| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਖੋਜਿ ਲਹਹਿ ਜਨ ਪੂਰੇ ਇਉ ਸਮਦਰਸੀ ਚੀਨਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੩॥ |
| guramukh khoj lehehi jan poorae eio samadharasee cheenaa hae ||13|| |
| The Gurmukhs search for Him and find Him; they are the perfect humble beings. In this way, they see Him, who looks upon all alike. ||13|| |

| ਪ੍ਰਭ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਕੋ ਪਾਵਹਿ ॥ |
| prabh baeanth guramath ko paavehi || |
| God is endless; following the Guru's Teachings, some find Him. |

| ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਨ ਕਉ ਸਮਝਾਵਹਿ ॥ |
| gur kai sabadh man ko samajhaavehi || |
| Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, they instruct their minds. |

| ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਮਾਨਹੁ ਇਉ ਆਤਮ ਰਾਮੈ ਲੀਨਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੪॥ |
| sathigur kee baanee sath sath kar maanahu eio aatham raamai leenaa hae ||14|| |
| Accept as True, Perfectly True, the Word of the True Guru's Bani. In this way, you shall merge in the Lord, the Supreme Soul. ||14|| |

| naaradh saaradh saevak thaerae || |
| Naarad and Saraswati are Your servants. |

| ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣਿ ਸੇਵਕ ਵਡਹੁ ਵਡੇਰੇ ॥ |
| thribhavan saevak vaddahu vaddaerae || |
| Your servants are the greatest of the great, throughout the three worlds. |

| ਸਭ ਤੇਰੀ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਤੂ ਸਿਰਿ ਸਿਰਿ ਦਾਤਾ ਸਭੁ ਤੇਰੋ ਕਾਰਣੁ ਕੀਨਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੫॥ |
| sabh thaeree kudharath thoo sir sir dhaathaa sabh thaero kaaran keenaa hae ||15|| |
| Your creative power permeates all; You are the Great Giver of all. You created the whole creation. ||15|| |

| ਇਕਿ ਦਰਿ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਦਰਦੁ ਵਞਾਏ ॥ |
| eik dhar saevehi dharadh vanjaaeae || |
| Some serve at Your Door, and their sufferings are dispelled. |

| ਓਇ ਦਰਗਹ ਪੈਧੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਛਡਾਏ ॥ |
| oue dharageh paidhhae sathiguroo shhaddaaeae || |
| They are robed with honor in the Court of the Lord, and emancipated by the True Guru. |

| ਹਉਮੈ ਬੰਧਨ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਤੋੜੇ ਚਿਤੁ ਚੰਚਲੁ ਚਲਣਿ ਨ ਦੀਨਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੬॥ |
| houmai bandhhan sathigur thorrae chith chanchal chalan n dheenaa hae ||16|| |
| The True Guru breaks the bonds of egotism, and restrains the fickle consciousness. ||16|| |

| Meet the True Guru, and search for the way, |

| by which you may find God, and not have to answer for your account. |

| ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਕਰਹੁ ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਭੀਨਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੭॥੨॥੮॥ |
| houmai maar karahu gur saevaa jan naanak har rang bheenaa hae ||17||2||8|| |
| Subdue your egotism, and serve the Guru; O servant Nanak, you shall be drenched with the Lord's Love. ||17||2||8|| |

| ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਰਮਈਆ ਰਾਮੁ ਪਿਆਰਾ ॥ |

| My Beloved Lord is pervading each and every heart. |

| ਨਾਲੇ ਅਲਖੁ ਨ ਲਖੀਐ ਮੂਲੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਲਿਖੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ਹੇ ॥੧॥ |

| The unseen Lord is always with us, but He is not seen at all. The Gurmukh contemplates the record. ||1|| |

| God grants His Grace, and carries him across to the other side. |

| ਅਗਨਿ ਪਾਣੀ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਅਤਿ ਗਹਰਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਾਰਾ ਹੇ ॥੨॥ |
| agan paanee saagar ath geharaa gur sathigur paar outhaaraa hae ||2|| |
| The ocean is very deep, filled with fiery water; the Guru, the True Guru, carries us across to the other side. ||2|| |

| ਮਨਮੁਖ ਅੰਧੁਲੇ ਸੋਝੀ ਨਾਹੀ ॥ |
| manamukh andhhulae sojhee naahee || |
| The blind, self-willed manmukh does not understand. |

| ਆਵਹਿ ਜਾਹਿ ਮਰਹਿ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਹੀ ॥ |
| aavehi jaahi marehi mar jaahee || |
| He comes and goes in reincarnation, dying, and dying again. |

| ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਲੇਖੁ ਨ ਮਿਟਈ ਜਮ ਦਰਿ ਅੰਧੁ ਖੁਆਰਾ ਹੇ ॥੩॥ |
| poorab likhiaa laekh n mittee jam dhar andhh khuaaraa hae ||3|| |
| The primal inscription of destiny cannot be erased. The spiritually blind suffer terribly at Death's door. ||3|| |

| ਇਕਿ ਆਵਹਿ ਜਾਵਹਿ ਘਰਿ ਵਾਸੁ ਨ ਪਾਵਹਿ ॥ |
| eik aavehi jaavehi ghar vaas n paavehi || |
| Some come and go, and do not find a home in their own heart. |

| ਕਿਰਤ ਕੇ ਬਾਧੇ ਪਾਪ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ॥ |
| kirath kae baadhhae paap kamaavehi || |
| Bound by their past actions, they commit sins. |
 |
| ਅੰਧੁਲੇ ਸੋਝੀ ਬੂਝ ਨ ਕਾਈ ਲੋਭੁ ਬੁਰਾ ਅਹੰਕਾਰਾ ਹੇ ॥੪॥ |
| andhhulae sojhee boojh n kaaee lobh buraa ahankaaraa hae ||4|| |
| The blind ones have no understanding, no wisdom; they are trapped and ruined by greed and egotism. ||4|| |

| ਪਿਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਕਿਆ ਤਿਸੁ ਧਨ ਸੀਗਾਰਾ ॥ |
| pir bin kiaa this dhhan seegaaraa || |
| Without her Husband Lord, what good are the soul-bride's decorations? |
 |
| ਪਰ ਪਿਰ ਰਾਤੀ ਖਸਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਾ ॥ |
| par pir raathee khasam visaaraa || |
| She has forgotten her Lord and Master, and is infatuated with another's husband. |
 |
| ਜਿਉ ਬੇਸੁਆ ਪੂਤ ਬਾਪੁ ਕੋ ਕਹੀਐ ਤਿਉ ਫੋਕਟ ਕਾਰ ਵਿਕਾਰਾ ਹੇ ॥੫॥ |
| jio baesuaa pooth baap ko keheeai thio fokatt kaar vikaaraa hae ||5|| |
| Just as no one knows who is the father of the prostitute's son, such are the worthless, useless deeds that are done. ||5|| |

| ਪ੍ਰੇਤ ਪਿੰਜਰ ਮਹਿ ਦੂਖ ਘਨੇਰੇ ॥ |
| praeth pinjar mehi dhookh ghanaerae || |
| The ghost, in the body-cage, suffers all sorts of afflictions. |
 |
| ਨਰਕਿ ਪਚਹਿ ਅਗਿਆਨ ਅੰਧੇਰੇ ॥ |
| narak pachehi agiaan andhhaerae || |
| Those who are blind to spiritual wisdom, putrefy in hell. |
 |
| ਧਰਮ ਰਾਇ ਕੀ ਬਾਕੀ ਲੀਜੈ ਜਿਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਾ ਹੇ ॥੬॥ |
| dhharam raae kee baakee leejai jin har kaa naam visaaraa hae ||6|| |
| The Righteous Judge of Dharma collects the balance due on the account, of those who forget the Name of the Lord. ||6|| |

| ਸੂਰਜੁ ਤਪੈ ਅਗਨਿ ਬਿਖੁ ਝਾਲਾ ॥ |
| sooraj thapai agan bikh jhaalaa || |
| The scorching sun blazes with flames of poison. |
 |
| ਅਪਤੁ ਪਸੂ ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਬੇਤਾਲਾ ॥ |
| apath pasoo manamukh baethaalaa || |
| The self-willed manmukh is dishonored, a beast, a demon. |
 |
| ਆਸਾ ਮਨਸਾ ਕੂੜੁ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ਰੋਗੁ ਬੁਰਾ ਬੁਰਿਆਰਾ ਹੇ ॥੭॥ |
| aasaa manasaa koorr kamaavehi rog buraa buriaaraa hae ||7|| |
| Trapped by hope and desire, he practices falsehood, and is afflicted by the terrible disease of corruption. ||7|| |

| ਮਸਤਕਿ ਭਾਰੁ ਕਲਰ ਸਿਰਿ ਭਾਰਾ ॥ |
| masathak bhaar kalar sir bhaaraa || |
| He carries the heavy load of sins on his forehead and head. |
 |
| ਕਿਉ ਕਰਿ ਭਵਜਲੁ ਲੰਘਸਿ ਪਾਰਾ ॥ |
| kio kar bhavajal langhas paaraa || |
| How can he cross the terrifying world-ocean? |
 |
| ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਬੋਹਿਥੁ ਆਦਿ ਜੁਗਾਦੀ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਿ ਨਿਸਤਾਰਾ ਹੇ ॥੮॥ |
| sathigur bohithh aadh jugaadhee raam naam nisathaaraa hae ||8|| |
| From the very beginning of time, and throughout the ages, the True Guru has been the boat; through the Lord's Name, He carries us across. ||8|| |

| ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਕਲਤ੍ਰ ਜਗਿ ਹੇਤੁ ਪਿਆਰਾ ॥ |

| The love of one's children and spouse is so sweet in this world. |

| ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਪਸਰਿਆ ਪਾਸਾਰਾ ॥ |
| maaeiaa mohu pasariaa paasaaraa || |
| The expansive expanse of the Universe is attachment to Maya. |
 |
| ਜਮ ਕੇ ਫਾਹੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਤੋੜੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਤਤੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਾ ਹੇ ॥੯॥ |
| jam kae faahae sathigur thorrae guramukh thath beechaaraa hae ||9|| |
| The True Guru snaps the noose of Death, for that Gurmukh who contemplates the essence of reality. ||9|| |

| ਕੂੜਿ ਮੁਠੀ ਚਾਲੈ ਬਹੁ ਰਾਹੀ ॥ |
| koorr muthee chaalai bahu raahee || |
| Cheated by falsehood, the self-willed manmukh walks along many paths; |
 |
| ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਦਾਝੈ ਪੜਿ ਪੜਿ ਭਾਹੀ ॥ |
| manamukh dhaajhai parr parr bhaahee || |
| he may be highly educated, but he burns in the fire. |
 |
| ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਵਡ ਦਾਣਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਹੁ ਸੁਖ ਸਾਰਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੦॥ |
| anmrith naam guroo vadd dhaanaa naam japahu sukh saaraa hae ||10|| |
| The Guru is the Great Giver of the Ambrosial Naam, the Name of the Lord. Chanting the Naam, sublime peace is obtained. ||10|| |

| ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਤੁਠਾ ਸਚੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਏ ॥ |

| The True Guru, in His Mercy, implants Truth within. |

| ਸਭਿ ਦੁਖ ਮੇਟੇ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਪਾਏ ॥ |

| All suffering is eradicated, and one is placed on the Path. |

| ਕੰਡਾ ਪਾਇ ਨ ਗਡਈ ਮੂਲੇ ਜਿਸੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਰਾਖਣਹਾਰਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੧॥ |
| kanddaa paae n gaddee moolae jis sathigur raakhanehaaraa hae ||11|| |
| Not even a thorn ever pierces the foot of one who has the True Guru as his Protector. ||11|| |

| ਖੇਹੂ ਖੇਹ ਰਲੈ ਤਨੁ ਛੀਜੈ ॥ |
| khaehoo khaeh ralai than shheejai || |
| Dust mixes with dust, when the body wastes away. |

| ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਪਾਥਰੁ ਸੈਲੁ ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ॥ |
| manamukh paathhar sail n bheejai || |
| The self-willed manmukh is like a stone slab, which is impervious to water. |

| ਕਰਣ ਪਲਾਵ ਕਰੇ ਬਹੁਤੇਰੇ ਨਰਕਿ ਸੁਰਗਿ ਅਵਤਾਰਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੨॥ |
| karan palaav karae bahuthaerae narak surag avathaaraa hae ||12|| |
| He cries out and weeps and wails; he is reincarnated into heaven and then hell. ||12|| |

| ਮਾਇਆ ਬਿਖੁ ਭੁਇਅੰਗਮ ਨਾਲੇ ॥ |

| They live with the poisonous snake of Maya. |
