| ਸਦਾ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਕੈ ਰੰਗੇ ਰਾਤਾ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਖਾਣਾ ॥੧॥ |
| sadhaa saahib kai rangae raathaa anadhin naam vakhaanaa ||1|| |
| Imbued forever with the Love of my Lord and Master, I chant His Name, night and day. ||1|| |

| baabaa moorakh haa naavai bal jaao || |
| O Baba, I am so foolish, but I am a sacrifice to the Name. |

| ਤੂ ਕਰਤਾ ਤੂ ਦਾਨਾ ਬੀਨਾ ਤੇਰੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਤਰਾਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| thoo karathaa thoo dhaanaa beenaa thaerai naam tharaao ||1|| rehaao || |
| You are the Creator, You are wise and all-seeing. Through Your Name, we are carried across. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਮੂਰਖੁ ਸਿਆਣਾ ਏਕੁ ਹੈ ਏਕ ਜੋਤਿ ਦੁਇ ਨਾਉ ॥ |
| moorakh siaanaa eaek hai eaek joth dhue naao || |
| The same person is foolish and wise; the same light within has two names. |

| ਮੂਰਖਾ ਸਿਰਿ ਮੂਰਖੁ ਹੈ ਜਿ ਮੰਨੇ ਨਾਹੀ ਨਾਉ ॥੨॥ |
| moorakhaa sir moorakh hai j mannae naahee naao ||2|| |
| The most foolish of the foolish are those who do not believe in the Name. ||2|| |

| ਗੁਰ ਦੁਆਰੈ ਨਾਉ ਪਾਈਐ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪਲੈ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥ |
| gur dhuaarai naao paaeeai bin sathigur palai n paae || |
| Through the Guru's Gate, the Gurdwara, the Name is obtained. Without the True Guru, it is not received. |

| ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਭਾਣੈ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਤਾ ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਰਹੈ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥੩॥ |
| sathigur kai bhaanai man vasai thaa ahinis rehai liv laae ||3|| |
| Through the Pleasure of the True Guru's Will, the Name comes to dwell in the mind, and then, night and day, one remains lovingly absorbed in the Lord. ||3|| |

| ਰਾਜੰ ਰੰਗੰ ਰੂਪੰ ਮਾਲੰ ਜੋਬਨੁ ਤੇ ਜੂਆਰੀ ॥ |
| raajan rangan roopan maalan joban thae jooaaree || |
| In power, pleasures, beauty, wealth and youth, one gambles his life away. |
|
| ਹੁਕਮੀ ਬਾਧੇ ਪਾਸੈ ਖੇਲਹਿ ਚਉਪੜਿ ਏਕਾ ਸਾਰੀ ॥੪॥ |
| hukamee baadhhae paasai khaelehi chouparr eaekaa saaree ||4|| |
| Bound by the Hukam of God's Command, the dice are thrown; he is just a piece in the game of chess. ||4|| |
|
| ਜਗਿ ਚਤੁਰੁ ਸਿਆਣਾ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਣਾ ਨਾਉ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਪੜਹਿ ਗਾਵਾਰੀ ॥ |
| jag chathur siaanaa bharam bhulaanaa naao panddith parrehi gaavaaree || |
| The world is clever and wise, but it is deluded by doubt, and forgets the Name; the Pandit, the religious scholar, studies the scriptures, but he is still a fool. |
|
| ਕਲਰ ਖੇਤੀ ਤਰਵਰ ਕੰਠੇ ਬਾਗਾ ਪਹਿਰਹਿ ਕਜਲੁ ਝਰੈ ॥ |
| kalar khaethee tharavar kanthae baagaa pehirehi kajal jharai || |
| He is like the crop planted in the salty soil, or the tree growing on the river bank, or the white clothes sprinkled with dirt. |
|
| ਏਹੁ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ਤਿਸੈ ਕੀ ਕੋਠੀ ਜੋ ਪੈਸੈ ਸੋ ਗਰਬਿ ਜਰੈ ॥੬॥ |
| eaehu sansaar thisai kee kothee jo paisai so garab jarai ||6|| |
| This world is the house of desire; whoever enters it, is burnt down by egotistical pride. ||6|| |
|
| ਰਯਤਿ ਰਾਜੇ ਕਹਾ ਸਬਾਏ ਦੁਹੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸੋ ਜਾਸੀ ॥ |
| rayath raajae kehaa sabaaeae dhuhu anthar so jaasee || |
| Where are all the kings and their subjects? Those who are immersed in duality are destroyed. |

| ਕਹਤ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਚੇ ਕੀ ਪਉੜੀ ਰਹਸੀ ਅਲਖੁ ਨਿਵਾਸੀ ॥੭॥੩॥੧੧॥ |
| kehath naanak gur sachae kee pourree rehasee alakh nivaasee ||7||3||11|| |
| Says Nanak, these are the steps of the ladder, of the Teachings of the True Guru; only the Unseen Lord shall remain. ||7||3||11|| |

| One whose mind is filled with the Lord's Love |

| ਸਾਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਏ ॥ |
| saachai sabadh sehaj subhaaeae || |
| is intuitively exalted by the True Word of the Shabad. |

| ਏਹਾ ਵੇਦਨ ਸੋਈ ਜਾਣੈ ਅਵਰੁ ਕਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਕਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥ |
| eaehaa vaedhan soee jaanai avar k jaanai kaaree jeeo ||1|| |
| He alone knows the pain of this love; what does anyone else know about its cure? ||1|| |

| ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲੇ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥ |
| aapae maelae aap milaaeae || |
| He Himself unites in His Union. |
|
| ਆਪਣਾ ਪਿਆਰੁ ਆਪੇ ਲਾਏ ॥ |
| aapanaa piaar aapae laaeae || |
| He Himself inspires us with His Love. |
|
| ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਕੀ ਸਾਰ ਸੋਈ ਜਾਣੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਨਦਰਿ ਤੁਮਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| praem kee saar soee jaanai jis no nadhar thumaaree jeeo ||1|| rehaao || |
| He alone appreciates the value of Your Love, upon whom You shower Your Grace, O Lord. ||1||Pause|| |

| ਦਿਬ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਜਾਗੈ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਏ ॥ |
| dhib dhrisatt jaagai bharam chukaaeae || |
| One whose spiritual vision is awakened - his doubt is driven out. |
|
| ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਏ ॥ |
| gur parasaadh param padh paaeae || |
| By Guru's Grace, he obtains the supreme status. |
|
| ਸੋ ਜੋਗੀ ਇਹ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਪਛਾਣੈ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਬੀਚਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥ |
| so jogee eih jugath pashhaanai gur kai sabadh beechaaree jeeo ||2|| |
| He alone is a Yogi, who understands this way, and contemplates the Word of the Guru's Shabad. ||2|| |
|
| ਸੰਜੋਗੀ ਧਨ ਪਿਰ ਮੇਲਾ ਹੋਵੈ ॥ |
| sanjogee dhhan pir maelaa hovai || |
| By good destiny, the soul-bride is united with her Husband Lord. |
|
| ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਖੋਵੈ ॥ |
| guramath vichahu dhuramath khovai || |
| Following the Guru's Teachings, she eradicates her evil-mindedness from within. |
|
| ਰੰਗ ਸਿਉ ਨਿਤ ਰਲੀਆ ਮਾਣੈ ਅਪਣੇ ਕੰਤ ਪਿਆਰੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥ |
| rang sio nith raleeaa maanai apanae kanth piaaree jeeo ||3|| |
| With love, she continually enjoys pleasure with Him; she becomes the beloved of her Husband Lord. ||3|| |

| ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬਾਝਹੁ ਵੈਦੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥ |
| sathigur baajhahu vaidh n koee || |
| Other than the True Guru, there is no physician. |
|
| ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਸੋਈ ॥ |
| aapae aap niranjan soee || |
| He Himself is the Immaculate Lord. |
|
| ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਮਰੈ ਮੰਦਾ ਹੋਵੈ ਗਿਆਨ ਬੀਚਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੪॥ |
| sathigur miliai marai mandhaa hovai giaan beechaaree jeeo ||4|| |
| Meeting with the True Guru, evil is conquered, and spiritual wisdom is contemplated. ||4|| |
|
| ਏਹੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਸਾਰੁ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਲਾਏ ॥ |
| eaehu sabadh saar jis no laaeae || |
| One who is committed to this most sublime Shabad |
|
| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਭੁਖ ਗਵਾਏ ॥ |
| guramukh thrisanaa bhukh gavaaeae || |
| becomes Gurmukh, and is rid of thirst and hunger. |
|
| ਆਪਣ ਲੀਆ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਲ ਧਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੫॥ |
| aapan leeaa kishhoo n paaeeai kar kirapaa kal dhhaaree jeeo ||5|| |
| By one's own efforts, nothing can be accomplished; the Lord, in His Mercy, bestows power. ||5|| |
|
| ਅਗਮ ਨਿਗਮੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਿਖਾਇਆ ॥ |
| agam nigam sathiguroo dhikhaaeiaa || |
| The True Guru has revealed the essence of the Shaastras and the Vedas. |
|
| ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਅਪਨੈ ਘਰਿ ਆਇਆ ॥ |
| kar kirapaa apanai ghar aaeiaa || |
| In His Mercy, He has come into the home of my self. |
|
| ਅੰਜਨ ਮਾਹਿ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਜਾਤਾ ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਨਦਰਿ ਤੁਮਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੬॥ |
| anjan maahi niranjan jaathaa jin ko nadhar thumaaree jeeo ||6|| |
| In the midst of Maya, the Immaculate Lord is known, by those upon whom You bestow Your Grace. ||6|| |
|
| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੋ ਤਤੁ ਪਾਏ ॥ |
| guramukh hovai so thath paaeae || |
| One who becomes Gurmukh, obtains the essence of reality; |
|
| ਆਪਣਾ ਆਪੁ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਗਵਾਏ ॥ |
| aapanaa aap vichahu gavaaeae || |
| he eradictes his self-conceit from within. |
|
| ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬਾਝਹੁ ਸਭੁ ਧੰਧੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਵੇਖਹੁ ਮਨਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੭॥ |
| sathigur baajhahu sabh dhhandhh kamaavai vaekhahu man veechaaree jeeo ||7|| |
| Without the True Guru, all are entangled in worldly affairs; consider this in your mind, and see. ||7|| |
|
| ਇਕਿ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਭੂਲੇ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀ ॥ |
| eik bhram bhoolae firehi ahankaaree || |
| Some are deluded by doubt; they strut around egotistically. |
|
| ਇਕਨਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰੀ ॥ |
| eikanaa guramukh houmai maaree || |
| Some, as Gurmukh, subdue their egotism. |
|
| ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਤੇ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਹੋਰਿ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲੇ ਗਾਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੮॥ |
| sachai sabadh rathae bairaagee hor bharam bhulae gaavaaree jeeo ||8|| |
| Attuned to the True Word of the Shabad, they remain detached from the world. The other ignorant fools wander, confused and deluded by doubt. ||8|| |
|
| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਿਨੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ |
| guramukh jinee naam n paaeiaa || |
| Those who have not become Gurmukh, and who have not found the Naam, the Name of the Lord |
|
| ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥ |
| manamukh birathhaa janam gavaaeiaa || |
| those self-willed manmukhs waste their lives uselessly. |
|
| ਅਗੈ ਵਿਣੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਕੋ ਬੇਲੀ ਨਾਹੀ ਬੂਝੈ ਗੁਰ ਬੀਚਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੯॥ |
| agai vin naavai ko baelee naahee boojhai gur beechaaree jeeo ||9|| |
| In the world hereafter, nothing except the Name will be of any assistance; this is understood by contemplating the Guru. ||9|| |

| ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ॥ |
| anmrith naam sadhaa sukhadhaathaa || |
| The Ambrosial Naam is the Giver of peace forever. |

| ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਜੁਗ ਚਾਰੇ ਜਾਤਾ ॥ |

| Throughout the four ages, it is known through the Perfect Guru. |
