| ਸੁਰਤਿ ਗਈ ਕਾਲੀ ਹੂ ਧਉਲੇ ਕਿਸੈ ਨ ਭਾਵੈ ਰਖਿਓ ਘਰੇ ॥ |
| surath gee kaalee hoo dhhoulae kisai n bhaavai rakhiou gharae || |
| His intellect fails him, his black hair turns white, and no one wants to keep him in their home. |

| ਬਿਸਰਤ ਨਾਮ ਐਸੇ ਦੋਖ ਲਾਗਹਿ ਜਮੁ ਮਾਰਿ ਸਮਾਰੇ ਨਰਕਿ ਖਰੇ ॥੮॥ |
| bisarath naam aisae dhokh laagehi jam maar samaarae narak kharae ||8|| |
| Forgetting the Naam, these are the stigmas which stick to him; the Messenger of Death beats him, and drags him to hell. ||8|| |

| ਪੂਰਬ ਜਨਮ ਕੋ ਲੇਖੁ ਨ ਮਿਟਈ ਜਨਮਿ ਮਰੈ ਕਾ ਕਉ ਦੋਸੁ ਧਰੇ ॥ |
| poorab janam ko laekh n mittee janam marai kaa ko dhos dhharae || |
| The record of one's past actions cannot be erased; who else is to blame for one's birth and death? |

| ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਬਾਦਿ ਜੀਵਣੁ ਹੋਰੁ ਮਰਣਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੈ ਜਨਮੁ ਜਰੇ ॥੯॥ |
| bin gur baadh jeevan hor maranaa bin gur sabadhai janam jarae ||9|| |
| Without the Guru, life and death are pointless; without the Word of the Guru's Shabad, life just burns away. ||9|| |

| ਖੁਸੀ ਖੁਆਰ ਭਏ ਰਸ ਭੋਗਣ ਫੋਕਟ ਕਰਮ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਕਰੇ ॥ |
| khusee khuaar bheae ras bhogan fokatt karam vikaar karae || |
| The pleasures enjoyed in happiness bring ruin; acting in corruption is useless indulgence. |

| ਨਾਮੁ ਬਿਸਾਰਿ ਲੋਭਿ ਮੂਲੁ ਖੋਇਓ ਸਿਰਿ ਧਰਮ ਰਾਇ ਕਾ ਡੰਡੁ ਪਰੇ ॥੧੦॥ |
| naam bisaar lobh mool khoeiou sir dhharam raae kaa ddandd parae ||10|| |
| Forgetting the Naam, and caught by greed, he betrays his own source; the club of the Righteous Judge of Dharma will strike him over the head. ||10|| |

| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ॥ |
| guramukh raam naam gun gaavehi jaa ko har prabh nadhar karae || |
| The Gurmukhs sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord's Name; the Lord God blesses them with His Glance of Grace. |

| ਤੇ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਅਪਰੰਪਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਤੇ ਜਗ ਮਹਿ ਗੁਰ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਹਰੇ ॥੧੧॥ |
| thae niramal purakh aparanpar poorae thae jag mehi gur govindh harae ||11|| |
| Those beings are pure, perfect unlimited and infinite; in this world, they are the embodiment of the Guru, the Lord of the Universe. ||11|| |

| ਹਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਹੁ ਗੁਰ ਬਚਨ ਸਮਾਰਹੁ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਭਾਉ ਕਰੇ ॥ |
| har simarahu gur bachan samaarahu sangath har jan bhaao karae || |
| Meditate in remembrance on the Lord; meditate and contemplate the Guru's Word, and love to associate with the humble servants of the Lord. |

| ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਗੁਰੁ ਪਰਧਾਨੁ ਦੁਆਰੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਨ ਜਨ ਕੀ ਰੇਣੁ ਹਰੇ ॥੧੨॥੮॥ |
| har jan gur paradhhaan dhuaarai naanak thin jan kee raen harae ||12||8|| |
| The Lord's humble servants are the embodiment of the Guru; they are supreme and respected in the Court of the Lord. Nanak seeks the dust of the feet of those humble servants of the Lord. ||12||8|| |

| The double-minded person comes and goes, and has numerous friends. |

| ਸਾ ਧਨ ਢੋਈ ਨ ਲਹੈ ਵਾਢੀ ਕਿਉ ਧੀਰੇਉ ॥੧॥ |
| saa dhhan dtoee n lehai vaadtee kio dhheeraeo ||1|| |
| The soul-bride is separated from her Lord, and she has no place of rest; how can she be comforted? ||1|| |

| ਮੈਡਾ ਮਨੁ ਰਤਾ ਆਪਨੜੇ ਪਿਰ ਨਾਲਿ ॥ |
| maiddaa man rathaa aapanarrae pir naal || |
| My mind is attuned to the Love of my Husband Lord. |

| ਹਉ ਘੋਲਿ ਘੁਮਾਈ ਖੰਨੀਐ ਕੀਤੀ ਹਿਕ ਭੋਰੀ ਨਦਰਿ ਨਿਹਾਲਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| ho ghol ghumaaee khanneeai keethee hik bhoree nadhar nihaal ||1|| rehaao || |
| I am devoted, dedicated, a sacrifice to the Lord; if only He would bless me with His Glance of Grace, even for an instant! ||1||Pause|| |

| ਪੇਈਅੜੈ ਡੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਸਾਹੁਰੜੈ ਕਿਉ ਜਾਉ ॥ |
| paeeearrai ddohaaganee saahurarrai kio jaao || |
| I am a rejected bride, abandoned in my parents' home; how can I go to my in-laws now? |

| ਮੈ ਗਲਿ ਅਉਗਣ ਮੁਠੜੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਪਿਰ ਝੂਰਿ ਮਰਾਉ ॥੨॥ |
| mai gal aougan mutharree bin pir jhoor maraao ||2|| |
| I wear my faults around my neck; without my Husband Lord, I am grieving, and wasting away to death. ||2|| |
|
| ਪੇਈਅੜੈ ਪਿਰੁ ਸੰਮਲਾ ਸਾਹੁਰੜੈ ਘਰਿ ਵਾਸੁ ॥ |
| paeeearrai pir sanmalaa saahurarrai ghar vaas || |
| But if, in my parents' home, I remember my Husband Lord, then I will come to dwell in the home of my in-laws yet. |

| ਸੁਖਿ ਸਵੰਧਿ ਸੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਪਿਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਗੁਣਤਾਸੁ ॥੩॥ |
| sukh savandhh sohaaganee pir paaeiaa gunathaas ||3|| |
| The happy soul-brides sleep in peace; they find their Husband Lord, the treasure of virtue. ||3|| |

| ਲੇਫੁ ਨਿਹਾਲੀ ਪਟ ਕੀ ਕਾਪੜੁ ਅੰਗਿ ਬਣਾਇ ॥ |
| laef nihaalee patt kee kaaparr ang banaae || |
| Their blankets and mattresses are made of silk, and so are the clothes on their bodies. |

| ਕਿਤੀ ਚਖਉ ਸਾਡੜੇ ਕਿਤੀ ਵੇਸ ਕਰੇਉ ॥ |
| kithee chakho saaddarrae kithee vaes karaeo || |
| I have tasted many flavors, and worn many robes, |
|
| ਪਿਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਜੋਬਨੁ ਬਾਦਿ ਗਇਅਮੁ ਵਾਢੀ ਝੂਰੇਦੀ ਝੂਰੇਉ ॥੫॥ |
| pir bin joban baadh gaeiam vaadtee jhooraedhee jhooraeo ||5|| |
| but without my Husband Lord, my youth is slipping away uselessly; I am separated from Him, and I cry out in pain. ||5|| |
|
| ਸਚੇ ਸੰਦਾ ਸਦੜਾ ਸੁਣੀਐ ਗੁਰ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥ |
| sachae sandhaa sadharraa suneeai gur veechaar || |
| I have heard the True Lord's message, contemplating the Guru. |
|
| ਸਚੇ ਸਚਾ ਬੈਹਣਾ ਨਦਰੀ ਨਦਰਿ ਪਿਆਰਿ ॥੬॥ |
| sachae sachaa baihanaa nadharee nadhar piaar ||6|| |
| True is the home of the True Lord; by His Gracious Grace, I love Him. ||6|| |

| ਗਿਆਨੀ ਅੰਜਨੁ ਸਚ ਕਾ ਡੇਖੈ ਡੇਖਣਹਾਰੁ ॥ |
| giaanee anjan sach kaa ddaekhai ddaekhanehaar || |
| The spiritual teacher applies the ointment of Truth to his eyes, and sees God, the Seer. |
|
| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਜਾਣੀਐ ਹਉਮੈ ਗਰਬੁ ਨਿਵਾਰਿ ॥੭॥ |
| guramukh boojhai jaaneeai houmai garab nivaar ||7|| |
| The Gurmukh comes to know and understand; ego and pride are subdued. ||7|| |
|
| ਤਉ ਭਾਵਨਿ ਤਉ ਜੇਹੀਆ ਮੂ ਜੇਹੀਆ ਕਿਤੀਆਹ ॥ |
| tho bhaavan tho jaeheeaa moo jaeheeaa kitheeaah || |
| O Lord, You are pleased with those who are like Yourself; there are many more like me. |

| ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਹੁ ਨ ਵੀਛੁੜੈ ਤਿਨ ਸਚੈ ਰਤੜੀਆਹ ॥੮॥੧॥੯॥ |
| naanak naahu n veeshhurrai thin sachai ratharreeaah ||8||1||9|| |
| O Nanak, the Husband does not separate from those who are imbued with Truth. ||8||1||9|| |

| Neither the sisters, nor the sisters-in-law, nor the mothers-in-law, shall remain. |

| ਸਚਾ ਸਾਕੁ ਨ ਤੁਟਈ ਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਲੇ ਸਹੀਆਹ ॥੧॥ |
| sachaa saak n thuttee gur maelae seheeaah ||1|| |
| The true relationship with the Lord cannot be broken; it was established by the Lord, O sister soul-brides. ||1|| |

| ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ਗੁਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੈ ਜਾਉ ॥ |
| balihaaree gur aapanae sadh balihaarai jaao || |
| I am a sacrifice to my Guru; I am forever a sacrifice to Him. |

| Wandering so far without the Guru, I grew weary; now, the Guru has united me in Union with my Husband Lord. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਫੁਫੀ ਨਾਨੀ ਮਾਸੀਆ ਦੇਰ ਜੇਠਾਨੜੀਆਹ ॥ |
| fufee naanee maaseeaa dhaer jaethaanarreeaah || |
| Aunts, uncles, grandparents and sisters-in-law |
|
| ਆਵਨਿ ਵੰਞਨਿ ਨਾ ਰਹਨਿ ਪੂਰ ਭਰੇ ਪਹੀਆਹ ॥੨॥ |
| aavan vannjan naa rehan poor bharae peheeaah ||2|| |
| - they all come and go; they cannot remain. They are like boatloads of passengers embarking. ||2|| |
|
| ਮਾਮੇ ਤੈ ਮਾਮਾਣੀਆ ਭਾਇਰ ਬਾਪ ਨ ਮਾਉ ॥ |
| maamae thai maamaaneeaa bhaaeir baap n maao || |
| Uncles, aunts, and cousins of all sorts, cannot remain. |

| ਸਾਥ ਲਡੇ ਤਿਨ ਨਾਠੀਆ ਭੀੜ ਘਣੀ ਦਰੀਆਉ ॥੩॥ |
| saathh laddae thin naatheeaa bheerr ghanee dhareeaao ||3|| |
| The caravans are full, and great crowds of them are loading up at the riverbank. ||3|| |
|
| ਸਾਚਉ ਰੰਗਿ ਰੰਗਾਵਲੋ ਸਖੀ ਹਮਾਰੋ ਕੰਤੁ ॥ |
| saacho rang rangaavalo sakhee hamaaro kanth || |
| O sister-friends, my Husband Lord is dyed in the color of Truth. |

| ਸਚਿ ਵਿਛੋੜਾ ਨਾ ਥੀਐ ਸੋ ਸਹੁ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਵੰਤੁ ॥੪॥ |
| sach vishhorraa naa thheeai so sahu rang ravanth ||4|| |
| She who lovingly remembers her True Husband Lord is not separated from Him again. ||4|| |
|
| ਸਭੇ ਰੁਤੀ ਚੰਗੀਆ ਜਿਤੁ ਸਚੇ ਸਿਉ ਨੇਹੁ ॥ |
| sabhae ruthee changeeaa jith sachae sio naehu || |
| All the seasons are good, in which the soul-bride falls in love with the True Lord. |

| ਸਾ ਧਨ ਕੰਤੁ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ਸੁਖਿ ਸੁਤੀ ਨਿਸਿ ਡੇਹੁ ॥੫॥ |
| saa dhhan kanth pashhaaniaa sukh suthee nis ddaehu ||5|| |
| That soul-bride, who knows her Husband Lord, sleeps in peace, night and day. ||5|| |
|
| ਪਤਣਿ ਕੂਕੇ ਪਾਤਣੀ ਵੰਞਹੁ ਧ੍ਰੁਕਿ ਵਿਲਾੜਿ ॥ |
| pathan kookae paathanee vannjahu dhhraak vilaarr || |
| At the ferry, the ferryman announces, ""O travellers, hurry up and cross over."" |

| ਪਾਰਿ ਪਵੰਦੜੇ ਡਿਠੁ ਮੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬੋਹਿਥਿ ਚਾੜਿ ॥੬॥ |
| paar pavandharrae ddith mai sathigur bohithh chaarr ||6|| |
| I have seen them crossing over there, on the boat of the True Guru. ||6|| |
|
| ਹਿਕਨੀ ਲਦਿਆ ਹਿਕਿ ਲਦਿ ਗਏ ਹਿਕਿ ਭਾਰੇ ਭਰ ਨਾਲਿ ॥ |
| hikanee ladhiaa hik ladh geae hik bhaarae bhar naal || |
| Some are getting on board, and some have already set out; some are weighed down with their loads. |

| ਜਿਨੀ ਸਚੁ ਵਣੰਜਿਆ ਸੇ ਸਚੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਨਾਲਿ ॥੭॥ |
| jinee sach vananjiaa sae sachae prabh naal ||7|| |
| Those who deal in Truth, remain with their True Lord God. ||7|| |
|
| ਨਾ ਹਮ ਚੰਗੇ ਆਖੀਅਹ ਬੁਰਾ ਨ ਦਿਸੈ ਕੋਇ ॥ |
| naa ham changae aakheeah buraa n dhisai koe || |
| I am not called good, and I see none who are bad. |
|
| ਨਾਨਕ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰੀਐ ਸਚੇ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਸੋਇ ॥੮॥੨॥੧੦॥ |
| naanak houmai maareeai sachae jaeharraa soe ||8||2||10|| |
| O Nanak, one who conquers and subdues his ego, becomes just like the True Lord. ||8||2||10|| |

| I do not believe that anyone is foolish; I do not believe that anyone is clever. |
