| ਆਪਿ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਦੂਰਿ ਨਹੀ ਦਾਤਾ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਸਹਜਿ ਰਜਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੧॥ |
| aap dhaeiaal dhoor nehee dhaathaa miliaa sehaj rajaaee hae ||11|| |
| The Merciful Lord is not far away; the Great Giver spontaneously unites with Himself, by His Will. ||11|| |

| ਇਕਿ ਸੋਗੀ ਇਕਿ ਰੋਗਿ ਵਿਆਪੇ ॥ |
| eik sogee eik rog viaapae || |
| Some are sad, and some are afflicted with disease. |

| ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰੇ ਸੁ ਆਪੇ ਆਪੇ ॥ |
| jo kishh karae s aapae aapae || |
| Whatever God does, He does by Himself. |

| ਭਗਤਿ ਭਾਉ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਮਤਿ ਪੂਰੀ ਅਨਹਦਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਲਖਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੨॥ |
| bhagath bhaao gur kee math pooree anehadh sabadh lakhaaee hae ||12|| |
| Through loving devotion, and the Perfect Teachings of the Guru, the unstruck sound current of the Shabad is realized. ||12|| |

| ਇਕਿ ਨਾਗੇ ਭੂਖੇ ਭਵਹਿ ਭਵਾਏ ॥ |
| eik naagae bhookhae bhavehi bhavaaeae || |
| Some wander and roam around, hungry and naked. |
 |
| ਇਕਿ ਹਠੁ ਕਰਿ ਮਰਹਿ ਨ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਪਾਏ ॥ |
| eik hath kar marehi n keemath paaeae || |
| Some act in stubbornness and die, but do not know the value of God. |
 |
| ਗਤਿ ਅਵਿਗਤ ਕੀ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ਬੂਝੈ ਸਬਦੁ ਕਮਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੩॥ |
| gath avigath kee saar n jaanai boojhai sabadh kamaaee hae ||13|| |
| They do not know the difference between good and bad; this is understood only through the practice of the Word of the Shabad. ||13|| |

| ਇਕਿ ਤੀਰਥਿ ਨਾਵਹਿ ਅੰਨੁ ਨ ਖਾਵਹਿ ॥ |
| eik theerathh naavehi ann n khaavehi || |
| Some bathe at sacred shrines and refuse to eat. |
 |
| ਇਕਿ ਅਗਨਿ ਜਲਾਵਹਿ ਦੇਹ ਖਪਾਵਹਿ ॥ |
| eik agan jalaavehi dhaeh khapaavehi || |
| Some torment their bodies in burning fire. |
 |
| ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨੁ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ਕਿਤੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਪਾਰਿ ਲੰਘਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੪॥ |
| raam naam bin mukath n hoee kith bidhh paar langhaaee hae ||14|| |
| Without the Lord's Name, liberation is not obtained; how can anyone cross over? ||14|| |

| ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਛੋਡਹਿ ਉਝੜਿ ਜਾਈ ॥ |
| guramath shhoddehi oujharr jaaee || |
| Abandoning the Guru's Teachings, some wander in the wilderness. |
 |
| ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਰਾਮੁ ਨ ਜਪੈ ਅਵਾਈ ॥ |
| manamukh raam n japai avaaee || |
| The self-willed manmukhs are destitute; they do not meditate on the Lord. |
 |
| ਪਚਿ ਪਚਿ ਬੂਡਹਿ ਕੂੜੁ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ਕੂੜਿ ਕਾਲੁ ਬੈਰਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੫॥ |
| pach pach booddehi koorr kamaavehi koorr kaal bairaaee hae ||15|| |
| They are ruined, destroyed and drowned from practicing falsehood; death is the enemy of the false. ||15|| |

| ਹੁਕਮੇ ਆਵੈ ਹੁਕਮੇ ਜਾਵੈ ॥ |
| hukamae aavai hukamae jaavai || |
| By the Hukam of the Lord's Command, they come, and by the Hukam of His Command, they go. |
 |
| ਬੂਝੈ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਸੋ ਸਾਚਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥ |
| boojhai hukam so saach samaavai || |
| One who realizes His Hukam, merges in the True Lord. |
 |
| ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਚੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਵੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੬॥੫॥ |
| naanak saach milai man bhaavai guramukh kaar kamaaee hae ||16||5|| |
| O Nanak, he merges in the True Lord, and his mind is pleased with the Lord. The Gurmukhs do His work. ||16||5|| |

| He Himself is the Creator Lord, the Architect of Destiny. |

| ਜਿਨਿ ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਉਪਾਇ ਪਛਾਤਾ ॥ |
| jin aapae aap oupaae pashhaathaa || |
| He evaluates those whom He Himself has created. |
 |
| ਆਪੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਆਪੇ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਆਪੇ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਉਪਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧॥ |
| aapae sathigur aapae saevak aapae srisatt oupaaee hae ||1|| |
| He Himself is the True Guru, and He Himself is the servant; He Himself created the Universe. ||1|| |

| ਆਪੇ ਨੇੜੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਦੂਰੇ ॥ |
| aapae naerrai naahee dhoorae || |
| He is near at hand, not far away. |
 |
| ਬੂਝਹਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੇ ਜਨ ਪੂਰੇ ॥ |
| boojhehi guramukh sae jan poorae || |
| The Gurmukhs understand Him; perfect are those humble beings. |

| ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਲਾਹਾ ਗੁਰ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਏਹ ਵਡਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੨॥ |
| thin kee sangath ahinis laahaa gur sangath eaeh vaddaaee hae ||2|| |
| Associating with them night and day is profitable. This is the glorious greatness of associating with the Guru. ||2|| |

| ਜੁਗਿ ਜੁਗਿ ਸੰਤ ਭਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੇਰੇ ॥ |
| jug jug santh bhalae prabh thaerae || |
| Throughout the ages, Your Saints are holy and sublime, O God. |

| ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਰਸਨ ਰਸੇਰੇ ॥ |
| har gun gaavehi rasan rasaerae || |
| They sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, savoring it with their tongues. |

| ਉਸਤਤਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਪਰਹਰਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਦਾਲਦੁ ਜਿਨ ਨਾਹੀ ਚਿੰਤ ਪਰਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੩॥ |
| ousathath karehi parehar dhukh dhaaladh jin naahee chinth paraaee hae ||3|| |
| They chant His Praises, and their pain and poverty are taken away; they are not afraid of anyone else. ||3|| |

| ਓਇ ਜਾਗਤ ਰਹਹਿ ਨ ਸੂਤੇ ਦੀਸਹਿ ॥ |
| oue jaagath rehehi n soothae dheesehi || |
| They remain awake and aware, and do not appear to sleep. |
 |
| ਸੰਗਤਿ ਕੁਲ ਤਾਰੇ ਸਾਚੁ ਪਰੀਸਹਿ ॥ |
| sangath kul thaarae saach pareesehi || |
| They serve up Truth, and so save their companions and relatives. |
 |
| ਕਲਿਮਲ ਮੈਲੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਤੇ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਓਇ ਰਹਹਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੪॥ |
| kalimal mail naahee thae niramal oue rehehi bhagath liv laaee hae ||4|| |
| They are not stained with the filth of sins; they are immaculate and pure, and remain absorbed in loving devotional worship. ||4|| |

| ਬੂਝਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬਾਣੀ ॥ |
| boojhahu har jan sathigur baanee || |
| O humble servants of the Lord, understand the Word of the Guru's Bani. |

| ਏਹੁ ਜੋਬਨੁ ਸਾਸੁ ਹੈ ਦੇਹ ਪੁਰਾਣੀ ॥ |
| eaehu joban saas hai dhaeh puraanee || |
| This youth, breath and body shall pass away. |
 |
| ਆਜੁ ਕਾਲਿ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਈਐ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਹਰਿ ਜਪੁ ਜਪਿ ਰਿਦੈ ਧਿਆਈ ਹੇ ॥੫॥ |
| aaj kaal mar jaaeeai praanee har jap jap ridhai dhhiaaee hae ||5|| |
| O mortal, you shall die today or tomorrow; chant, and meditate on the Lord within your heart. ||5|| |

| ਛੋਡਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਕੂੜ ਕਬਾੜਾ ॥ |
| shhoddahu praanee koorr kabaarraa || |
| O mortal, abandon falsehood and your worthless ways. |
 |
| ਕੂੜੁ ਮਾਰੇ ਕਾਲੁ ਉਛਾਹਾੜਾ ॥ |
| koorr maarae kaal oushhaahaarraa || |
| Death viciously kills the false beings. |
 |
| ਛੋਡਿਹੁ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਤਾਤਿ ਪਰਾਈ ॥ |
| shhoddihu nindhaa thaath paraaee || |
| Abandon slander and envy of others. |
 |
| ਪੜਿ ਪੜਿ ਦਝਹਿ ਸਾਤਿ ਨ ਆਈ ॥ |
| parr parr dhajhehi saath n aaee || |
| Reading and studying, they burn, and do not find tranquility. |
 |
| ਮਿਲਿ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਲਾਹਹੁ ਆਤਮ ਰਾਮੁ ਸਖਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੭॥ |
| mil sathasangath naam salaahahu aatham raam sakhaaee hae ||7|| |
| Joining the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, praise the Naam, the Name of the Lord. The Lord, the Supreme Soul, shall be your helper and companion. ||7|| |

| ਛੋਡਹੁ ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਬੁਰਿਆਈ ॥ |
| shhoddahu kaam krodhh buriaaee || |
| Abandon sexual desire, anger and wickedness. |
 |
| ਹਉਮੈ ਧੰਧੁ ਛੋਡਹੁ ਲੰਪਟਾਈ ॥ |
| houmai dhhandhh shhoddahu lanpattaaee || |
| Abandon your involvement in egotistical affairs and conflicts. |
 |
| ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਰਣਿ ਪਰਹੁ ਤਾ ਉਬਰਹੁ ਇਉ ਤਰੀਐ ਭਵਜਲੁ ਭਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੮॥ |
| sathigur saran parahu thaa oubarahu eio thareeai bhavajal bhaaee hae ||8|| |
| If you seek the Sanctuary of the True Guru, then you shall be saved. In this way you shall cross over the terrifying world-ocean, O Siblings of Destiny. ||8|| |

| ਆਗੈ ਬਿਮਲ ਨਦੀ ਅਗਨਿ ਬਿਖੁ ਝੇਲਾ ॥ |
| aagai bimal nadhee agan bikh jhaelaa || |
| In the hereafter, you shall have to cross over the fiery river of poisonous flames. |

| ਤਿਥੈ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਜੀਉ ਇਕੇਲਾ ॥ |
| thithhai avar n koee jeeo eikaelaa || |
| No one else will be there; your soul shall be all alone. |
 |
| ਭੜ ਭੜ ਅਗਨਿ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਦੇ ਲਹਰੀ ਪੜਿ ਦਝਹਿ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਤਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੯॥ |
| bharr bharr agan saagar dhae leharee parr dhajhehi manamukh thaaee hae ||9|| |
| The ocean of fire spits out waves of searing flames; the self-willed manmukhs fall into it, and are roasted there. ||9|| |
 |
| ਗੁਰ ਪਹਿ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਦਾਨੁ ਦੇ ਭਾਣੈ ॥ |
| gur pehi mukath dhaan dhae bhaanai || |
| Liberation comes from the Guru; He grants this blessing by the Pleasure of His Will. |

| ਜਿਨਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਸੋਈ ਬਿਧਿ ਜਾਣੈ ॥ |
| jin paaeiaa soee bidhh jaanai || |
| He alone knows the way, who obtains it. |
 |
| ਜਿਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਤਿਨ ਪੂਛਹੁ ਭਾਈ ਸੁਖੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵ ਕਮਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੦॥ |
| jin paaeiaa thin pooshhahu bhaaee sukh sathigur saev kamaaee hae ||10|| |
| So ask one who has obtained it, O Siblings of Destiny. Serve the True Guru, and find peace. ||10|| |

| ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਉਰਝਿ ਮਰਹਿ ਬੇਕਾਰਾ ॥ |
| gur bin ourajh marehi baekaaraa || |
| Without the Guru, he dies entangled in sin and corruption. |
 |
| ਜਮੁ ਸਿਰਿ ਮਾਰੇ ਕਰੇ ਖੁਆਰਾ ॥ |
| jam sir maarae karae khuaaraa || |
| The Messenger of Death smashes his head and humiliates him. |
 |
| ਬਾਧੇ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਨਰ ਨਿੰਦਕ ਡੂਬਹਿ ਨਿੰਦ ਪਰਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੧॥ |
| baadhhae mukath naahee nar nindhak ddoobehi nindh paraaee hae ||11|| |
| The slanderous person is not freed of his bonds; he is drowned, slandering others. ||11|| |
 |
| ਬੋਲਹੁ ਸਾਚੁ ਪਛਾਣਹੁ ਅੰਦਰਿ ॥ |
| bolahu saach pashhaanahu andhar || |
| So speak the Truth, and realize the Lord deep within. |
