| jae har suprasann hovai maeraa suaamee har simarath mal lehi jaavai jeeo ||3|| |
| When my Lord and Master is totally pleased, He leads the mortal to meditate in remembrance on the Lord, and then his filth is taken away. ||3|| |

| Attachment to Maya is terribly treacherous. |

| How can one cross over the difficult world-ocean? |

| You are everywhere; all are Yours. |

| Chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, O my mind. |

| ਸਭਿ ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਕਾਟੈ ਹਰਿ ਤੇਰੇ ॥ |
| sabh kilavikh kaattai har thaerae || |
| The Lord shall eradicate all your sins. |

| ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਸੰਚਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਚਲਦਿਆ ਨਾਲਿ ਸਖਾਈ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥ |
| har dhhan raakhahu har dhhan sanchahu har chaladhiaa naal sakhaaee jeeo ||1|| |
| Treasure the Lord's wealth, and gather in the Lord's wealth; when you depart in the end, the Lord shall go along with you as your only friend and companion. ||1|| |

| ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਸੋ ਧਿਆਵੈ ॥ |
| jis no kirapaa karae so dhhiaavai || |
| He alone meditates on the Lord, unto whom He grants His Grace. |

| ਨਿਤ ਹਰਿ ਜਪੁ ਜਾਪੈ ਜਪਿ ਹਰਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥ |
| nith har jap jaapai jap har sukh paavai || |
| He continually chants the Lord's Chant; meditating on the Lord, one finds peace. |

| ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਆਵੈ ਜਪਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਰਿ ਲੰਘਾਈ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |

| By Guru's Grace, the sublime essence of the Lord is obtained. Meditating on the Lord, Har, Har, one is carried across. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੁ ਸਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ॥ |
| nirabho nirankaar sath naam || |
| The fearless, formless Lord - the Name is Truth. |

| ਜਗ ਮਹਿ ਸ੍ਰੇਸਟੁ ਊਤਮ ਕਾਮੁ ॥ |
| jag mehi sraesatt ootham kaam || |
| To chant it is the most sublime and exalted activity in this world. |
|
| ਦੁਸਮਨ ਦੂਤ ਜਮਕਾਲੁ ਠੇਹ ਮਾਰਉ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵਕ ਨੇੜਿ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥ |
| dhusaman dhooth jamakaal thaeh maaro har saevak naerr n jaaee jeeo ||2|| |
| Doing so, the Messenger of Death, the evil enemy, is killed. Death does not even approach the Lord's servant. ||2|| |
|
| ਜਿਸੁ ਉਪਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ॥ |
| jis oupar har kaa man maaniaa || |
| One whose mind is satisfied with the Lord |
|
| ਸੋ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਚਹੁ ਜੁਗ ਚਹੁ ਕੁੰਟ ਜਾਨਿਆ ॥ |
| so saevak chahu jug chahu kuntt jaaniaa || |
| that servant is known throughout the four ages, in all four directions. |

| ਜੇ ਉਸ ਕਾ ਬੁਰਾ ਕਹੈ ਕੋਈ ਪਾਪੀ ਤਿਸੁ ਜਮਕੰਕਰੁ ਖਾਈ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥ |
| jae ous kaa buraa kehai koee paapee this jamakankar khaaee jeeo ||3|| |
| If some sinner speaks evil of him, the Messenger of Death chews him up. ||3|| |
|
| ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਏਕੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਕਰਤਾ ॥ |
| sabh mehi eaek niranjan karathaa || |
| The One Pure Creator Lord is in all. |
|
| ਸਭਿ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਖੈ ਅਪਣੇ ਚਲਤਾ ॥ |
| sabh kar kar vaekhai apanae chalathaa || |
| He stages all His wondrous plays, and watches them. |
|
| ਜਿਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਖੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਕਉਣੁ ਮਾਰੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਆਪਿ ਛਡਾਈ ਜੀਉ ॥੪॥ |
| jis har raakhai this koun maarai jis karathaa aap shhaddaaee jeeo ||4|| |
| Who can kill that person, whom the Lord has saved? The Creator Lord Himself delivers him. ||4|| |

| ਹਉ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਲਈ ਕਰਤਾਰੇ ॥ |
| ho anadhin naam lee karathaarae || |
| I chant the Name of the Creator Lord, night and day. |
|
| ਜਿਨਿ ਸੇਵਕ ਭਗਤ ਸਭੇ ਨਿਸਤਾਰੇ ॥ |
| jin saevak bhagath sabhae nisathaarae || |
| He saves all His servants and devotees. |
|
| ਦਸ ਅਠ ਚਾਰਿ ਵੇਦ ਸਭਿ ਪੂਛਹੁ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਛਡਾਈ ਜੀਉ ॥੫॥੨॥੮॥ |
| dhas ath chaar vaedh sabh pooshhahu jan naanak naam shhaddaaee jeeo ||5||2||8|| |
| Consult the eighteen Puraanas and the four Vedas; O servant Nanak, only the Naam, the Name of the Lord, will deliver you. ||5||2||8|| |

| ddarapai dhharath akaas nakhyathraa sir oopar amar karaaraa || |
| The earth, the Akaashic ethers and the stars abide in the Fear of God. The almighty Order of the Lord is over the heads of all. |

| ਪਉਣੁ ਪਾਣੀ ਬੈਸੰਤਰੁ ਡਰਪੈ ਡਰਪੈ ਇੰਦ੍ਰੁ ਬਿਚਾਰਾ ॥੧॥ |
| poun paanee baisanthar ddarapai ddarapai eindhra bichaaraa ||1|| |
| Wind, water and fire abide in the Fear of God; poor Indra abides in the Fear of God as well. ||1|| |
|
| ਏਕਾ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਬਾਤ ਸੁਨੀ ॥ |
| eaekaa nirabho baath sunee || |
| I have heard one thing, that the One Lord alone is fearless. |
|
| ਸੋ ਸੁਖੀਆ ਸੋ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਹੇਲਾ ਜੋ ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਗਾਇ ਗੁਨੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| so sukheeaa so sadhaa suhaelaa jo gur mil gaae gunee ||1|| rehaao || |
| He alone is at peace, and he alone is embellished forever, who meets with the Guru, and sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਦੇਹਧਾਰ ਅਰੁ ਦੇਵਾ ਡਰਪਹਿ ਸਿਧ ਸਾਧਿਕ ਡਰਿ ਮੁਇਆ ॥ |
| dhaehadhhaar ar dhaevaa ddarapehi sidhh saadhhik ddar mueiaa || |
| The embodied and the divine beings abide in the Fear of God. The Siddhas and seekers die in the Fear of God. |
|
| ਰਾਜਸੁ ਸਾਤਕੁ ਤਾਮਸੁ ਡਰਪਹਿ ਕੇਤੇ ਰੂਪ ਉਪਾਇਆ ॥ |
| raajas saathak thaamas ddarapehi kaethae roop oupaaeiaa || |
| Those who embody the energies of sattva-white light, raajas-red passion, and taamas-black darkness, abide in the Fear of God, along with the many created forms. |

| ਛਲ ਬਪੁਰੀ ਇਹ ਕਉਲਾ ਡਰਪੈ ਅਤਿ ਡਰਪੈ ਧਰਮ ਰਾਇਆ ॥੩॥ |
| shhal bapuree eih koulaa ddarapai ath ddarapai dhharam raaeiaa ||3|| |
| This miserable deceiver Maya abides in the Fear of God; the Righteous Judge of Dharma is utterly afraid of Him as well. ||3|| |

| ਸਗਲ ਸਮਗ੍ਰੀ ਡਰਹਿ ਬਿਆਪੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਡਰ ਕਰਣੈਹਾਰਾ ॥ |
| sagal samagree ddarehi biaapee bin ddar karanaihaaraa || |
| The entire expanse of the Universe is in the Fear of God; only the Creator Lord is without this Fear. |

| ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਭਗਤਨ ਕਾ ਸੰਗੀ ਭਗਤ ਸੋਹਹਿ ਦਰਬਾਰਾ ॥੪॥੧॥ |
| kahu naanak bhagathan kaa sangee bhagath sohehi dharabaaraa ||4||1|| |
| Says Nanak, God is the companion of His devotees; His devotees look beautiful in the Court of the Lord. ||4||1|| |

| paanch barakh ko anaathh dhhroo baarik har simarath amar attaarae || |
| The five year old orphan boy Dhroo, by meditating in remembrance on the Lord, became stationary and permanent. |

| ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਹੇਤਿ ਨਾਰਾਇਣੁ ਕਹਿਓ ਜਮਕੰਕਰ ਮਾਰਿ ਬਿਦਾਰੇ ॥੧॥ |
| puthr haeth naaraaein kehiou jamakankar maar bidhaarae ||1|| |
| For the sake of his son, Ajaamal called out, ""O Lord, Naaraayan"", who struck down and killed the Messenger of Death. ||1|| |
|
| ਮੇਰੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਕੇਤੇ ਅਗਨਤ ਉਧਾਰੇ ॥ |
| maerae thaakur kaethae aganath oudhhaarae || |
| My Lord and Master has saved many, countless beings. |
|
| ਮੋਹਿ ਦੀਨ ਅਲਪ ਮਤਿ ਨਿਰਗੁਣ ਪਰਿਓ ਸਰਣਿ ਦੁਆਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| mohi dheen alap math niragun pariou saran dhuaarae ||1|| rehaao || |
| I am meek, with little or no understanding, and unworthy; I seek protection at the Lord's Door. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਬਾਲਮੀਕੁ ਸੁਪਚਾਰੋ ਤਰਿਓ ਬਧਿਕ ਤਰੇ ਬਿਚਾਰੇ ॥ |
| baalameek supachaaro thariou badhhik tharae bichaarae || |
| Baalmeek the outcaste was saved, and the poor hunter was saved as well. |

| ਏਕ ਨਿਮਖ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ਅਰਾਧਿਓ ਗਜਪਤਿ ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਾਰੇ ॥੨॥ |
| eaek nimakh man maahi araadhhiou gajapath paar outhaarae ||2|| |
| The elephant remembered the Lord in his mind for an instant, and so was carried across. ||2|| |
|
| ਕੀਨੀ ਰਖਿਆ ਭਗਤ ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦੈ ਹਰਨਾਖਸ ਨਖਹਿ ਬਿਦਾਰੇ ॥ |
| keenee rakhiaa bhagath prehilaadhai haranaakhas nakhehi bidhaarae || |
| He saved His devotee Prahlaad, and tore Harnaakhash with his nails. |
|
| ਬਿਦਰੁ ਦਾਸੀ ਸੁਤੁ ਭਇਓ ਪੁਨੀਤਾ ਸਗਲੇ ਕੁਲ ਉਜਾਰੇ ॥੩॥ |
| bidhar dhaasee suth bhaeiou puneethaa sagalae kul oujaarae ||3|| |
| Bidar, the son of a slave-girl, was purified, and all his generations were redeemed. ||3|| |
|
| ਕਵਨ ਪਰਾਧ ਬਤਾਵਉ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਮਿਥਿਆ ਮੋਹ ਮਗਨਾਰੇ ॥ |
| kavan paraadhh bathaavo apunae mithhiaa moh maganaarae || |
| What sins of mine should I speak of? I am intoxicated with false emotional attachment. |
|
| ਆਇਓ ਸਾਮ ਨਾਨਕ ਓਟ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਲੀਜੈ ਭੁਜਾ ਪਸਾਰੇ ॥੪॥੨॥ |
| aaeiou saam naanak outt har kee leejai bhujaa pasaarae ||4||2|| |
| Nanak has entered the Sanctuary of the Lord; please, reach out and take me into Your embrace. ||4||2|| |

| For the sake of riches, I wandered around in so many ways; I rushed around, making all sorts of efforts. |
