| ਦੂਖੀ ਉਪਜੈ ਦੂਖੀ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਕਿਆ ਲੈ ਆਇਆ ਕਿਆ ਲੈ ਜਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੨॥ |
| dhookhee oupajai dhookhee binasai kiaa lai aaeiaa kiaa lai jaahaa hae ||12|| |
| In pain he is created, and in pain he perishes. What has he brought with himself? And what will he take away? ||12|| |

| ਸਚੀ ਕਰਣੀ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸਿਰਕਾਰਾ ॥ |
| sachee karanee gur kee sirakaaraa || |
| True are the actions of those who are under the Guru's influence. |

| ਆਵਣੁ ਜਾਣੁ ਨਹੀ ਜਮ ਧਾਰਾ ॥ |
| aavan jaan nehee jam dhhaaraa || |
| They do not come and go in reincarnation, and they are not subject to the laws of Death. |
 |
| ਡਾਲ ਛੋਡਿ ਤਤੁ ਮੂਲੁ ਪਰਾਤਾ ਮਨਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਓਮਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੩॥ |
| ddaal shhodd thath mool paraathaa man saachaa oumaahaa hae ||13|| |
| Whoever abandons the branches, and clings to the true root, enjoys true ecstasy within his mind. ||13|| |

| ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਲੋਗ ਨਹੀ ਜਮੁ ਮਾਰੈ ॥ |
| har kae log nehee jam maarai || |
| Death cannot strike down the people of the Lord. |
 |
| ਨਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਦੇਖਹਿ ਪੰਥਿ ਕਰਾਰੈ ॥ |
| naa dhukh dhaekhehi panthh karaarai || |
| They do not see pain on the most difficult path. |
 |
| ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਪੂਜਾ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਦੂਜਾ ਕਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੪॥ |
| raam naam ghatt anthar poojaa avar n dhoojaa kaahaa hae ||14|| |
| Deep within the nucleus of their hearts, they worship and adore the Lord's Name; there is nothing else at all for them. ||14|| |

| ਓੜੁ ਨ ਕਥਨੈ ਸਿਫਤਿ ਸਜਾਈ ॥ |
| ourr n kathhanai sifath sajaaee || |
| There is no end to the Lord's sermon and Praise. |
 |
| ਜਿਉ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵਹਿ ਰਹਹਿ ਰਜਾਈ ॥ |
| jio thudhh bhaavehi rehehi rajaaee || |
| As it pleases You, I remain under Your Will. |
 |
| ਦਰਗਹ ਪੈਧੇ ਜਾਨਿ ਸੁਹੇਲੇ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਸਚੇ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੫॥ |
| dharageh paidhhae jaan suhaelae hukam sachae paathisaahaa hae ||15|| |
| I am embellished with robes of honor in the Court of the Lord, by the Order of the True King. ||15|| |

| ਕਿਆ ਕਹੀਐ ਗੁਣ ਕਥਹਿ ਘਨੇਰੇ ॥ |
| kiaa keheeai gun kathhehi ghanaerae || |
| How can I chant Your uncounted glories? |

| ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਵਡੇ ਵਡੇਰੇ ॥ |
| anth n paavehi vaddae vaddaerae || |
| Even the greatest of the great do not know Your limits. |
 |
| ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਚੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਪਤਿ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਤੂ ਸਿਰਿ ਸਾਹਾ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੬॥੬॥੧੨॥ |
| naanak saach milai path raakhahu thoo sir saahaa paathisaahaa hae ||16||6||12|| |
| Please bless Nanak with the Truth, and preserve his honor; You are the supreme emperor above the heads of kings. ||16||6||12|| |

| Deep within the body-village is the fortress. |

| ਸਾਚਾ ਵਾਸਾ ਪੁਰਿ ਗਗਨੰਦਰਿ ॥ |

| The dwelling of the True Lord is within the city of the Tenth Gate. |

| ਅਸਥਿਰੁ ਥਾਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਨਿਰਮਾਇਲੁ ਆਪੇ ਆਪੁ ਉਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧॥ |
| asathhir thhaan sadhaa niramaaeil aapae aap oupaaeidhaa ||1|| |
| This place is permanent and forever immaculate. He Himself created it. ||1|| |

| ਅੰਦਰਿ ਕੋਟ ਛਜੇ ਹਟਨਾਲੇ ॥ |
| andhar kott shhajae hattanaalae || |
| Within the fortress are balconies and bazaars. |
 |
| ਆਪੇ ਲੇਵੈ ਵਸਤੁ ਸਮਾਲੇ ॥ |
| aapae laevai vasath samaalae || |
| He Himself takes care of His merchandise. |
 |
| ਬਜਰ ਕਪਾਟ ਜੜੇ ਜੜਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਖੋਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੨॥ |
| bajar kapaatt jarrae jarr jaanai gur sabadhee kholaaeidhaa ||2|| |
| The hard and heavy doors of the Tenth Gate are closed and locked. Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, they are thrown open. ||2|| |

| ਭੀਤਰਿ ਕੋਟ ਗੁਫਾ ਘਰ ਜਾਈ ॥ |
| bheethar kott gufaa ghar jaaee || |
| Within the fortress is the cave, the home of the self. |
 |
| ਨਉ ਘਰ ਥਾਪੇ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਰਜਾਈ ॥ |
| no ghar thhaapae hukam rajaaee || |
| He established the nine gates of this house, by His Command and His Will. |
 |
| ਦਸਵੈ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਅਲੇਖੁ ਅਪਾਰੀ ਆਪੇ ਅਲਖੁ ਲਖਾਇਦਾ ॥੩॥ |
| dhasavai purakh alaekh apaaree aapae alakh lakhaaeidhaa ||3|| |
| In the Tenth Gate, the Primal Lord, the unknowable and infinite dwells; the unseen Lord reveals Himself. ||3|| |

| ਪਉਣ ਪਾਣੀ ਅਗਨੀ ਇਕ ਵਾਸਾ ॥ |
| poun paanee aganee eik vaasaa || |
| Within the body of air, water and fire, the One Lord dwells. |
 |
| ਆਪੇ ਕੀਤੋ ਖੇਲੁ ਤਮਾਸਾ ॥ |
| aapae keetho khael thamaasaa || |
| He Himself stages His wondrous dramas and plays. |
 |
| ਬਲਦੀ ਜਲਿ ਨਿਵਰੈ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਆਪੇ ਜਲ ਨਿਧਿ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੪॥ |
| baladhee jal nivarai kirapaa thae aapae jal nidhh paaeidhaa ||4|| |
| By His Grace, water puts out the burning fire; He Himself stores it up in the watery ocean. ||4|| |

| ਧਰਤਿ ਉਪਾਇ ਧਰੀ ਧਰਮ ਸਾਲਾ ॥ |
| dhharath oupaae dhharee dhharam saalaa || |
| Creating the earth, He established it as the home of Dharma. |
 |
| ਉਤਪਤਿ ਪਰਲਉ ਆਪਿ ਨਿਰਾਲਾ ॥ |
| outhapath paralo aap niraalaa || |
| Creating and destroying, He remains unattached. |
 |
| ਪਵਣੈ ਖੇਲੁ ਕੀਆ ਸਭ ਥਾਈ ਕਲਾ ਖਿੰਚਿ ਢਾਹਾਇਦਾ ॥੫॥ |
| pavanai khael keeaa sabh thhaaee kalaa khinch dtaahaaeidhaa ||5|| |
| He stages the play of the breath everywhere. Withdrawing His power, He lets the beings crumble. ||5|| |

| ਭਾਰ ਅਠਾਰਹ ਮਾਲਣਿ ਤੇਰੀ ॥ |
| bhaar athaareh maalan thaeree || |
| Your gardener is the vast vegetation of nature. |
 |
| ਚਉਰੁ ਢੁਲੈ ਪਵਣੈ ਲੈ ਫੇਰੀ ॥ |
| chour dtulai pavanai lai faeree || |
| The wind blowing around is the chauree, the fly-brush, waving over You. |
 |
| ਚੰਦੁ ਸੂਰਜੁ ਦੁਇ ਦੀਪਕ ਰਾਖੇ ਸਸਿ ਘਰਿ ਸੂਰੁ ਸਮਾਇਦਾ ॥੬॥ |
| chandh sooraj dhue dheepak raakhae sas ghar soor samaaeidhaa ||6|| |
| The Lord placed the two lamps, the sun and the moon; the sun merges in the house of the moon. ||6|| |

| ਪੰਖੀ ਪੰਚ ਉਡਰਿ ਨਹੀ ਧਾਵਹਿ ॥ |
| pankhee panch ouddar nehee dhhaavehi || |
| The five birds do not fly wild. |
 |
| ਸਫਲਿਓ ਬਿਰਖੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਵਹਿ ॥ |
| safaliou birakh anmrith fal paavehi || |
| The tree of life is fruitful, bearing the fruit of Ambrosial Nectar. |

| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਰਵੈ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਚੋਗ ਚੁਗਾਇਦਾ ॥੭॥ |
| guramukh sehaj ravai gun gaavai har ras chog chugaaeidhaa ||7|| |
| The Gurmukh intuitively sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord; he eats the food of the Lord's sublime essence. ||7|| |

| ਝਿਲਮਿਲਿ ਝਿਲਕੈ ਚੰਦੁ ਨ ਤਾਰਾ ॥ |
| jhilamil jhilakai chandh n thaaraa || |
| The dazzling light glitters, although neither the moon nor the stars are shining; |
 |
| ਸੂਰਜ ਕਿਰਣਿ ਨ ਬਿਜੁਲਿ ਗੈਣਾਰਾ ॥ |
| sooraj kiran n bijul gainaaraa || |
| neither the sun's rays nor the lightning flashes across the sky. |
 |
| ਅਕਥੀ ਕਥਉ ਚਿਹਨੁ ਨਹੀ ਕੋਈ ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਇਦਾ ॥੮॥ |
| akathhee kathho chihan nehee koee poor rehiaa man bhaaeidhaa ||8|| |
| I describe the indescribable state, which has no sign, where the all-pervading Lord is still pleasing to the mind. ||8|| |

| ਪਸਰੀ ਕਿਰਣਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਉਜਿਆਲਾ ॥ |
| pasaree kiran joth oujiaalaa || |
| The rays of Divine Light have spread out their brilliant radiance. |
 |
| ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਦੇਖੈ ਆਪਿ ਦਇਆਲਾ ॥ |
| kar kar dhaekhai aap dhaeiaalaa || |
| Having created the creation, the Merciful Lord Himself gazes upon it. |
 |
| ਅਨਹਦੁ ਵਾਜੈ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਭਉ ਭਾਜੈ ॥ |
| anehadh vaajai bhram bho bhaajai || |
| When the unstruck sound current resounds, doubt and fear run away. |
 |
| ਸਗਲ ਬਿਆਪਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਛਾਜੈ ॥ |
| sagal biaap rehiaa prabh shhaajai || |
| God is all-pervading, giving shade to all. |
 |
| ਸਭ ਤੇਰੀ ਤੂ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਾਤਾ ਦਰਿ ਸੋਹੈ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੦॥ |
| sabh thaeree thoo guramukh jaathaa dhar sohai gun gaaeidhaa ||10|| |
| All belong to You; to the Gurmukhs, You are known. Singing Your Praises, they look beautiful in Your Court. ||10|| |

| ਆਦਿ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਸੋਈ ॥ |
| aadh niranjan niramal soee || |
| He is the Primal Lord, immaculate and pure. |
 |
| ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਾ ਦੂਜਾ ਕੋਈ ॥ |
| avar n jaanaa dhoojaa koee || |
| I know of no other at all. |

| ਏਕੰਕਾਰੁ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਵੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਗਰਬੁ ਗਵਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੧॥ |
| eaekankaar vasai man bhaavai houmai garab gavaaeidhaa ||11|| |
| The One Universal Creator Lord dwells within, and is pleasing to the mind of those who banishe egotism and pride. ||11|| |

| ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀਆ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ॥ |
| anmrith peeaa sathigur dheeaa || |
| I drink in the Ambrosial Nectar, given by the True Guru. |
 |
| ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਾ ਦੂਆ ਤੀਆ ॥ |
| avar n jaanaa dhooaa theeaa || |
| I do not know any other second or third. |

| ਏਕੋ ਏਕੁ ਸੁ ਅਪਰ ਪਰੰਪਰੁ ਪਰਖਿ ਖਜਾਨੈ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੨॥ |
| eaeko eaek s apar paranpar parakh khajaanai paaeidhaa ||12|| |
| He is the One, Unique, Infinite and Endless Lord; He evaluates all beings and places some in His treasury. ||12|| |

| ਗਿਆਨੁ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਸਚੁ ਗਹਿਰ ਗੰਭੀਰਾ ॥ |
