |
| maanai hukam sohai dhar saachai aakee marehi afaaree || |
| - whoever obeys the Hukam of the Lord's Command, looks beautiful in the Court of the True Lord, while the stubborn rebels die. |

| ਜੰਗਮ ਜੋਧ ਜਤੀ ਸੰਨਿਆਸੀ ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ॥ |
| jangam jodhh jathee sanniaasee gur poorai veechaaree || |
| The wandering beggars, warriors, celibates and Sannyaasee hermits - through the Perfect Guru, consider this: |

| ਬਿਨੁ ਸੇਵਾ ਫਲੁ ਕਬਹੁ ਨ ਪਾਵਸਿ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਣੀ ਸਾਰੀ ॥੨॥ |
| bin saevaa fal kabahu n paavas saevaa karanee saaree ||2|| |
| without selfless service, no one ever receives the fruits of their rewards. Serving the Lord is the most excellent action. ||2|| |
