| ਆਗੈ ਪਾਛੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਨਹੀ ਗਾਡੇ ਲਾਦੇ ਛਾਰੁ ॥ |
| aagai paashhai sukh nehee gaaddae laadhae shhaar || |
| Here and hereafter, they do not find any peace; they have loaded their carts with ashes. |

| ਵਿਛੁੜਿਆ ਮੇਲਾ ਨਹੀ ਦੂਖੁ ਘਣੋ ਜਮ ਦੁਆਰਿ ॥੩॥ |
| vishhurriaa maelaa nehee dhookh ghano jam dhuaar ||3|| |
| Those who are separated, do not meet with the Lord; they suffer in terrible pain at Death's Door. ||3|| |
|
| ਅਗੈ ਕਿਆ ਜਾਣਾ ਨਾਹਿ ਮੈ ਭੂਲੇ ਤੂ ਸਮਝਾਇ ॥ |
| agai kiaa jaanaa naahi mai bhoolae thoo samajhaae || |
| I do not know what will happen in the world hereafter; I am so confused - please teach me, Lord! |

| ਭੂਲੇ ਮਾਰਗੁ ਜੋ ਦਸੇ ਤਿਸ ਕੈ ਲਾਗਉ ਪਾਇ ॥ |
| bhoolae maarag jo dhasae this kai laago paae || |
| I am confused; I would fall at the feet of one who shows me the Way. |

| ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਕੋ ਨਹੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥੪॥ |
| gur bin dhaathaa ko nehee keemath kehan n jaae ||4|| |
| Without the Guru, there is no giver at all; His value cannot be described. ||4|| |
|
| ਸਾਜਨੁ ਦੇਖਾ ਤਾ ਗਲਿ ਮਿਲਾ ਸਾਚੁ ਪਠਾਇਓ ਲੇਖੁ ॥ |
| saajan dhaekhaa thaa gal milaa saach pathaaeiou laekh || |
| If I see my friend, then I will embrace Him; I have sent Him the letter of Truth. |

| ਮੁਖਿ ਧਿਮਾਣੈ ਧਨ ਖੜੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਆਖੀ ਦੇਖੁ ॥ |
| mukh dhhimaanai dhhan kharree guramukh aakhee dhaekh || |
| His soul-bride stands waiting expectantly; as Gurmukh, I see Him with my eyes. |
|
| ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤੂ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਹਿ ਨਦਰੀ ਕਰਮਿ ਵਿਸੇਖੁ ॥੫॥ |
| thudhh bhaavai thoo man vasehi nadharee karam visaekh ||5|| |
| By the Pleasure of Your Will, You abide in my mind, and bless me with Your Glance of Grace. ||5|| |
|
| ਭੂਖ ਪਿਆਸੋ ਜੇ ਭਵੈ ਕਿਆ ਤਿਸੁ ਮਾਗਉ ਦੇਇ ॥ |
| bhookh piaaso jae bhavai kiaa this maago dhaee || |
| One who is wandering hungry and thirsty - what can he give, and what can anyone ask from him? |
|
| ਬੀਜਉ ਸੂਝੈ ਕੋ ਨਹੀ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਪੂਰਨੁ ਦੇਇ ॥ |
| beejo soojhai ko nehee man than pooran dhaee || |
| I cannot conceive of any other, who can bless my mind and body with perfection. |
|
| ਜਿਨਿ ਕੀਆ ਤਿਨਿ ਦੇਖਿਆ ਆਪਿ ਵਡਾਈ ਦੇਇ ॥੬॥ |
| jin keeaa thin dhaekhiaa aap vaddaaee dhaee ||6|| |
| The One who created me takes care of me; He Himself blesses me with glory. ||6|| |
|
| ਨਗਰੀ ਨਾਇਕੁ ਨਵਤਨੋ ਬਾਲਕੁ ਲੀਲ ਅਨੂਪੁ ॥ |
| nagaree naaeik navathano baalak leel anoop || |
| In the body-village is my Lord and Master, whose body is ever-new, Innocent and child-like, incomparably playful. |
|
| ਨਾਰਿ ਨ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਪੰਖਣੂ ਸਾਚਉ ਚਤੁਰੁ ਸਰੂਪੁ ॥ |
| naar n purakh n pankhanoo saacho chathur saroop || |
| He is neither a woman, nor a man, nor a bird; the True Lord is so wise and beautiful. |
|
| ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਥੀਐ ਤੂ ਦੀਪਕੁ ਤੂ ਧੂਪੁ ॥੭॥ |
| jo this bhaavai so thheeai thoo dheepak thoo dhhoop ||7|| |
| Whatever pleases Him, happens; You are the lamp, and You are the incense. ||7|| |
|
| ਗੀਤ ਸਾਦ ਚਾਖੇ ਸੁਣੇ ਬਾਦ ਸਾਦ ਤਨਿ ਰੋਗੁ ॥ |
| geeth saadh chaakhae sunae baadh saadh than rog || |
| He hears the songs and tastes the flavors, but these flavors are useless and insipid, and bring only disease to the body. |
|
| ਸਚੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸਾਚਉ ਚਵੈ ਛੂਟੈ ਸੋਗ ਵਿਜੋਗੁ ॥ |
| sach bhaavai saacho chavai shhoottai sog vijog || |
| One who loves the Truth and speaks the Truth, escapes from the sorrow of separation. |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਵੀਸਰੈ ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੁ ਹੋਗੁ ॥੮॥੩॥ |
| naanak naam n veesarai jo this bhaavai s hog ||8||3|| |
| Nanak does not forget the Naam; whatever happens is by the Lord's Will. ||8||3|| |

| Practice Truth - other greed and attachments are useless. |

| ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਸਾਚੈ ਮੋਹਿਆ ਜਿਹਵਾ ਸਚਿ ਸਾਦਿ ॥ |
| eihu man saachai mohiaa jihavaa sach saadh || |
| The True Lord has fascinated this mind, and my tongue enjoys the taste of Truth. |
|
| ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਕੋ ਰਸੁ ਨਹੀ ਹੋਰਿ ਚਲਹਿ ਬਿਖੁ ਲਾਦਿ ॥੧॥ |
| bin naavai ko ras nehee hor chalehi bikh laadh ||1|| |
| Without the Name, there is no juice; the others depart, loaded with poison. ||1|| |
|
| ਐਸਾ ਲਾਲਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਲਾਲ ਕੋ ਸੁਣਿ ਖਸਮ ਹਮਾਰੇ ॥ |
| aisaa laalaa maerae laal ko sun khasam hamaarae || |
| I am such a slave of Yours, O my Beloved Lord and Master. |
|
| ਜਿਉ ਫੁਰਮਾਵਹਿ ਤਿਉ ਚਲਾ ਸਚੁ ਲਾਲ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| jio furamaavehi thio chalaa sach laal piaarae ||1|| rehaao || |
| I walk in harmony with Your Command, O my True, Sweet Beloved. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਲਾਲੇ ਚਾਕਰੀ ਗੋਲੇ ਸਿਰਿ ਮੀਰਾ ॥ |
| anadhin laalae chaakaree golae sir meeraa || |
| Night and day, the slave works for his overlord. |
|
| ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਸਾਬਾਸਿ ਹੈ ਕਾਟੈ ਮਨ ਪੀਰਾ ॥੨॥ |
| gur poorae saabaas hai kaattai man peeraa ||2|| |
| The Perfect Guru is honored and celebrated; He has taken away the pains of my mind. ||2|| |
|
| ਲਾਲਾ ਗੋਲਾ ਧਣੀ ਕੋ ਕਿਆ ਕਹਉ ਵਡਿਆਈਐ ॥ |
| laalaa golaa dhhanee ko kiaa keho vaddiaaeeai || |
| I am the servant and slave of my Master; what glorious greatness of His can I describe? |
|
| ਭਾਣੈ ਬਖਸੇ ਪੂਰਾ ਧਣੀ ਸਚੁ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਈਐ ॥ |
| bhaanai bakhasae pooraa dhhanee sach kaar kamaaeeai || |
| The Perfect Master, by the Pleasure of His Will, forgives, and then one practices Truth. |
|
| ਵਿਛੁੜਿਆ ਕਉ ਮੇਲਿ ਲਏ ਗੁਰ ਕਉ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਈਐ ॥੩॥ |
| vishhurriaa ko mael leae gur ko bal jaaeeai ||3|| |
| I am a sacrifice to my Guru, who re-unites the separated ones. ||3|| |
|
| ਲਾਲੇ ਗੋਲੇ ਮਤਿ ਖਰੀ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਮਤਿ ਨੀਕੀ ॥ |
| laalae golae math kharee gur kee math neekee || |
| The intellect of His servant and slave is noble and true; it is made so by the Guru's intellect. |
|
| ਸਾਚੀ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਸੁਹਾਵਣੀ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮਤਿ ਫੀਕੀ ॥ |
| saachee surath suhaavanee manamukh math feekee || |
| The intuition of those who are true is beautiful; the intellect of the self-willed manmukh is insipid. |

| ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਤੂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਚੁ ਧੀਰਕ ਧੁਰ ਕੀ ॥੪॥ |
| man than thaeraa thoo prabhoo sach dhheerak dhhur kee ||4|| |
| My mind and body belong to You, God; from the very beginning, Truth has been my only support. ||4|| |
|
| ਸਾਚੈ ਬੈਸਣੁ ਉਠਣਾ ਸਚੁ ਭੋਜਨੁ ਭਾਖਿਆ ॥ |
| saachai baisan outhanaa sach bhojan bhaakhiaa || |
| In Truth I sit and stand; I eat and speak the Truth. |
|
| ਚਿਤਿ ਸਚੈ ਵਿਤੋ ਸਚਾ ਸਾਚਾ ਰਸੁ ਚਾਖਿਆ ॥ |
| chith sachai vitho sachaa saachaa ras chaakhiaa || |
| With Truth in my consciousness, I gather the wealth of Truth, and drink in the sublime essence of Truth. |

| ਸਾਚੈ ਘਰਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਰਖੇ ਗੁਰ ਬਚਨਿ ਸੁਭਾਖਿਆ ॥੫॥ |
| saachai ghar saachai rakhae gur bachan subhaakhiaa ||5|| |
| In the home of Truth, the True Lord protects me; I speak the Words of the Guru's Teachings with love. ||5|| |
|
| ਮਨਮੁਖ ਕਉ ਆਲਸੁ ਘਣੋ ਫਾਥੇ ਓਜਾੜੀ ॥ |
| manamukh ko aalas ghano faathhae oujaarree || |
| The self-willed manmukh is very lazy; he is trapped in the wilderness. |
|
| ਫਾਥਾ ਚੁਗੈ ਨਿਤ ਚੋਗੜੀ ਲਗਿ ਬੰਧੁ ਵਿਗਾੜੀ ॥ |
| faathhaa chugai nith chogarree lag bandhh vigaarree || |
| He is drawn to the bait, and continually pecking at it, he is trapped; his link to the Lord is ruined. |
|
| ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਮੁਕਤੁ ਹੋਇ ਸਾਚੇ ਨਿਜ ਤਾੜੀ ॥੬॥ |
| gur parasaadhee mukath hoe saachae nij thaarree ||6|| |
| By Guru's Grace, one is liberated, absorbed in the primal trance of Truth. ||6|| |
|
| ਅਨਹਤਿ ਲਾਲਾ ਬੇਧਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਹੇਤਿ ਪਿਆਰੀ ॥ |
| anehath laalaa baedhhiaa prabh haeth piaaree || |
| His slave remains continually pierced through with love and affection for God. |
|
| ਬਿਨੁ ਸਾਚੇ ਜੀਉ ਜਲਿ ਬਲਉ ਝੂਠੇ ਵੇਕਾਰੀ ॥ |
| bin saachae jeeo jal balo jhoothae vaekaaree || |
| Without the True Lord, the soul of the false, corrupt person is burnt to ashes. |
|
| ਬਾਦਿ ਕਾਰਾ ਸਭਿ ਛੋਡੀਆ ਸਾਚੀ ਤਰੁ ਤਾਰੀ ॥੭॥ |
| baadh kaaraa sabh shhoddeeaa saachee thar thaaree ||7|| |
| Abandoning all evil actions, he crosses over in the boat of Truth. ||7|| |
|
| ਜਿਨੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਆ ਤਿਨਾ ਠਉਰ ਨ ਠਾਉ ॥ |
| jinee naam visaariaa thinaa thour n thaao || |
| Those who have forgotten the Naam have no home, no place of rest. |
|
| ਲਾਲੈ ਲਾਲਚੁ ਤਿਆਗਿਆ ਪਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਉ ॥ |
| laalai laalach thiaagiaa paaeiaa har naao || |
| The Lord's slave renounces greed and attachment, and obtains the Lord's Name. |
|
| ਤੂ ਬਖਸਹਿ ਤਾ ਮੇਲਿ ਲੈਹਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਉ ॥੮॥੪॥ |
| thoo bakhasehi thaa mael laihi naanak bal jaao ||8||4|| |
| If You forgive him, Lord, then He is united with You; Nanak is a sacrifice. ||8||4|| |

| The Lord's slave renounces his egotistical pride through the Guru's Fear intuitively and easily. |

| ਲਾਲੈ ਖਸਮੁ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ਵਡੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥ |
| laalai khasam pashhaaniaa vaddee vaddiaaee || |
| The slave realizes his Lord and Master; glorious is his greatness! |
|
| ਖਸਮਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥੧॥ |
| khasam miliai sukh paaeiaa keemath kehan n jaaee ||1|| |
| Meeting with his Lord and Master, he finds peace; His value cannot be desribed. ||1|| |
|
| ਲਾਲਾ ਗੋਲਾ ਖਸਮ ਕਾ ਖਸਮੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥ |
| laalaa golaa khasam kaa khasamai vaddiaaee || |
| I am the slave and servant of my Lord and Master; all glory is to my Master. |
|
| ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਉਬਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| gur parasaadhee oubarae har kee saranaaee ||1|| rehaao || |
| By Guru's Grace, I am saved, in the Sanctuary of the Lord. ||1||Pause|| |
|
| ਲਾਲੇ ਨੋ ਸਿਰਿ ਕਾਰ ਹੈ ਧੁਰਿ ਖਸਮਿ ਫੁਰਮਾਈ ॥ |
| laalae no sir kaar hai dhhur khasam furamaaee || |
| The slave has been given the most excellent task, by the Primal Command of the Master. |
