| No one is turned away from Him empty-handed. |

| ਮਾਤ ਗਰਭ ਮਹਿ ਜਿਨਿ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਰਿਆ ॥ |
| maath garabh mehi jin prathipaariaa || |
| He cherished and preserved you in your mother's womb; |
|
| ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਦੇ ਸਾਜਿ ਸਵਾਰਿਆ ॥ |
| jeeo pindd dhae saaj savaariaa || |
| He blessed you with body and soul, and embellished you. |
|
| ਸੋਈ ਬਿਧਾਤਾ ਖਿਨੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਜਪੀਐ ॥ |
| soee bidhhaathaa khin khin japeeai || |
| Each and every instant, meditate on that Creator Lord. |
|
| ਜਿਸੁ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਅਵਗੁਣ ਸਭਿ ਢਕੀਐ ॥ |
| jis simarath avagun sabh dtakeeai || |
| Meditating in remembrance on Him, all faults and mistakes are covered. |
|
| ਚਰਣ ਕਮਲ ਉਰ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਧਾਰਹੁ ॥ |
| charan kamal our anthar dhhaarahu || |
| Enshrine the Lord's lotus feet deep within the nucleus of your self. |
|
| ਬਿਖਿਆ ਬਨ ਤੇ ਜੀਉ ਉਧਾਰਹੁ ॥ |
| bikhiaa ban thae jeeo oudhhaarahu || |
| Save your soul from the waters of corruption. |
|
| ਕਰਣ ਪਲਾਹ ਮਿਟਹਿ ਬਿਲਲਾਟਾ ॥ |
| karan palaah mittehi bilalaattaa || |
| Your cries and shrieks shall be ended; |
|
| ਜਪਿ ਗੋਵਿਦ ਭਰਮੁ ਭਉ ਫਾਟਾ ॥ |
| jap govidh bharam bho faattaa || |
| meditating on the Lord of the Universe, your doubts and fears shall be dispelled. |

| ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਕੋ ਪਾਏ ॥ |
| saadhhasang viralaa ko paaeae || |
| Rare is that being, who finds the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. |
|
| ਨਾਨਕੁ ਤਾ ਕੈ ਬਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਏ ॥੧॥ |

| The Lord's Name is the support of my mind and body. |

| He believes that the false thing is true. |
|
| ਹਿਤੁ ਲਾਇਓ ਸਠ ਮੂੜ ਅਗਿਆਨੀ ॥ |
| hith laaeiou sath moorr agiaanee || |
| The ignorant fool falls in love with it. |
|
| ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਲੋਭ ਮਦ ਮਾਤਾ ॥ |
| kaam krodhh lobh madh maathaa || |
| He is intoxicated with the wine of sexual desire, anger and greed; |
|
| ਕਉਡੀ ਬਦਲੈ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਤਾ ॥ |
| kouddee badhalai janam gavaathaa || |
| he loses this human life in exchance for a mere shell. |
|
| ਅਪਨਾ ਛੋਡਿ ਪਰਾਇਐ ਰਾਤਾ ॥ |
| apanaa shhodd paraaeiai raathaa || |
| He abandons his own, and loves that of others. |
|
| ਮਾਇਆ ਮਦ ਮਨ ਤਨ ਸੰਗਿ ਜਾਤਾ ॥ |
| maaeiaa madh man than sang jaathaa || |
| His mind and body are permeated with the intoxication of Maya. |
|
| ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨ ਨ ਬੂਝੈ ਕਰਤ ਕਲੋਲਾ ॥ |
| thrisan n boojhai karath kalolaa || |
| His thirsty desires are not quenched, although he indulges in pleasures. |
|
| ਊਣੀ ਆਸ ਮਿਥਿਆ ਸਭਿ ਬੋਲਾ ॥ |
| oonee aas mithhiaa sabh bolaa || |
| His hopes are not fulfilled, and all his words are false. |
|
| ਹਮ ਤੁਮ ਸੰਗਿ ਝੂਠੇ ਸਭਿ ਬੋਲਾ ॥ |
| ham thum sang jhoothae sabh bolaa || |
| False is all his talk of me and you. |
|
| ਪਾਇ ਠਗਉਰੀ ਆਪਿ ਭੁਲਾਇਓ ॥ |

| The Lord Himself administers the poisonous potion, to mislead and delude. |
|
| ਨਾਨਕ ਕਿਰਤੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ਮਿਟਾਇਓ ॥੨॥ |

| Beasts, birds, demons and ghosts |

| - in these many ways, the false wander in reincarnation. |
|
| ਜਹ ਜਾਨੋ ਤਹ ਰਹਨੁ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ॥ |
| jeh jaano theh rehan n paavai || |
| Wherever they go, they cannot remain there. |
|
| ਥਾਨ ਬਿਹੂਨ ਉਠਿ ਉਠਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਧਾਵੈ ॥ |

| They have no place of rest; they rise up again and again and run around. |
|
| ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਬਾਸਨਾ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਬਿਸਥਾਰਾ ॥ |
| man than baasanaa bahuth bisathhaaraa || |
| Their minds and bodies are filled with immense, expansive desires. |
|
| ਅਹੰਮੇਵ ਮੂਠੋ ਬੇਚਾਰਾ ॥ |
| ahanmaev mootho baechaaraa || |
| The poor wretches are cheated by egotism. |
|
| ਅਨਿਕ ਦੋਖ ਅਰੁ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਸਜਾਈ ॥ |
| anik dhokh ar bahuth sajaaee || |
| They are filled with countless sins, and are severely punished. |
|
| ਤਾ ਕੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥ |
| thaa kee keemath kehan n jaaee || |
| The extent of this cannot be estimated. |
|
| ਪ੍ਰਭ ਬਿਸਰਤ ਨਰਕ ਮਹਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ |

| Forgetting God, they fall into hell. |
|
| ਤਹ ਮਾਤ ਨ ਬੰਧੁ ਨ ਮੀਤ ਨ ਜਾਇਆ ॥ |

| There are no mothers there, no siblings, no friends and no spouses. |
|
| ਜਿਸ ਕਉ ਹੋਤ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥ |

| Those humble beings, unto whom the Lord and Master becomes Merciful, |
|
| ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਪਾਰਗਰਾਮੀ ॥੩॥ |

| ਭ੍ਰਮਤ ਭ੍ਰਮਤ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਰਨੀ ਆਇਆ ॥ |

| Rambling and roaming, wandering around, I came to seek the Sanctuary of God. |

| He is the Master of the meek, the father and mother of the world. |

| ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦਇਆਲ ਦੁਖ ਦਰਦ ਬਿਦਾਰਣ ॥ |

| The Merciful Lord God is the Destroyer of sorrow and suffering. |

| ਜਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਸ ਹੀ ਨਿਸਤਾਰਣ ॥ |

| He emancipates whoever He pleases. |
|
| ਅੰਧ ਕੂਪ ਤੇ ਕਾਢਨਹਾਰਾ ॥ |

| He lifts them up and pulls him out of the deep dark pit. |
|
| ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਭਗਤਿ ਹੋਵਤ ਨਿਸਤਾਰਾ ॥ |

| Emancipation comes through loving devotional worship. |
|
| ਸਾਧ ਰੂਪ ਅਪਨਾ ਤਨੁ ਧਾਰਿਆ ॥ |
| saadhh roop apanaa than dhhaariaa || |
| The Holy Saint is the very embodiment of the Lord's form. |
|
| ਮਹਾ ਅਗਨਿ ਤੇ ਆਪਿ ਉਬਾਰਿਆ ॥ |
| mehaa agan thae aap oubaariaa || |
| He Himself saves us from the great fire. |
|
| ਜਪ ਤਪ ਸੰਜਮ ਇਸ ਤੇ ਕਿਛੁ ਨਾਹੀ ॥ |
| jap thap sanjam eis thae kishh naahee || |
| By myself, I cannot practice meditation, austerities, penance and self-discipline. |
|
| ਆਦਿ ਅੰਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਅਗਮ ਅਗਾਹੀ ॥ |
| aadh anth prabh agam agaahee || |
| In the beginning and in the end, God is inaccessible and unfathomable. |
|
| ਨਾਮੁ ਦੇਹਿ ਮਾਗੈ ਦਾਸੁ ਤੇਰਾ ॥ |

| Please bless me with Your Name, Lord; Your slave begs only for this. |
